IDVD burns wrong music but iDVD preview plays correct music

I'm creating my second DVD-based slide show by exporting the slide show from iPhoto to iDVD. (Am using iDVD version 5.0.1.)
When I preview in iDVD the correct music from my iTunes plays. After I use iDVD to burn a DVD image and then try to test that via the DVDPlayer, the music from my first iDVD-created slide show plays instead. (I've also burned an image to DVD and played on a hardware DVD player with same problem resulting.)
Of course I have no idea how iDVD is getting so confused on this matter.
Is this a known bug? Does anybody know what is happening here?

For what it is worth, I am having a similar problem and have spent coutless hours to resolve. No Solution Yet. When formaing a Playlist from iTunes everything plays as it should. When the playlist is selected for a iPhoto slideshow, music plays as it should.
When exporting or going to iDVD as a slideshow, Theme music can be selected and it plays correctly. Audio is selected in the custom slide window for the playlist. The goal is to have music play during an entire iDVD slide show. I have never been able to have more that the first iTune on the playlist play music. I have contacted Apple many times on this issue and no one can solve it. Looping makes no difference, re-installing all of the iLite software does not help, nor anything else. I even installed Roxio to see if exporting iPhoto with a playlist would make it ok and it does not. Roxio is removed.
The only way I know, so far, to make this all work is to select a iTune that will last through the entire iDVD. I believe that there is a serious bug here as no one at Apple has a answer either (after numerous calls) so the problem is still there.
Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

  • Idvd burns to disk but won't play on computer

I'm a photographer and am trying to make a basic slideshow for a client. I've burned the disc and it will play on my tv but when I try to play it on the computer it only shows two folders (audio and visual) with a bunch of files inside.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi SJS
Does it look like this on your computer?
If so, use apple's DVD Player (in your applications folder) to open the Video_TS folder like this:

  • Loop auditions correctly but doesn't play correctly in Logic project

I've found this particular loop, "Euro Move Synth 3" play correctly when I audition it but as soon as i drag it over into a project, the file will not play as auditioned. I've tried deleting the loop and reinstalling and creating new projects. Using totally default settings. Can anyone confirm the same problem and/or help?
    Thanks

    Hello,
don't forget that Apple Loops adapt to the speed and key of your project. Maybe you have prelistened the loop in it's original speed and key and said "cool!", and now in your project (other tempo, lower or higher key) it sounds "....".
Another possibility is that you had selected a Midi Loop which is dependend on the software instruments. Maybe you have inserted only the midi data of the loop into an existing software instrument track. In this case, the loops are played back with the wrong sound.
Instead, insert the loop below the existing tracks into the arrangment window. It automatically creates a new track with the right software instrument settings.

  • WHY have my iDVDs stopped playing correctly?

I would appreciate any help very much.
I have used the same Mac, media, and DVD player for at least a year. When I make a DVD, I check it on a PS3 and a DVD player seperately to ensure they work. I'm a wedding photographer, and provide simple video slideshows on a DVD to my clients.
I burn a DVD from iDVD exactly as I have done countless times, and when its put in the DVD player it "squishes" the image on the menu and video and doubles text over itself in the menu, and there is a green line running down the right side of the screen. Plays fine on the DVD player.
    -NTSC
    -Professional Quality burn
-Slidshow is created in iPhoto from a book and exporting directly >iPhoto>Share>Export to iDVD
-Have all software updates in place
    -Have restarted program and computer
-Have changed aspect ratio from wide to normal with no effect.
    -Media is the same
PLEASE help I'm so frustrated! Thanks!

    Hi
    DVD-burners get's old
If You burn more than three DVDs in a row without pause to let DVD-Laser cool down - they grow older faster or even over-feat and die. My get's 20-30 minutes to cool down.
Free space on Start-Up hard disk - use to give problems - I never go under 25Gb free space when doing SD-Video and 4-5 times more if HD-material is used
Material feed into iDVD - there are more and more codecs coming and iDVD is picky. Some it can back-engineer to a working form - others not. A while ago this was no problem but as Cameras evolves this gives more and more problems. I convert all my material into a few working codecs/file formats as
    • Video - AIC or streamingDV
    • Photos - only as .jpg (Never .bmp)
    • Audio - only .aiff (Never .mp3, .wma etc)
Forced or Panic Halts - introduces small errors (most often into the application pref. file) and builds up a coming disaster. Trashing this from time to time prevent's this and make application run better.
    Just my spontaneous thoughts.

