IDVD crashes while writing
So lately my IDVD program has been crashing while it writes whatever asset I've assigned to it. It goes through the encoding video/audio just fine, and it'll start writing, but before it manages to finish writing, or it gets to the Writing lead-out stage, it'll suddenly crash and that box will pop up and say, "iDVD quit unexpectedly".
I have been keeping my GBs above 25, so that's not the problem. Is there anything else I should do, or try?
Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
iDVD updated ?
Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets

USB Drive not working since G5 crashed while writing to it
I was using my external hard drive to back up on, as usual. However, my G5 crashed while writing to the drive. And it hasn't worked ever since.
I have tried using the disk repair utility to re-partition the drive. But the progress bar goes to 2% and stays there, ie it starts trying to partition the drive and then literally sticks there.
The same thing happens on windows by the way. However, there is a utility from Maxtor which tests the drive and says it's physically fine.
Diskwarrior wasn't able to even recognise that the drive was there (yes it is plugged in! ;-p)
Hmmm... is there anything else I can try to get the drive formatted?
Cheers
AlanBy the way, I've tried to use Disk Warrior but it doesn't even recognise the drive as something it can test. Only the main hard drive comes up in the drop down list...

IDVD crashes while rendering menus
I have 9 menus, 17 movies, using a double layer DVD. Bought this macbook pro less than a year ago. Any suggestions? When I bought the mac from the apple store I was not given an install disc, and the genius at the counter had no idea why it crashes

If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Disconnect all external hard disks and try - FireWire, USB/2, AirPort or Net-work connected.
To work OK I prefer FireWire AND it must be Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - WILL NOT DO for video - neither for iMovie or FinalCut or iDVD any version ! This also includes any USB-memory sticks.

Organizer crashed while writing metadata, now catalog isn't up-to-date
I have been tagging faces, moving tags around and changing dates on scanned photos in my 40K photo library. I was all finished organizing everything, and then asked PSE11 to write the metadata to files (ironically, to avoid losing all of my weeks of work). The organizer crashed while doing this, and when I reopened my catalog, it did not have much of the information I had spent so much time organizing. I'm not sure when it stopped saving changes, but it was at least a couple of days ago. My files all appear ok, but the database file is not up-to-date. I decided to make a copy of the database file so that I would have it just in case anything else happens while I try to figure out this mess, but the location found under Help>System Info doesn't even exist! I have 2 questions:
Is there any way to get back the 10+ hours of tagging and reorganizing work I put in; and
How can I find out where the catalog file is so that I can make a copy for safe-keeping? Currently the System Info says it should be here: /Users/my user name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Elements Organizer/Catalogs/My Catalog 1/
I am on a mac running Mavericks. I already went into my Time Machine backup to find a previous version of the catalog, but no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Victoria please also see Creative Cloud AAM lists Applications as "Up to Date" when not installed - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.html.

IDVD quits while writing lead in showing 3 minutes left
Start to burn disk and audio and video starts but as soon as it gets to "writing lead-in" it shows 3 minutes remaing. Progress bar stops moving. Drive ejects disk before it's done burning.
Using iDVD 7.1.2
Doing a Share to iDVD from iMovie 11.
Used Memorex dvd-r and Verbatim dvd-r with same results.
Made disk image that appears to be ok.
Is this proving to be bad DVD disk or is this something internal? Thanks for the info.
I set burn to 4 x and best quality. Also used a more generic brand of DVD.
Combined it seemed to work.
I found out through an outside source that the coating on maxells wont work with older super drives.
The Verbatim didn't work either. It may have not worked because I bought the ones that are printed to look like vintage super 8 film reel. That extra layer of ink and coating may be part of the problem.
I got some generic office max dvd's. Worked fine. -
My N73 crashed while writing a txt an now I got no...
During my txting frenzy with my friend tonight my phone crashed for the first time (i've only had the phone for a day) and when I went to the home screen, my 3 network ads are gone! I've reset the phone display settings an obviously it didn't do anything, an now I haven't a clue what to do! It's real late at night an I am hoping for some answers like asap rather than having to call 3 again for the hundreth time this weekend.
I don't want to reset my phone completely incase it doesn't let me use the phone at all let alone have the ads gone on my phone. I find the ads useful. I miss them!
Anyone know how to get them back? So annoyed right now!
Hope someone can help! Thanks!Hello Kpeters123,

