IDVD do not start

When I click on iDVD icon, it says "You cannot use this version of the application iDVD.app with this version of Mac OS X.". I have OS X 10.5.7. I downloadedd iDVD 5 update but it did not solve the problem. Can someone help me out? I would really appreciate it!
Thank you

HI! Appreciate some help. I just realized my IDVD 5 will not work with OS X.5. I have read through the post of others having the same problems about IDVD 5 not running with OS 10.5., but I am not clear about the solution.
Do I need to buy a new Ilife suite or can I just download iDVD 6 from here
http://support.apple.com/downloads/iDVD6_04
and it should solve my problem?
Appreciate any help to solve this problem. Thanks.

  • IDVD will not start

I recently upgraded to iLife 08 and iDVD will not start. Sometimes it will ask me what kind of project I would like and sometimes it even lets me name it and specify the files location, but then it just crashes. I deleted the themes as per Apple's instructions, but this had no effect. I also attempted to re-install the software. Same result. Help!

Problem solved. I found the solution posted by Frizzonk at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1087028&tstart=15
I had to delete the entire installed themes folder but then iDVD worked. Thanks for the support folks.

  • IDVD does not start

With the launching of iDVD6, the loading of the topics the programe stop.
I am obliged to force to leave (iDVD does not answer any more)
    Have you a sollution
Thank you and excuse me for the bad language I am French

    Hi N
iDVD takes a while to start up.
How do you know that iDVD doesn't answer any more ? Using activity monitor ?
Well Activity monitor isn't to rely on in all circumstances. When rendering in
iMovie and coding in iDVD it indicates that either of them is not answering but
they are running as normal as ever. Just wait.
If iDVD doesn't start up the most common origin is that the user has installed
new programs but not run "repair permissions" with Apple Util tool.
As no:2 I would locate iDVD pref file and move it to desktop Then restart iDVD.
Still not working: I would start a new account, logg-out of this-one and into
the new one (it forces Mac OS to create several new pref files).
    Now it should run.
What Mac are You using, processor, speed, RAM, free space on hard disk,
Mac OS version, iDVD version and QT version ?

  • IDVD Icon does not appear in the dock and iDVD does not start.

I have been trying to solve the above problem. I have archived and installed OSX upto 10.4.9 and reinstalled iLife 06 and have had no success in getting iDVD to run. All I see in the dock is an icon saying "application".
Would welcome some suggestions - will I have do a total reinstall? Hope not.
    Many thanks.

    Welcome to the forums.
If you go to the Applications folder, what happens if you try to start iDVD directly? Your Quicktime also needs to be updated to be compatible with iLife6 (beware though that you'll lose your Pro capabilities if you're jumping from QT6 to 7).

  • IDVD will not start properly and subsequently crashes

I have installed iDVD '09 on my Mac Pro (Early 2008), as well as my Mac Book Pro. When I attempt to open iDVD on EITHER machine it can not get beyond "loading themes" before it crashes. I have gone so far as to completing a new install of iLife '09, but this doesn't help my startup problem. Any recommendations?

Have you trashed iDVD's preference file?
    Close iDVD.
Go to your Home folder (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. Don't worry, iDVD will create a new fresh one when you reopen it.
Relaunch iDVD and see if it works this time.

  • IDVD is not starting - only bounces once

I have reinstalled iLife 06 and all other programs work except that iDVD only bounces once when clicked. I need to burn a DVD from iMovie asap and it won't load. I do have enough HD memory when I reinstalled. Help Please.

Search for "com.apple.iDVD.plist" -your iDVD preference file - and delete it.
Repair disk permissions on your startup drive with Disk Utility, in your applications folder.
    Then try again.

  • One Step iDVD does  not start

I am using a Sony Digital 8 Handycam DCR-TRV530. I can't get the One Step iDVD function to work. I am using a Pioneer DVR-XD10 DVD/CD writer. The camera is also directly connected by Firewire to the computer. I click on the drop down menu and click on the One Step IDVD function and nothing happens. The camera is supposed to rewind and begin playing the tape while in VCR mode but nothing happens. I don't think the camera is at fault but I'm open to any suggestions.

