IDVD AUDIO ENCODING .. APPLE NEEDS TO FIX IT!

It would be nice if they would reply to this. I cannot complete my projects.
After trying EVERY TIP on this 200 + posts on the subject ( except pulling my RAM out ).. I have found only one solution:
Using iMovie .. save back to your camcorder.. then
Open iDVD and use the "OneStep Movie" feature.
Time:
30 min iMovie = 30 min. back to camera + 30 off of camera to iDVD + 30 min for encoding. ( approx )

..also .. when encoding ( video encodes first ) .. as soon it gets to audio encoding .. the Activity Monitor shows iDVD as "Not responding" as well as a 10% or lower ( which seems to be 5% with dual processors ) processing CPU power when the "audio encoding starts" .. this is trhe same thing that HANGS FOR HOURS .. on the SAME video.. but a few short min. later ( if you use OneStep DVD ) the audio finishes ( you wouldnt know from the progress bar, but the Activity Monitor shows iDVD jump starting .. and the processor kicks back in gear) ..and burns the DVD..
What a pain in the *** ... but it works.

  • IDVD audio encoding error

I currently have 10 different quicktime files that i've created by exporting 10 different iMovie projects.
I've created an iDvd project and dragged all 10 .dv files in. Everything works well in the preview. the total project is 3.6 out of the 4GB available.
the entire project is on an 250 GB external harddrive attached to a mac laptop (so having available space is not the problem, i have over 130 gigs free)
i press burn, and the encoding begins. everything's running smoothly for two hours, all the videos are encoded. once it reaches "Audio encoding" i come across an error. it recommends me to "Delete Encoded Assets" and try again.
Which i have, and it's still not working.
    Something about the Track.
i've created dvd's before with this exact same hardware. I even just created one now, using just one of the quicktime files. For some reason, this big project just won't happen and i'm on the edge of reason here.
    I'd appreciate any help.

Is there any audio associated with the video?

  • IMovie audio stutter+ iDvD audio encoding = Toast ?

In the 8 days since I finally got into iMovie, then iDvD, I've encountered both the skittery / unstable audio Playback of iMovie audio & now iDvd's audio encoding issues . [ app "not responding" while still chuggin' away, etc\etc. ]
It was good to hear from an iApp specialist that these are known issues being 'addressed'.
But it's quite disheartening when a GoOgle ( or Forum ) Search shows woes & hope from 2005 & before.
Will iLife 7 iron out much ? [ or introduce a whole new set for us to spend months grappling with ? ]
My real question here, well the head-of-the-line question ! . . . is > after reading a Macobserver post from 2/06 on Toast 7, I have to wonder if it fills in many gaps and opens the pallette while solving some problems.
It doesn't have slide transitions , but it's work could go to iMovie/iDvd ??
( too many toys in the toybox !! -- pardon my overwhelment )
One hard-fact question that's more answerable is > After my 1st "hung in audio // not responding" Disk Image burn , a Wec-Chat Agent considered it 'dead' & I cancelled it. Is there a headless body in a folder somewhere ?, and is that what "delete encoded assets" is for ??

