IDVD-change PAL video to NTSC video format on burning

Hi.
I have families overseas and would like to send them family movie video. But the problem is they have NTSC format or signal system and we have PAL here in Australia. Is it possible for a video made by PAL video camera burn as NTSC to dvd using iDVD?
I have just bought my new Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo Leopard. I don't know anything about iDVD and I still have to use and try it.
Can any one help me.
Many thanks.
JVale

Is it possible for a video made by PAL video camera burn as NTSC to dvd using iDVD?
Yes, BUT .......
PAL and NYSC video have different frame rates and image sizes. Quicktime, as used by iDVD can make the conversion, but the results probably won't be great quality.
Make sure you have iDVD's preferences set to NTSC BEFORE you start a new project to send to them.

  • Creating a PAL DVD  from NTSC Video camcorder

Can the latest version of iMovie create a PAL DVD from NTSC Video camcorder? What are best practices and workflow to create a PAL DVD from NTSC sources.

iMovie doesn't create DVDs, iDVD does..
in iM's prefs, set Video to 30fps = NTSC
quit and relaunch to take changes in effect
in iDVD's prefs, set Video to 25fps = PAL
quit and relaunch to take changes in effect
when finished with editing in iM, Share to Mediabrowser
in iDVD, select a theme, grab movies from Mediabrowser
burned DVD will be PAL ..

  • PAL DVD from NTSC video

I am doing a project pro bono for a friend of video I shot for him at his daughter's 4th birthday.  They want to send the DVD to Russia for the grandparents to see.
This is the first PAL DVD I have attempted with Encore CS4 using NTSC footage.  Here is the workflow proposed in hopes to get a properly formatted and viewable DVD.
Open a new PAL Encore project, then using the dynamic link, bring in the NTSC edited video.
The menu I used in the NTSC version of the DVD for the parents used a 4:3 NTSC frame which I saved as a menu and will import to the PAL project to avoid having to create it again (which contatined about 12 buttons for selecting various shots).
There is no PAL menu in Encore so I am wondering if the NTSC menu will be stretched when viewed in PAL.
More imporntantly, I am wondering if the video will be re-sized correctly in the PAL Encore project, since I have no way to test it.
Would very much appreciate input on this effort.
    Thanks!!

You could just send them an NTSC DVD - nearly all PAL DVD players can play NTSC discs.

  • IDVD 6 PAL Video for use in an NTSC Country

    Hi there,
I am putting together a hello video for my girlfriend who lives in Canada. I am from the UK and the content was shot here. I made the movies in iMovie and then setup my DVD in iDVD. My question is this:
The DVD I burned was in PAL format as opposed to NTSC. Will my girlfriend be able to view this DVD using a Canadian bought DVD player? If not, what do I need to do before trying again!
    Many Thanks

welcome alchemist to the  board...
no, PAL in NTSCcountries don't work; NTSC in PALareas do...
you should be able to choose in the settings of a new iDVD project "NTSC/30fps"... your imported PALfootage gets converted into NTSC via the QTengine...
    BUUUUT:
.. I onced had a lot of stuff NTSC>>PAL, I made a short test with QT6pro... and with JES Deinterlacer which is a convetrer too... for my taste, the results with this FREE tool are much better...
    export iM porject as QT/FullQuality
    import that into JESD
    convert
    create iDVD with NEW footage.....
    helpful?

Select the Project in the Browser.  Go to the Info section of the Inspector.  Click the Modify Settings button.  For  Video Properties, change the Format from PAL to NTSC.  Export again, you'll be fine.

  • Changing HD 1440 X 1080 video into NTSC

    Hi,
I took most of my video in HD 1440 X 1080 and am finding it too slow to render. I want to complete my project soon. Is it possible to easily change the 1440 X 1080 video int NTSC so that the project won't take so long?
    Thanks,
    Andy

    what Tom is telling you:
    your source is HDV/29.97fps.
set your FCE project to that format.
if the project or squence is set correctly, no rendering, no hickups..
when the sequence has any other setting, FCE renders everytime you change/edit anything..
why would you downscale to NTSC?.. you lose tons of quality..

  • Merging two versions; one w/PAL Audio one w/NTSC Video

Here's an oddity...for a project was given a 2 hour video file in NTSC w/really bad sound levels. When I asked for it to be given a corrected copy, I got one with PAL video, with bad picture but great sound. Trying to get a third copy (third time is the charm) but for fun trying to see if there is a way to merge the two. First thing I tried was using the PAL Audio under the NTSC video (which of course didn't work, as the audio was longer due to frame rate, I assume). Then tried to change the length of the PAL audio in ProTools, changing it's speed by a small percent so the final length matched the NTSC video (fun experiment, but the synch wasn't at all right). Even tried converting the footage via Nattress, but no such luck.
Curious if there's anything else I should try for experimental learning...

    Hi Phrisbee,
If it is set to 1.5meg than that is fine.
I say downoad as it has to match this when people have a asymetric service like most (A)DSL services are.
IF you don't know what you actually get from your ISP or want to test it there are test sites

  • FCE NTSC video source export to PAL?

