IDVD Background Noise (not on iMovie or QuickTime)

So I created several movies in iMovie with no issues.  I can upload them to my website and play them back, YouTube, play them back in QuickTime, etc, with no issues.  But when I convert them in iDVD and play the DVD back, I get terrible background noise in all sorts random spots.  Can anyone help or provide advice on how to fix this (or a different software I could use besides iDVD that would resolve this issue)?  It's extremely frustrating.

Thanks for the replies guys.

  • I movies work with sound in quicktime but not in imovie hd!!!

I have clips that worked in imovie hd before but all of a sudden the sound will not work, but they will work in quicktime....any ideas?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Some clips - which started life not as DV camcorder clips, but might be .AVI, or somesuch, downloaded from the web, or shot as movies with a digital stills camera - may have audio in QuickTime but not in iMovie.
QuickTime understands and replays many different file formats (..see all the different file formats QuickTime Player can handle, in the right-hand column here..) ..some of which iMovie can't handle.
If your clips "..worked in imovie hd before but all of a sudden the sound will not work.." it might be because you'd had QuickTime open in the background, previously, or because you'd altered them in some way ..or maybe you 'Extracted' their audio, but don't have the check-boxes ticked for the audio tracks at the right-hand edge of the Timeline.
The most important question is: were these clips originally from a tape-based DV camcorder, or did you import them from something else, e.g; web, hard disc camcorder, DVD camcorder, .AVI or other iMovie-incompatible origins?

  • HELP! "Reduce background noise" changes from audio clip to clip, even though the percentage is the SAME. At my wit's end...

I am working on a lengthy editing project and am near tears at this point. Any and all advice would be deeply appreciated.
I am using  a2012 MacBook Pro running Mavericks (10.9.5) and iMovie 10. I have been using the "reduce background noise" feature in iMovie 10, with movies where audio is detached, and I have a series of clips stitched together (the result of editing, or adding voiceovers). I'll add 4% reduce to the first clip, and it sounds great. I do the same to the second clip and it sounds as though the setting is at 100% — even if it's at 0%. In other words, the audio is really distorted.
I have tried relaunching iMovie and the MacBook itself, to no avail. The first clip is fine, all those that follow sound horrible, no matter how I change the setting.
Again, any and all advice or suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks!

I'm not sure if anyone is going to read or respond to my plea, but just in case, I thought I'd better update.  I went into our local Verizon store today and explained my problems.  I was nervous to do so because I didn't purchase my phone there and didn't know if they'd refuse to help based on that fact.  The local store of a competing carrier will not help you if your phone wasn't purchased in their store.
What I found out was that my method for pulling the battery was wrong.  I didn't realize the phone needed to be turned on when you did that.  I did it the correct way and now most of my problems are gone.  The one problem it is still having is not being able to update from 2.2.1

  • IMovie '06 will not open - says a Quicktime update is required

iMovie '06 will not open for me. I get a message saying that, "QuickTime update required - iMovie requires QuickTime version 7.5.0 or later, which can be downloaded from www.apple.com/quicktime." And the only button displayed is "Quit".
The problem is, my QuickTime Player is already at Version 7.5 (149.5) (and beneath that it says 'QuickTime Version 7.5.0 (861)').
Any idea how I can get iMovie '06 to realise that I do in fact have the up-to-date version of QuickTime?

Hi Michael and welcome to the forums!
Did you restart and repair permissions after updating Quicktime?
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • Quicktime 10.2 wil not run iMovie 9

Why won't quicktime 10.2 not run iMovie 9?

Because iTunes is 11.03 and you are way behind. Most things are now 10.7.5 or later and have moved to new code base.

  • MacBook Air microphone picking up background noise and not my voice?

Hello! I really like my MacBook Air. It is truly the best computer I have ever had. However, I was very disappointed whenever I attempted to use my MacBook Air's micrphone to find that it was picking up the background noise, and not my voice. I can hear my voice whenever I record something, but it is very quiet, like the background noise cancelling software is treating my voice like the background noise and the background noise like my voice. For example, it picks up every little bump on the computer and every click and press of the key, but it won't pick up my voice at full volume! I know it is not a software problem as I reinstalled OS X, and whenever that didn't work, I erased and reinstalled OS X. Any suggestions?

macbook Air condenser mic assy. is easy to remove and replace.  (see pic below of Air mic assembly).
Mics are delicate instruments as is their nature, however the damage you experienced is either damage, or defect, nobody can know.
However I can accurately say without doubt its very rare what you experienced.
the little condenser unit could have been defective, and gave out, or myriad other possible's. I cannot pinpoint it over the web, even if I had it in my hands, still couldnt because youd have to dissect the tiny little mics to find out, and nobody will do that, just yank the old, and install the new ones.
a 'painless' repair however to be certain, quick and easy to do.

  • When Burning a DVD from IDVD it does not encode Video

I am having trouble burning a DVD that will not freeze. All of them come out and are read by DVD players of all kinds, but it gets about 3 minutes into the video, and it freezes. I saved as Image to Disk, and it went through the Burning process flawlessly and played through in its entire contents, but then when I tried to burn it to a DVD, it made the menus fine, but when it came to encoding the video, it skipped that part and went straight to encoding audio and it did not work. It came out with just a little video on there, but it did not use the same process as the Save Disc to Image did. When I saved Disc to Image it played through the whole project in kind of a slow motion. The Burning to a DVD did not do that at all.
    Please HELP!

