IDVD Burning then not burning

Hi,
I have created my project in iDVD and I am making multiple copies. iDVD burns to DVD ok and the DVD's play fine in a DVD player or PC. After the 6th DVD the discs are now blank even though the iDVD progress bar tells me it has been burnt them.
I tried re-creating the DVD again and exactly the same thing happened again. After 2 discs thet don't play. Am I doing something wrong?
Dame

I can burn about 2 disks then I start to get a message saying 'burn cannot be verifyed'
It sounds like something in your drive is heating up - I guess the drives in our computers may not be designed for 'production' use. You may have to adjust your disc burning duty cycle to something like do a burn, wait 15 minutes, do another burn, wait 15 minutes, etc. This should give your drive a chance to cool down.

Go to the Map mode in your iDVD project and make sure the blue bin at the left is empty.  That's where you drag slideshows to if you want the DVD to open immediately to that slideshow and bypass the menu.
If there is an item in there drag it out.

  • IDVD burned disk does not start at main menu

The IDVD burned disk starts randomly in the middle of the disk. Cannot access the main menu. I started with an IMovie with chapter headings, videos and pictures. Then shared it with IDVD, created themes, music, changed the headers, etc. Burned the disk using the File Burn DVD command. The disk takes over 1 1/2 hours (IMovie orginal is 15 minutes) to burn.

Hello to all of you first-timers here!
    Welcome to the discussions.
First, are you using iMovie 9?
Did you set chapter markers in iMovie? Did you follow the Chaper Marker Rules?
RULES: No marker at the beginning of your movie, no markers within 2 seconds of the beginning or end of the movie, and no markers on or within 2 seconds of your movie.
Next, did you put your movie in iDVD and then go make any changes to it? Sometimes that causes the chapters to default to the same spot in the movie. The only solution is to recreate the iDVD project.
You should first try deleting iDVD's preference file. You can find this by closing iDVD, going to your Home file (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new one when you relaunch it.
    Reopen iDVD.
Try creating the disk image file again or burning a disk again.
If that results in the same problem, create a new iDVD project. Then, drag in the iMovie project from the Media/Movies pane in iDVD instead of sharing it from iDVD.
Post back if that does not resolve the issue.

  • IDVD 06 is not up to burning 16/9 anamorphic

I have put together a process that works (thanks to this discussion board). But the burn still comes out with pulsing light, and now pixilated breakup when there is any movement. I have replaced my superdrive, updated to 06, have QT Pro. I just don't think it works. Has anyone cut a 16/9 anamorphic DVD (with iDVD) that was not flawed?
Here is the process I use:
    1. Export the movie from Final Cut Express (uncheck self contained). Open in QT. If the movie is displayed at 16:9 widescreen in QuickTime Player, there's no need to continue these steps. iDVD will treat the movie as widescreen. If the movie is displayed in QT at 4:3 or 3:2 (not widescreen), continue with the steps below.
    2. Choose Window > Show Movie Properties.
    3. In the Properties window, click Video Track in the Name column.
    4. Click the Visual Settings button.
    5. Deselect the checkbox for Preserve Aspect Ratio.
    6. Change the Scaled Size (you should see the ratio changing in QT)
For NTSC, enter 975 x 548. (multiplying the first number by .5625 gets you the correct size for the second number (9 divided by 16)
    7. Now the movie should be displayed at a 16:9 aspect ratio.
    8. Choose File > Save to save the movie. Now you're ready to create a widescreen iDVD project that will handle the movie as intended.
    9. Save as a disc image once your iDVD project is completed. Then open your disk utilities, drag the yourproject.img on to the left hand side and press "burn". It will ask you to insert a blank dvd, and once inserted you can select the speed at which you burn (pull down menu at the top). Always select 4x to minimise burn problems and always verify the disc

    Hi,
I just successfully burned an anamorphic project (1.5 hours) with iDVD following the same steps as you, except for the last one - I burn from within iDVD - and your "Scaled Size." If your video was shot in standard definition, you want to keep as close as possible to regular TV screen size (720x480) for best quality. Obviously, since your project is supposed to be 16:9, you need to rescale. I usually use 854x480 (height multiplied by 1.78.) I think your poor quality outcome is due to unnecessarily blowing up your footage.
Give it a try with the dimension I use and see what happens.
    Good luck!

