IDVD and iMovie wouldn't download with iLife '06

I recently installed iLife '06, and all that came up on my desktop for iDVD or iMovie was a "?" icon despite having the correct system requirements for running the applications. I tried under the customize option to re-install just those two applications but the same thing happened. How can I get these installed with the iLife software?

And there they were-- granted, not under the applications folder under my username... but still-- I have them.
Just out of curiosity ....do you have your computer set up with multiple user accounts? If so, I recommend working on your iDVD under the admin account only. Good luck.

  • IPhoto, iDVD, and iMovie don't work with Leopard

Hi, I just installed Leopard onto my machine and iPhoto, iDVD and iMovie no longer work properly. For all three I get the error message "(This program) has unexpectedly quit." Can you help?

my husband was having the same problem and it even bled into his sys prefs. the problems actually started after he ran software update last night (things were working find before that, and he's running leopard btw)
he archived and reinstalled (he unchecked the "preserve users and settings box") and we're about to find out if that solved it.
to summarize, you may need to reinstall if software update doesn't fix it. not sure what caused this problem. perhaps some corruption of files?

  • HT2476 new Mac mini, outdated iDVD and iMovie HD with OSX 10.8.2; fix ?

    I have a brand new Mac mini and during set up I imported settings from a Macbook running 10.5.8; now the iDVD and iMovie HD apps are outdated and the settings do not allow updates to the current version compatible with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2;
    How do I fix this?

In my case, the .dmg can only be installed if iLife 08 is installed, so I install iLife 08 (nothing works from that in ML, but it doesn't matter), then install the 6.04 .dmg, and then update the entire iLife with 09 and then 11, running software update in between. At that point, every app works. During that process, the new iMovie versions will be installed and automatically create a previous version folder for 6.04.
    Right now I have a Powerbook G4.
I'll be purchasing a new iMac (Mountain Lion) in the coming months.  I would like to put both iMovie HD6 and the last version of iDVD on it.  I've read numerous threads on the iDVD installation.  I'm trying to make sure I understand all the steps to getting both applications installed and working correctly.
I have the install disks for
iLife 08 (says it can install on both PPC and Intel Macs)
    iLife 09  (with iDVD)
iLife 11  (older version with iDVD)
I certainly remember disliking iMovie 7 and therefore used the download from Apple to revert back to 6.0.4 on my Powerbook.  I did a search and happened to find in my Library an installer package labeled iMovie HD6 (the file info says version 6.0.4 and it's dated Feb 2008). Is this what I would have used to go back to iMovie HD6 from iMovie 7?  I also found a ton of other installer packages that I had no idea my powerbook must have automatically saved.  Included were numerous iDVD 7 update installers.
So would I take these steps on the new iMac with Mountain Lion?
Use the iLife 08 disk to do a custom install of only iMovie (or does the 6.0.4 installer only work if you've installed the entire iLife 08?)
Run the installer package iMovieHD6  to revert from iMovie 7 to HD6
Use the iLife 09 disk to do a custom install of iDVD
Update iDVD by running the update packages and then using the iLife 11 disk to ensure I get all the themes available for iDVD
Run software update to bring everything up-to-date
I happened to do an install of only iDVD from iLife 11 (iDVD) on another IMac running Mountain Lion and found that I had no choice but to install iPhoto along with it.  Since that was an older version I then had to do a reinstall of the current iPhoto from the App store.
    Do these steps sound logical?

  • I tried to update my iPhone 4s to the ios 6 and it wouldn't download and my phone will not work now.

I tried to update my iPhone 4s to the ios 6 and it wouldn't download and my phone will not work.  I started the download and it said that it had 6 hours remaining, so i just left it overnight.  The next morning it was working fine, but the ios 6 didn't download.  I looked at it later and it had the turning on screen with the loading bar under it.  It stayed like that for a while and the bar didn't move.  I needed to use my phone so I tried to make it go to the home screen, but nothing happened. I held down the lock and home button for a few seconds and everything went black.  I tried to turn it back on and all it has done all day is stayed on the turning on screen.  I tried plugging it into the wall, and nothing happened. I tried connecting it to iTunes, and nothing happened. I don't know what I need to do to get it to work.

OMG is working OMG OMG OMG Thanks alot dude!

  • I have a DVD that iDVD and iMovie don't recognize

I have a DVD that iDVD and iMovie don't recognize. It was a VHS tape that I had turned into a DVD by an outfit called The Video Lab.
    I have OS X 10.3.9, iDVD 5, iMovie HD
When I put this DVD into the superdrive it opens the DVD Player and will play on my Mac. It is apparently divided into 28 5 minute chapters or at least if I hit the skip icon it says Chapter 2, 5 minutes time showing.
Anyway the DVD has a folder labeled VIDEO_TS . Inside the folder are 8 files labeled:
    VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS010.BUP, VTS012.VOB, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VTS010.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB, VTS013.VOB, VTS011.VOB
Is there any way I can open this DVD in iDVD or iMovie so that I can use parts of it??

You need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, as well as the the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

I just did a clean install to Leopard, and I don't see iPhoto, iDVD, and

  • What is the best program to use to burn dvd's from iMovie?  I guess with ilife, idvd doesn't come with it anymore...

Please recommend a good program to use.  I just want to be able to put my movies from imovie to dvd for my family to watch on regular dvd player. I have been exporting it out to my home computer and burning with adobe premerie but gettings sick of having to use two computers.  Thanks for any info you can provide.

