IDVD cuts sides off imported PAL DV file when burnt to DVD

Hi,
I have been struggling to solve a problem with burning a DVD over the last few days. I have created a slideshow in a programme called Photo to Movie and have then exported the movie as a .MOV file at 720 x 576 resolution (PAL DV) into iDVD. All goes well, and I then add an introduction and burn it to DVD. When it has finished, I view the DVD in my IMac and it appears fine. But when I go to use it in a DVD player (I have tried several, with several different televisions) it cuts about a centimeter off the sides and top (so it doesn't show the whole photo). But it only cuts this off the imported movie, not off the introduction that I created in iDVD. Obviously I have tried changing the tv setting to 4:3, smart, widescreen, etc. It still has the image appearing cut off.
My settings in iDVD are video mode set to PAL, Aspect Ratio set to Widescreen (I have also tried setting it to 4:3 and it does the same thing after the DVD is burnt and shown on a television), Best Quality.
So I really don't have a clue what to do now. I mean, if the file has exported ok as a Quicktime MOV and is the correct size for PAL DV (720 x 576) when inserted into iDVD then there should be no problems, I would have thought. Also, it appears ok on a computer.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm pulling my hair out here (and I don't have a lot left to pull out). Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Imported PAL VOB files are misinterpreted as 540 pixels high

I'm trying to import PAL VOB files into an FCP 5.0.4 sequence and though the import and playback goes well, the files are wrongly reported as being 720x540 instead of 720x576, leaving me with unusable footage because the interlaced PAL video is rendered with horizontal stripes of alternating interlaced/fused fields.
The only way to restore some degree of quality to the footage is to apply an anti-flicker filter at maximum strength, but it's a crummy solution considering the video height should have been properly interpreted in the first place.
Could someone please tell me how I can import these vob files with their proper dimensions?
    Thanks for any help.

    download MPEG Streamclip
open the vob file in MPEG streamclip and use File > Export to Quicktime to convert it to DV PAL (or whatever codec you are using)
    Compressor: Apple DV PAL
    Quality: 85% (or higher)
    Sound: Uncompressed
    Frame Size: 720 X 576 (DV-PAL)
    Field Dominance: Lower Field First
then click the "Make Movie: button

  • Aperture does not import Nikon JPG files when RAW and JPG

I own a Nikon D2x that I download files to a Sony 40GB portable HD. When I shoot in RAW + JPG only the RAW file is imported when I connect the Sony HD to my Mac and import to Aperture.
If I open the Sony disk Icon on the Desktop, I can see both the RAW and the JPG. In fact I can finder copy both files to the Desktop with no problem.
Even when I connect the camera itself, the jpg files are not imported.
This makes me think I should just shoot in RAW and save the space on the memory card.
Why does Aperture not import the JPG files?

it does import them ... but only displays the RAW file ... if you drill down into the library package you will see them ...

  • Photoshop CC will not import any video files when I try Video Frame to Layers and New Video Layer from File

Specifically I'm trying to import a .MOV I made in Quicktime. The file opens up everywhere else so it's not an issue with the file being corrupted. The error message I get from CC is
"Could not complete command _____________ because the video file could not be opened."
As far as I know I didn't save the .MOV with any permissions, but then again I have very limitted understanding of Quicktime. Originally the file was a .GIF that I converted to an .MOV because I wanted to edit the GIF using the video timeline instead of the animation timeline.
    Thanks for the help.
Also, as an aside since I know a lot of Adobe employees are on here, the animation timeline is pretty crummy, there should be a way that you can open a .GIF into the video timeline as a video layer.

Did the back and forth between PC and Mac file systems screw up my files somehow?
Yes. Unfortunately the move has almost certainly caused the loss of the resource data that would have been (invisibly) attached to those files.
By adding a specific .mov extension after the fact you will have helped the Mac correctly identify the file type / asscoiations but also significantly you will have physically changed the filename eg from "clip" to "clip.mov". This means that when you come to reconnect the media in FCP , then FCP will be looking for files that no longer exist at the given path eg when specifically looking for our example clip called "clip" of course it won't find it.
Try this as a test... first remove the ".mov" extension from one or more of the clips, select those clips and press Cmd-Opt-I to open an Info window for the selection. You'll see an "Open with:" popup and in that popup you should choose QuickTime Player (if its a Unix Executable then it will initially list Terminal as the appropriate app, you have to choose Other... then in the open dialog choose Enable > All Applications and then navigate to and select the Quicktime Player app as the appropriate app). After you've done that restart FCP and see if you can now reconnect to those clips.

  • Final Cut 5 - Won't recognize video files when I try to reconnect media

Help! Somehow FCP5 no longer recognizes my clips as video files.
The problem started when I transferred some clips to another drive so I could reformat my primary external drive. (It's new, and had been formatted for PC, and I felt I needed to reformat it for Mac.) I moved the files off the drive using my PC, held them on another external PC-formatted drive, then used MacDrive 7 to put them back once the formatting was done.
When I plugged the newly formatted drive back in, my Mac no longer recognized the files as video files because the file extension had been removed... It thought they were "Unix executable files." I added ".mov" to the end of the file names and they then seemed to work fine in QuickTime.
But FCP will not recognize them now... At first, when I try to "reconnect media," they are grayed out; when I select "All files" in the Reconnect Media dialog and they appear to be available. But when I choose one nothing happens and it goes back to the Reconnect Media dialog.

