Idvd cleaning up...still...

Okay, i burnt a handfull of pictures and video clips on a dvd using idvd, took forever, left the computer on over night so it would finish, woke up in the morning dvd had popped out of the drive, but idvd still running, saying cleaning up, and wont let me quit idvd, restart my computer or turn it off, and when i click quit idvd, nothing happens, wont even bring up force quit idvd, any ideas why this is going on? or suggestions as how to quit idvd??

I have had the same issue for a few weeks now.
The only unusual thing with regard to iDvd which I think may have caused this issue, was that I accidentally stopped a process by hitting the escape key.
I redid the process but ever since then this issue persisted.
Is a reinstallation in order ?

    Hello:
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.

  • I updated to FF 7.0.1 and now neither FF nor the profile manager will open, not even in safe mode. Did reinstall, then clean reinstall, still no help.

FF automatically updated to v7. Since then, it won't open. I've tried opening it with the taskmanager open, and firefox.exe appears under processes for maybe 2 seconds, then disappears. I did a reinstall, then a clean reinstall (after copying my profiles folder to a flash drive). Still no luck. Won't open in safe mode, won't open Profiles Manager. I tried to use my son's FF under his login, and it updated and also refuses to work. This is Windows XP.

Thanks for this mha007 - I can now open FF with a new profile. Can I copy my settings from the old profile or will this bring over the same problem, maybe a corrupt file. If it would bring the same problem, is there any way I can check which file is corrupt, apart from taking them over one by one?

  • HP DV7 4020sa Fan Noise - Cleaned and still making noise

    Hi.
    I need help with my laptop. It's a DV7 4020sa.
Ever since I purchased the laptop (used) the fan has made a horrible whining sound. I decided to fix it today so dissambled the laptop and gave the fan a good clean, and also put some wd40 on the fan spindle.
Unfotunately after reassembling, the fan still makes the noise. It strange because if i pull the screen/lid slightly towards me it stops the noise, and also if I apply pressure on the underside on the base where the fan is located.
Should I buy a new/refurbished fan to replace it or is there some fix i can apply myself?
    Thanks in advance

    You're very welcome.
That is great news, and it was way less than a new one.
    You can't beat that!

  • Firefox will not load my gmail, cleaned history, still will not load. I switched to goggle Chrome and I have no trouble with loading all programs. What is going on?

All of a sudden it will not load my gmail. Restarted my computer, cleaned up history still not working on gmail. recently updated Firefox a few days ago, but I have not had trouble until today with loading gmail. Worked earlier.

The problems are getting worse. I think I will have to give up on Firefox and go with the Google browser. No problems with IE just firefox and I can't take it anymore.

  • IDVD (iLife 9) still has the same anoying bugs

I just got iDVD from iLife 9 and am annoyed to find the much reported bugs of 08 mostly unfixed. It still messes up scene selection menus if you update the video assets and respond to the alert "reencode video assets" - basically one has to start over and reimport the movie. Also it still doesn't properly interpret a 16:9 anamorphic video file unless one first manually updates video attributes using QT7 or similar. Very disappointing!

    Agreed....

  • IDVD quit, but still open!?

    Hi!
I was just burning a third dvd to image and it got to the end of the encoding and was just about to encode the audio when the system message came up "iDVD unexpectantly crashed". I pressed closed, thinking everything would disappear, but instead iDVD is still open with the umbrella spinning. The HD isn't crunching away though. If I look in 'Activity Viewer' it is also open, but says (not responding) which is a little hard to determine when its encoding.
Can I assume its dead and I have to start gain, or will it kick in again?
    Thanks

I have 7.5GBs on the start up
I save the dvdproj to another drive though.
    Rob,
That's NOT enough on your startup drive. OS X needs from 10 to 20 % of your startup kept free just for OS use. iDVD uses your startup drive to store 'work in progress'.
Free up a lot of disk space before trying again.

