IDVD application gone

I know I've burned dvd's with it. I have a superdrive, at least I did.
How do I check what drive I have? Could I have lost my Idvd application when I had my harddrive replaced? It's just gone. I'd like to burn DVD to back up photos, and am not sure if there's another way. I'll call the MAC store tomorrow to ask, but does anyone have a clue about what might have happened. Do I have to upgrade to ilife '08? I'd rather just keep what I have.

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
To see what you have, click the blue apple in left corner of menu bar, about this mac, more info, and disc burning. If you can burn DVD's it will say so.
It's possible idvd wasn't reloaded when your hard drive was replaced (not knowing how your programs were transferred to the new drive). You've already used finder (click apple key F) to search for idvd? If you've done that and it's not there, you can reload what shipped with your system off the original OS X discs for your system. Do you have those?
You don't need to buy iLife08, and if you did you couldn't use iMovie, which requires an Intel processor.
If you just want to do a data backup to dvd, there are several programs to do that. Go to http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx and type in dvd backup. One program, which I haven't used, but has 5 stars and is free is http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/29322 . Also, there's an Apple article on backup at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106941#2c

PLease, I am trying to install I DVD but it says that an eligible iDVD application was not found in the location /Applications.
    Somebody can help me?

It sounds as if you're trying to install an update rather than the actual application itself. iDVD is no longer included with new Macs and you'll need to use your original Applications disc to install it (or, if you never had it at all, but iLife '11 from Amazon to get iDVD).
    Good luck,

Because you need to buy iLife 08 or newer on DVD first. If you're using iDVD 05, you probably have a PowerPC Mac and can't use iLife 11.

  • My brand new iMac doesn't appear to have the iDVD application - how can I get it?

How can I get the iDVD application for my new iMac.  I want to use iDVD for conveniently making DVDs of iPhoto slide shows and iMovies.  I'd be greatful for any help.  I've already tried looking through my applications, the App Store, and various Apple help menus in Lion and the Apple Tech Support Web page - so far no luck, but perhaps I'm not seeing things right.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

  • IDVD app gone

I transferred my iDVD application to an external drive, and that crashed so now i don't have iDVD. How can I get iDVD again? thanks!

There really isn't much to be gained by putting iDVD on a an external drive unless you are also booting up from that external drive.
iDVD uses ONLY the boot hard drive for scratch space - no matter where the iDVD application is located. You can certainly store your iDVD Project files on an external drive.

  • Transferring and iDVD from the iDVD application to the iTunes library

How can one transfer an iDVD from the iDVD application to the iTunes library?

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • IWeb application gone

Recently I upgraded to Leopard, but when I did the iWeb application disappeared from the applications folder. I inserted the Leopard install DVD into the computer and tried to install iWeb from the "Optional Installs" folder. But iWeb was not one of the applications in the optional installs folder. How can I get iWeb back on my mac??
    thanks,
    sci92

You need to install iWeb from the original installation disks that came with your Mac....unless you bought iLife 08 separately, in which case you need to install them from the iLife 08 disk.
Are iPhoto, Garage Band and iMovie gone, too?

  • IChat, iPhoto, iMovie, Mail, Preview applications gone!

All of the applications that come standard with your Mac seem to be completely deleted! After seeing a question mark over the application icon in the dock, I searched far and wide on my mac for anything related to these applications and everything is gone. I do not know what happened. What should I do?!? I don't have the leopard disks and have yet to create a restore image. Ahhh!

and what happened to your leopard install disk? you need it to reinstall Mail and Preview. iphoto and iMovie are not part of the OS. they are part of iLife which comes for free with every new computer. however, they are not on the leopard install DVD. you need to reinstall them from the install disks that came with your computer or buy a stand alone version of ilife.

