I was playing a rented movie in ITunes, when all of a sudden the application crashed.

  • IDVD 7.0.2 crashes when adding more movies

I am using iDVD 7.0.2, because I have the old 17" Mac laptop.
The iDVD crashes when adding more than one movie and trying to save the project.
    Any idea about that ?

I'm assuming you really mean 20GB's or more of hard drive space rather than RAM memory .... only because I don't anyone on this forum with 20GB's or more of random access memory.
This is directly from the iDvd Help Menu:
    Best Performance
When you select Best Performance, iDVD encodes your video in the background as you’re working on your project instead of waiting until you burn it. This can significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to create a finished DVD. This is a good choice if your project is an hour or less in duration (for a single-layer disc). You’ll finish your project more quickly, and the encoding quality will be excellent for the amount of video you have.
Best Performance encodes your video at a preset bit rate that produces great quality for projects that can easily fit on your disc. If you have a larger project that needs to be squeezed onto a disc, you should select one of the other encoding options.
To check menus open the drop zone editor and check menu info.
Motion Menus in general are not intended for long durations. Suggestion: Keep loops short and sweet (including any added audio).
This too is directly from iDvd's Help Menu:
The menus in a DVD can include background movies that play while the menu is showing as well as buttons that play video (called “motion buttons”). The total allowable playing time for video in all such “motion menus” in a DVD is 15 minutes. If total playing time is longer than 15 minutes, you will not be able to burn the DVD. You can keep track of the playing time for all menus in a project in the Project Info window.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • How to put a .mov file on a dvd using lion and have a commercial DVD player play my movie? iDVD is gone.  I never had it.

I have found a lot of frustration around this topic but no answers.
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.4.
I have a video I made with iMovie.  I want to burn it to a DVD for commercial DVD playback.  It's as simple as that.
    Things I've tried.
    1. Using iMovie, I saved an HD version of the project to my desktop as a .MOV file.  I know I can just burn that to a DVD.  It won't play.  I need a utility/program to put the necessary files on the DVD so a commercial namebrand DVD player will have what it needs.
    2. I heard iDVD used to do this but it's not on my MacBook Pro (Lion OS).  I've researched things like "What replaced iDVD" but found nothing but a but of complaining.  (and I can see why).
    3. I have looked for freeware.  It all looks fishy.
    Other options I'm looking into.
Use my Mac and connect a cable to the big TV screen.  Play the movie using this screen as a secondary monitor.  Problem - I have a dozen cables but none for this combo.
Move the .MOV file to a PC and play it using QuickTime.  The cables I have will work for a PC to TV.  Sad option.

Have you tried...     Burn 2.5.1 (FREE)

  • TS1717 iTunes crashes when I attempt to play a movie

After installing the new iTunes update, the program crashes when I attempt to play a movie or TV episode. Any ideas anyone?
    Many thanks.

Sounds like Quicktime is causing the problem.
Try to start Quicktime and see if it works.
If it works then try to run Apple Software Update, to see if Quicktime needs an update.
Else try to install ITunes and Quicktime again (As it is already installed, it will give you the option to do a repair)

  • Movie in idvd won't play on windows pc

I make lot's of movies with imovie and burn them in idvd. My mac and other dvd players play the movies just fine. However, the windows pc of my co-workjers do not play the movies. Any suggestions for me ? They want to bash Macintosh because I am the Only mac user--I won't give in--but this scenario isn't helping me defend my mac. I hope someone can help me -so I can keep my mac--thanks for any advice!

In this forum some months ago, it was claimed that PC/windows error correction software wasn't very effective. One suggestion is to try the oft-recommended solution to reduce burning errors by using high quality media (Vebatim is a favorite around here; I like Sony on sale) and to burn the DVDs from disk images so you can reduce the burn speed to 1x or 2x with Roxio Toast or Disk Utility.

  • IE and FireFox crashing when trying to play QuickTime movie

I'm on a PC running Windows 2000 and QuickTime 7. I'm trying to play some movies of my own within a browser but am experiencing problems with the browsers crashing. Sometimes, they work the first time, but after that the browsers crash. The error messages are:
Microsoft IE has encountered a problem and needs to close.
firefox.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
I've been trying variations of the HTML code but here is the last one that actually worked the first time in FireFox but not anytime after that:

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks,

You've failed to enter a "source" for your HREF "target".
Use a complete URL to the QT file you wish the "quicktimeplayer" to "target" and your page should work as you want.

There may be an explanation for what you have run into.
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running? Windows 8 or 8.1? And, are you exporting to MPEG2.mpg file and playing that back on Windows Media Player? If that is the case, please download and install the VLC player
VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!
and let us know if the export plays back video and audio on that player.
If this is the known Microsoft MPEG2 Windows Media Player issue, then explore Publish+Share/Computer/ opportunities other than MPEG or use the VLC player instead of Windows Media Player for the playback of the MPEG2.mpg exports.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thanks.

  • IDVD crashes when encoding imported Quicktime movies

I have quicktime movie slideshows that I made from iPhoto and posted on the web. The original photos have since been lost in a hard drive crash. I am trying to make a DVD with four of these movies.
They seem to import OK. They preview OK. But when I burn the DVD (or make a disk image) iDVD crashes after finishing encoding the menus and starting on the slideshow/movie encoding.
I have tried it with a slideshow exported directly from iPhoto and it works fine. I have tried doing several individual quicktime movies to see if one of them was the culprit, but it still crashes.
    Any suggestions?

