IDVD does crash when encoding audio
I have been reading a large number of posts regarding iDVD freezing, having a spinning beachball, and hanging while encoding audio. I have not been able to find a post where it discusses the crashing/unexpected quitting of iDVD. I have tried a couple of times to get the burning process started, as I thought it may have been a small glitch, but to no avail.
Should I follow the steps marked out in:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=335417&tstart=30
I usually complete the final process of iDVD with all Energy Saving and Screen Saver preferences set to "Never". I usually would delete encoded assets, but I did not have time before I went to work to try a third time.
This is the first time it has happened to me and I have completed about three projects successfully since updating to iDVD 6.0
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

SUCCESS (But it took a while!)
When I arrived home form work, the first thing I did was to remove Flip4Mac using its uninstaller. This had no effect. iDVD still crashed bringing up the crash report dialogue box.
So I followed the instructions from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=335417&tstart=30
I also repaired permissions (nothing to report there) and deleted encoded assests. Finally, I replayed my DVD project in the iDVD's preview/test section. The audio was out with the video. For some strange reason, my brain told me that the syncing between audio and video was the main thing to blame. So, I had a quick think and decided to remove all the fade ins and fade outs from my original iMovie project, remove all chapter markers, save the project, replace the chapter markers and then open the original iDVD file shared from this iMovie project. Then, clicked OK to update file to match, deleted encoded assests.
I do not know which part worked for me, but I woke this morning with a completed DVD (which is still to be tested in a DVD player).
Thanks for all the assistance and advice, I'll keep this post unresolved in case someone else has a full crash of iDVD.
Rodger GW
PS I think Apple are a little sick of seeing my crash report coming through with the answer to "What were you doing when the application crashed?" being "Just trying to encode audio!!"

Idvd keeps crashing when i try to burn my dvd
Idvd keeps crashing when i try to burn my dvd. im wondering if it is my disk. im usuing a sony DVD R with 4.7GB of data. My full movie is about 7 mins.
I have plenty of empty space on my computer and i have just updated it to OS X Mountain Lion. Thanks, Old Toad. I had never even heard of Console until now, and indeed the crash is reported... but it's all gibberish to me... way over my head. Here is the report... if you can make any sense out of it, I'd be grateful for your insight...

Premiere Pro CS5 crash when adjusting audio gain
Premiere Pro CS5 crash when adjusting audio gain
The same on another workstations.
Have any idea?Hi Dennis,
I just had a go and can reproduce the problem straight away too.
Created a new project then a new XDCAM EX 1080p25 sequence. Imported a short Sony PMW-350 clip. Dragging it straight to the timeline and then setting audio gain is OK (Source channel mapping preferences set to mono).
However, if I Modify - Audio Channels and then set track format as stereo or mono as stereo and then drag the clip to the timeline and right click - gain, Premiere crashes about 1/2 to 1 second after the audio gain dialogue box appears. Error log below if it's useful.
Asus Rampage III extreme
Intel i7 980x @ 3.33GHz
24Gb ram
Windows 7 64 bit
Using onboard sound - Realtek HD 6.0.1.6037
Incidentally, I tried with both the default Windows 7 audio drivers and then the Realtek HD drivers installed (I'd previously forgotten to install the Realtek driver when I built the PC)

