I had the same problem with iDVD 08, it will quit right after launching the program.
I fixed it by re-installing the software package using Pacifist, after that I tried and it worked!
Then I did a software update and installed it, and it's still working without a problem.
NOTE: After the latest software upgrade iMovie and iDVD stopped working. I fixed iDVD as mentioned above, but iMovie was fixed by changing the colour calibration on my display (on system preferences).
Sorry but if that is what you had to do its a bug in leopard and Apple should be responsible for preventing this or any BUGS, did it BUG you? LOL
The phenomenon here is many users from the PC world love fixing problems all day to show something off in there poor little worlds, well im a mac user and i don't want to waste any more time in PC land.
Please do not ship bugged OS dvds out again and wait for users to solve there own issues and then tricking them into thinking cuas ethey can that there issues where not bugs but they where the insects to be stepped on.
I returned to Tiger, much faster actually, much more stable, i replaced Spaces with desktop manager and smack book, i tap my screen to change desktops, even better, i also replaced Spaces by using SuperDuper, works great., and i purchased iLife 8 and PowerBoost which allows me to do everything iChat does now as well, so i see nothing in Leopard for me to be impressed by then there new screen savers, ill miss them a tiny bit .

MacBook pro does not start. How can I back to Mac OS X Lion?
I have a MacBook Pro. On my MacBook i made three partition, then I installed window 8. After that I started windos and try to delete third partition by Administrator tool from windows operating system. After that my MacBook does not start. How can I back to Mac OS X Lion?
After that I again install windows 8 from a DVD. Windows start well, but I can not start Mac OS system, may be it was 10.6. Sever times I tried to install OS X Lion 10.7 thought DVD, I could not. On MacBook I have a lot of important data.
What can I do. I want to a complete suggestion. Please help me to solve the problem.
My MacBook Pro model no. A1286.You installed Windows improperly the result of which was to wipe out the bootloader for OS X. You can give this a try:
Boot Using OPTION key:
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"OPTION" key.
3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
4. Select the OS X disk icon from which you want to boot.
5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
If you are still unable to boot from the OS X volume then you will need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
This will destroy the Windows bootloader so you cannot boot into Windows. The solution is to remove all the partitions on the drive except the OS X partition, then expand the OS X partition to take up the entire drive.
Use Boot Camp Assistant in the Utilities folder to create a Windows partition on which you can install Windows. You cannot have any other partitions on the drive besides these two.
Now given all the above you may be able to install a third-party bootloader that would work with the setup you now have: Boot Runner 1.4. -
Photoshop 32bits does not start up anymore on Windows 7 64bits.
This is the situation:
We have 2 PCs that have been configured identically, with the exception of a scanner (canonScan 9950F) attached to the computer and the 32 bits twain scanner driver installed.
Both PCs worked correctly, the one with the scanner attached started 32 bit PhotoShop when there was need to scan. But for some obscure reason, 32 bits Photoshop does not work anymore. I have tried disabling the twain driver (by moving it out of the plugins directory), restarting the machine, updating to the latest software, but despite this, Photoshop does not start anymore... no beep, no crash, no nothing.
I deinstalled Photoshop, Reinstalled - same phenomena.
At least the Event Viewer of Windows has something to tell, even if it is not quite understandable to me:

May be someone out in the user community has a solution? Needless to say, that the second machine works fine!
Lucien.The Photoshop executable really should be showing 12.0.4.0 as the executable version should have been updated by the updater.
I'm sorry for the really basic question, but did you reboot after installing the 12.0.4 update?
I do vaguely remember a few forum posts claiming the updater had only worked partially, though in my own case it updated all the files no problem. Can you recall whether you changed anything under the Photoshop 32 bit installation area (e.g., did you move or remove any of the Adobe plug-ins, for example)?
If memory serves, the workaround for a "partial update" was to uninstall Photoshop, then reinstall 12.0.0, then update to 12.0.4.