So !...I'm a' confused w/ all the ways to 'archive'
an iMovie project. i created an .img, a
Data-Disc...which could burn a DvD of the project,
but not open in iMovie...yes ?
Warning: we're going to jump a bit from topic to topic.
    • An archive is a backup copy of something. The purpose of the archive is to preserve the thing as it exists today. An archive of an iMovie project "captures" it as it exists today. If necessary, months from now you can use the archive to re-create the project as it exists today.
    • The archive can take many forms. It can be stored as a disk image — a file stored on your computer that uses a .dmg suffix and looks and acts like a hard disk. Or it can be a ".zip" file created in the Finder. Or it can be a simple duplicate of the project stored on a hard disk or DVD. (A disk image file or zip file does not save significant hard disk space. An iMovie project can't be compressed to any significant extent.)
    • iMovie's menu command File > Burn Project to Disc is there for the convenience of iMovie users wanting to copy the project to a DVD — as a computer file. But iMovie can burn a DVD only if the entire iMovie project fits on one disc. Technically, it doesn't create an standalone archive, it simply copies the project — with all the files and folders the project contains — onto the DVD, then burns the DVD.
    • The Finder lets us create an standalone archive of a file or folder, using the File > Create Archive Of command. The command copies everything to a file that has a ".zip" suffix. If we want, we can tell the Finder to burn the zip file onto a DVD. The zip file has to fit on one DVD.
    • Backup applications like Retrospect can create archives too. Retrospect can store the archive on a variety of media. The backup is stored in a format only Retrospect understands.
    • Most of us also have another backup solution available to use with iMovie. Exporting the iMovie project back to tape is a good backup. For most projects, the clips return as clips when the tape is re-imported to a new project. Clips like titles and transitions are no longer editable, of course. Note you must re-import the material to access it.
IS there a way to save a 29 GB project to one DvD
    • Regrettably, no. An iMovie (or iDVD) project cannot be larger than will fit on one DVD. Most iMovie projects are larger, of course. For them, the File > Burn project to disk command cannot be used.
    • Software exists, however, that lets us back up an iMovie (or iDVD) project across multiple DVDs. These include Toast and Retrospect, the pre-eminent Mac backup software.
    • iMovie projects stored on DVDs have one huge disadvantage, however. We must copy the project back to the hard drive to open it in iMovie. iMovie doesn't let us open a project stored on a DVD, for Movie can't write to the disc. (The DVD is, by definition, a locked medium.)
Note too that if the backup DVD is created by Retrospect, Retrospect is required to copy it back to the hard disk. (Sorry, I'm not familiar with Toast.)
    • The Finder's File > New Burn Folder lets us burn computer files to a DVD as files. It can copy disk images, zip files and any other kind of computer files and folders to the DVD. Used in this way, the DVD functions like a small hard disk. It can't burn across multiple DVDs.
    • A DVD containing data files is different from the DVD iDVD normally creates for us. DVD Normally creates TV-playable DVDs, not data-file DVDs. For these, iDVD encodes the video of our iMovie projects as MEPG-2 video, the language a DVD player understands. No computer data files are involved, at least not files a computer normally understands.
    • The iDVD command File > Archive Project serves a different purpose than the archive of an iMovie project. Yes, it backs up the iDVD project too, but we usually make it for a different reason.
The iDVD project has no video or audio of its own, just a link to the reference movie iMovie stores inside the iMovie project. If we want to be able to burn a DVD of the current iMovie project some time later, or burn a DVD after the iMovie project has been discarded, we will have a problem. The source material may be gone. The iDVD archive solves this problem by storing a copy of the source material inside its archive.
So If you want to preserve an iDVD project as it exists today you can tell iDVD to create an archive the includes all the necessary source material from the iMovie project. Now the source material will be "static". We can open the archive sometime later, edit the DVD menus if we want, and burn another DVD.
    • iDVD also offers the File > Save As Disk image. This command is not associated with archiving. This command is almost the same as burning a DVD, but it "burns" the encoded material as a disk image file instead of a physical DVD.
The disk image can be played in DVD Player on our Macs, and we can use Disk Utility to burn a DVD of the disk image.
"Burning" a disk image from iDVD is a good way to check the encoding by iDVD. If the disk image "burns" okay, the physical DVD we burn with Disk Utility will probably be okay too.
    • As you suggested, the best solution may be an external hard drive. It's not only the easiest to use, it lets us access the iMovie project whenever we want.
    • Much of what I've said is associated with routine backups, so I want to say a word about those. We always need backups of our important projects. At the very least, we need to keep a copy on a separate drive. Drives fail.
Experts say that we need to back up our computers daily, and maintain three backup copies, called backup sets. We need two backup sets that we alternate every day or so, both stored on site. And a third backup set stored off-site. (Off-site because our beach house may burn down and the high tides caused by global warming may carry the ashes out to sea.)
Retrospect does an incremental backup for me each night, backing up all the Macs in the house. The on-site backup not being used by Retrospect is stored in a fireproof data safe — a fireproof paper safe isn't cool enough. The third backup set is stored in a safe deposit box at a bank. I rotate the bank set every month or so with one of the two in-house backup sets. The two in-house backup sets are rotated every few days.
For backup media I use "bare" drives connected to a Firewire "dock", like this ComboDock. The drives snap on/off in seconds.

    • Some on-line retailers include Retrospect with the drives they sell.
    Hope something here is useful.

  • IDVD audio encoding - Spinning Beach Ball (Help)

I have a project with two separate movies ( 31 minutes each). I've added menus for each and third sub-menu to show information about each. I've tried to create a disk image for the project. Everytime it reaches "audio encoding" it stops in the process with the spinning beachball.
I've upgraded the OS to 10.4.7 and Quicktime to 7.1.2 recently. I have not had this happen before with other projects and have been able to create the disk image to burn the DVD with Toast. Is anyone having a similar problem after upgrading?
I trashed the original DVD project and rebuilt another with the same results.
    I'm open to suggestions.

  • Volume on iphone is very low, this is a common problem, Apple Needs to FIX!

