IDVD crashed and left its files somewhere

Hello all,
I was doing a 1-step DVD off my digital video cam today, and there was a jam in the processing, so I had to force-quit the application. The problem now is that the imported video is somewhere on my hard drive - and I have to get it off and free up that space fast!
Where is this import stored? I know there is a "deleted encoded assets" menu option, but it's greyed out unless you are in a project, and then it only applies to that current project. How do I delete the info from a one-step import.
Thanks,
Aaron

Of course I stumbled on this myself this morning after I had shut the computer off last night! Makes sense...and thank you.
(I wish all of my old Windows computers were smart enough to get rid of temporary files that way! )
Cheers everyone,
Aaron

  • Crashes and read-only file systems

Notice: I apolgize for the long post, I've tried to be as thorough as possible.  I have searched everywhere for possible solutions, but things I've found end up being temporary workarounds or don't apply to my situation.  Any help, even as simple as, "have you checked out XYZ log, it's hidden here", would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
I'm not sure what exactly caused the issues below, but they did start to happen within a day of running pacman -Syu.  I hadn't run that since I first installed Arch on December 2nd of this year.
    Setup:
    Thinkpad 2436CTO
    UEFI/GPT
    SSD drive
    Partitions: UEFISYS, Boot, LVM
The LVM is encrypted and is broken up as: /root, /var, /usr, /tmp, /home
All LVM file systems are EXT4 (used to have /var and /tmp as ReiserFS)
The first sign that something was wrong was gnome freezing.  Gnome would then crash and I'd get booted back to the shell with all filesystems mounted as read-only.  I started having the same issues as this OP:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150704
At the time, I had /var and /tmp as ReiserFS, and would also get reiserfs_read_locked_inode errors.
When shutting down (even during non-crashed sessions) I would notice this during shutdown:
    Failed unmounting /var
    Failed unmounting /usr
Followed by a ton of these:
device-mapper: remove ioctl on <my LVM group> failed: Device or resource busy
Nother of these errors had ever appeared before.
After hours of looking for solutions (and not finding any that worked) I was convinced (without any proof) that my Reiser file systems were corrupt and so I reformatted my entire SSD and started anew - not the Arch way, I know   I set all logical volumes as EXT4.
    After started anew, I noticed
device-mapper: remove ioctl on LVM_SysGroup failed: Device or resource busy
was still showing up, even with just a stock Arch setup (maybe even when powering off via Arch install ISO, don't remember).  After a lot of searching, I found that most people judged it a harmless error, so I ignored it and continued setting up Arch.
I set up Gnome and a basic LAMP server, and everything seemed to work for a couple of hours.  Soon after, I got the same old issues back.  The System-journald issue came back and per the workaround on https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150704 and a couple other places, I rotated the journals and stopped journald from saving to storage.  That seemed to stop THOSE errors from at least overwhelming the shell, but I would still get screen freezes, crashes, and read-only file systems.
I had to force the laptop to power off, since poweroff/reboot/halt commands weren't working (would get errors regarding the filesystems mounted as read-only).
I utilized all disk checking functions possible.  From running the tests (SMART test included) that came as part of my laptop's BIOS to full blown fsck.  All tests showed the drive was working fine, and Fsck would show everything was either clean, or
    Clearing orphaned inode ## (uid=89, gid=89, mode=0100600, size=###
Free blocks count wrong (###, counted=###)
Which I would opt to fix.  Nothing serious, though.
I could safely boot back into Arch and use the system fine until the system decides to freeze/crash and do the above all over again.
The sure way of recreating this for me is to run a cron job on a local site I'm developing. After a brief screen freeze (mouse still moveable but everything is otherwise unreponsive) I'll systemctl status mysqld.service and notice that mysqld went down.
It seems that it's at this point my file systems are mounted as read only, as trying to do virtually anything results in:
unable to open /var/db/sudo/...: Read-only file system
After some time, X/Gnome crashes and I get sent back to shell with
    ERROR: file_stream_metrics.cc(37)
    RecordFileError() err = 30 source = 1 record = 0
    Server terminated successfully (0)
Closing log file.or_delegate.h(30)] sqlite erro1, errno 0: SQL logic error or missing database[1157:1179
rm: cannot remove '/tmp/serverauth.teuroEBhtl': Read-only file system
Before all this happened, I was using Arch just fine for a few weeks.  I wiped the drives and started anew, and this still happens with just the minimal number of packages installed.
I've searched for solutions to each individual problem, but come across a hack that doesn't solve anything (like turning off storing logs for journal), or the solution doesn't apply to my case.
At this point, I'm so overwhelmed I'm not even sure where exactly to pick up figuring this issue out.
Thanks in advance for any help

Did this occur when you booted from the live/install media?
What is your current set up? That is, partitions, filesystems etc. I take it you have not yet reinstalled X but are in the default CLI following installation?
If turning off log storage didn't help, reenable it so that you may at least stand a chance of finding something useful.
What services, if any, are you running? What non-default daemons etc.?
Does it happen if you keep the machine off line?
Have you done pacman -Syu since installation and dealt with any *.pacnew files?