IDvd crashes when encoding movies
It happened two times now.... i created menu, it encoded with no problem.
Then movie almost encoded but by the end iDVD just crashes with no error sign or nothing :S
This is second time i've tried, and it takes really long time to encode a movie, about 2.5 hours. Movie is .avi. Anyone knows what a problem might be?I have a similar problem. I'm running iDVD 06(part of iLife 06) on a G4 iMac with Tiger. I created a DVD using iDVD about a year ago, no problem. And I've been able to burn CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs successfully to back sstuff up, etc. However, when I tried to burn a DVD with iDVD, the software renders, then crashes the whole computer.
It does the same thing when I try to Save as Disc Image: renders and encodes, then crashes.
I cleared over 10 GB of hard disc space, so that's not the issue. But it happens every time.
I have also been able to burn CDs and archives on DVDs since I started having this problem.
I can't tell if this is a problem with the drive or the software. I don't think it's the drive, because the same thing happens when I save a disc image, and because I can use the drive for other things. On the other hand, I have tried re-installing both Tiger and iDVD from the original disks, to no avail.
Any ideas? -
IDVD stops responding when encoding the audio of a project
I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion I can try to solve an iDVD burn problem? My project is 4.7 GB and I am burning it to an external DL burner using an 8.5 GB disk. The available space on my hard disk is 12.96 GB. I created the video in iMovie HD 5.0.2 and exported it to iDVD 5.0.1. When I go to burn the disk, the first 3 hours go great, and the burn icon continues to rotate. After the video is encoded, the status pane says "encoding audio", the burn icon stops rotating, and the iDVD program says 'not responding', so I end up force-quitting out of iDVD, with no disk created. After the first 3 times, this got pretty frustrating, as you can imagine!
I have some iTunes purchased music as part of my project, but, since I've done that before and it has worked, I didn't think that was the hang-up. I wondered if it could be a problem with the iDVD program in that I've exceeded the 4.0 GB listed in the status pane, but I read in the manual that the size of my project is limited only by the size of my dvd. Could that be wrong?
Thanks for any help you can suggest! Thanks, Klaus, you were right on the money! I gave it so much more time, didn't quit out of iDVD, and it finally burned. Boy, was it ever frustrating!! I wish I played golf just to pass the time. I had actually hit the 'burn' icon again, just out of frustration, and, while that probably didn't do anything, it sure felt good! Moments later, the burn completed. Total time for a 60 minute project to burn was 4 hours. Wow!
I really appreciate your help! I may not be able to mark this question as answered, since I'm having account trouble here and can't seem to get this site to recognize the account/password I originally set up, but you sure answered my question.
Thanks again!

IDVD freezes when encoding audio
Whenever the project is done encoding the video, it freezes right when it gets to the encoding audio process.
for over 10 hours
New info...
I would suggest Sharing as QuickTime Full Quality and drag that file into a new iDVD project, then create a disk image and then burn. If you have chapter markers, they will be lost. Import that file into a new iMovie project, add chapter markers, send to (new) iDVD project.
File/Save as Disc Image...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/18.html
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