I do not have 20gb free on my start up drive. I will once I delete the bulk of the project. How can I save the project to make sure that when I delete the big project, the parts that I have edited and want to not get deleted?
As for my Imovie, It is a 22 minute long home video that does include 5 chapter markers, including the one that starts the movie from the begining. There is music for every clip from my itunes. The theme i chose is the first one listed on the list. It starts in from the right side, and then scrolls across at the top. All of the menus work fine when i play my burned DVD. In fact, everything works fine except for that one part when it freezes up.
I do not understand what you mean by adding my movie to a drop zone and not to the background. The way i started it on Idvd was by clicking, create an Idvd from the menu on imovie.
I made a new step of progress and i got the encoding of the video, but it still did not work. It froze at 3:03 instead of 3:27, 3:38, or any of the others. This is the second disk i have made though that will play on my Powerbook. It freezes on everything else though.

  • IDVD won't find some iMovies

Problem: I am making a DVD in iDVD 5. My first. Anyway I have several projects that are not too big in iMovie and I want to put them all on one DVD. I hit the Media tab and it shows my iMovies folder but there are two iMovie projects that are missing. I will open Finder and look in the real iMovie folder and all my projects are there but when I try to open it through iDVD two just do not show up. I have tried importing the missing movies but if I put them in another folder- they still do not show up in the Media window. Help!
    Thanks Anna.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Here's another way to import: Use Finder to locate the iMovie project you'd like to import,
    - Right-click and Show Package Contents
    - Open the Shared then the iDVD folders, and you'll see the Quicktime version of your iMovie.
    - Drag and drop the Quicktime file onto the menu area of iDVD (not the drop zone). It will now load into iDVD.
    - Repeat for your other productions.

  • Reduce or eliminate background noise

I have seen this issue touched upon in other forums, but really need a straightforward answer to this question as we are working on a project for a school teacher that is retiring, and want to give her a good memory to take with her. Unfortunately, when the person taking the video was doing it, they did it near screaming children. So we have interviews with students that we can barely hear due to the background noise. (We are on a tight deadline so a second take is not an option).
The question is: step-by-step using iMovie HD 06, can we reduce the background noise so that we can eliminate or reduce the screaming children in the background, and keep the sound of the child that is speaking?
If this can be accomplished by the equalizer, again please provide pretty specific instructions, as I can be dense at time.
I can raise the volume on the soundtrack, but that seems to make both the child's voice louder and the background noise louder.
Please! Any help would be immensely appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    As Karsten writes.
There are no magic audio program that can differ sound You want from sound You don't.
As I learned from TV-broadcasting. Most TV-programs are dubbed. Original audio
    out and playback audio added.
Yes all text has to be lip-sync-read one more time. Tedious but this is how
some in Street talks are done. (You don't hear a car although You see them)
BUT: With expert microphone tech. Special mic which has to be mouth close placed and
a very narrow uptake much can be done - but most often by Pro-people.

  • ISight videos with heavy background noise

    Hi,
Last 2 mths, whenever I try to record something using the internal mic on iSight there is a heavy heavy distortion/background noise. My voice gets recorded over this heavy noise.
This is the link. Please take a look.

But when I connect an external mic....the noise disappears.
    Can someone please help me?......

I dont have any account setting in my mac...I am the only user.
The level slider for the mic is set at more then 3/4.
    Thanks for your help.

You're welcome, and thanks for the new info.
We are trying to determine whether your trouble is in your hardware (which would require repair by a technician) or is a problem in an individual application, user account, or perhaps even some system software component that you might be able to correct on your own.
I did not specifically ask that you do so earlier, but you should create another user account now. More than one account will allow you to test to determine whether the problem is limited to your original (administrator) user account. If you need instructions for how to create a new account, search your MacBook's Finder > Help for "new user account" (without quotation marks.)
Having created the new user account, you can try all of the following suggestions:
    (0) If the noise is not there when you play any other YouTube videos, you can be sure the problem is not with your audio output circuitry or speakers.
    (1) Built-in iSight has no microphone of its own; it uses your Mac's built-in mic for sound input. Based on the info you have posted to date, your MB's built-in mic may have hardware problems.
You can test this by checking whether your saved clips that use your Mac's inbuilt mic have the same noise regardless of: (a) whether or not you are making any sounds during the recording, (b) whether you record using either Photo Booth or iMovie to record an iSight video clip, and (c) whether your try these tests in either your original or newly created user account.
Unless the problem is the same in all these tests, note any difference you encounter so you can tell the technician (in the event that professional service is eventually determined to be necessary.)
    (2) You could download and apply the 10.5.8 COMBO update:
      http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
Use your MacBook's Disk Utility to repair permissions before the update and again IMMEDIATELY after the restart that finishes the installation.
Then test again to see if the problem persists.
Although I doubt that it will correct your particular problem, properly applying the Combo Update costs nothing but a bit of time, and it has been reported to correct a variety of strange problems for many of us users.
    (3) If none of the suggestions you get here resolves your problem, and if the problem never appears when you use your external mic, your problem seems likely to be a hardware problem in your MacBook.
In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
I suggest that you backup all your important files before relinquishing your Mac for service.
