IDVD 6 problems - crashes and bizarre memory error

I've got an iMovie project that I'm trying to put to disc with iDVD. On my MDD G4 with an ATI9800 it just crashes out after a certain period of time whilst doing the menus.

Same every time. I then tried on my G4 mini. Very slow, but it did get further. However, once it tried to render the movie it aborted. Trying again it claimed there was insufficient disk space.
Here's a screenshot: http://weatherley.net/pics/idvd.png
Any ideas on how to fit 17,126,309,111 GB of storage into a mini? Or perhaps Apple could fix iDVD so that it works on my poor old G4s.
G4 MDD, G4 mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The iMovie project that I'm sending to iDVD is about an hour of PAL DV. The free space on the mini is as claimed in the error dialog I posted, about 26GB. The MDD has shedloads of space (>100GB), but always crashes early on with the stacktrace I posted earlier.
All the source material and iLife tools are on the MDD. I was running things across the network from the mini, and attempting to save the diskimage generated by iDVD on the mini itself.

  • IPad Air crashes with low memory error in Google Translate Web Site

    My new iPad Air crashes with low memory error every time I try to use my Phrasebook in Google Translate Web site. This is rather disapointing considering that my old Nexus 10, that iPad Air is supposed to replace, works flawlessly in Google Translate Web site. Perhaps this has to do with the rather limited RAM (1GB) that iPad Air is equippoed with.
    I would appreciate any recommendation, Thanks in advance.

  • No sound in Browsers and low memory errors for Snood and Ultimate Solitaire

    No sound in Browsers and low memory errors for Snood and Ultimate Solitaire. Those are what I'm experiancing. The no sound happens in Safari, Firefox and Opera. Both Snood and Ultimate Solitaire won't load because of 'Not Enough Memory' yet I have 2gigs. Other applications work fine with sound. ie iTunes, GarageBand, etc are ok. I've deleted Snood Prefs with no effect. Any ideas?
    thanks

  • Remote Control crashes randomly with memory error

    During authentication, but most usually during disconnection Remote Control (using Consoleone) will crash with the following error:
    RCConsole.exe - Application Error
    The instruction at "0x10002834" referenced memory at "0x0000000c". The memory could not be "read".
    Click on OK to terminate the program
    Click on CANCEL to debug the program
    OK Cancel
    I tries searching Google and a few other engines with no luck, has anyone seen this before?

    The only time that I've seen the error that's listed below is from running ConsoleOne from a UNC path. Try copying all files and folders from \\servername\SYS\PUBLIC\mgmt\ConsoleOne\1.2 to c:\1.2, and then try running c:\1.2\bin\consoleone.exe. Doing so has fixed this error for me in the past

  • Power Mac G4 MDD problems with Hardware test Memory errors

    I have been troubleshooting slowness and unexplained lockups on my Power Mac G4 MDD. I've had the system since 2002. I tried to run hardware test (the disk that came with my system), and I get an error message at startup:
    Invalid Memory Access at %SRRO: 00034870
    %SRR1: 00003030
    I run mac-boot, and get another memory error
    Invalid Memory Access at:
    %SRRO: 056106dc
    %SRR1: 00003030
    Does this mean my memory has gone bad? I don't get any other screens for testing hardware.
    The lockups are varied, but many seem to deal with Safari. I have also repaired disk permissions and repaired disk. I then get security error messages when I restart, and I choose to fix them, and things are fine for a while, but then it slows down some and starts locking up again.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Marbot61

    Hi Marbot61,
    You might be interested in the thread "error when booting from AHT CD" on this forum. Since four different users have had the same error message in two days, perhaps ram chips are actually ok, and there is something else going on with the AHT CD boot process.

  • HT1338 my macbook crashes and cant send error report, when i try, it says "error report failed"

    My macbook crashes and when I start it again, there's a crash report and I click on send to apple, after a minute or so it says failed to send to apple. It has happened many times and I think it's getting worse since I can't send any reports.
    What should I do?