So is there no app on my Macbook Pro Retina with Mountain Lion that I can use to put IMovies on a disk??????
    Right.
    Seems really strange.
    Yes, very.
And IMovie 11 ( I assume it's the latest) has a menu item that says Share to IDVD. If they don't sell it anymore, why is it there?
It's there if you buy iDVD, you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • Unable to update iPhoto and iMovie. "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID"

I updated to Yosemite and all went well but for the message "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID" for the two apps iPhoto and iMovie. I have tried using the terminal window and used code that others have suggested and obtained a SmartSearch. I deleted everything in that folder and I still can't update these two apps. The other apps updated without problems. Thanks for any help.

For a couple of years now, the verson of the iLife apps that come preinstalled on new Macs are the Mac App Store (MAS) versions. MAS apps have the Apple ID that bought them encoded in the app as an anti-piracy scheme. Since these apps are preinstalled, before using any of the three apps, the new Mac owner must open the MAS, go to the Purchases pane and accept these apps into their MAS account. This allows the MAS to encode the owners Apple ID into the apps.
Failure to accept these apps into your account and have them encoded with your Apple ID before using one of them renders the apps "as is" and they cannot be updated or downloaded to another Mac. The only way that I know of to rectify the problem is to use OS X Recovery to erase the Mac and reinstall OS X and the iLife apps, so that the initial setup can be attempted again and the apps be accepted into the MAS account and encoded with the Apple ID.

  • What is the best way to Install ilife11 iDVD and iWeb onto an iMac with Maverick

    Hi:
I would like to purchase a new iMac. Since this does not come with iDVD or iWeb, I would like to install these two programs from my iLife11 DVD. Will this work?
I assume I would have to do a custom install so I do not overide the newer versions of iphoto and iMovie? Is that correct?
Will I perform the install in typical Mac fashion or do I have to do something special?
    Thanks a lot.

There must a better way to do this. The problem is, YOU CAN'T UNCHECK IPHOTO in the installer. You pretty much need all the support files which you can't see in the installer, but you usually don't want iphoto.
1 way to get around this is: Quit the installer if you launched it. Open the install disc > search = (any ilife app) > make visibility option 'invisible'. (if you don't know how, search invisible files in apple's help menu). run through the stuff to find a 'packages' (or some similar name) folder. Inside of that, I install everything except for what I don't want, which for me is the iphoto and imovie stuff.
Still there must a better way, maybe you can create your own installer from the packages w/ package maker or something and burn that image... Worth trying...
Please be assured that you will not get full integration between the current apps and the iLife apps in 10.9.x; Mavericks.  The apps don't have all the expected hooks to each other due end of product development. This seems to be the crux of the problems I've had testing to make an idvd dvd.
If you're running 10.9, I recommend moving on to current replacements that will work as expected. That way you won't be wasting time running down project problems.

  • IDVD and imovie will not import

I cannot import anything into iDVD or iMovie. I don't know if I have the wrong format, the files are too large, or what.
I had videos from my hi8 put onto DVD's. They are in individual folders marked "video TS"
They are "NTSC format. They are not "PAL" When I could not import them, I converted them in MPEG Streamclip to "DV" format, no luck. Then I tried MP4 format, no luck. I imported them using "file, import" into a new project. An error window appeared: Error during import. The file could not be imported: unknown error.
OR "The file could not be imported" and it named the file
I trashed the preferences file, also, just in case it was the software itself.
I HAVE to get a section of one of them removed for an eulogy next week.
    Any ideas?

Please use the Help Menu in iDvd and in the search field type in "Formats that work with iDvd".

  • Macbook Pro, iDVD, and iMovie

So, I have my shiny new 15" Macbook Pro, and I wanted to start editing movies and creating my DVD's. I have this external firewire drive that I've been using with my 12" Powerbook for a year now, and so I attach that to my Macbook, fire up iDVD, and attempt to render the DVD project I'd been working on.
It fails. Gets 2/3 of the way through and just mysteriously fails.
I hook this back up to my 12", and it does just fine.
I have similar problems trying to export from iMovie onto the drive, though it just hangs at some point, and never lets me finish.
I remove the fireire from the equation, and iMovie starts behaving a little better, though I've not had the chance to try and do the iDVD thing locally.
I'm a little concerned, because when I get to working with the video, I really could use the couple hundred gig the external drive gives me, and would really like to do this on the newer (theoretically faster) notebook.
    Any advice?

Buy and install an iLife 09 or 11 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.

  • How to use idvd and iMovie 11 to make a dvd

I have used earlier versions of iMovie to make dvdd but cannot here. May of the people speak of share options that do no exist she i go to share.
Where do I find the media browser for example?
    Thanks

Also answered in your duplicate thread:
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • How do I control storage location for iPhoto, iDVD and iMovie

My primary drive is getting full and I note that my User file has all of the iPhoto images, iDVD projects and iMovie projects.  I want to take these collections off the main drive and place them on one of my external hard drives to open up space on my primary drive (the one with the Applications, etc.) How do I control where my images and movies are filed when I use the above applications? I do not recall designating any save function to this folder or drive.  How can I save these files in a location on my external drives in tthe future? If I move these images and movies from my User file, will that cause a problem for iPhoto or iMovie or iDVD in finding the files in the future as I use these applications?

    Hi
They are using three different concepts - VERY UNLIKE APPLE to do like this !
    • iPhoto saves in a iPhoto library and there can be more than one - using the alt-key during up-start let's You to select which one You want to use and on Main Hard Disk at Root level in Photo folder.
    • iDVD - Save an iDVD Project file (sort of folder) where You want to find it.
    • iMovie - saves Event's and Project's in iMovie Event's resp Project's folders AND ONE MUST NOT alter or move anything in them or location of them - Moving Event's and Project's MUST BE DONE inside the iMovie Application !
So while one can move iMovie Event's and Project's to another Mac - the needed Photos (and audio from iTunes) will be missing and very hard to get iMovie on second Mac to find and recognice.
Yours (also confused - and moving step by step into the OLD FinalCut realm - Where everything makes SENSE !)