Was writing post, as part of sharing article from my newsfeed. While writing, Facebook timed out. Display cleared. App recycled and returned to newsfeed. This has happened previously and for all purposes, the original post, since it had never been "loaded" onto FB servers effectively was deleted from iPad memory. That appeared to be the case yesterday; as I was able to continue reading, sharing and commenting on other articles.
Later, as I was shutting iPad down for the night, scrolled through open Apps and discovered the original FB window was still "open" I'd apparently been working on a 2nd or mirror version of the app. Attempting to access the original page; it opens, but I am unable to "interact" with the display/app, pressing "cancel" on my original post has no effect. Within 5-6 seconds FB crashes.
I power failed the iPad, left it over night and today am encountering the same problem. Tapping FB icon, brings up the post that was timed out. It displays for 2-3 seconds max, then original article and partial post disappear. Newsfeed appears to be loading as that and contact columns are visible in light font indicating they are preparing to load. 2-3 seconds, that vanishes. Am left with blue header band, spinning wheel indicating it is trying to communicate or process something. 2-3 seconds and then screen goes black and I'm returned to my app desktop.
If I immediately tap icon to reopen I get white screen, with blue header band. 2-3 seconds, black screen, back to app desktop. If I wait 2 minutes, I get the full shared article, partial post as described above. I've confirmed in the problem log that this is failing in Thread 0 and showing up as system crash.
Based on feedback to somewhat similar FB problem I found in forum; in addition to doing power fail. I also did warm reboot (Home and Sleep keys) in hope app would reboot along with ios. No change.
At this point, I'm assuming my only viable option is to delete the app and reinstall it from App Store. Easy enough to accomplish. But wanted to see if there were any other recommendations, or whether anyone else has experienced a similar failure with FaceBook.

IDVD 7.0.4 crashes while burning disc/image
When I try to 'burn' my project to disk or 'save as image' iDVD 7.0.4 crashes without any warnings after rendering the menues right at the beginning of the video render.
Main video in project is AIC (758x592, Quality: middle, Progressiv/Linear PCM, 48 kHz, 16 Bit) exported by iMovie'09 with some chapter markers and video-enhancement as recommended in the forum for best quality and then imported into iDVD.
Earlier project shared to iDVD directly from iMovie burned without problems. Can the codec be the issue? Dropzones use certain parts of the same videofile and they render without problems, I can see them completed in the iDVD-project-package.
Additional questions:
1. why is the file exported with iMovie that large (also with successful project; eg.: orig. file 3, 98 GB, exported file 11,95 GB)? (chapter markers and video-enhancement for the whole file?) Makes archiving a trouble.
2. is there a way to replace the main video in the iDVD-project without distroying the manual menu-/text-/... edits (more titles on one menu, etc.) I made earlier? When I import a whole new videofile in another format (for testing the codec issue), iDVD takes the chapters once more and creates the template-conform menues again, partly overlaying my older ones.Just to offer condolences. I have been greatly disappointed in iDVD -- crashes more often than burns successfully. Lots of wasted time waiting for a burn to be successful, only to find toward the end of the process, I get a msg "rendering" a problem, or couldn't complete, or crashes and then I have to stand on my head to get the DVD to eject. Have the issue both with movies I've downloaded to iPhoto and with photos downloaded to iPhoto that I've turned into Slideshows. Wish I had awnsers for both of us -- or however many of us that are out there....

