IDVD Burns Once, But Not Again

I think I might be adding to the whole "iDVD not burning in the last minutes after hours of waiting" theme. The trouble the last couple of days I have been having is I get the first disk to burn and everything looks good. When it asks if i want to burn a second one, I say yes and put in another DVD (Sony). Then it starts to burn and just before the end (a minute or so away) and the whole thing freezes. It ejects the disc unburned. So I am totally stumped. It has done this twice now. I will look for a cleaner, but is there another issue? Thanks everyone. - Carlyle

Can you save your iDVD project as a disk image file?
From within your iDVD project, go to File->Save as Disk Image
This process looks like the burning and will take just as long for the encoding, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned DVD disk. There are several advantages to saving your iDVD projects as disk image files.
It is more efficient and less stress on iDVD to burn your DVD disks from a disk image file.
You can save a disk image file and safely delete your iDVD project and all the media used in it since it is all encoded into the disk image file. This can save you drive space because usually a disk image file takes up less space than the project.
A disk image file can be transferred to an external drive or another computer.
It is a great backup for your project.
Many people have saved only the iDVD project and deleted the iMovie used in it and have been bitterly disappointed to discover that the iDVD project is useless without its media files available. An iDVD project should be thought of as a container with references to its media that iDVD pulls into the project just for the burn, but does not keep them there. The movies, photos and audio files remain where they are. If you move, change, rename or delete these, iDVD will not be able to locate them.
To create a disk image file:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6733.html
If the file is successfully created, you can test that it is ok by clicking on the file to mount it (you don't have to do anything with the files you see) then opening DVD Player (in Applications). The project should begin playing. If the project plays correctly, then you can burn your DVD disks from it using Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) following this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2087?viewlocale=en_US
If you are not able to create a disk image file that works, but you do already have a burned DVD-R disk that works, you can use it to create a disk image file and then use that file to burn more DVDs. See this for help with doing that:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2059?viewlocale=en_US
Other suggestions.....
Be sure you have enough free space for the burn. At least 20GB is recommended, but more is better
Use a recommended brand of DVD disk. Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden are the most recommended here. I use Verbatim DVD-R and have never had a burn issue with them. I have occasionally use Sonys and they seem ok, too.
Burn the DVD disks at a slow speed to get a more consistent burn...usually 4x or less.
Post back if you have more questions.

When I return to the panel containing the link, the link no longer functions. So basically, it will work once, but not twice.

  • SF300-24 DHCP Server not responding (worked once but not again)

Tried to get the new firmware DHCP Server option working but after turning it off and back on it doesn't seem to give any addresses anymore.
Anyone else having troubles or success actually using the SF300 v1.4 DHCP Server?
I even tried factory default reset but no luck.
When I did have it working everything was good but the older Cisco Meraki would not get an IP address so I had to revert to an older DHCP server.  When I tried again today by turning the older server off and the SF300 back on, none of the Windows machines that previously would work would get an address.

  • Itunes 10.5: It starts once, but not twice....

    Hi there everybody,
I have a question, I have myself a new gaming pc, everything works, software, hardware, no problem at all.Itunes also worked perfectly, I use itunes, because I have an i Phone and, well, I just need Itunes to sync everything.
Now a few days back, my Itunes started acting up, all of a sudden it kept asking me for my password because it needed authorization for automatic downloads. Also, Itunes would boot only 1 time, not more, whenever I closed it up and needed it to boot up again, it wouldn't. After a reinstallation, I kept having these problems, so I deleted Itunes again, and deleted every Apple related directory from my pc, even within the hidden directories. I knew that this would maybe help, cause alot of programs these days don't delete everything, even if you tell them to;) It sort off helped, I don't have the problem with the password asking anymore, but still Itunes only boots once a  "pc startup".
    The Symptoms:
Itunes boots once, but not for a second time.
Itunes.exe and ItunesHelper.exe do show in the processes tab of the task manager.
Whenever I close these processes and I try to start Itunes, Itunes freezes on my screen as a square gray space.
Can someone please help me, cause, as sad as it sounds, I am really annoyed by having a brandnew pc, having everything work perfectlly, better than ever, and still have 1 program that doesn't work properly...Itunes.
If you need any more detail, just ask me:)
    Thanks everyone!