    Hello Firah,
    Don't worry or even bother sending the report, Apple doesn't want to hear about 10.5.x at all... if they eer did.
    Copy & Paste a few lines here, maybe a couple dozen, we'll take a look.

  • Windows 8 crashes and with the error "kernel_security_check_failure" after installing Boot Camp drivers.

    Hi!
    I've got a new 27" iMac (late 2013), and I was going to install Windows 8.1 (64-bit) to be able to play a few games.
    Everything went smoothly (installed normally via Boot Camp Assistant), and after the Windows setup, the Boot Camp drivers needed to be installed. After this, the computer rebooted, but crashed at a blue screen with the error called "kernel_security_check_failure".
    It rebooted a few times on its own, but after a few times, I got some options, and I chose to "refresh" the Windows 8 install, meaning it would reset the install while keeping my files (even though I didn't have any, as I never got to use it). This took some time, but it worked, and it booted into W8.
    The Boot Camp drivers had been removed though, so I had to reinstall them. After they had reinstalled, the computer rebooted and the same blue screen with the same error hit me.
    Something tells me that some of the BC drivers are messing things up. I can't find any information on this elsewhere.
    Would it be possible to install only selected drivers, to eventually find out which driver is causing the problem?
    All help is greatly appreciated!

    I finally gave up, reloaded everything, this time, using WIn 8.1 Pro, not Enterprise.  After I did the updates, patches, Norton 360, shut computer down and connected the external drives, and booted up...and got the BSOD.  This time, I went to Microsoft and downloaded the Windows Debugger, and think I may have found the problem...NORTON!

  • IDVD problem burning and multiplexing - gets stuck but ejects the DVD and the DVD doesn't play

    I am having trouble burning DVDs.  Everything seems to be working fine during the iDVD project creation.  I can watch the movie and select scenes within iDVD.  Then, when I go to burn the DVD, it gets stuck at the burning/multiplexing stage - the wheel just keeps spinning and says there is about a minute left.  Yet it ejects the DVD and the DVD won't play when inserted into a DVD player.  It will show the intro and the scene selection pages but when you click on one of the scenes, it gets stuck and doesn't play.  I have already uninstalled and reinstalled iDVD.  The problem persists.  It seems like the burner itself is the problem.  What can I do to fix it?  I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 with a 2.8 GHzintel Core 2 Duo and iDVD version 7.0.4.

    Hi
    Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) - one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
    So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
    Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.
    Now my long long list on Multiplex Error

    I always makes a DiskImage first and test this so that it runs OK
    I use only - Verbatim DVDs
    I use only - DVD-R
    I burn at an as slow speed possibly e.g. x1

    Multiplex Error
    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
    Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

    (Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
    First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
    Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
    Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
    Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

    I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on gray background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
    It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
    Hopefully this can help other people.

    Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.

    To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
    Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
    One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
    I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
    Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
    Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
    So had something to do with chapters
    So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
    After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
    That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
    When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
    As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
    I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

    In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
    Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
    One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
    Summary - What to try
    1. Chapters
    • Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
    • No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
    • No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
    2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
    3. Safe re-boot
    4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
    SDMacuser adds to this
    • On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
    Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
    5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
    6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
    7. Trash iDVD pref. file
    8. Make a new iDVD project
    9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
    10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

  • LabView Crashing and compile server error.

    Hi,
    I'm having some errors when I compile code for my FPGA (PXI-7831R). I am using LabView 8.2.1.
    Sometimes labView crashes completely and sometimes it comes up with a compile server error.
    My code contains 3 VI's. The first send sends digital output and reads digital input 10 times and then called another VI to save these results. The second VI repeats the first VI 10 times.
    When the first VI is compiled on its own it works (including the saving data VI which saves it to a FIFO) but when the second VI is compiled, that is when it errors.
    I have attached the compile server errors and the screen dumps of when labView crashes.
    Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks.

      ok. Let me try and make my problem a little clearer....
    I have now combined all the VI's into one.
    It is supposed to write to the digital output and read from the digital outputs 10times at a rate of 10us and store the data to the FIFO. This process is then repeated at a rate of 80ms for 8 times.
    I have attached a word document with an explanation on the error.