  • How to completely remove safari and all its files?

I have Windows Vista and I need to COMPLETELY remove Safari and ALL its files. It is important that it is completely removed, and I've already tried simply uninstalling (from "uninstall a program" in the control panel)it but it doesn't get rid of EVERYTHING safari. I think some of the files are damaged or something because Safari won't open. How would I do this?
Message was edited by: Friends of Apple

Just go into Control panel and Uninstall programs. Select Safari and select uninstall.

  • IDVD crashes and Didn't burn my Theme's menu page....

OK, I'm new to iDVD but here goes....iDVD crashed 4x typically just after reviewing the current changes and trying to add media from iTunes (after reviewing the DVD). Therefore I just avoided doing that again to get around it. But this is a bit of a pain especially if you wanted to change anything! However, what really ground my gears was after burning a trial DVD I ended with no menu page whatsoever. Oddly, everything played as it should, I just had no menu to select anything from. Would anyone care to hazzard an explanation and or solution?
    Much obliged!
    Wayne

    +My mac is a 2.0ghz intel 20" screen model.+
    So it's an iMac?
Keep your iDVD project file here: User/Documents. Don't store it on an external drive. You can store video on the externals. Still images might be better for you on the internal. This is to keep the internal with 20+GB free space in the future.
    +The discs I'm using are Rewritable Philips +RW (4.7gb/ 120min video)+
    THAT may be your problem.
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility. You can set burn speed in iDVD '08 if not creating a disc image.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his iDVD 6 book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
I buy Verbatim white inkjet printable in stacks of 50. Verbatim's part number: 94971. They have been flawless for me.

  • HELP!!! Quicktime Crashed and Perminanlty Deleted Files HELP!!!

I was trimming a movie file in quicktime when the application crashed. Upon crashing I saw my file get deleted from my computer. It isn't in my trash bin or anywhere on my computer. I DID NOT DO THIS, why did quicktime delete my file? How can I recover it? Someone please help meeeeee.

This is a video file taken with my camera. I exported it onto my computer.
If you exported the file to your computer, then the exported version of the file should still be on your computer unless, a) you never actually stored it on your computer, b) deleted it, or c) overwrote it by saving a different version to itself. Therefore, the question becomes "How did you 'export' the file to your computer?" and "Which version of QT were you using to trim the file?"
It deleted the original source file is what I'm saying... When I went to trim the video to make it shorter quicktime crashed and erased the Source File, the original and the only copy that I had.
Normally I would say this is impassible unless you deleted the source file manually during the editing process before the crash. The crash should simply lose all edits made before the crash but not affect the source file. Even stting the source file to a zero frame playback doration in QT 7 Pro and then saving the playback pointers would not delete the original file. And, even though your could not play the data with the QT player, the file would still exist and the data would still exist in the file whilch third-party players could still play. The only way I can force this to happen is to open the file in QT 7, copyth the data to temporary memory, delete the original file, begin trimming, and then have QT crash while working on the "temporarily" stored data in the "project" player being edited.
It's not in the trash and file recovery programs aren't finding it either. It has left me very confused and with a very bad image of Quicktime in my mind.
Editing projects are, by their very nature, "nascent" until they are exported or saved. Therefore it would not appear in your trash nor would the source file appear in the trash unless you put it there. Some forms of editing (like QT 7 trims using in/out references) can be written to the source file container which will prevent your accessing the data in the QT player but does not physically remove the data from the file container.
Without knowing your specific workflow and apps used, it is difficult to try and guess what might have happened.

  • Flash CS5.5 constantly crashing and no autorecovery file created!