  • Wrong forum, but can't access correct one - need help with Safari

I'm sorry to post this here, but the link to the Safari discussion forum is broken - I've tried it about 10 times!
I've been having trouble with Safari 1.3, which quit every time I navigated to a page using a certain type of code (I don't know what it was, maybe Java or Flash?) Anyway, I downloaded the Safari 3 Universal version in the hope of improving it, but unfortunately that has completely killed off both Safari itself and Mail. I couldn't even use Firefox or Internet Explorer, although other programs such as Word and Photoshop were working fine. Trashing Safari and everything I could find related to it meant that Firefox would work (I'm using that now), but I still can't start Mail. I assume Mail needs Safari to be installled in order to work?
I've tried to download Safari 1 again, but can only find links to download the 1.3 Updater, not the program itself. Of course, the Updater won't install because there's no previous version to load it onto. Can anyone help me with a suggestion as to where I go from here, please? I'd be hugely grateful, I don't mind not having Safari but I do really need to use Mail.
    Thank you!

There are many, many millions of defective, nonstandard web sites, as a brody points out. You could, if you wished, make a crusade of asking their developers to make them accessible in every antique web browser: a crusade for which you would be rewarded with a brody's undying admiration, most of those incompetent website developers' annoyance, and nothing else.
If instead you would rather just visit the sites and see what you can see of them, use Camino or Opera — the only up-to-date browsers that will run in OS X 10.3.9. Mozilla FireFox 2.0.20 will indeed run in your OS version, but it "is no longer supported and contains known security vulnerabilities" according to the Mozilla website. The more recent updates of FireFox (3.0 through 3.0.10) require OS X 10.4 or better.

  • Embedded Quicktime not playing correctly in InDesign PDF - please help!!

ok - I have an issue that I can't work out and I'm hoping someone can help - tried searching for an answer to no avail. I've just built my first interactive PDF portfolio in InDesign. I should point out that I'm a producer/editor, so my knowledge of InDesign & Acrobat is not extensive. The PDF includes some embedded Quicktime movies. The movies play normally on one of my monitors (Samsung 1680x1050), but will not play correctly on my other two monitors (2x Samsung 1280x1024) - the audio plays and the play controller appears to be working but the video area is just all white...HOWEVER...if I open the PDF and play just one of the videos on my 1680x1050 monitor first, then all videos play correctly on all monitors. Have tried opening the PDF on another desktop and the movies do not work (in the same manner as above)- also tried on my laptop and the movies play correctly. Please help if you can - I need to get this out to clients and I'm baffled!! Thank You!

  • IDVD project plays perfectly in preview but when burned NO AUDIO.....

The iDVD (v 6.0.2 )project plays all video and menus/buttons perfectly in preview but when burned to NO AUDIO except on menus, none in the AUDIO TS folder, none on main video which has 11 chapters exported from FCP 5.0.4 as QT w/chapters.
Also the burned DVD has scrambled the links from the Scene selection menu to the correct video chapter.
I've checked all the media for 16 bit, etc.
WHY does it play fine on the simulator but screw up so badly when burned to disk.

I had the same problem with my music not playing once I burned my iDVD's.
What I figured out, was that whenever I download music from iTunes, and try to use the music within my iDVD program, there's a little lock that appears in the iTunes file of the song I'm using. No one knows why...I spent hours on the phone with Apple trying to figure it out. So, the file is locked, and will play on my computer when I view my show, but will not play once burned, and I try to play it on the TV.
So, my work around is that every single song I purchase from iTunes...I have to burn onto a CD, and then burn back into my iTunes. That creates an unlocked file, and I am now able to use it.
I don't know if this is the same problem you are having...but it's a huge headache as I create these iDVD's a LOT for my business.
It basically stinks, and there's no fix - according to Apple...

