IDVD 6.0.4 won't cooperate... takes forever for nothing...

Hi, I really hope someone can help - any suggestions on a quick fix? Hate to complain, but what should have taken an hour took an entire day, and iDVD ended up being useless, and if I remember right it hasn't worked in a very long time - sorry but...
iDVD hangs up on every single click, and unless I wait for at least 15 - 30 minutes between clicks I have to force quit. It crashes on its own as well.
Toast 8 burned the converted QT movie shared from iMovie, but it only played on the Mac (!?!) and not in a DVD player. With much trouble I had to record the project back into the camera (kept going black or it'd freeze) and take the DV tape to a video store to record it to a DVD - bad deal!
I have to do the same thing within twenty-four hours unless I can get iDVD to properly behave and work, and I can't, so please, can someone help?

Hi
Long time to encode - Free space on internal boot hard disk low.
• I set for 25Gb or more for standard 4x3 DV and 5 times more for 16x9 HD
Playability - Use of cheap media and burning on a high speed often results in this
• I use Verbatim DVD-R (no +R) and burn at x1 speed

• Since upgrading to Yosemite my computer is so slow. It takes forever for a page to load. Any suggestions?

Since upgrading my MacBook Pro to Yosemite my computer is so slow. It takes forever for a page to load. Any suggestions?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

• Firefox use to be real quick when I first went online, now it takes forever for my homepage to come up, what is going on?

Ever since this last update whenever I go online it takes forever for my homepage to come up. Is anyone else having the same trouble with Firefox? Use to I could click the icon and right there was the internet now I have to wait and wait and wait. I am about ready to leave Firefox. Another thing it does too, is if I go and look at a youtube video, then when I do open my homepage that youtube video becomes my homepage, instead of what my homepage should be. I am getting so so frustrated. Someone please give me some help on this.

* The first time you start up any application after turning on your computer is called a cold start, which is why Firefox takes a while to load right away. (I've noticed that future versions of Firefox start up faster on a cold start then Firefox 5.0.1.) Also, a lower amount of RAM could be slowing its start-up down since Firefox is kind of memory hungry.
* As for the second part of your question, press ctrl,Alt, and the delete keys on your keyboard. The Windows Task Manager should start. Go to the processes tab and look for 'firefox.exe'. Right click on the firefox.exe and click 'End Process'. Hit Yes and wait for a minute.
* Then opening Firefox again.
Hopefully this helped somewhat!

• I have windows 7, perfect connection to the internet, but it takes forever for firefox to load pages, sits and thinks for minutes before loading. what can i do?

i have windows 7, the internet connection is perfect, i use other computers with no problem loading pages. With this pages take forever to load, worse then if i had dialup. I think internet explorer is the same, but i don't use it and it's very out of date. I tried a system restore, it worked for a day then back to the same thing. Pages take minutes to load, any page. some time out. i don't know what to do next, i've cleared history, cache, cleaned the computer up not sure where the problem is or what it is.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

• I recently have gotten the iPod 5 and anything that requires sound won't work, and also it takes forever for my recent purchases to load. What can I do?

Please help me!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

• Does it usually take forever for the app store to load on the ipad2?

I just bought my ipad2 and I'm trying to access the app store but it takes a very long time to load. Is this normal? At first I thought it was just my Wi-Fi connection, but I can access safari, mails, etc in seconds but not the app store.

If it is brand new - purchased in the last two weeks - I would certainly take it back and ask about it. Your warranty against manufacturer's defects is good for one year. If you bought it at an Apple Store you could make an appointment at the Genius Bar as well.
Why you have no problems other than accessing the App Store is kind of strange. It may not hurt to call Apple support. You get 90 days of free technical support. This seems like a technical question to me.

• HT204204 IOS 8 was downloaded onto my iPad and I am now experiencing significant delays, home page enlarges and then retracts, It takes forever for the system to respond, any suggestions? Is it possible to remove this OS?l

my 32 gb iPad recently received the IOS 8 software. The iPad is responding more slowly, it takes an unacceptable amount of time to find a site or enter a search on other sites. My home screen background changed, the home screen enlarges and then shrinks, any suggestions?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
But no, you will not be able to downgrade iOS.

• MacPro running slow, takes forever for anything to load, HELP!!!