  • ICal broken, clean install still broken.

hello, spent the last 17 hours in pain trying to get my iCal to work again. I completely nuked and repaved my drive and did a clean leopard install with all the upgrades to bring me back to 10.5.2. When I try and load my previously backed up calendars into this fresh iCal they appear as normal and I can edit them and move things around. As soon as I quit iCal and restart it everything disappears and I'm back to square 1. I have years of data in my calendars that I meticulously strive to save. I back up all the time. This is a major bummer.
I turned off all syncing when I blitzed the OS.
    I'm tired and lost.
    ideas?

    Ferd,
    Thanks again. Sadly same problem.
I went through your steps. I logged out instead of restarting, but other than that I followed it through.
The calendars restore nicely. They look good and everything is there. However, try and change something, move something or add something and it works. That is, until you quit iCal and then it all resets back to exactly how it was.
Yes I did a complete clean install.
At then end of it after reloading all my major software I fired up iCal and basically did the same procedure you wrote. When I had no joy with that. I created another new admin user account. Then fired up Migration Asst. and pointed it at my external firewire drive where the clone of my previous mongrel install of Leopard was living. After doing the migration I had my "old" admin user in addition to my clean install admin user. I deleted the temporary admin user. So now, on this machine, I have a new admin and the old one. iCal works in neither.
I'm clueless too. Plaxo was working fine. I gave up on Spanning Sync after a week of trial. Had hope for BusySync since it seemed to work well with Google. After I started having a serious iCal event duplication problems I stopped using and tried to delete all that "extra" software. To no avail. Still stuck.
Thanks again for all your time and effort.
I got real used to iCal, and am really feeling the pain of not having it. Kind of annoyed.
    peace,
    -j.

  • I downloaded mountain lion onto my old mackbook pro, but would like to wipe it clean for my girlfriend, is there a way to wipe the computer clean, but still be able to keep mountain lion on it even though i already downloaded it?

Hey everyone, I just got the new retina display macbook pro, and here is where the problem lays is with my old macbook pro. I am wanting to give it to my girlfriend, but want to wipe the computer clean so she can have the macbook the way she wants it. I already downloaded mountain lion and was wondering what I need to do in order to keep mountain lion, but wipe everything else? I do not have any of the CDs for the old Macbook pro

    To second baltwo's post:
Your license for Mountain Lion (or any OS version purchased at the app store) is not transferable - you can use it on any Mac you own and control; however, someone else getting that machine means the recipient will need to purchase ML The SLA states that you must erase the drive and reinstall the original OS. You will need to call Apple for replacement install disks.
If you leave ML on the machine, the recipient will never be able to reinstall the OS since the new Apple ID and machine ID no longer match.

  • Verifying disk came clean, but still unable to start up.

So, for the past few weeks I have had the problem of the endless spinning wheel while starting up my macbook pro. I have tried booting it up in safe mode, single-user mode, fsck, everything. So today I got the installation DVDs and I ran the disk utility verification and repair. It came up clean, and so did the Apple Hardware Test. I'm dumbfounded, what should I do?
    Thanks

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC; then, try again. If no go, reinstall the OS.

  • Need to load CC programs to E drive SSD - tried preferences, uninstall & cleaner but still C:

New build Xeon machine : C: = 250 GB SSD for System, E = 750 GB SSD for programs and scratch, 4TB HDD for data. I've tried everything I've seen to get CC installs to go on the E drive, uninstalled and run the cleaner, but cannot get the install to shift.
I have seen plenty of advice that this type of configuration is ideal for video editing and dealing with large numbers of image preview generation, but the C drive is already around 75% full, so I must get CC Apps onto the E drive.
    Can you advise, please ?

