Idvd converts my 16:9 avi files into 4:3

i created movies in adobe with out put settings of dv-pal 16:9 avi and in idvd it continually alters them into 4:3..i have checked all the relevant aspect windows...is this a avi issue what is most secure file format for idvd to handle most of my movies are in widescreen

I'm having a similar issue. When you say don't export as an avi - I don't know that I necessarily know how it's exporting. I click on the menu and click share to media browser, then I import it into iMovie.
Need answer rather quickly as I'm trying to create a disc in 16:9 for other people.
Here's what I posted in another thread:
Here's my ordeal (and it's similar to the original issue) - I committed to making a video with pics to music for the baseball team. I used iMovie 08 to do this, and I'm quite pleased with the results. I then exported to use in iDVD, burned a test, and played on the good ol' HDTV.
Bleh.
My biggest issue is that the pictures look horrible. My second biggest issue is that although I created this in a 16:9 format, the DVD is 4:3. Everything is blurry and the titles are cut off because it's no longer wide format.
How can I 1) ensure the quality is at least better than it currently is and 2) kick it back to 16:9 for others to view on their respective HDTVs? Again, I'll review the iDVD prefs, but I'm at a loss - +and+ out of time.
Thanks in advance.

  • Import 32 GB of AVI files into FCP X?

Hello, I need to import 32 GB of AVI files into FCP X. It seems iMOVIE has no problem accepting AVI's, but FCP X says they are not "importable" (as I believe AVI is not a supported format in FCP X).
Can someone please recommend the best way for me to import 32GB of AVI into FCP X? With brief research, I believe Mpeg Stream Clip (?) would be an option, but I want something efficient and will be able mass convert if necessary (don't want to convert each individual clip).
Also what would be the best filetype to convert the AVI's into?
Any prompt insight would really be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Well, I've got time if thats what it takes.
My goal is to convert the 32gb of "AVI files" into something compatible in FCP X without reducing the video quality. I don't know a specific file type, I just imported them from MINI DV into Sony Vegas (and then just dragged the files from Vegas onto an external and now just want them to get into FCP X)
I just downloaded Stream Clip, added 100 clips (4gb) of avi clips to batch list, but am having trouble converting. I tried converting to DV or Quicktime and the response is "Error: Can't create the MOV file"

  • I am trying to convert a standard definition AVI file 720x576 widescreen file into a full sized Quicktime file in imovie but having cropping issues

    Hi
I am trying to convert a standard definition AVI file 720x576 (16:9)  file into a full sized Quicktime file in imovie 11. When importing the file I get two options either import as large 960 x540 or full original size. So I choose full original size but when I drag this imported clip to my timeline the bottom of the clip has been cut off? I tried to export it as a quicktime file thinking that perhaps it might resize to the original size but of course that was wishful thinking
    Any ideas appreciated?

Hi No I have just checked its definitely a PAL 16;9 project. I am also slightly confused because when importing the video into the project it has squashed it into 4:3 format even though my file is 16:9?

  • .AVI files into after effects do not work? how do I fix?

When I record with my vivitar dvr 840xhd camera, and try to import the files into after effects. The files import into after effects just fine, except the little icon of the video is all grey. But when I put it into the comp and try to view it. The whole video is only a black screen. I try to watch it and find out that the audio works in it. but not the video. Throwing it into media encoder and trying to convert it only does the same thing, just a black screen with audio. But when I play the file on windows media player it works just fine. I have After effects CS5 and I run windows 7. Anyone have any good anwsers? Perferably one that does not reqire another program video converter to put it into the file type I. I tryed that before with many other video converters. I either loose quaility. If im filming in 60fps, it is reduced to 30fps. I can only convert so much in one clip. And most leave watermarks. I would much rather be able to import these .avi files into after effects without the wait and annoyance of a 3rd party program. Thanks for the help.

Probably not. AVI is just a generic container format and without any more info we will not be able to give you any proper answers. Even their website doesn't give any specifics. Use GSpot or MediaInfo to find out what CoDecs it is using exactly. Since the camera is based on Flash memory, though, I already get this ugly feeling it is using some atrocious non-standard MPEG4 derivative nad that would mean there is no chance at all to use it directly in AE...

  • Can't import .avi files into Captivate 4

I need some help, I'm getting really frustrated.  My project consists of about 10 short movies (2-3 minutes each) with quiz questions between the movies.  The movies were produced in Adobe Premiere Elements 2 and exported as .avi files.  When I go to import the files, I get this error:  "This AVI file cannot be converted into a Adobe Flash file.  Conversion aborted."
I have tried converting the .avi files into .flv files (using Flash Video Encoder CS3), but that doesn't work for us for two reasons.  Captivate won't display the .flv files while in edit mode; it will only play them after the entire project has been produced.  After the project has been produced, however, the video of the .flv displays, but the audio from ALL of the .flv files in the project plays at the same time, rendering all of the dialogue unintelligible.
I have been trying to solve this problem for a couple of weeks now, but I'm not getting anywhere.  Is there a specific codec I should be trying to use here?  Is there another process I should be using?  Is there a way that I can resolve the .flv issues?