Jvm 1.5.0_06 crashing while used in tomcat as service
ANyone ever seen this one.
JVM crashes while used by tomcat as service. The crash occurs randomly. In this case while writing an index for lucene. Lucene is used within our jackrabbit application. This crash caused the index en thus the data in jackrabbit to become corrupt. All content of repository was therefor useless.
Tomcat 5.5.17 is installed on a windows 2003 server.
Does anyone know the cause of this crash. See hs_errpidx.og file below

+130 GB free disk space+ - referes to the internal boot hard disk or external one ?
iDVD can only use the boot drive for it's scratch files - other hard disks of no interest.
Else
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

Idvd crashes when I open Magic DVD
Hi All - am new to Macs.
I have a new Mac Book Pro (released 2011 15" version 10.6.8 2Ghz Intel Core i7 and 4 GB Ram)
and everytime I open the Magic DVD option in iDVD - the whole program crashes.
This is a new Mac and I'm pretty dissapointed that the program doesn't work properly
The program also doesn't work when I try to create a DVD of short TV episodes - I just get a green screen.
Do I need to reinstall this program? If so what is the best way to go about it.
Cheers
SHi

If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
iDVD updated ?
Apple Codec updated ?
Start iDVD while KEEPING alt-key down during up-start and start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions
EdinSF writes that, The 10.6.3 update with an Open GL fix seems to have taken care of the problem.

hi,
as part of my requirement , i have to perform read and write operations of few files [ using the file upload control in my custom visual web part] and on submit button click.
but while writing these files - with the help of fileupload control - and when i use myfileupload.saveas(mylocation);
- i am saving these files into my D:\ drive of my server , where i am executing my code -, am getting access denied error.
it throws system.unauthorizedexception.
i have given full control on that folder where i was trying to store my attached files. and also after following asp.net forums,
i have added iusr group added and performed all those steps such that, the file is saved in my D:\ drive.
but unfortunately that didnt happen.
also
a) i am trying the code with runwithelevatedprivileges(delegate() ) code
b) shared the drive within the d :drive where i want o save the files.
c) given the full privieleges for the app pool identity- in my case , its
network service.
the other strange thing is that, the same code works perfectly in other machine, where the same sp, vs 2012 etc were installed .
would like to know, any other changes/ steps i need to make it on this server, where i am getting the error.
help is appreciated!vishnuS1984 wrote:
Hi Friends,
I have gone through scores of examples and i am failing to understand the right thing to be done to copy a file from one directory to another. Here is my class...So let's see... C:\GetMe1 is a directory on your machine, right? And this is what you are doing with that directory:
public static void copyFiles(File src, File dest) throws IOException
// dest is a 'File' object but represents the C:\GetMe1 directory, right?
fout = new FileOutputStream (dest); If it's a directory, where in your code are you appending the source file name to the path, before trying to open an output stream on it? You're not.
BTW, this is awful:
catch (IOException e)
IOException wrapper = new IOException("copyFiles: Unable to copy file: " +
src.getAbsolutePath() + "to" + dest.getAbsolutePath()+".");
wrapper.initCause(e);
wrapper.setStackTrace(e.getStackTrace());
throw wrapper;
}1) You're hiding the original IOException and replacing it with your own? For what good purpose?
2) Even if you had a good reason to do that, this would be simpler and better:
throw new IOException("your custom message goes here", e);
rather than explicitly invokign initCause and setStackTrace. Yuck! -

>gpu[0].DriverDate="20130829000000.000000-000"
It's possible a newer driver may help. Visit nVidia.com to facilitate downloading/installing their latest release.
That said, I've also found Photoshop can get flakey once you start working on 3D stuff. I've had amazing, long sessions where it just worked, and I've had others where it just wouldn't cooperate - doing exactly the same things.
It's then that you start to appreciate the auto-save in the background, but even then once in a while it doesn't auto-recover, so you want to save your work in multiple master files fairly often.
I think the latest version (14.1.2) seems about the most stable for 3D work so far.