  • IDVD create disk image larger than DVD-R capacity

    Here's the background:
    - I made an iMovie 6 in 16:9 NTSC that is 1:32:00:06 long. I put that into iDVD 6, use the 5.0 Theme called "Wedding White", no slideshow, just a few photos and one 128k audio AAC file for menu music. Motion menu right now is about 5min45sec, but I can change that no problem.
    - In iDVD 6's "Project info", left hand column shows "NTSC", "Widescreen (16:9)", "Best Quality", "Single-Layer (SL) - 4.2GB"; all correct.
Right hand column - Project Duration is 97:47min, Motion Menus is 5:46 of 7:30, Tracks 1 of 99, Menus 3 of 99; all green.
"DVD Capacity" was shown as ~3.3GB before the burning.
    Here's the problem:
    - When I first burned directly onto a single-layer DVD-R, an error will come on during burning or multiplexing near the end. Disc will eject, and the disc IS PLAYABLE on all DVD players. Only problem is that the movie will end (or says "Disc scratched or dirty", then crashes DVD Player on my Mac) at around 1:30:50; about 1min 11sec short. iDVD will also hang, and need to be forced quit.
    - If I check that finished DVD-R with Disk Utility, it'll show:
    --Capacity 4.4GB (4,706,074,624)
    --Used 4.4GB (4,739,385,344)
    - Same results with two decent media, a Sony 16x and a Ritex G05 8x.
    - After reading a lot of posts in this discussion board, I tried two things:
    1. Clean up my primary HD, which was down to <10GB free. I realized that I need double the disk space to properly burn. Now, it's at around 30GB free.
    2. Instead of direct burn, I saved it as Disc Image. Results:
-- Video_TS file totally fine when played with DVD Player.
-- Disc Utility shows: Capacity 4,739,923,968 Bytes, Used 4,739,385,344 Bytes
But when I tried to burn that image onto a disc in Disk Utility, it says the media doesn't have enough room.
    3. I went back to iDVD 6's "Project Info", and the "DVD Capacity" bar is now filled, yellow and says "4.2GB of 4.2GB".
[I actually tried earlier with a slightly different version with longer motion menus, and a slightly longer movie. And the DVD it tried to burn is even larger, at 4,847,159,296 Bytes. Similar results, but that DVD will end about 4 minutes short. But I didn't write down all the iDVD 6 details that time.]
    SOOOOOO....
It seems to me that iDVD 6 is miscalculating its rendering or compression ratio, and is creating a final disc image larger than the capacity of a single-layer DVD-R, even though all parameters are set and displayed correctly.
For me, I'll cut down on the motion menu duration to see if that will help, as I'm right now JUST BARELY over the capacity.
Because of the early audio problem with iMovie/iDVD 6, this is the my first "finished" iDVD 6 product. Before, I have had no problem with movies that are close to the 120-minute limit, though this is the first time I use a 5.0 Theme with motion menus.
So, any ideas, any comments? Please post. Also, what else should I do besides posting here to let Apple and other users know of this problem? Thanks!

    G4 Gigabit Ethernet Dual 1.6GHz Mac OS X (10.4.5) Pioneer DVR-110D, 1.12G RAM

    An update:
I cut down the loop duration of the motion menus, from 5:46 to 2:50. The resulting disc image is down to 4.25GB (4,563,716,096 bytes) and will fit onto a single-layer DVD-R.
So, I finally made my first successful DVD using iDVD 6. Still don't know why this has been such an adventure compared to earlier iLife versions.

  • Imovie hd to idvd

I am making a video using moving clips and text stills (created in Photoshop/high resolution). I have done the editing in iMovie HD 6.0.3. Everything looks great in iMovie, but when I "render" the project, to "share" it with iDVD the text stills loose definition and even the moving clips deteriorate in quality.
I have set everything at professional quality and have even tried importing the project into iDVD without rendering. When I do so the video looks fine in iDVD, but when I burn it to a disk the quality is again low. I assume the program renders the project any way, and there was a pop up to that effect...
I would have done the text still in iMovie Hd if it did not have the fade in - out on the centered text option (which can not be turned off), but that would not change the overall poor quality of the moving clips.
I am at my end!!! Any suggestions how to solve this problem? Thanks.