I have a new iphone 3GS that I got at the end of July, 2009. Since then i've been having problems with the volume! I called support because i had this problem along with my screen turning blank and freezing up. Support said to take the case off and this might help. well it did help the screen issue (which is kind of dumb when you think about it because the case is supposed to protect the phone and instead it caused it to malfunction!!,wierd), but the volume issue never really changed. I am hearing impaired and I do wear hearing aids, BUT....I have ALWAYS been able to use cell phones that have good loud volume, as i need to remove my aids to use the phone. My LG phone had BEAUTIFUL volume, never had a problem!
So, then I started to do some research and saw this is a very common problem! everyone I know that has an iphone has this problem, and all these people are normal hearing people! So then i decided to just get some really good, superduper headphones, because the headphones that came with the phone were ok, but i had to hold them in my ears.
The other day i bought the new Bose in-ear headphones with superior sound quality and at $130 bucks, they better be and the are compatable with the iphone. But.....again, while actually talking to someone on the phone the sound, even with the headphones and all volumes max'd, was still very low!! and i know its not the headphones because listening to the ipod is fantastic! it must be the phone!!!
I even used the "accessibility" setting that is on the phone and selected the mono audio feature which pushes both L&R sounds through one channel, and still doesnt help!
I even called support back today and one guy said i had to "restore" my phone by plugging it into my computer (not really sure what he means) but we got disconnected and the other guy said that i should bring my phone into the apple store. Both tech guys denied that there are lots of calls or complaints about this....but as you all know from reading the many posts, that this is a very common problem!!!
I think Apple should do the right thing and recall these phones or at least fix them or SOMETHING!!!! this volume issue is internally, because when i make a call and an automated voice comes on, it works fine (majority of the time) but as soon as a live voice comes on the phone, the volume drops! there must be some type of automatic voice adjuster that is just not working properly. I mean i love my phone!!! But....i cant use it!!! And now, im going to have to return my Bose headphones and try to find something else.
    Can anyone really help me?????

    stewa348 wrote:
I agree with you about the volume on the phone itself. (I have 3Gs). It needs to be louder. I also wear hearing aids. However I do think there may be something wrong with your phone because when I connect my earbuds (Klipsh) I get very good volume through them. In fact at full volume it's way too loud. I would push for a replacement phone.
FWIW, my daughter (who also wears hearing aids) has trouble hearing her iphone. It appears to have more to do with the speaker not being lined up with the hearing aid's input. Her audiologist pointed out that some current hearing aids support bluetooth, I think we will get those next time we replace her hearing aids.

  • Apple needs to fix it or give support to those that own their products

I have been working all day to resolve that the new version of itunes doesn't recognize my Ipod nano g4.  I have re-re-tried all problem solving steps on ipod trouble shooting. Evidently many are in the same bind.  I did  read that the 10.1 itunes had an unpublished problem-so they came up with 10.4.1 to correct it.  So I installed it… I only wanted to add some songs to my ipod.  It works fine. Except itunes will not recognize it.   It would seem the manufacturers’ software has made it so many can’t use their products the way they were meant to be used and they have left quite a few of us in the wake of their mistake with out support for the product they sold us…no explanation or help as most of us owners of the older models time of tech support is expired   Good customer service means a company will stand behind their product – with all I have read today I feel sure they are aware of the problem they have caused.  Try acting like a company that doesn’t have a captured audience!

I know I am not talking to Apple. When I put my serial # and model # I found there is no support it has expired.  I am hopeful that if enough have the problem and it is stated they will fix it .  I have no other way to communicate with this company ( that I have found)  if you know a way I would be grateful

  • Apple needs to fix mp4 playback today

yes, i've read the posts, and i'm not interested in downgrading from quicktime 7.4.1 with Pacifist.
mp4 videos that used to play fine in quicktime (or safari) no longer do.
i have several mp4 videos on my .mac web gallery that used to load and play just fine in safari that no longer work. this is a service i PAY for that is un-funk-shun-al.
the only way to view them is to download them and use VLC. or amazingly iTunes 7.6.1 ??? doesn't really play along with the .mac gallery concept.
what the f^@# Apple? i think someone else is probably all over you about this issue, but here's my SHOUT OUT.
i've used 4 different personal apple machines, including several other public machines at local coffee houses, to try and play these files, and none of them work. for a company that leverages it's ease of use and a standard of "it just works" please get it together.
for those who've read this far, i'm obviously not seeking advice, rather I hope to motivate the attention of the almighty and transcendent beings of the infinite loop.
just my 2 cents, or $89 per year (call me a sucker, but i've had the same spam free email address since '99).

  • Has Apple fixed the audio encoding problem?

As many other people seems to have experienced before me, iDVD6 stops working when encoding audio. Everything works before that step but when it reaches the "Audio Encoding" sequence iDVD stops working. Did Apple fix the problem? What else can we do?
    Thanks for any reply.

