IDVD 6 can't be launched after MacOS 10,5,4 update

I just update Leopard to 10,5,4 and i find that iDVD 6 can't be used. I don't like iDVD 8 (or iMovie 8 either) and have continued to use "6" without problems until this last update. Anyone have a work around for this?

In the meantime I've found the my MacBook which was updated to 10.5.4 at the same time runs iDVD6 just fine so must be permissions or the fact that the problem arose in my G5 which is obviously PPC while MacBook is intel. Sorry for the false alarm

  • IPhone 6 screen freezes and can't find wifi after iOS 8.0.2 update

iPhone 6 screen freezes and can't find wifi after iOS 8.0.2 update. Have to do a hard reboot. I am Extremely disappointed and lost ALL trust in Apples Quality Assurance. From now on I'll wait a week before I update.

    Hey there Shortos,
It sounds like your phone touchscreen is not consistently working for you after updating to iOS 8. I can see how that would be pretty frustrating. It sounds to me like this could be a software issue or an issue with the screen itself. I would start with the troubleshooting in the following article to help troubleshoot the screen itself:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If that does not resolve the issue, I would next quit all the running apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Can no longer print after MacOS 10.6.8 upgrade

I used to have full Reader functionality on my core duo 2006 era MAcbook. Since I upgraded to OS 10.6.8 I can no longer print. I get a print error that says "No pages selected to print" even though I clearly selected the whole document.
Nor do on line pdf forms on websites seem to recognize it when I fill them in. I tried version 9.5, 10.x and 11.02. The latter 11.02 will not run at all on my computer even though it installs OK.

  • Mail crashes on launch after Leopard 10.5.2 update

I upgraded my Al PB G4 1.67 GHz to Leopard last week. I like Leopard's new features, but have had my share of bugs getting all my programs to work. The latest hiccup is with Mail.
Mail (the new version that was installed with Leopard), had been working fine for about a week. Then yesterday, after getting the OS 10.5.2 update through SW update and rebooting, I tried to launch Mail, and after 20 seconds or so of the Mail icon bouncing in the dock, got the message "The application Mail quit unexpectedly." This happens before any Mail GUI has a chance to pop up at all. I'll attach the report at the end of this question.
I have tried loggin in as a guest user and launching mail, and the exact same thing happens, so it seems like the problem is system wide. Note that, also prior to getting the 10.5.2 update, I had been deleting non-English launguage files from certain applications to save hard disk space, but I didn't touch Mail in this regard. . . so unless some library got deleted accidentally, I'm not sure what's going on.
Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks a bunch for reading!

  • Can't start OS after 10.4.11 combo update (PPC)

During 10.4.11 combo update it stopped with an error. It didn't look to be a problem since my system was running and I just close the update and continued using my mac.
However, when I decided to restart my system, it won't stat just showing the gray display with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel.
Safe boot didn't work. It shutdowns.
    /sbin/fsck -fy doesn't complete successfully.
I'm traveling overseas and I don't have the system DVD with me nor my external hard drive with my backup.
What are my options if I have any.

    General advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_4_11_Combo_Update__PPC
And for Intel Macs: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eintel.html
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.4.11 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta. If Safari 3.1.2 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 3.0.4 (or worse still, version 2) when running 10.4.11 or 10.5 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.1.1 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, and may entail you having to reinstall an earlier operating system.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

    Anything at http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/multipleappsquit.html helpful?
The link you posted didn't work for me so I tried this one:
    http://thexlab.com/faqs/multipleappsquit.html
    To dmick,
The suggestions on the page were written for Tiger, but seem to apply just as well to Leopard. Their number one solution, because of the multiple programs failing, is a possible system font problem. A free program that might help you manage and clean up font problems is here:
http://www.linotype.com/2631/freedownloadmac.html - It's been updated for 10.5.2 and specifies that you turn off “Automatic font activation” in Font Book’s preferences.
In addition, repairing permissions (which I mentioned first because you should do it anyway) may not be enough so you might use a tool like CockTail LE to clean the system caches and a host of other repairs and settings.

I use tools like CockTail very sparingly, but when you have a system running as poorly as yours is, you don't have much to lose.
Back up your important files and/or turn off Time Machine before making major changes to the system.