We are on CS5.5 in our studio (and no upgrade will be done in any near future, so we are stuck with this version)
So Flash crashes are frequent and we all knonw it.
Most of the times Flash also destroys the file it was trying to save during a crash, so that the file cannot be opened after. I would expect at least Auto-Recovery function to compensate for this nightmare, but for some reason it does not create any auto-recovery file! My Auto-recovery is ON and set for 20 minutes, and my Auto-Save is always off in all files.
This is totally ridiculous. What the hell are we paying for?!?!
Update: I just realized, that setting auto-recovery to 10 minutes solved it (at least for now) - now Flash does create the Auto-Recovery file. But It's quite frustrating to work with it freezing every 10 minutes to save. 20 minutes or even 30 is more acceptable, but it doesn't work

Flash only creates an auto-recovery file when you haven't manually saved.  Every time you manually save, it resets the timer.  So it may be possible that when your auto-recovery was set to longer intervals you weren't seeing an auto-recovery file because you were manually saving before Flash had time to create one.
As for the occasional corruption bug...that's a whole different issue that I have daily nightmares about.

  • Photoshop CC crashes, and my working file disappears from the network

I was just wondering, has anyone ever had Photoshop CC crash, and then realize the file you were working on disappeared off the network?
I've had other files where it created a 'recovered' file upon reopening of Photoshop, but the one that crashed it, is gone...
is there a way to allocate/recover that missing file?

There is typically no way to get back lost files, short of restoring backups.  I hope your administrator is backing up your server regularly.
May I suggest you change your working habits to avoid working on files directly on your network server.  Instead, copy the file to your local PC with your OS tools (e.g., Finder) and work on it there, save it there, then when you are done copy it back to the network server.
Adobe always advises not to save files directly to the network, because of the possibility that things can go wrong and data be lost.

  • IOS7 update caused iTunes crash and left phone at loading screen.

I had originally attempted to update via the on phone option, but when that failed I went to itunes. All was going well ntil it came time to install the software on the phone. iTunes promptly crashed, and my phone is stuck on a black screen with the Apple logo and a progress bar. Any help would be appreciated.

Fcopertini, at my visit with the apple store somehow the guy took my phone and got it to enter in the "restore mode" and be recognized right away by using the method mentioned here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808... (I tried this like 5 times to no avail) not sure what he did.
But when I got home I still was unable to get my phone to be connected to my computer. I did a little bit more research and tried 3 more things, and was able to finally get my phone recognized and restored. (my iTunes was the newest version becuase I could not download iOS 7 without it)
    1. I stopped and restarted the Apple Mobile Device service. (I figured that after removing and installing itunes completely twice would do that already but who knows)
    2. I removed the Apple mobile device USB driver (found in device manager under Universal serial bus controlers) again and then connected my phone to the computer to allow it to find the driver for me. (I had already done that before but maybe in combination with restarting the service it helped)
    3. I removed my phone from the mophie case (it has a battery pack on it and makes the 30 pin connector to mini usb) Though I do not think this was the problem becuase I have connected it to my computer before multiple times and even after I did the restore I tried with the case on and it worked.
But all in all so I guess the firs two might have helped my computer see the phone again, and if that works then try following the links instructions about the recovery mode.
The guy at the apple store pretty much followed the instructions exaclty, except on #1, he just left the phone plugged into the computer and then tried the reset thing. It then recognized it was in recovery mode and hit restore for me.
I think I would have been able to do it if I had been able to get my computer to recognize my phone before hand. Sorry this is long but maybe it will help.

  • I have radeon hd 6700 graphics card yet photoshop keeps crashing and say its not supported

I don't know why but for some reason photoshop keeps crashing and tells me to go to some webpage because i keeps saying i don't have 512mb of ram but i have 1 gb.  I don't have a clue on how to fix it.

Hello! you might have another graphic card that is not disabled. Could you please post the contents of Help>System info... so that we can help you troubleshoot it?

  • IDVD crashed, and can't restore it form iLife 06 Disc, Help!!

    Dear all:
My iDVD 6 crashed after I upgrade my Macintosh HD from 500GB to 750GB HD (I used apple's disc utility to clone all data from 500GB to 750GB HD, and it seems working just fine until today...)
I try to launch iDVD but it did not response and keeps telling me that "DVD Menu 2.mov" is missing, I've check all the DVD menu clips at both Macintosh HD Application and my home folder Libarary/Application Support/iDVD/installed themes...
It seems to me that every file is in place! So anyone know how to solve this problem?
    thanks in advance!!
    Kevin

I used apple's disc utility to clone all data from 500GB to 750GB HD
I don't recall hearing THAT approach being used before - I'm not at all sure Disk Utility will get all the invisible and hidden files you need from all over your hard drive.
I think you really need to use something like Carbon Copy Cloner to do what you described. http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Edit: Kev, I've asked for additional help on this issue from individuals more familiar with cloning issues.