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   PowerMac G4

I followed your advice and restarted at 6:00 pm last night - this morning it was still going on - over 13 hours! The funny thing this time is that I got the 'rainbow ball' encoding audio at the beginning of the 3rd step, 'Processing movie' after only 1-1/2 hour. The last time I burned the same project, I got the 'rainbow ball' encoding audio message at the end of the 3rd step - in other words, it had processed the entire movie (which took 6 hours) and then began the encoding audio phase. I'm letting it run while I'm at work, but do you think there might be something else going on?
Here are some facts which apply to both times that I have tried burning the DVD project:
    1. I have iMovie project (26Gb) on my external drive with about 15 Gb available space
    2. and the iDVD project is on the internal hard drive with about 50 Gb of available space
The reason I moved the iMovie project to the external drive was because I would have only had about 24 Gb of available space if I left it on the internal drive (less than the movie itself).
Which drive is doing all the encoding and needing the most space - the internal or the external? I was assuming it was the internal drive. Should I move the iMovie project back to my internal drive and start over?
Thanks again - I'm a new member of this site and so far, it has been very helpful and informative!

  • Crashing in iDVD 6.2 during encoding - is there a fix for this at all?

I have been having problems all weekend with this. I am running a G5 as per my signature below. I just cannot get past the encoding part of the procedure.
The application either hangs with the rotating beachball, or crashes completely, either at the video encoding stage or audio stage. I have tried all of the suggested fixes like deleting certain cache files and prefs etc, you name it, ive tried it. The programme is even unstable prior to beginning encoding. I've tried running the application alone with no other progs running, ive tried disconnecting uneccessary equipment, deleting non apple vide plugins etc, but nothing
Judging by the number of postings about this, it seems its a pretty major problem for G5 users. But are there any proven fixes for this?
    Im goin nuts here!
    Thanks
    Bob

I know what you're going through Bob, but it finally worked for me!
I have had the exact same problem - spinning beachball, and then a kernel panic. I was encoding a 35 minute disc which would enter the audio encoding stage, apparently freeze with the spinning beachball and then sit there (in my case for approximately 1.5 hours) while it did its thing. However, my disc didn't eventually finish like most people have been reporting. Just like Bob, mine would eventually crash (faded black screen prompting a restart). I tried the process 4 times, each time with the same result.
    Here are things I tried:
-converting all mp3s to AAC and AIFF
-exporting my movie into a .mov and then importing it back to iMovie for final touches (titles, chapters, etc)
    -disabling Limewire
-running the Apple Hardware Test off of my install disc to check for bad RAM
None of these worked. I ended up reinstalling the system software that came with my MacBook Pro 17" (10.4.6). This included Quicktime 7.0.4. I'm not sure which of these made the difference but it worked! In 2 hours I had my DVD disc image created successfully. Burning this to a DVD+R worked as it should.
Bob, if it is crucial that you get this disc done ASAP, try reverting to the previous version of Quicktime, and if this doesn't work, try to revert back to 10.4.6.
I couldn't believe my eyes when it finally worked! I've been fiddling for a few days on this.
I hope this gives you some hope, Bob. I understand the frustration. My trusty TiBook crashed perhaps twice in the 5.5 years I had it. This one, in the past month since I've had it has crashed the OS multiple times in iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, and Safari. I'm not at all impressed.
Now, since going back to 10.4.6 my laptop won't wake from sleep. I still have another movie project to create in the next couple weeks. Should I brave reinstalling 10.4.7??
    The best to you,
    Sloets

  • Export audio issues. Need fix soon.

It seems like I am having an issue that may be opposite to most issues.
I am trying to export my presentation and no matter what I try, it always includes full volume for every video. I even have the volume slider set to nothing for every single video. When I play my presentation back on my computer in presenter mode, it works fine. But when it exports to any file type it just includes everything into one big horrible audio mess. And as a bonus, it keeps playing the video's audio after the slides transition. Believe me, the middle of the presentation sounds like an exorcism.
    I have Keynote 6.2
I really need a fix for this pronto. This presentation has my job on the line. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
Since Apple makes us find our own solutions to their bugs...
    Thanks.

There are a number of unfinished controls that Apple needs to address with Quicktime export.
Changing the sound volume does not carry over in the export.
I don't export to Quicktime anything other than stills and an audio track because of these issues, instead I use Final Cut Pro for all video work.

  • HT1349 The iPhone 4S setting (white on black) it is so cool! But one thing that I don't know if Apple is aware of this glitch or not, but they need to fix it, when you go to that mode every picture and every icon go to negative view, has anyone experience

One very COOL feature on iPhone 4S that I just discovered, is the (White on Black) display mode, which is so cool and atrictive. When you go to that mode, every picture on the iPhone, facebook, icons and every other applications that displays a picture are effected, native or installed Apps. that displays a picture goes in to negative view, if you want to view your pictures, you have to go back to the default setting, very disappointing.
This is a very cool feature and Apple needs to find a way that all photos are immune and preserved from the conversion when a user switches to that mode.
Love to hear your comments and suggestions and I'm sure that Apple developers can come up with a solution to fix the glitch.