Downloaded Maverick and my MacBook Pro has been running slow, lagging, often times it will
Not even load app or web page, if it does it takes a very long time. Please advise

Bimmer330,
when a new version of OS X is installed, Spotlight will spend time reïndexing the internal hard drive, because so many files changed between the old version of OS X and the new version. How long have you had Mavericks installed on your MacBook Pro?
Before you upgraded to Mavericks, did you ensure that all of your installed third-party apps are compatible with Mavericks? It might be the case that such an app that runs in the background does not work well with Mavericks, and could require updating itself to work well under Mavericks.
If you haven’t done so already, download and install EtreCheck. Please include in your reply the output from a run of EtreCheck.

• CREATE table takes forever for 5000 records.

Hi All, I need your help in undertsanding this.
Why is that when I select this query below, query comes pretty fast within seconds --5000 rows returned.
But when I try to create a table out of the query,
SELECT r.*
FROM v1 r JOIN v2 u ON(r.id = u.name
AND r.prep = u.prep)
WHERE r.prep IS NOT NULL;
It takes more that 36 hours and still running!Whats happening??i tried this many times.
I checked teh tablespace and it has 3G space and when the CREATE table is running, i don'tr see teh tablespace change
CREATE TABLE AS
SELECT r.*
FROM v1 r JOIN v2 u ON(r.id = u.name
AND r.prep = u.prep)
WHERE r.prep IS NOT NULL;

it seems as if your source data is located on a different site (the REMOTE in the execution plan indicated that).
When you add the insert statement this could mean that now all the data is first moved to the local site and the join is executed here. It could be that the original query was executed completely remote. Not so sure about it thou.
You can test using the /*+ append */ hint for the insert and the /*+driving_site (?) */ hint for the select.

• After Bios Update through thinkvantage, takes forever for PC to be active

Hi ,
I just wanted to say after lenovo update's very useful update, my pc now takes a good minute after boot-up for it to be responsive. Now, after boot, the connecting to internet circle just spins and stops. during this time, nothing else can be opened. when i click on itunes, the win 7 icon shows that it is active and then it goes dim again as if it was closed again. nothing works until the network is connected.
thanks for the update...not
any suggestions to reverse this other than reinstalling win 7? or do i just have to deal with this inconvinence since lenovo doesnt realize their update actually messes up their systems?

I would also report this to Lenovo since posting the issue on the forum is not the same as contacting them directly.
You've not indicated which machine, configuration you have. I would boot and go into the bios since it may have changed something. Save and reboot seeing how it is then.

• Why does it take forever for my tv show to load?

I am so disappointed with Apple TV. I am a huge promoter of apple products but this one is the pits.... I can asure anyone responding to this post that it is not my network so you can take that out of the equation. One day a show loads in 2 seconds and the next day i wait and wait and wait.... i have no hair left on my head... please someone give me the magic tocuh to get my apple tv2 to work!!!

Is this using home sharing or via the iTunes store? Please give more information, the network is the first thing to look at. If your speed is sufficient (6mbps) then it could be interference, are you using your ISP's DNS?
Need more to go on, need to know what you've tried and if you've ruled out the network then we need that detail.

• Why is firefox not responding--it takes forever for my typing to appear in a google search box what is happening

there is a lag between openong up a google search page and getting my typed words to appear in the google box--something is preventing firefox from responding immediately --what gives

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

• Compressor seems to take forever for my video.

I just started using an older Sony FX1 HDV camcorder. I want the 1080i video which is the component out, so i got a Blackmagic Intensity Pro Card. I'm capturing the component through this card. Is this what is taking my compressor soooooo long to work through? Uncompressed video?

Hard to say since you didn't mention what the duration of your program is and which settings in Compressor you used.
But you mentioned capturing. Is that what you're doing? Or are you actually using Compressor?

• Exporting from Premiere Pro. Takes forever for Media Encoder to start.

When I exported a timeline out of PrePro to the Media Encoder and press "Start Queue" it took it over 19 minutes before it began rendering. Is this normal?

Morning all
Fair point John.
Webshark2000, the orignal poster of this topic, has got Vista 64bit, so he can make use of the more memory.
I understand that memory use for CS4 is:
Premiere - 2gigs
Encore - 2gigs
Media Encoder - 1 gig
+ Windows and other apps you may have running!
So if you don't have around 5 - 6 gigs ram, Windows will be doing ALOT of paging! Thus slowing the system and render times down.
64Bit and tons of ram - is the way forward. It rocks with it!
Hope that helps - Shaun