  • Podcasts won't launch after Apple TV 5.2 update?

After installing the 5.2 up date on my 3rd generation Apple TV, the Podcast app will not launch.  The Podcast menu bar briefly displays, then quits to the app launch screen.

  • Firefox will not launch after latest OS X security update

Just installed latest Apple software update on Snow Leopard. Now, Firefox will not launch. Checked system logs and get this:
    11/21/10 10:24:20 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[155] ([0x0-0x6d06d].org.mozilla.firefox[802]) Exited with exit code: 1
The following may or may not be related. Before installing the update, I had lots of these messages in my logs:
11/21/10 7:27:17 PM firefox-bin[39594] *** __NSAutoreleaseNoPool(): Object 0x1422680 of class __NSCFDate autoreleased with no pool in place - just leaking

Sounds like you may have a check in the box for HTTP and/or HTTPS proxy servers, but you are not behind a proxy server. Safari and Software Update use the HTTP port, Mail doesn't, and Firefox ignores the Mac OS preferences and uses it's own proxy settings.
Go to System Preferences > Network > active connection > Proxies tab and if there are proxies checked, UNcheck them.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can't create playlists after 12.1.0.50 update

I edit old playlists and I can even duplicate them then edit them, but the + button does nothing now. I can't create new playlists or new smart playlists.

Since the last 12.1 update, I can't import audio files into a playlist.  I can crease a playlist, but I cannot drag files into it.  These are AIFF files and I was doing this successfully a few weeks ago.  They are files I made myself, so there is definitely no DRM.  Anyone else with this?  I hate it when Apple changes things that are working perfectly fine.  Autoupdate OFF!

  • Can not open Lightroom after installing 1.4.1 update

After installing the 1.4.1 update (I skipped 1.3 update), Lightroom won't open.

Your old LR icon may point to the old (deleted) file.

  • Can't find Dock after installing 10.6.7 update

THis happen to anyone else? What do do? Worked fine before. I restarted and that did not bring Dock back....
Two days ago I started working with Spaces on f8 key but that did not seem to stop access to Dock; problem only started when I installed the latest 10.6.7 update this morning.
    Model Identifier:          Macmini3,1

Make sure that the dock isn't hidden by presscing command-option-d
Also make sure that it isn't off to one of the sides.
If that doesn't help open terminal and type "killall Dock" with out the quotes.
See if that helps but if it doesn't,  With the finder window open go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist and trash that file and the com.apple.dock.db file
    Repair permissions

  • Safari won't launch after installing 10.5.1 update

I get a message saying Safari is not supported by that version of MAC OS. As 10.5.1 is the newist version, is there a Safari update I'm missing, or is this a bug in 10.5.1?

I'm having the same problem here. Running safari on 10.5.1. Safari simply wont lunch . It keeps quitting everytime. Is there a patch coming for this bug ?

  • Can't Run iTunes After The 6.0.3 Update

    Hello,
When I start iTunes, it crashes and it gives the following error:
    http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/9245/itunes7hx.png
The error is in Turkish language, i couldn't translate it but it's the same Windows XP error message..
I tried reinstalling iTunes, installing the version which came with the iPod cd, but it's not working.
PS: I tried to uninstall quicktime and it gives a DLL error.
    Thanks for reading.
    (Sorry for the spelling/grammar mistakes.)

I solved it somehow by reinstalling for many times.

  • Can't sync iPad after iTunes 11.0.3 update

    A bit perplexed.
Trying to sync my iPad mini (iOS 6.1.3) and it is refusing.  No errors are shown in iTunes.
I've tried switching off WiFi syncing and various other options.
Every time the sync fails to do anything (either by USB or WiFi), this console log is written:
    23/05/13 10:04:29.392 AM AppleMobileSync[36597]: [0x10020c310] |ISyncManager|Warning| Could not retrieve ISyncClient with id com.apple.Keychain!
I've also noticed that iTunes doesn't open when the iPad is connected.

    Hello Perapoika,
I was researching what might be causing the iPad and iTunes not to sync with that error message. I have a couple recommendations. First restart the iPad, from iPad: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430.
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesnt cut the mustard, then it sounds like the keychain on the computer may need to be reset. Heres an article outlining how to do that. Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1544, then try again.
    Take Care,
    Sterling