  • How do I make a DVD when iDVD is gone & iMovie exports in .m4v

I need to burn a DVD to play home videos in a DVD player. Since Apple killed off iDVD, I've wasted over 2 hours trying to figure out how I can create such a DVD-video. Someone suggested "Burn" but Burn only handles .avi or .mpeg files (which is the sort of thing one ought to mention when providing advice) and iMovie only exports .m4v files. So before I waste another hour trying to find a converter online, can anyone who:
has made a movie in iMovie
    has exported it successfully
has converted it from .m4v to .avi or .mpeg
has successfully burned it to a DVD-Video
has played it in a DVD-video player
tell me what software they used to achieve this.
    Thank you.

tell me what software they used to achieve this.
    iDVD.
Apple sells iDVD on disk as part of iLife 11.
Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U
IDVD remains a popular application in the Apple community. For a variety of obvious reasons Apple would prefer your movies to be stored on the cloud. Many people however prefer to have a physical copy, that they can possess, that is easily playable on over 700 million DVD players worldwide.

  • Application gone from iTunes

My Favorite Todo Application (Touchtodo) disappeared from iTunes about a week ago. It was a $1.99 ap and I use it a lot. My concern is if I ever have to reload it, as it's no longer there. There seems to be no updated forum for support, does anybody have any ideas about this or if it's temporary?

First off, back it up to a safe location (the app is in your iTunes Library/Mobile Applications folder).
Probably no one on these boards will know why it's gone or if it's temporary, but the developer might. Try contacting them:

  • IDVD application quits

Using iMovie I've created an 11 minute video with clips from my digital video camera, in it I have transitions, special effects and background music from iTunes. When I play the movie, it plays flawless from beginning to end. I then FILE, SHARED to create a iDVD on which I set the intro using some picttures and titles. Again when I play from iDVD it plays flawless and I saved it. The problem comes when I tried to burn a DVD-R, after about 20 minutes of encoding, the application quits everytime. I have 14Gigs of space in the hard-drive and no other applications were open at the time except for iMovie and iDVD. Any ideas? I'm lost, please help, thanks.

    Hello MRGZMO,
    try the following:
    • Quit iDVD, then find the iDVD preference file (com.apple.iDVD.plist). Delete it and empty the trash.
    • Repair permissions using Disk Utility and reboot
    • Try to free up some more disk space (20 GB free should be OK)
    • In addition you can clear Cache Files (Tools: CacheOutX, Onyx)
If you have chapter markers check "The Rules of Chapter Markers":
    - No chapter markers on or within 2 seconds of a transition.
    - No chapter markers within 2 seconds of the beginning or the end of the movie.
    hope this helps
    mish

  • Themes lost while copying iDvd application from backup

    Hi
i had iLife 06' when i got my computer. i backed up the each applications. after that, i formatted my computer, and now when i copied the application files, all the themes are missing from iDvd. iMovie just worked fine. Do you have any suggestions on how to get those themes back? or is there any way i can download those themes?
Also, is there any trial iLife 09' available? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

since the switch of Sys9 >> MacOsX, it is not enough to just drag'n drop an app from HDD1 to HDD2 for copying it .. apps are (very) complexed stored all around the harddrive..
for a 'real' backup you should have 'clone' the whole harddrive.. then, no files are lost..
or, use MacOs' Migration Assistent to transfer content from one HDD to another..
use your installer disks, your Mac came with; they allow a custom re-install of just an app..
    no downloads avail.
    no trial of iLife09 avail.

  • Phone Applications Gone! Help me please

Yesterday I made a back up of my 6270, and subsequently formatted the memory card (due to a problem with the camera which had previously been solved this way) and restored the back up file on my phone.
This morning I noticed that my phone applications (i.e. calculator, world clock, etc.) and games are all gone!
Why did this happen? How can I restore these applications?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for your reply.
I really don't think that these applications were installed on the memory card. I am talking about the applications that come with the phone, and I am using a different memory card now.
Curiously, other applications I installed later are still there.
Does anyone know how the original phone applications can be restored?
    Thanks in advance!