Seems like I found myself a solution with the help of some random thread I found (thank god), seems that APSdeamon, also known as ApplePush, seems to cause the prblem here. Terminate the process in the process tab, and everything works out fine again. Maybe a bit drastic, but you could also delete the .exe file and never have the problem again.

  • Can burn CDs but not DVDs

My CD/DVD drive worked fine until 3 weeks ago.  I tried to burn home movies to DVD using Nero and it stopped burning.  I restored my computer to factory condition and reinstalled Nero.  No help.  I bought a newer version of Nero and switched from Sony DVDs to Verbatim.  No help.  Then I discovered that I can send files to my Drive E: and burn CDs but not DVDs.
I downloaded all the Microsoft updates.  I have recovery discs but that is a lot of work all over again when I'm not even sure it will help.  I have 2 external drives where I keep my files and backup but I would still need to setup email and reinstall my programs.
I was about ready to buy a new drive for the computer when I saw on the internet that other people have this problem too.  I would really rather get the drive I have working.

    Hi,
Sounds like hardware problem, not software. Please clean the lens first, please try:

  • IDVD burned disk does not start at main menu

The IDVD burned disk starts randomly in the middle of the disk. Cannot access the main menu. I started with an IMovie with chapter headings, videos and pictures. Then shared it with IDVD, created themes, music, changed the headers, etc. Burned the disk using the File Burn DVD command. The disk takes over 1 1/2 hours (IMovie orginal is 15 minutes) to burn.

Hello to all of you first-timers here!
    Welcome to the discussions.
First, are you using iMovie 9?
Did you set chapter markers in iMovie? Did you follow the Chaper Marker Rules?
RULES: No marker at the beginning of your movie, no markers within 2 seconds of the beginning or end of the movie, and no markers on or within 2 seconds of your movie.
Next, did you put your movie in iDVD and then go make any changes to it? Sometimes that causes the chapters to default to the same spot in the movie. The only solution is to recreate the iDVD project.
You should first try deleting iDVD's preference file. You can find this by closing iDVD, going to your Home file (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new one when you relaunch it.
    Reopen iDVD.
Try creating the disk image file again or burning a disk again.
If that results in the same problem, create a new iDVD project. Then, drag in the iMovie project from the Media/Movies pane in iDVD instead of sharing it from iDVD.
Post back if that does not resolve the issue.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPhone (3G), restored with another pc and worked once but not anymore, help please

    - I changed a new case, battery and a headphone jack, after that iTunes didn't really wanna recognize my iPhone
    - I've had the same problem earlier too, before ^that
    - I have the latest version of iTunes
    - I've tried to remove all USBs and reconnect iPhone many times, and rebooted both PC and phone
    - I had the error 1611 while trying to restore on my PC -> I tried on another computer, worked
    - my PC's iTunes recognized my iPhone once after restoring but not anymore
This is really annoying, I would be so thankful if you can help me.

+ I have reinstalled my iTunes.

  • IDVD burns disc but they will not play back on same computer

Prior to this latest update of iDVD, I had ZERO problems with burned iDVDs. Now I can create and burn a disc in iDVD 6.0.3 but my computer refuses to recognize it as a playable disc. I put it in the drive and it spins and spins and after around 10 mins a screen pops up and says that it is a blank. But when I play it on a standard DVD player, it works fine. I recently updated Quicktime to the latest version. Something is wrong. Ah, for the days when you could call Apple about anything and they had the highest rated tech support in the world, now it can be really tough to get an answer. Can anyone give me some thoughts? Thanks, Reed

I have the same problem. iDVD disks that I burn on my G5 will play on G4's, my PC, and all consumer DVD players that I have tried them in. But they will not play on my G5 that created them, and they never have. The disk just spins for a few seconds and then ejects. It never gets recognized and never mounts. There is no error message. I regularly distribute my DVD's to 20+ people, and the disks play on all of their players, though I don't know if anyone tried to play one of my DVD's in a G5.
I use DVD-R disks, and have tried burning at slower speeds (4x)from a disk image using Disk Utility, but the disk still won't play on my G5. On the other hand, my G5 will play iDVD disks that I have burned on a G4, and it will play commercial DVD disks.
I have seen posts from other users who have complained about this problem. I have never seen a fix or a suggested solution that worked. It would be great if you have seen something on this, or have some suggestions, that might lead to a resolution. Otherwise, I can live with it.

