IDVD(9) not accepting FCE 4 *.mov files

Notification from iDVD : Unsupported file type : unknown format....
The movie was a quick time export, not a QT conversion... from FCE 4
This occurred after I upgraded to snow leopard and FCE HD 3.5 to FCE 4..
The QT.mov runs on QT..
I read most of the posts but cannot relate one toward resolution for this one...
Any help appreciated...

May be totally out in the blue - but here goes.
a. NO iDVD version till now can handle HD at all - will be scaled down to SD-video
b. In FinalCut Express or Pro I do
• Export out as QuickTime .mov file
• Not selfcontained (Not important - just saves time and space)
• NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION - at all
This gives me as good DVDs as is possibly by using iDVD
c. to get better quality there are two ways I used
• DVD Studio Pro - In FinalCut Studio bundle
(Cost ! And is not easy to use - lot's of gray hair)
• Roxio Toast™
(Cheaper and can burn Blue-Ray to such a burner/disks but also to standard DVDs
but much shorter movies eg 20min/disk)

hello,
I'm a NAPP member and had been following the photoshop TV casts on QT....however, now I get the error message 'error - 2048 not a valid movie file'...its an mpeg4 QT file, but I get the message whenever I attempt to play the downloaded file...or when I try to just watch the stream, it won't open the URL...these are the only movies that I'm having this problem with...as I can watch other movies from other sites w/o incident...NAPP hasn't replied to my inquiries except that they don't support the TV shows.
Any ideas?...would be appreciated...

Thank you very much for the link to videolan.org. I was having the same problem playing downloaded Photoshop TV videos. I tried MPlayer which worked but was not comprehensible. I had never heard of videolan, but it works like a charm.

In what file type and compression format did you download the YouTube content? I.e., to avoid such issues, you would normally download the source files as content that is natively compatible with your target player or convert incompatible file type/compression format combinations to files that are compatible with your targeted media player.

Lightroom 4--4.1---4.2 will not accept .mpg video files

Lightroom 4, 4.1 and 4.2 will not accept .mpg video files. I have to Convert these files from .mpg to mp4 in order for any of the lightrooms 4--4.2 to accept the videos. Yet in the http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/video-support-lightroom-4-3.html it states : Extensions supported---MPG, so why do I have to convert all my video files to mp4??????

A particular file extension doesn’t dictate the actual video and audio codecs in a particular video file. I expect what is happening is that LR doesn’t understand one or both of the codecs and it needs the file converted one a set it does understand.
Did the videos work in LR3 but not LR4?
Can you play the original MPGs in QuickTime?

IDVD can't find my .mov file

I recently exported a project from FCE and saved it as a .mov file on my external drive. I was able to burn several DVD's. Then, after a four day weekend away, I come back and attempt to burn more DVD's, but I am getting an error msg that says iDVD can't find my file and it seems to have renamed it, changing the extension to -av.mov1

Where is the original QT.mov file ?
iDVD doesn't store it in it's project - so original has not to be deleted or moved
for iDVD to find it.
My guess is that You need to re-do as a new iDVD project.

My iDVD can't "see" certain MOV files

Hi,
Using Final Cut Pro X, I export a film in standard Quicktime MOV format, shot on a Canon EOS 550D in 1080i HD.
FCPX is happy, my Mac is happy, Quicktime is happy, and for the most part, iDVD is happy - it picks up the files and runs with them.
But sometimes I produce an MOV file, and it's as though iDVD can't see it - it isn't there. I can play it in Quicktime, I can move it around, but iDVD just doesn't acknowledge its existence.
I've recently produced 4 films and iDVD could see 2 but not the other two. It only sees them if I import them into iMovie, and then re-export them, but that sometimes corrupts elements of the film.
The two films it could see (less than 2 Gb) were smaller than the other 2 (over 3 Gb), but i have also created a DVD where the main film was over 13 Gb, and iDVD could see it without blinking. So I don't think it could be a size limit issue.
I am running iDVD 7.1.2 (1158) on an iMac which is running OS 10.6.8, with 4GB RAM.
Does anyone have any ideas???