  • Idvd burned to dvd+r not compatible with pc?

i've dragged an imovie to idvd, burned a dvd+r and turned it over to someone to show on a pc, and it's not reading.
    i would appreciate your help!
    thanks.

The DVD drives on some PCs will have trouble with DVD-R, but should be fine with +R. You might want to try reducing errors by slowing down the burning process and using the highest quality media (Verbatim is often recommended; I also use Sony). To burn slowly, you'll need to create a disc image from iDVD, and with older versions of iDVD, I've read that Patchburn software is needed. Search this forum for details.

  • Why doesn't iDVD burn changes made within iMovie?

I have iMovie 6.0.3 and iDVD 6.0.3 and have made several movies and DVDs over the past few years. But now have hit something very frustrating....
    1) I've just completed a movie in iMovie. Took it to iDVD, created menus etc. then burned it to a DVD-RW. Noticed a couple of changes I wanted to make, namely a soundtrack volume adjustment, and a subtitle change (within iMovie). Made the changes in iMovie.
    2) When I opened iDVD again, it said it noticed some changes in the iMovie project and would I accept them. Answered yes. When I reviewed these changes in iDVD preview, all was well. It showed the new subtitle.
    3) Did another burn (3-4 hour process, mostly encoding) to disk image. Lo and behold, this new movie still showed the OLD subtitle!!
    4) Deleted this disk image file. Checked the iDVD preview again, and it showed the corrected subtitle. Created a NEW disk image (for the THIRD time!) and four hours later discover that the OLD subtitle is still there!!!
What the heck is going on?? iMovie file was modified, resulting iDVD project file reflected the change, but the "burn" result does NOT reflect the change!!!! Why is iDVD Burn sill picking up the old version of my movie?____
    Thanks-

You're right. Only selecting Advanced>Delete Encoded Assets did the trick. Otherwise, even though iDVD recognizes that the iMovie file had changed, it doesn't necessarily "pick up" all the changes ....unless you Delete Encoded Assets.
I don't know which changes iDVD does or doesn't pick up, but in future I will always Delete Assets to be sure. Saves lots of time in the long run.
    THANKS for your help!!
P.S. I did not have background encoding enabled. Never do.

  • IDVD burned discs won't play on any dvd player

When I burn a dvd using Idvd they will not play on standard dvd players.
Is this a problem with anyone else?
I noticed it was a problem in the early 2000-2003 but apparently something got fixed, because I couldn't find an incident where this problem continued to occur.
I am new to the Mac world and I don't always understand the acronymns used when I read responses.  However, here is my problem.
    Burning dvd's using Idvd:
    1.  the burn seems to run and function normally
    2. when I insert the burned dvd into a dvd player one of the following things occur:
         a) loading takes a very long time, then I get a message saying "wrong disc"
          b) loading occurs fast, reads the file as a dvd, the dvd begins playing the music and showing the main menu screen, after accessing a menu option the dvd begins to play the slideshow with the music then after a minute or two, it freezes, and is no longer readable when attempting to reload it, the message is "wrong disc"
    3.  I've tried using dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd+r dual layer, and changing the burn speed to 8x, then to 4x and then to 2x.  Nothing seems to matter.
    4.  I have noticed that in Idvd the dvd type is for an older version of dvd's such as single layer 4.2 gb and double layer 7.7 gb. I'm wondering whether the Idvd software on my MacMini is up to date, even though when I check for updates under the apple it comes back saying my system is up to date.
    I'm using a MacMini running Mac OSX v 10.6.8 with processor 2.26ghz, Intel core 2 duo, memory 2gb 1067 mhz ddr3, and my dvd drive is a pioneer dvd-rw dvrts08, firmware q81f.
I really need help to fix the problem with the IDVD software or to know that I need to purchase another DVD maker software for my Mac.  The product below says my Mac is running OS X v 10.7.2 but it isn't it is running v 10.6.8 as I stated.
    URGENT!!!!

My macmini is under 2 years old.  I reviewed your list of affects and I am going down the list to determine possible cause and effect.
I did try the PRAM process.  The DVD still won't play on my DVD player but it did play on my son's Sony blue ray.  I burned it at 2x burn rate after the PRAM process completed.
I can assume that's progress.  The audio did however skip a couple of times while playing.  That is new.
I will continue down the list using different type of blank dvd's etc.
Question: As I was reading through some other issues I'm learning that Mac/Apple is discontinuing IDVD, is that correct?
Are you aware of some other software to purchase that will create dvd's on the mac?  If so, I may as well go that route rather than wasting more time using a defunct product.  What is your opinion?