Yes, I did. To be more exact, however, the camera detects if you are using Hi-8 tape and will automatically begin recording in digital format. What is weird, though, is that about 20 minutes after posting my message the One Step iDVD process began working as expected.
Thanks for your response! Greatly appreciated.

  • IDVD not starting

iMac purchased in August '07, just updated to Leopard. My iDVD will not start. Attempts to relaunch, ignore or whatever will not start it. What do I do??

Have you run Software Update to update your computer's apps?
This frequently helps solve some problems. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • IDVD burned disk does not start at main menu

The IDVD burned disk starts randomly in the middle of the disk. Cannot access the main menu. I started with an IMovie with chapter headings, videos and pictures. Then shared it with IDVD, created themes, music, changed the headers, etc. Burned the disk using the File Burn DVD command. The disk takes over 1 1/2 hours (IMovie orginal is 15 minutes) to burn.

Hello to all of you first-timers here!
    Welcome to the discussions.
First, are you using iMovie 9?
Did you set chapter markers in iMovie? Did you follow the Chaper Marker Rules?
RULES: No marker at the beginning of your movie, no markers within 2 seconds of the beginning or end of the movie, and no markers on or within 2 seconds of your movie.
Next, did you put your movie in iDVD and then go make any changes to it? Sometimes that causes the chapters to default to the same spot in the movie. The only solution is to recreate the iDVD project.
You should first try deleting iDVD's preference file. You can find this by closing iDVD, going to your Home file (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new one when you relaunch it.
    Reopen iDVD.
Try creating the disk image file again or burning a disk again.
If that results in the same problem, create a new iDVD project. Then, drag in the iMovie project from the Media/Movies pane in iDVD instead of sharing it from iDVD.
Post back if that does not resolve the issue.

  • IDVD does not respond & freezes

I have tried deleting the .com.apple.iDVD.plist and then iDVD works fine. problem is when i save a project and try to open it the .com.apple.iDVD.plist file comes back and the little loading ball appears and I have to force quit iDVD. Also I have tried doing the Disk "Utility and that does not help.& yes I have gotten the software update. And no, I can't re-install it because it came with my Macbook Pro. How do I fix this?

    Hi
Force quitting - No good strategy - at all.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named: com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.

  • Idvd does not launch

iDVD will not launch for some reason. I'm just getting the bouncing icon in the dock. It was working fine and it allowed me to burn a few dvds but not it won't start up at all. I click on the application icon and all i get is the top idvd menu and the color wheel (hour glass). They actual program won't run and the only way to stop it is to force quit :-(  I am using iDVD verison 7.1.2 ... i normally would uninstall and reinstall but my imac didn't come with the disk. Please help

    Hi
Most probably there was something in last iDVD project that iDVD can not handle e.g. strange Video Codec or Audio file format or Photo file format. So try to start iDVD so that it makes a brand new project and put in one piece at a time - then Save as a DiskImage to test to see that all is OK.
    • To start iDVD so that it has to create a new project. Click on iDVD icon WHILE KEEPING alt-key down during up-start. Then Start a new project.

  • Idvd does not burn dvd

idvd does not burn project to dvd

You're going to give us a lot more information that that.
What version of iDVD do you have?
What happens when you try to burn the iDVD project?
    Any messages or warnings?
What type of content do you have, i.e. movies, photos for slideshows?
What brand of DVD disk are your using?
If you get to the point of starting a burn what speed do you select.

  • My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen

Like it says in the title...My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen.
Here is the process that I have been doing.
    1. put in a blank disk and with the project already being done, i hit burn (not too hard).
    2. iDvd then starts to encode the title.
    3. After the title has been encoded, the burning stops and a message comes up saying "there was an error during encoding" and when ever I try to burn the same message keeps on coming up.
    I am running version 7.0.4
any help would be extremely helpful

    Try using this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Then you can concentrate on the content if you can't create a disk image of the project.

  • Why does my 7.0 iDVD theme not have sound playing in the menu?

Why does my 7.0 iDVD theme not have sound playing in the menu?  When I click to get menu info, the "TravelAudio" audio is listed, but it won't play.  The volume is not the issue, it just isn't there.

    Hi
First of all - I would try to trash the iDVD pref file (or rather start a new User-account and log into this and re-try).