Acrobat Pro X 10.1.10 Does Not Start Windows 8.1
I have Create Suite CS6 which apparently bundles Adobe Acrobat Pro X. I have upgraded to 10.1.10. Under Window 8.1, this version simply does not start. There is no startup screen. There is no error in EventViewer of Windows. It simply does NOTHING.
I went to Windows Program and Features and did a "Repair" on Acrobat Pro X. This redid the install but the result is the same.
Is there a known compatibility issue here? How do I work around this?Hello,
Have you tried to run the Acrofix patch on your computer?
If not, please follow this link, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html

Acrobat X (C6) does not start
Acrobat X within CS6 does not start.
I tried uninstalling CS6 and reinstalling and it still doesn't work.
I tried unilstalling just the Acrobat X Pro module. I'm not sure how to install just this component.
I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64-bit on a Dell T-3500 with 12GB of RAM.
It appears that I'm running CS6 Master Collection v6.1 (service pack 1).
What are the recommended next actions to resolve the Acrobat X problem?
Thanks.Hello,
Make sure you are connected to the internet.
Launch CS6 product other than Acrobat or Flash Builder (for example: Photoshop, After Effects, Premier Pro, InDesign, Flash Professional, Illustrator, Dreamweaver.)
Click on Help->Deactivate .
Deactivate the application. Quit application.
Launch a regular CS6 product other than Acrobat or Flash Builder (for example: Photoshop, After Effects, Premier Pro, InDesign, Flash Professional, Illustrator, Dreamweaver.)
Accept Eula.
Register trial by signing in. Let the app launch.
Quit and relaunch the app. Wait for UI to come.
Click on License This Software button on the UI.
Click on Sign in .
Serial number screen will come
Enter the serial number in the serial number screen and click Next.
Quit app and relaunch the app while connected on the internet .
After this if you launch Acrobat it will launch and run forever without trouble. In case you still face a problem , try relaunching the other CS6 app once more and then launch Acrobat.
You can refer this thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1021632 for reference.
Thank you,
Yuvraj. -
IAS does not start when using SSL
Hello all,
I hope I hit the correct board for this question and search did find anything useful for my Problem.
We have a couple of Oracle Databases which are using IAS to serve a PL/SQL and Perl based WepApp. The Databases are 10g (10.2.0.3), and the Servers are running Novell SLES 9 x86_64 (SP 3). We need https on these Machines, so I configured the Server for SSL, created a Certificate using Wallet Manager and so on, exactly as described in the Documentation.
However when I try to start the HTTP Server with "ssl-enabled" in opmn.xml to enable SSL it does not start any more. It simply cannot load the "mod_ossl.so" Library:
Logfile says:
/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/http_1/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd
Syntax error on line 246 of /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/http_1/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/http_1/Apache/Apache/libexec/mod_ossl.so into server: /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/http_1/Apache/Apache/libexec/mod_ossl.
so: undefined symbol: dbm_firstkey
I have googled and searched Metalink but did not find anything useful. I assume that "dbm_firstkey" refers to the GNU database routines (gdbm), but I am kinda stuck right now. Has anyone stumped upon this maybe?
Kind Regards
MaikTwo issues:
- this does not look like OracleAS, but like the HTTP Server from the database;
- you seem to be loading a 32 bit process (apache/httpd) into a 64 bit shell.
try starting it within 'linux32 bash' instead. -

Running Repair Disk from your install disk as suggested by neuroanatomist is the best first step. I have outlined the procedure in detail below, with suggestions for what to do if DU reports errors it cannot repair:
Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
What’s a kernel panic may help you identify the black screen you saw earlier. If it does, post back and let us know.
Good luck.

Personalization Scheduling Engine does not start -- Bug?
Hi there. I don't know if it's the correct forum to post my question. If I'm wrong I ask you to redirect to
the correct one.
I've correctly installed Oracle AS 10g release 1 according to the following topology, on the production
environment :
Server 1 --> Here we are three oracle homes : Identity Management , Middle Tier (Portal and Wireless) ,
Personalization.
Server 2 --> MetadataRepository
My problem focuses on Personalization. I advise that in my developing environment I've not got any problem.
So , I've installed Oracle AS Personalization without wornings. I've created RE,MOR and MTR schemas as the
procedure dictates. Problem's that Personalization Scheduling Engine does not start. It should start