I have an NTSC video source in Final Cut Express. How do I export this as a PAL video file? I've looked under the export settings, but I do not see any options there to convert it.

It can't be done during export from FCE. What is the intended use?
If you want to burn a playable DVD, use iDVD and don't worry about NTSC vs PAL. Virtually all PAL DVD players will play an NTSC DVD.
If you must absolutely have a PAL video, use JES Deinterlacer

    How?
Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.
it's the only copy of this video.
Where did you get the video from?
From the pic I noticed that the folder is 841.9mb.  What's inside?  Or what happens when you click on it?

    Thanks OT,
I tried the Export function but it would not allow me to choose the option of exporting to iMovie. I think you are right about needing Quicktime Pro. I opened iMovie and imported the clip from iPhoto and with some searching found the 'cropping, rotation' mechanism. So I now have a copy in the correct orientation. I plan to import/export it back to iPhoto because I want to have a copy on my iPhone to show people and I wanted to have it available as part of a slideshow I am making in iPhoto of my recent overseas trip. It is a pain that there is no simple orientating tool for the movie clips downloaded to iPhoto with the photos from the one camera.

  • PAL with NTSC video

Hello - if I record video using NTSC standard, I can use Premirere to output to PAL standard as well.  What are the drawbacks?  Is the PAL "quality" going to be equivalent?  I know that the frame rate between NTSC and PAL (PAL using more frames, 25p vs 24fp, for example) is different, but how's that going to affect my final product?  Can anyone clarify this?
    Thanks.
    Roberto

If your end product is going to be a dvd for a PAL country leave it in NTSC.
NTSC will play just fine on almost any standalone PAL dvd player.
BTW PAL is better than NTSC.

  • OK, the videoformat may be changed (PAL, NTSC) by plugin a specified cable, but how can  I force to have PAL-format instead of NTSC to be send to iMovie via the USB-cable?

OK, the videoformat may be changed (PAL, NTSC) by plugin a specified cable to be connected the iPhone to the TV, but how can  I force to have PAL-format instead of NTSC to be send to iMovie via the USB-cable? Al this transcoding afterwards takes a lot to much time. Is there a solution before sending the clips?

Well, thanks a lot.  iMovie '11 is similar, but not identical and unfortunately I don't seem to find any "Frame Rate Pop-Up menu" when I generate a new Project. Do not find an "Aspect Ratio Pop-Up" either. Also the help does not speak of this options.  I just have to choose a Theme and that's it. Also the "Settings" Menu for the Film does not help.
I also checked the general settings for iMovie:
So I would dare say, there is actually no possibility anymore, to set the output format. And also when I create the output file, there is nothing more than a short list of resolutions.
I do not understand why all options were taken away. I admit, I am a little disappointed.
    Best regards
    Claudio

  • Convert PAL Video to NTSC

I'm wondering how it is possible to convert PAL Video to NTSC using FCP, DVDSP or other tools. Thanks.

    Hi:
You can do it for free using Compressor standard conversion presets.
    Check this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1015451&tstart=15
It's related to NTSC to PAL, but you can use the same guidelines in the other way.
Besides thatm the posted software is only Windows based:

  • NTSC video into Pal

Have spent a while trying to solve this. Have just upgraded from Express to Pro. I have an edit of one of my Daughters Wedding, which was all Pal. My Brother who came over from Boston, Mass. Did some video in NTSC and there are a couple of bits, not a lot, that I would like to get into my project.
The video plays fine on my Sony HDR-HC1e and connects to the computer MacBook Pro into the back of one of my many hard drives, which always works fine with my video's.
I have tried all the NTSC parts in Easy Setup. Even bought a new lead with 800 FW. so that it will go directly into the computer. But when I go to Capture. The window says "Preview Disabled" but it can be controlled from the screen buttons, so to "Capture Now" the camera starts playing but the screen then flags up "This operation could not be completed as there is no video"
I'm sure that I have been through most things that can be stopping this. But hope that someone can see the problem. Then when I've got this into FCP. I hope that I can convert it to pal as seen in one of the Nattress Teaching video's.
Thank you for reading this and great thanks for any clues that help to sort this.

Thank you Tom and Nick, for your help. At the moment the video from the NTSC reel, Is not looking as bad as I'd feared. It is not an HD project as at the time the video was done on my TRV900e.
Even though I could select it in the pal timeline and select Nest, there were no G standard conversion in the "effect folder" to find G converter V2.0 as I'd seen done on the Nattress Tutorial site. link here http://www.nattress.com/Movies/NTSC%20DV%20to%20PAL.mov I have three pal video camera's a TRV900e and two HDR-HC1e, but do not have access at the moment to an NTSC camera.
When you say Tom, to get my brother to capture it. How would this work and what would be the method for him to get it to me from the US to UK. Also thank you for pointing out that I am now on the FCP forum site.
    Regards
    David Wilson