  • IDVD burning poorly? Help please

    Hi,
Not sure why when i burn on iDVD the quality is freaking poor i'm burning on the best quailty (as per IDVD) so im not sure if it's iMOVIE that's transfering poorly or it's iDVD burning poorly.
I want that the DVD transfer from iMOVIE to come out the same as it is in iMOVIE.
Let me know what i can do,
    -Joey

    Hi Sue,
No it's just regular DV format to DVD... no photos or anything.
However in iDVD I did use a few photos for my menu screen before playing the actual dvd content... here's a screenshot as you can see it looks pretty clear however when i click on preference, under the PROJECT tab, I highlighted BEST QUALITY and it doesn't come close to the screenshot... why is that?
Is there a way I can make sure it burned very good? I know with Compressor (Final Cut Pro) you can save it as .M2V or .M4V and then burn it in toast along with the .aif file.
    Here's my screenshot: http://i21.tinypic.com/24yzdye.png
I hope someone can help me out
    Thanks again,
    -Joey

  • Many File Types dragged to iDVD, burned to DVD, won't play on DVD player

I have made a recording on Camtasia (video, pictures and audio). My goal is to make it into a DVD that plays on standard players. Any format I have saved the file to is not working.
Here's what I have done so far:
From Camtasia I have selected Advanced Export and saved it as a MPEG4. Then learned that MPEG are not recognized by many DVD players.
Then I did an Advanced Export and saved the file as Quick Time. Moved it into iDVD, burned the disk and again the disk won't play on either of my DVD players.
I have done another Advance Export and saved the file as an AVI but now only the first 3 minutes of a 30 minute video are being captured.
I know everyone can appreciate that each of these burn processes take a lot of time. I am doing them only to be disappointed (aggravated) that they won't playing on my DVD players (I have tried two). I am using Verbatim DVD +R.
If someone uses Camtasia and iDVD that would be ideal. But at this point, I'd also be willing to try another program just to get the job done.

    Hi Vicadea
Welcome to apple discussions. I've never tried Camtasia for Mac. Apparently it's not working very well for you even when you export as a QuickTime movie. I don't know what to say other than it seems like fairly pricey screen capture software ($299) just to have it not work as you expected on multiple attempts.
For much less money and much more reliable results I'd recommend the following for screen capture instead:
    http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
Hope this helps but if not just come on back. Good luck.

  • IDVD burn has unwanted movies embedded on the DVD

In iMovie, I created 4 separate projects, each 30 minutes of a vacation I took. I separated into parts 1, 2, 3 and 4.  I shred each iMovie project in the media browser and am creating a new iDVD project for each one.   Each 30 minute movie is to be a on a separate DVD. I burned part 1 and for some reason 2 of my other movie clips are showing up on the DVD as well. They don't have a button on the menu, but they are there on the DVD.  I don't know why this would be happening since all are separate iMovie projects and separate DVD projects.  The only thing I can think of is when I created the 2nd iDVD project I did "Save As" and I then deleted the button from the 1st one. So maybe the other movie was still embedded in that iDVD project even if there is no button?
Any insight would be very helpful...
    thanks!

    Hi
Yes this sounds as the - iDVD BUG -
By making an iDVD project then go back to the editor e.g. iMovie - then back to iDVD this BUG will ignite and lot's of things goes wrong.
Else - it can be so that when You deleted Movie 1 button You did forget to Erase iDVD Assets too. Has to be done or If You make a brand new iDVD project for Movie 2 then You need not to.
In all cases - easiest and most fault proof way is to make a brand new iDVD project for each Movie / Set of Movies (and never go back to editor).

  • IDVD burn plays poorly in home DVD player

Help! I have several iDVD burns that play poorly in my home DVD player, a Sony SLV-D300P. So we went out and bought another DVD player, the Samsung DVD-V5500 and the same is true! The audio cuts out, the picture pixalizes and then it all together freezes. In several Mac computer DVD players the iDVD burns play perfectly.
Thank you in advance for helping me with this one.