  • I can watch my custom DVD in iDVD 7 preview but burnt dvd plays back black with only the audio

I can watch my custom created DVD in iDVD 7 preview but once the disc is burnt and I play it back in DVD Player, the screen is black with only the audio playing back. I have tried using three different blank DVD manufactures.

    Hi
Most probably depends on what movie codec You feed iDVD. May be You find any clue here.
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show

  • Audio breaks up in iDVD preview/will not encode in burn

One of the folks in the iDVD group suggested I try here....This is the first iDVD5 project I'm trying to burn (of the first movie I've done in iMovieHD). All is well until I preview in iDVD then the audio/music track make a similar sort of broken up sound to what you would get if playing a CD on a portable player with your battery about to die. I used 2 songs - one purchased from iTunes store, one taken from a purchased CD. Both songs are a mess. Thought the problem might be in previewing iDVD project so went ahead and tried to burn a DVD. It couldn't encode the audio. Could the iTunes song be the culprit? Has anyone else experienced this broken audio and were you able to fix it? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I had similar experiences and discovered a couple things. They may sound crazy, but they worked for me:
Which of the two timelines are you using for your audio tracks in iMovie? I once used the bottom one only, and had errors with audio encoding every time. I moved the songs to the upper audio timeline and voila! It encoded and burned perfectly. Go figure!
I also fiddled around with "Best Quality" and "Best Performance" in iDVD. When I select "Best Quality" with a short movie, I get audio encoding errors every time. If I select "Best Performance" it encodes and burns perfect.
I'm not sure why either of these two things should matter, but for me they cause audio breakup in iDVD preview and then audio encoding errors...even though they play fine in iMovie and even exporting to QT as you also have...maybe one of these is causing your problem as well. Good luck!

  • Interlacing problems with iDVD Preview and burning - comb effect appalling.

When using iDVD to burn content onto DVDs, I suffer from "comb effect" interlacing related problems both in the iDVD Preview and with the final product played on a computer. I have yet to play the disc in a "real" DVD player.
I am editing HDV (60i) footage with FCE 4, exporting (both interlaced and de-interlaced - same problem) to 1920x1080 HD at a Quicktime movie, and then importing the clips to iDVD.
The clips are short (under 10 minutes) and play back perfectly on Quicktime.
Once imported to iDVD, the iDVD Preview displays (especially with motion scenes) four areas of horizontal jagged edge areas, which are spectacularly distracting.
    Here is an example:
    http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u4/praxisuniversal/InterlacingProblem.jpg
I have tried various settings using iDVD, but have not been met with success. In other, similar discussions, people have had luck with other software programs, but I am reluctant to spend great gobs of money if the Apple Discussion Brain Trust can find a way to circumvent.
    Thanks!

  • Avi movies don't play in iDVD preview

    Hi,
I have a problem with avi files playing in iDVD preview. I am using an iMac 2.16 OS 10.5 I created a new project in iDVD '08 and placed a avi movie in my project. When I press play to preview it woun't play. At work I have a mac pro OS 10.4 and I am using the same avi movies in iDVD '08 when I press play the movie does play. I burned it to a DVD and it played on my DVD player with no problems. Does anyone know why I'm having problems when I work from my iMac at home?

+But why would they work on one computer and not the other.+
    Same OS on both?
AVIs can contain all sorts of stuff...

A few months ago, I purchased a new iMac. I recently created a movie using iMovie. Then I found out that iDVD is not included. So I have the problem that I want to burn a movie that I can play on my DVD player and watch on a television. I rang Applecare and was told that I need a program called BURN.
Is this correct? I can export the movie from iMovie in a m4v format, but I think I need to convert this to iso format before I can burn the disc.
I know there are programs like TOAST that will do this, but it is expensive.
I would be very grateful for any assistance.

Burn will not do what you want, and there is no real substutute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple.
Also, you can complain bitterly via Apple’s Feedback link, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means. You may feel that Apple should not dictate how you destribute family videos or photos to distant relatives and friends, and should not assume that every user is prepared to pay for the excessive bandwidth usage charged by ISPs for huge downloads from the App Store:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that came with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or that comes with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their new Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced:  http://www.gizmag.com/windows-8-no-dvd-playback/22443/
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past.