Quicktime does not convert my .MOV file into a watchable format on Quicktime

I won't give you all a long sob story but basically, I went to my first music festival over the weekend and uploaded my videos onto my friends computer, I then uploaded these videos (i took with my iPhone) to Google Drive. When i got back onto my own computer, I download the .MOV files from Google Drive, these videos would not convert into a watchable format. It gives me the message -
"QuickTime Player can't open "IMG_8788.MOV". To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More."
It says that Quicktime should support MOV files. I am using version 10.3 Quicktime player with iOS Mavericks. I really want help with this issue as I will be devastated if these videos are lost. My friend obviously deleted them off his computer because they did take up alot of space!

iPhone recorded files should already be compatible QT X v10.3 (and QL) as is in the MOV file container. However, the process of downloading, uploading, and again downloading the files may have created some sort of issue causing QT X to not properly "recognize" the content and thus, wants you to check for additional support.
In any case, will the files open in any other media players? (E.g., VLC, MPlayerX, NicePlayer, QT 7, MPEG Streamclip, etc.) For instance, if the files open in QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, or VLC, you may be able to copy the data to a new MOV file container which QT X will open and play. (I.e., this procedure does not recompress the data and is reasonable quick. Also not sure if using the "Command-D" Finder option to "duplicate" the file will create a "readable" file or not but you might try it.)

I'm not able to move files from my mac to my hard drive, but i can move files from my hard drive to my Mac. Would really like to make more room on my mac-any suggestions to get these files onto the hard drive?

When i plug my external hard drive into my mac i'm able to see all the files on it and move files off the hard drive to the mac, but not the other way around. I need to make more room on my mac and would really like these files to be on this particular external hard drive. Any help would be great!

Thank you all. Sounds like i might as well buy a new (mac OS supported) external hard drive. Not worth the hassle/risk of taking all the old files off my current external HD.

Hello all. I am trying to move files around through bridge CS6 but I keep getting :
" The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient permissions". How do I fix this annoyance? This is really screwing with my work flow and forcing me not to bother using Bridge.

This is really an OS problem as it sets permission levels for operations. What OS?
If using Win OS and an external drive, you can start Bridge by right clicking and choosing "run as administrator".

Were you using Perian before? I'm not sure about this, but I don't think it does anything in Mavericks as the plug-in API changed. I have no idea how to check if Perian is actually doing anything anymore. The developers have ceased supporting it.

Yes, exactly (in fact I had that page on the Help Viewer open while I did it just in case I had skipped a step). Plus some other ways (like converting the clips to other formats, etc)
But I have made the video by using QuickTime Pro, by stitching the clips together. It isn't anything like I want but I can move on now and contemplate other ways to make this work (unless you or somebody else comes up with something!).

Idvd will not accept jpg 2000

I was helping a neighbor with a dvd he was making. He imported many photos from iphoto. It seems that some were from an older camera and were in jpg2 format. iDVD would not generate thumbnails. We went thru and resaved them all as jpgs but that only saved the ones we were using on the dvd. We would have to reimport them all back into iphoto or the next time we try and use them they are still jpg2s. Any way of checking iphoto for any of these type photos and resaving all at once? When we look at the info in iphoto on the newer photos it shows jpg but the old ones show nothing.j

Here's a possiblity:
1 - Create a smart album with the criteria Filename ends with ".jpg".
2 - select all of the photos in that smart album, type Command + K to bring up the keyword pane and apply a unique keyword to those photos.
3 - create another smart album with the criteria Keyword is not "XXXX", the keyword you assined to the .jpg files.
That should give you the jpg2 files (and any other image types which you can exclude by adding additional criteria in the second smart album.
Have you tried cropping the photos ever so slightly so that a new modified file is created to see if the new file might be a .jpg file and could be used in iDVD?