ORA-06512: at "MOR_PORTALE.DMT_CLIENT_IDARWIN_WORKFLOW", line 0
ORA-06512: at line 1
So as the main error is "NumberFormatException" , I executed reverse engineering decompiling two Oracle
classes , just to know the origin of the error :
oracle.dmt.op.util.messagelog.MessageLog and
oracle.dmt.op.workflow.SchedulerWorkflowClass
After simple tracing I think I reached the origin and I shocked myself to see it!! The problem starts in the
main_method of oracle.dmt.op.workflow.SchedulerWorkflowClass, i.e. :
private void main_method()
throws Exception
String event_msg_args[];
traceMsg += "Start";
moduleID = "SchedulerWorkflowClass.main_method";
traceMsg += "-executionContextID";
executionContextID = MessageLog.getExecutionContextID();
The problem resides in the getExectiongContextID() method of oracle.dmt.op.util.messagelog.MessageLog class.
Code of this method is this :
public static long getExecutionContextID()
String hostIP = null;
try
InetAddress host = InetAddress.getLocalHost();
hostIP = host.getHostAddress();
catch(UnknownHostException ex) { }
StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer(20);
if(hostIP != null)
for(StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(hostIP, "."); st.hasMoreTokens(); buf.append
(st.nextToken()));
buf.append((new Date()).getTime());
String tmpString = buf.toString();
String idString = tmpString.replace('?', ' ');
idString = idString.trim();
int len = idString.length();
if(len > 19)
idString = idString.substring(len - 19);
long id = Long.parseLong(idString);
return id;
Simply , code obtains IP address of the Host , concats it with the current time and if the length of the
result string is longer than 19 it obtains substring of (len -19) length!! I think , Oracle programmer
thought to prevent NumberFormatException with the control "if(len > 19)
idString = idString.substring(len - 19);"
but that's strange , very strange!! In fact , in my case(with my IP Address 160.97.*.*) , method outputs
NumberFormatExceptio 'couse long "id = Long.parseLong(idString);" is not able to convert the String
"9756161113494248343" to java.lang.Long!!! 'couse it exceedes maximum value ( 2EXP(63)-1)!! So , I think
it's bug but I don't know how to solve it!! Problem's in method's semantic. It should control that the
String it creates is lower that the maximum value allowed for a long , not its length lower or equal 19!!!
I mean , I cannot modify Oracle Java Class file.
With kind regards,
NicolaFix in OracleAS 10.1.2.0.2 if you file a bug referencing bug 4397235 a backport of the fix can be provided on metalink.

Hi, since upgrading to 10.5.1 my screensaver does not start either by hot corner or automatically. I can get it to test from the preference pane, any suggestions?
Same problem here,
I'm not sure entering/recovering from sleep has anything to do with the problem, since i sleep my powerbook running 10.5.1 every day, and the screensaver works fine.
On my Macbook Pro however, (10.5.1) it seems that the problem occurs only after a few days of uptime (and of course, some sleep/wakeup sessions). After a reboot the screensaver/hot corners work again, but only for a few days..
I use quicksilver to lock my machine using the screensaver, and not being able to do this all the time is quite annoying
There are a few other threads about this, but so far no solutions... -
My MBA does not start up from sleep
My MBA 13" mid 2013 (Mavericks) does not start up from sleep at times, or at least is very slow (1-2minutes)
As far as i remeber the only thing installed fairly resent is Virual Box.
It does connect to my iPhone when its connected to via USB but the sceen stays black.
Anybody else with this problem?Hi bryan808-
It could be that the failure and installation of the update are simply a coincidence.
Back up. Then try removing all PCI cards and disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard, and mouse. If that configuration will wake from sleep then start adding devices and/or cards one at a time until you find the culprit that keeps your machine from waking.
If you are really running a G4 you will have better luck posting in the appropriate section of that forum: Ctegory: Power Mac G4

Does not start its download.
Good day,
I'm sort of new to the buying of apps in the Apple Store and so I just bought this OS X Mountain Lion and the buying of the app was a success. Although, it does not start its download. As far as I know, our internet connection is perfectly fine (because I'm able to write this discussion on mine) and that I can surf the net. I am aware that the download does take a long time, like 3 to 4 hours? But nothing seems to be happening...
Anyone here had the same case that I am currently having?
Thank you!The download time, is governed by your internet connection and speed. If you are connecting to the internet wirelessly, then it would take much longer than if you were directly connected with a wire.
If you feel it may be "stuck", quit all open applications, and restart your computer from the apple menu. Once the computer is restarted, re-open up the App's store, and select the purchases tab, then resume the download. -
IPhoto does not start up after upgrading
On my new iMac iPhoto does not start up after migrating. Upgrade from iPhoto 6/Snow Leopard > Lion 10.7.1 with iPhoto 9.1.5. When the conversion is finished I can see the new library, it works allright. And with packet-inspection (or how is that called in English) all maps & data seems to be OK; I can check the seperate pics.
But: iPhoto won't start up a second time (grey screen with infinite spinning wait cursor). The same thing is happening when I add a new library and drop in some pictures.
What can cause this problem?Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Good luck.