  • IDVD Burns disc but nothing on screen!

I've just burnt a DVD on iDVD from an iMovie project, about 2min 30sec, it went through the whole process and ejected the disc towards the end of the 'clean up' part.  Strangely, after ejecting the DVD I had to force quit iDVD as it didn't stop working.
I can see the disc has been burnt but when I try and play the disc, I get a black screen. I've tried it on my Mac and on a DVD player, the DVD player doesn't display the menu, nor does the Mac, just black.
I've used this process before some time ago and it worked fine.
    What's the problem??

    • What material (Codec) was used in iDVD Don't know where to find this info
Open video sequens with QuickTime-Player then open Inspector [cmd+I] and read
    Video formatted/Codec: nnnnnnnnn
    what does it say ?
    • How - step by step - did You do it with iDVD  I made the movie in IMovie HD (1080i 25) then selected 'Share' and selected iDVD which launched iDVD
I do in iMovie'08 to 11 - Share to Media Browser - and as LARGE (Not HD or other resolution) - as this gives a much better result than "Share to iDVD" (all versions of iMovie)
Theme used  'Portfolio Colour' - Should work
Encoding method selected  None, default -
I always use - Pro Quality for material > 45 minutes and Best Performances if movie and menu adds up to less.
frame rate (PAL or NTSC)  PAL 25 fps - OK
    other material used
    • Brand of DVD used  Verbatim - me too
    • Type of DVD used DVD +R - I use DVD-R as they also play on older DVD-players
    • Burn Speed - set down or not  Whatever the Default is - I set it down to x2 or x4 - as this gives a better result (plays on more players as PCs etc)
And a VERY GOOD suggestion (given by many here) - is to use "Save as a DiskImage" and test this with DVD-tool prior to actual burn to DVD. As this can isolate where the problem occurs.

  • IDVD burned disc will not run on Windows Media Player

I've just started using iDVD for my portfolio of images that I want to leave with employers at interviews. I thought iDVD would be great. I just burned a sample disc and it played fine on my mac (photos are a little fuzzy) but when I play the DVD on Windows it just says that it's an "unknown DVD."
HELP. I want to make a DVD of slideshows that can be played on any computer or DVD player. How can I do this?

    Thanks Sue-
I'm still new to finding ways to be Mac and Windows compatible. (I've been using Mac since the Apple IIc came out in the late '80's and have only been using Windows for a few years at the office.) I have Parallels running on my Mac Book Pro which has a Superdrive. I would think that the Windows side in Parallels would be able to access the Superdrive as a DVD. Maybe not. I should look into this. Meanwhile I will look over the link that you suggested, as I only have about 60 slides to onto a disc. Maybe a CD would work.

  • Can burn DVD but not CD

I don't have any problem burning DVD's using iDVD, but I can't burn a CD using iTunes. It goes through the whole process, checking media, initalizing, burning, etc. then iTunes plays that little doo doo doo sound saying it's done, but then I hear a sound from the burning devise, like an err err err. I can't eject the disc unless I force quit iTunes. When I look at the disc I can see a burned area, so I put it back in the Mac and it says the disc is blank, so I put it in my Pioneer stereo player to get a second opinion and it says the disc is blank too.
I'm trying to figure out if this is a software or a hardware problem.
Or is it possible the blank CDs I have are bad? (CD-R 74 min 650 mb) I've tried changing the settings in iTunes preferences but it still doesn't work and I've thrown away 7 CDs so far.
I have a PowerMac G5 with OSX 10.4.4, Sony DVD RW DW-Q28A burner and iTunes 6.0.2
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

It varies by the drive model, not by the OS. So there's no brand that works better with Mac OS X, per se, but rather your current brand may not work well in your iMac's drive where another brand might work better. I've had good luck with Maxell and bad luck with Memorex, but that might not be the case with the drive in your iMac. Try a disk or two of some other brand and see if that works better.
If another brand doesn't work better, try just a Finder burn to see if the problem is with burning through iTunes or burning in general. If the Finder burn also fails, then the iMac's drive might be dirty (try a lens cleaning disk) or defective.
    Good luck.