  • IDVD crashes when dragging music file

Upgraded from 6.03 to iLife '08 and first noticed that no sound in menus. Then when trying to add music to menu program crased (as soon as dragging starts). Spent 3 hours with tech support. Uninstalled (klugy deletion of various files and folders) then reinstalled iDVD...TWICE. Thought we had it fixed. But as soon as tech hung up and program relaunched: BAM! crash as soon as music file is drug from the media tab.
    WHAT's THE ANSWERE?

    REVELATIION!
Just discovered that only certain musical selections in the media-audio folder's list cause iDVD to crash. So I opened iTunes and can see there that the offending entries are marked with a circled ! in the first column which pops up a message when double-clicked: "This song could not be used because the original file could not be found."
After deleting all "not found" entries from iTunes, the problem is solved! iDVD no longer crashes when draging a music resource.
It really shakes my confidence in Apple software, to have such intolerance between shared applications. With all the problems being reported with iDVD, it looks very much like an alpha release, in need of a beta version at least.

  • Acrobat X Pro crashed and deleted the file

    I am using Acrobat X Pro 10.1.3 in OS X 10.1.1.
I was working on a file. Acrobat crashed without warning and reopened. It did not reopen the file. I looked in the Open a Recent File dialog box and in the Recently Opened menu, and my file was not there. I then looked for the file in the OS X Finder, and it appeared there as a blank file, but then--when I highlighted it--the file icon disappeared. I restarted Acrobat, and THIS time the file appeared in the dialog box and the Recently Opened menu, but when I selected it, I got a File Not Found message.
I also did a search on the entire Mac for my file and it is absolutely gone.
The problem isn't just this file--it's that it could happen to any file I am working on. The only work-around I have for now is to break large files into smaller parts by extracting the pages, so that if I lose a file, the damage is not as bad. But that's ridiculous.
This file had been saved. Repeatedly. Didn't make any difference. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure the size is right, but this is the sort of thing many people see, so don't be concerned.
One cause of much bigger size than expected is that, as well as the programs themselves, there are also the information used to install and update.

  • My MacBook Pro crashed and  need the files on my hard drive, but I only have a Windows PC. How can I get then out?

I got my MacBook Pro in 2004.
Over the years, I have put many files in it.
And now that it crashed, I need help to get then back.
The only problem is that I don't have another Mac, only a pc..
    Please help...

    Hi H,
The first MBP was produced in 2006, so you either don't have a MBP or it's from 2006 or later.
    You have no backup?
    What "crashed?"
If the HD is good, you can put it in an external enclosure and access it with a Mac from there.

  • Flash keeps crashing and now its saying data execution prevention has closed adobe flash player

Flash has always given me alot of problems. adobe flash would ocassionaly crash through out the day. i usual refresh the page and its all good for a little while. but now its closing/crashing on every single page im going to. its also saying 'to help protect your computer, data execution prevention has closed adobe flash player'. i was using 11.9 r900. with all the problems i tried downloading the newer 12.0 r0. its made no difference.
My computer is Windows vista 32 bit
    i use firefox
problem originaly affected pages with videos on it but now its effecting every single page i open and i get tons of pop ups and alerts saying crashed, closed, stopped working.
what can i do to stop this problem?

DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is Windows "protecting you from yourself".
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Change-Data-Execution-Prevention-settings?Sign edIn=1
The options to disable it are there... but "only if you trust yourself not to blow up the whole Internet" (sarcasm).

  • PP crashed and now project file is blank despite autosave being active.

I recently downloaded Premier Pro CC and love it so have got round to editing some footage I took over the summer.
I am a few hours into editing a project when PP crashed, I dragged the 'warp stabilizer' effect onto a short clip (4 seconds) and the windows loading cursor popped up, then it said 'not responding' on the window title bar. It stayed like that for about an hour so I closed PP by clicking the 'X' and then clicking 'close program' when the dialogue box popped up.
Now when I go to open my project file up it just opens a completely blank project. Autosave was active and it popped up many times while editing this project, most recently about 10 minutes before PP crashed.
Any idea why the autosave doesn't seem to have worked? Do I have to do anything special to access a separate autosave file or something?

Sorry for being a complete dunce, I have just done a quick google and found out how to access the autosave files and I have now got the project back minus the last 10 minutes of work.