You definitely have a burn quality issue.
Be sure you have the latest drivers for you dvd burner. That was the fix back in the early dual G5 days, and may still apply.
Of course, you can make sure that you have a DVD that works, and that may not be the ones at Apple, but surprisingly, another brand. I think many people like TDK.
A final "workaround" might be to simply burn your disks more slowly (at 4x instead of higher speeds)... The burn time is usually the least of the amount of time that a project consumes, so I wouldn't worry too much.
As a test, take the encoded file that was burned to your dvd, and burn it onto another dvd in another machine. That will test your current system, as you may have a bad dvd burner, bad dvd's, need drivers, or..??
    Good luck.

  • IDVD burning one project on multiple macs? where are project contents?

How do I burn one project on multiple macs? I have a idvd project I created in keynote, added music to it in Garageband, exported to quicktime, and now is in iDVD burning just fine. However I have tons of these dvd's to make, I would like to put all my mac's to work.
last night i tried to share the file, and it is just an alias when i drag it over from the macbook it was created on to my imac. the file says it is in use and locked, since the macbook that created it is burning it. If I wanted to brun on the imac, I had to wait until the macbook was done.
is there a way around this? What if I copied all files I used to make the idvd project to my imac or any computer i wanted to burn on? woudl it hen allow two macs to be burning the same project?
I figured I could do this just like on my PC, drag the file over and voila...no such luck, its like if i had dragged a shortcut over to another pc...if the first one is using the file, its locked. Basically how do i get to the actual contents of the project, so I can also bring them over and hopefully it will allow me to burn on multiple macs at the same time?
my next solution if that didn't work was to start copying dvd's using popcorn on the other macs while the macbook continues burning through idvd.
Any opinions on how i can duplicate a dvd fast...need alot of copies!

Also as to where the files are.
I-DVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as
having a server networked into your computer.)

  • TS2180 DVDs won't play in regular DVD players iDVD burns with no errors the DVDs always get out into a folder ???

Dear Apple friends The iDVD burns DVDs with-out any error messages but DVDs dont play in regular DVD players I notice that the DVD burns to a folder and there is no setting to prevent this How do you burn the DVD with-out it getting put into a folder ??? Thanks Mike

That often is a result of using inferior DVD disks and burning at too high a speed.  What brand and type of disk did you use and what speed did you burn at?
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Will iDVD burn a dvd with surround sound?

I have a quicktime movie with surround sound I'd like to burn to a DVD. Will iDVD burn this and keep the surround intact?
If not, will the latest Toast do this?
If not, are there any other OSX apps that will burn a dvd with surround, preferably a cheap one? I know DVDSP will do it, but that's overkill for burning one disc.
Power Mac G5 quad 2.5 and Mini duo 1.66   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hey don't get me wrong, dolby digital surround is way
better than ProLogic, but give the dudes credit that
came up with ProLogic in the pre-dolby digital days
some credit, it is "true" surround.
Sure, it is surround, but it's not the same as having four separate channels. There are limitations to what you can encode, and you can end up with unintended issues on both stereo and surround material. It was a cool invention that was a big improvement on stereo, but it just isn't the same as actually having the channels. It just isn't "four true distinct signals" - it simply can't reproduce everything four true distinct signals can.
I should have said I need actual discrete channels.

  • IDVD Burn

OK so I've imported my .mov (created in FCE) into iDVD. I create my menus, chapters... I burn the first disk. All's well. Prompt: burn another or done?, burn one more for friends.. I'm done, save project? yes, project saved. BIG QUESTION?? Now why when I want to burn another copy later, does iDVD have to go through the complte process and re-create all my menus and chapters? I know if I burn a second copy before I close iDVD it's a quick burn of all the menus and chapters,it takes minutes! What gives..?

Yes, iDVD will have to re-encode the media used within your project when you burn the project again.
If you burn a few DVD disks while the project is still open, they burn faster because the data is already encoded. An iDVD project does not contain the media used within it. It just creates 'pointers' to the actual media, and pulls it in just for the burn/encoding session. When you close that session, the data is not retained in the project.
If you suspect that you will want to burn more disks in the future, you should do a 'Save as disc image' from within each of your iDVD projects. That looks like the burn process, and takes just as long for the encoding, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned DVD disk. The disk image file is self-contained; that is, it has all the media used within the project encoded into it. Now, you can just use the disk image file to burn that project to DVD disk in the future. You can even delete the original iDVD project, and all the movies/photos/music files used in the project and STILL burn a DVD of that project, using Disk Utility (or Toast, if you have/use that).
Please post back if you have further questions about the above.