I'm OCD about this sort of stuff, too!
I just insert my .avi files as animations, and that seems to work fine, so I'm no help there.
I don't know enough about codecs to even comment. *sigh*
And, my problem with .flv's has always been the other way around. When I insert an .flv, it always asks for the absolute path (like C:\Videos\VideoName.flv). Then, right before I create the .zip to upload to the LMS, I have to edit the path to VideoName.flv, and then check to make sure the file is on the .zip root, otherwise it won't play on the LMS 'cause it "can't find the file."
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but if you're like me, at least you can get your work done while this eats into your mind and eventually drives you crazy. *grin*

  • Importing AVI files into Final cut creates a pop

How can I stop getting a popping sound when I import AVI files into Final Cut. I figured it must be the type of file itself but I cant seem to find a free converter to convert my AVIs into what ever is need (which is what? .mov files?)
    Please help

The very basics of non-linear editing is to know what video and audio codecs your particular NLE works with natively. FCP works with many video codecs but only a few audio codecs. Typically it works best with AIFF at 48khz, 16 bit.
You can find out all the various native codecs and formats in the User's Manual, Help Files or by looking through the Easy Setup list.
FWIW, both AVI and MOV are not really codecs at all; they are both merely containers that could contain video and audio made from any number of codecs. So saying you have an AVI file or a MOV file is kind of like saying you have a car ... it doesn't really tell anyone much at all.
Both QuickTime Pro and Compressor (which you most likely already have installed) should be able to convert to a native codec for use in FCP.

  • No video, only audio when importing .avi file into CS2

I recorded 920p footage on a GoPro Hero 3 at 50fps. GoPro recordes MP4 files, I wanted to edit the footage in PP CS2 as it gives me more control than GoPro studio.
I used GoPro Studio to convert the MP4 files into avi files and amended the white balance and saturation etc, as I recorded using Pro Tune which gives a flatter colour profile.
The avi files run well in Windows Media Player (although don't seem to have the clarity of video's on the GoPro website!)
I have then imported the avi files into CS2 to put together the edit and I can only hear the audio and can't see the video in the source stream or the program stream.
I assume I have a setting wrong in CS2, could any one advise what I need to change to get the problem rectified?
I was planning on exporting the finished problem at 720p if makes a differance

    Also, CS2 has a different forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous

  • How can I convert my Open Source document files into Word document files? I cannot download Pages since my Macbook Air does not have the most recent software.

How can I convert my Open Source document files into Word document files? I cannot download Pages since my Macbook Air does not have the most recent software. I downloaded open office to my mac to try and save money. It worked well for a while. Now I get this pop-up message that asks me to "Reopen" and when I select the option, nothing happens. I cannot save my documents anymore and I cannot convert them to word. Help!

Does OpenOffice output Word documents by default or do you have to select it manually?
You have 17 options to save as in Open Office, one of which is .doc  files,  yes it needs to be saved manually.
You may be able to default to DOC, but have not tried same.
Since Open Office is 99% same as Word, I use it, or Word, either one.  Open Office is a bit less buggy than Word 11'

  • Importing avi files into jsp pages

hello all. im new to jsp and java. i would like to know how i could import .avi files from my MySQL database (where ive given paths for the avi files) into a jsp page. i am basically trying to make an application that allows users to select particular video files and play them. the user has the ability to upload and delete these videos

    newbie4337 wrote:
im sorry i guess i didn't phrase that properly. i meant to say that i had saved the paths in the database If you have some saved URLs in the database (URLs to where these avi files can be found)
you just need to retrieve the URLs and use them when generating links (<a href="..."></a>) in the html produced by your JSP.
You have already given the paths in the html generated by your jsp? Paths as in URLs?
Then you must already have a servlet deployed that accepts HTTP requests for .avi URLs and reads the relevant .avi from the database and serves back an avi stream with the right mime type (video/x-msvideo) in the headers...
    ([w3schools|http://www.w3schools.com/media/media_mimeref.asp]).
could you give me some more info on that?If the URLs are hosted somewhere else you do not need any of this.

  • How can I import a .AVI file into my project?

I want to import a .AVI file into my video project but Final Cut Pro will not import it. Final Cut says the file is not recognized but it plays with Quicktime.

    DJ OZA,
Do you get the warning "Media files are not optimized for FCP. Either recapture the media or use Media Manager to crate new copies of the files to improve performance for multi-stream playback."?
    What does this mean?
I can import and edit the files no problem either, except for that waring, which concerns me.
It means you will not be able to use the multiclip feature with these files because your Macintosh is working very hard to decode them on the fly. More than one stream will choke your machine.
Your AVIs are visible in FCP because you happen to have acquired an AVI file that uses a codec you have available on your machine.
AVI isn't even supported by Microsoft; it's been a totally concatenated delivery wrapper for more than a decade. It only survives because of entrenchment.
Use Get INfo on one of your AVI clips, figure out what codec was used, use Google to find out what you can about the codec, and decide how you want to proceed. You want to determine what your output is going to be and work backwards from that decision. For instance, if you're going to distribute a standard MPEG2 DVD, you want to edit using conventional DV. Transcode you AVI files to DV using Compressor.
Your easiest solution will be to edit on a PC that does handles the AVI natively or to contact whoever gae you the files and demand they provide you with clips you can edit on a Macintosh.

  • How do you convert a swf or mp4 file into flv using creative cloud programs?

I am trying to embed a video as HTML5 with Flash fallback into my Dreamwaver site and only have the swf file of the video.
Please let me know if you have any ideas about how to convert a swf or mp4 file into flv, without loosing pixels and quality of the swf file.
    Thank you!

If you have MP4 video, you can use Pickle Player which has built-in Flash fallback for Mozilla.  No conversions required .

  • Imporing AVI files into Imovie 9

    Hey there
I am finding it impossible to import a AVI file into Imovie 9, it will recognise it as an improtable file but when i select it and click choose it just tries to process it and then acts as though I never clicked on it in the first place... no error message nothing.
Its strange that a video editing software is so limited (please dont say its not meant for editing strange movie formats as AVI is quite common) - is there a codec I can install or something to fix this problem?

Stop taking my post down - I bought your product and have an oppinion. I gave nice clear examples and asked questions!
You charge your Customers loads of money but cant handle it when they get angry for having to pay even more to fix something instead of offering a solution. Get it right.