  • HT1473 Why won't iTunes import my WMA files when I add a folder?

I had been using iTunes on a Windows 7 machine, and it would import WMA files with no problem.  I decided to move to iTunes on my MacBook Pro, and iTunes will only import the files that are already in mp3 format.  It just ignores the files that are in WMA format.

The Mac version of iTunes doesn't convert WMA files. Use a third party tool or convert them on a Windows system.

  • Lightoom 5.7 not importing ALL jpeg files when importing

Hello, I am repeatedly having issues with Lightroom 5.7 64 bit on Win 7 computer on the import option from a file on hard drive. The file has 40 pictures, mostly all jpeg...and after the import - add function, only about 20 are imported. I have tried this multiple times and it still happens. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is an option in the Lightroom preferences to treat JPEG's next to raw images as separate images. If that option isn't checked, and some of your images are raw files, the raw files will be imported but the JPEG images will not. So check to make sure you have that option activated.

  • HT3847 Where did our files go, all of our history and imported and urchased files, when the 11.02 upgrade came in? Why is our library now empty?

We imported our itunes from an older imac. After the newest itunes upgrade,, all of our old files are gone. They are not showing in the libary.

    OB:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Does you backup copy of your V4 library contain all of your photos? That is have you added any to the new library that's giving you trouble? If not then try the following:
1 - copy your backup library folder to your HD and name it something like "Primary Library" and put it in your Pictures folder.
2 - download and run BatChmod on the Primary Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
3 - launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select the Find library option.
4 - navigate to the Pictures folder and select the Primary Library folder.
Then you'll go thru the upgrade process again. See if that won't get you thru it OK.
If albums are lost the pictures will still be in the main library.

  • An not import an export file when has cross-schema partition by reference

I'm working on a complex system with about 200 tables stored in *5 schemas* on Oracle 11.2.0.2 (database is installed on a Redhat Linux).
There are lots of partitioned tables, and some are partition by reference, and some of the partition by references are partitioned on cross-schema references (the referenced partitioned table and the table which is partitioned by reference are in 2 different schemas).
When exporting these 5 partitions using data-pump everything goes fine, but I could not find a way to import it in another database without errors. And the problem is on creating tables which are partitioned by cross-schema references, and I get an Insufficient Privilege error.
It seems that the impdp first creates all the tables, and then apply the grants (including references grant) and that causes the problem. If it applied grant statements of each table after creating that table there would be no problem.
Is there any way I can overcome this problem?

  • PDF file not readable when burnt on DVD as an additional asset

I have made a disc image of a DVD I want to burn multiple copies of. I have included a PDF asset on the DVD. When I burn the DVD using Disk Utility the DVD burns satisfactorily. However, when I attempt to open the .pdf file, I get the following message: The file “File_name.pdf” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize.
I can't seem to get the .pdf to burn on the DVD properly. Any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Try changing the file name of the pdf. If that doesn't resolve the issue then you may have a corrupted file. That or the machine you are using to open said file may need to be updated via apple's software updater.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • How to include non-photo text files when burning a DVD-RW

I'm using Photoshop Elements 3.0.1 on Windows XP Service Pack 2.
I want to include a couple of text (TXT) files on a DVD-RW disc that I'm going to burn my photos to. The text files will contain a chronicle of the trip on which I took the photos.
I can't figure out how to get Photoshop Elements (PSE) to let me include these text files. Is there a way to do that in PSE? It seems to only allow you to work with photo files.
As a work-around, I tried first burning the text files to the disc using Nero and not finalizing the disc. I then tried to use PSE's burn command to add the photos, but PSE objected that the disc was not empty and asked me if I wanted to erase its contents. When I said "No", it asked me to insert a different disc. So apparently PSE will only work with an empty disc or a partially-full disc that you are willing to erase first.
    Help!
    Thanks.
    Steve Westfall

    Ward,
I didn't try burning the photos first and then burning the text files with Nero, because I read elsewhere in the forum that PSE has the nasty habit of always finalizing the disc when it finishes its burning session, which means you couldn't add anything to it in a subsequent burning session. However, I haven't verified that. I'll have to try it.
The work-around that I finally came up with and successfully used was basically your second option. I used the export command to export the pictures that I want to a directory, and then used Nero to burn those pictures and anything else I want to the disc.
Still, it seems like there ought to be a way to get PSE to include files other than photos.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Importing audio voice file changes the pitch in Logic Express

I noticed something weird with my Logic Express 7. When I import an audio voice file. The pitch seems to be lower in Logic when I play the file than compared to the original file. Does anyone know what could be causing the pitch change? I though I was going crazy, but something is definitely change the pitch when I import an audio file.

Sounds as if you used Microsoft software to make a PDF. If so, and you didn't use Adobe Acrobat ($$), then you need to get help with Publisher -- Adobe Reader only shows what you make.