  • PHP 5.0.0RC3 and Oracle Memory Errors

    I have been getting Apache.exe Application Errors as I am testing PHP5. The exact error message is: The instruction at "0x77f83aed" referenced memory at "0x00080000". The memory could not be "written".
    Environment:
    OS: Windows XP Professional with SP1
    Server: Apache 1.3.31 (Win32)
    PHP Version: 5.0.0RC3
    DB: Oracle 8.4.7 on Unix machine.
    Script Instructions:
    If I run this script and refresh my browser a few times so that this script is re-executed, I will get the error. Please try this out if you have a similar environment and let me know if you see this problem.
    Script:
    <?php
    class Test {
    var $_results;
    var $_ncount;
    function display() {
    $conn = oci_connect("scott", "tiger", "your-host-name");
    $stmt = oci_parse($conn, "select ENAME from emp");
    oci_execute($stmt);
    $this->_ncount = oci_fetch_all($stmt, $this->_results);
    oci_free_statement($stmt);
    oci_close($conn);
    for ($i = 0; $i < $this->_ncount; $i++) {
         echo $this->_results["ENAME"][$i];
    $test = new Test();
    $test->display();
    ?>
    My Initial Observation:
    It appears that the oci calls in conjunction with a loop functions in php can cause the memory problems. When I remove the for loop. I do not get the problem and if I manually assign the array to $_results without making the call to the oci functions, then I don't get the error.
    I would be interested in hearing from any of you that are testing your code against php5.
    Regards,
    Ben

    I have the same problem.
    We are running Apache 1.3.31 on W2k and PHP 5.0.1 with simplified code:
    <?
    $db = oci_connect("scott", "tiger", "");
    oci_close($db);
    ?>
    The first time of execution works well. Clicking "Refresh" in the browser leads to the described error.
    At first we tested on Apache2, but ist seems to be a problem with the new php_oci8.dll in PHP 5.0.1

  • Crashing and unresponsive script errors with FF 4 and Yahoo Mail.

    When using the new beta version of Yahoo mail I keep getting unresponsive script errors and sometimes it just crashes FF and when I force quit I'm told FF is "not responding".
    This only happens with Yahoo mail and only since I've upgraded to FF 4.

    Yahoo have posted a solution to this problem on their site.
    Hopefully this works.

  • IDVD 2 crashing and updating?

    I'm trying to make a DVD, my first, at home. But every time I press delete in iDVD 2 the program crashes though I worked through that. Now when I try to burn the project it crashes too during the encoding phase. I would like to just update the application but I can't find anything that updates from 2. Is it possible to update from 2 to 6 or to 3 to 4 to 5 to 6? Cause none of the 3-6 updates work/recognize the old application. Thank you.

    Hi fireant:
    Actually, the only way to upgrade to another iDVD is to purchase the entire iLife package associated with the version you want.
    Apple does not directly sell the older versions now-iLife 06 is all they offer. But you can still find older ilife versions on a Google search.
    Just be careful if you are planning to upgrade to iLife 06. Check out these requirements:

  • IDVD 08 quits and reports "Formatting error"

    I've made new DVDs since installing 08 and carried forward older projects, but today both projects report "formatting error" when they reach some point in the burn. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Question #1: What is the source of this movie? Is it from a minidv camera via firewire? ..... USB 2? ...... or something else?
    Most of the time updates and most upgrades proceed rather smoothly when it comes to apple's i-apps / software (But not always). I prefer never to update in the middle of a project. I'll often wait, finish the project with the older version, and then update.
    Question # 2: Have you already tried exporting as a QT movie / file and then over to iDvd?