  • Subtitles suddenly displaying by default on burned DVD but not in simulator

Hello, subtitles which normally did not display until they were selected 'on' from a menu choice in the DVD are suddenly automatically being displayed by default when played on a stand alone DVD player for a television.
The subtitles however do not show up by default in the DVD Studio Pro simulator nor when I play from a 'build' folder using the Mac DVD player. Also, burned DVD's do not display the subtitles by default on two of my Macintosh systems when played with DVD Player (Macbook Pro and Powerbook G4 both running Leopard) yet the subtitles do display by default on a stand alone DVD player.
I have 'force display' off on the subtitle track (applied to whole subtitle stream).
I created brand new builds and can't figure out why this is suddenly occurring. I opened up very old projects and rebuilt them and they exhibit the same problems.
Anyone with any ideas? I recently upgraded from 10.4.11 to Leopard - is it possible that that would have caused the problem. Thank you.

I have not changed any settings on my set top Panasonic DVD player. The set top box can display subtitles but typically only does so when I choose it from a menu. This just started happening 2 days ago.
The same is occurring on another person's stand alone DVD player so I am fairly certain something is going on with the DVD build. The only major change I did recently was upgrade to Leopard and install the Apple software updates. There doesn't seem to be a preference or setting to display all subtitles in DVD Studio Pro - I am at a loss why this is doing this even with older projects that have worked perfectly and not been modified (just rebuilt and burned).

  • IDVD burns disc, but blurry motion

    Hi,
I have an 80-minute final cut pro movie that has chapter markers. I exported it as a self-contained quicktime movie (125GB) and imported it into iDVD. Since it was so large I burned it on a DVD+R Dual Layer and encoded it as "Best Performance".
Everything looked great in preview mode, but the final burned DVD has really bad digitizing/blurring whenever there is any motion on screen or camera movement.
I really could use any help!!!
    Thank you in advance!
    -Laura

There is no sure fire way to get rid of motion blur completely when shooting under 30 frames per second / 29.97. But you can reduce its effects by following seven simple rules:
    1. Use high quality encoding (depending on run time). This doesn't mean setting it at best quality but rather at Best Performance or Pro settings when appropriate and called for.
    2. Keep video playback under 60 mins. whenever possible. ( And remember that slideshows, added audio, motion menus, etc. use up space on the media itself and hence reduce available playback at its highest quality).
    3. Use video footage with little or no camera movement in terms of panning or fast moving objects.
    4. Make a disc image to the desktop and test the image with apple's dvd player app prior to burning the movie to DVD-R.
    5. Lower the burn speed to 4x or lower.
    6. When you exceed 60 mins. of QT playback (and up to 120 mins max) use Dual Layer media instead of single layer.
    7. Use Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R.

  • BD-203 available to burn DVD but not BDR

    Greetings all...
I am working on a project that is going out in DVD and BD and have come across an slight problem.  I am using Encore CS4 and I have a regular Pioneer DVD-R drive and the BD 203 drive which shows up as the default.  (Win XP 4 GB RAM)  When I go to burn a DVD-R Encore defaults to the BD drive and burns just great, but as soon as I switch to a BD project the burn panel says that there are no drives available.  I have rebooted, come back a later day, barked at the moon and did the wiggly dance to help.  I am able to burn to the drive with the software that came with the drive, so for the time being I am making an .iso and then burning it later, just wondering what is going on really...
It has worked in the past, and I don't know what could have changed it.  Wondering if anyone has any ideas...

It has worked in the past, and I don't know what could have changed it.  Wondering if anyone has any ideas...
Does this burner require a driver? Is it up to date? Things like simple OS updates can render many drivers obsolete. Is the burner's firmware up to date?
and did the wiggly dance to help
I've found that often doing the "wiggly dance" BEFORE the barking at the Moon, sometimes does the trick...
Going back to the serious part, if there is no driver, and the firmware IS up to date, I'd go into System>Hardware>Device Manager, and remove the BD burner, then reboot and let Windows find and install it again. This has cleared up some similar issues for others.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