I have quicktime movie slideshows that I made from iPhoto and posted on the web.
    John,
    Welcome to the iDVD forum!
    Any suggestions?
Whenever a movie is causing some issues, it can be better to export it as full quality DV. You can do this with QT Pro, or by importing it into iMovie. You might lose some QT special effects when you do this, but it might fix whatever glitch is causing problems.
Then use the iMovie project (or QT Pro exported DV file) in iDVD. Use "save as disk image" to test it out on one movie.

  • Itunes 7.1.1 crashes when play Itunes purchased movie/video

I have Vista Home Premium running on an HP Pavillion M7790Y. I just installed Itunes 7.1.1, music plays fine but when I play a movie purchased on itunes, it begins then gets stuck and then ultimately crashes. Any ideas?

I personally can't see how iTunes would work
differently with SATA drives or IDE drives - the OS
does that. Then again, strange things do happen!
You're looking at it the wrong way, most likely.
It isn't that iTunes works differently with SATA. It's that something in the SATA drivers doesn't like the way iTunes (really QuickTime, actually) is accessing the disks.
But yes, I have Vista Ultimate, iTunes 7.1.1 and SATA
drives. As will nearly everybody else who has bought
a new PC in the last two years or so. I'd assume this
    to be a widespread problem!
Actually SATA drives in typical home PCs are a relatively recent phenomenon, and Vista is obviously brand new. That said, most new PCs other than the lowest end ones now have SATA drives and run Vista, so if this really is a SATA + Vista problem (and again, no one has definitively proven that it is) it will begin to affect large numbers of people soon.
Edit to add... I just copied a downloaded video onto
my FreeNAS box, which uses a CIFS connection. I
opened the video in Quicktime and - it plays
perfectly fine. So there you go, it looks confirmed.
    How silly! Fix it Apple!!!
Yup, doing something like that would have been one of my suggested workarounds. In my case I have both IDE and SATA drives in my system, so I put my iTunes folder on my IDE drive for now.
Gotta tell you, this drove me absolutely nuts for nearly two weeks when I first upgraded to Vista, which is one of the reasons I post about it a lot - so others doing a Google search will find these posts and know they're not alone.

  • Playing rental movies freezes / crashes iTunes. Someone working on a fix?

.....or is this just a random error? Don't think so since there are a few more with the same problem.
I’ve been waiting for a solution to this problem since iTunes rental was started, but obviously there’s not enough “complaining“ about this error! Well here’s one more try! I hope a few more people start complaining so that this gets fixed.
When I try to play a rented movie I am asked the usual question about the 24 hour policy and as soon as I press OK, just when you think the movie will start playing, the screen turns black, or gray as described by others and our friendly beach ball appears. No sound, no picture, nothing! iTunes simply freezes forever until you force it to quit, or turn off the Mac.
After that the rented movie appears as it was never played in iTunes, the 24 hour runtime didn’t start counting, but the 30 day clock starts ticking.
There is of course one thing I observed, my MacBook gets extremely loud which would lead to increased processor activity, which I usually don’t experience except if I run many resourceful applications at once. As soon as I force iTunes to quit this is back to normal.
*Everything else, bought movies, TV shows, music, etc. works perfectly without any error or problem.*
Of course I got a refund from the iTunes store, but no indication why this problem occurred and most important how and when it will be solved.
This happened on a MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with Mac OS X 10.4.11 with updated software including iTunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4. But as far as I can see from other posts this is not limited to certain Hardware, because many different systems including Windows users have the same problem.
Things I have tried “inspired” by other forums:
*1. Updated and checked for new updates several times.*
*2. Completely removed Quicktime, downloaded and installed latest version from Apple.*
*3. Bought music to check if iTunes account has problems.*
*4. Different firewall settings, turned firewall off during play! Yes firewall is back on.*
*5. Monitored activity and firewall during play without any obvious problem.*
*6. Played movie with and without internet connection, cable and wifi.*
*7. Played movie with Quicktime, didn’t work error “authorization required”.*

I too downloaded the update to Quicktime, but it did not solve my problem. After much pulling out of the hair, I found a fix for myself. It may help someone else. This is what I had to do:
    1. Make sure that movies are set to play in a seperate window (found in Edit/Preferences/Playback.
    2. Open iTunes (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLAY THE MOVIE FROM iTUNES). Instead switch to the mini player mode (found under Advanced).
    3. Open your movie folder where the rental is. The movie folder is usually found in My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies. Right click on the rented movie and select "Play". It will open in a regular window, but you should be able to click on the control for full screen at the bottom of the play control. I hope this helps someone else... I have tested it three times and it's worked every time.

  • Dvd burn stops idvd crashes

Have been having problem when burning dvd, burns so far than quits & notice idvd crash
do not understand what the message means is happening with every dvd burn attempt
Also need to know how to send idvd project to trash / delete when done with it

I had the same problem until I realized I was editing in HD after years of editing Standard DVD video.  My hard drive was formated for 32bit and can only record up to 4 GB per file.  I had to take one of my hard drives and reformat it to the journal setting so there are no blocks which leaves the entire hard drive of a 2TB unit to record those unbeleavable HD movies.  The mov I was trying to take to IDVD was 26GB and it recoreded all the way this time.  I DVD will automatically dreduce it to fit on a standard DVD.
Whats rediculous is that every one records in HD now because they can but give little thought as to how its going to be edited.  Standard DVD looks great when played on a blue ray and no professionals dont want to pay the extra fee to edit and take it to blue ray as many people dont have Blue ray yet.
Other problems can also stop your recording like a bad still photo file or one that is still in a raw state and not formated.
    Hope this helps.