QT Player 7.0.2 crashes when encoding from MJPEG into H.264
Another interesting thing about QT 7.0.2 (first one was 10GB bug, check my earlier thread here) - it crashes when the user switches to another account and back while the QT Player encodes MJPEG video into H.264. How to reproduce this bug, step by step:
1) open any MJPEG video in QT Player 7.0.2, could be in MOV or in AVI, doesn't make difference which
2) do File->Export
3) choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie" in the "Export" drop-down menu
4) in the "Save exported file as" dialog go to Options->Video->Settings and set H.264 as your output video codec, encoding settings don't make a difference as well
5) close "Movie settings" dialog, then click "Save" in "Save exported file as" dialog
6) QT Player starts encoding your MJPEG video into H.264 video, the small "Progress" window appears with a progress bar inside
7) now switch to another user account using Fast User Switching feature of Windows XP
8) switch back to the account where QT Player was encoding your MJPEG video
9) observe the crash window - your QT Player has joined his ancestors now
Can anyone reproduce this? If yes, please post your crash dump here, so that I can send another bugreport to Apple (10GB bugreport is in the works now, almost done
If you follow all the steps above and your QT Player does NOT crash, please post the details about your system. My setup is QT Player Pro 7.0.2 and Windows XP Pro SP2. Also post the details about your MJPEG file - the codec you used to encode it (mine two codecs were Pegasus PicVideo 3 and Apple Motion JPEG A), and the resolution (mine was 720x480).when i said i couldn't do audio and video at the same time i meant that i cannot edit and process video and at the same time record or edit ADR, sound effects. i have an audio engineer in the audio room working on the audio while i work on the video. is that clear?
Yeah, now it sounds reasonable. You possibly could do that on a single computer using X Windows or Windows Terminal Server but it's totally different topic.
as for fast user switching...here's a comment from another forum... "just don't use fast user switching, it isn't implemented well and it breaks some programs"
"Don't use Windows, it isn't implemented well and doesn't run some poorly written MS-DOS games"
I found several others in that regard, but you know more about it so i don't need to post links, right? plus a lot of them dealt with quicktime, but again you are the expert.
If you found anything that's related to QuickTime crashes during account switching, you're welcome to post this concrete info here, it'll help with my bugreport.
and since you make the inference that i have a cheap system operating on ms-dos which is laughable because that means that you can't read.
I said that when I read about single-task computers this reminds me about MS-DOS times, but now it looks like it is not about your case, since you have two people working in parallel on two machines.
i looked up on Yahoo! the terms "mjpeg"+"crashes" and got 16,800 hits. plus i do recall on another forum someone was having problems with mjpeg and the responder said it wasn't a good codec to work with...
So what's the deal if 95% of these 16800 Yahoo posts are about crash in Premiere or Microsoft Movie Maker or some other buggy tool? You could even search for an f-word, and you'll find a lot of posts with that word, then you can make any conclusion you like about that word being so often cited and then we could start a lengthy discussion about it, but what's the point? I can find 10000 posts about "single task" + "bad" but I'd never use this to justify anything. I give you concrete facts from my experience, so please give me something concrete in return, not 16800 Yahoo posts about something out there.
"Disadvantages: There's also the problem of recompression. While the human eye can be fooled by JPEG's compression, computers aren't. Thus, when you compress from MJPEG into another format to use for distribution, you will receive a lower-quality picture than if you had a lossless source because there is data missing which, while it's not important to the visual cortex, is very important to a mathematical analysis of things such as color data. The only time you should use MJPEG otherwise is for fast-editing temporary files, but DON'T use them as your final source."
I know that already, thank you.
since you said i'm the one who suggested that you use uncompressed video and that doing so the computer doesn't crash...
You suggested that in a different thread about 10GB MJPEG limitation. That's another bug that may be or may be not related to the crash problem.
then why don't you work that way and finish your video?
Yes, I can employ this trick. I will do it if I'm forced to (i.e. if I absolutely have no other way to load MJPEG in QT Player and Apple refuses to fix that crash). However, I'll push Apple with fixing the issue at the same time. Maybe they'll work something out while I'm using uncompressed RGB workaround or some other workaround.
mjpeg is unstable in that regard so contact the codec manufacturer/developer and ask them why or give them the bug report because it's not apple
Unfortunately it is Apple, because it's the Apple's software that crashes. All the other codecs and video editors work fine, and there are even conditions when Apple doesn't crash, like loading uncompressed RGB. Since crash is inside QuickTime I will send my bugreport to Apple. If the crash had happened inside the MJPEG codec, I'd have sent the bugreport to -
Can't burn iMovie to iDVD (not responding) - after "Encoding Audio"
Hello,
I have a similar post in the iDVD board, but thought someone in this section may be able to help as well.
I have a 15 minutes project (almost 2 GB) iMovie show that I've attempted to burn to DVD through iDVD (4 times with the same problem)...
It goes through the "encoding menus" and videos, but gets stuck on "Encoding Audio" and in my Force Quit window says (Not Responding). I have almost 12 GB free on my PowerBook G4 and successfully burned a test DVD of this last week before completion (when I only had 7 free GB - I also added on another 2 minutes since then)...
Any help or ideas? I need to get this done ASAP...
Thanks
ChrisChris, what I've found is that patience is the key here. You really can't count on the progress bar to let you know how far along in the process you are. I've run into the same problem as you. When the burn symbol stops spinning and you get the beachball/lollipop don't rush right off to force quit. Just because the force quit menu shows that iDVD is NOT RESPONDING does not mean that all is lost. What made me realize that iDVD was still working was the Activity Monitor located in your Utilities folder under applications (applications/utilities/activity monitor).
Do yourself a favor and run this app while burning you project. When you get to the point where it appears to hang on you check the status of iDVD in the activity monitor window. More than likely it will show that iDVD is still using a good % of your CPU (%CPU column numbers will constantly change as iDVD demands more or less from your processor). You may also notice that it may show that iDVD is not responding (as well as a couple other processes that are related to the prog), this doesn't mean a thing because iDVD is in reality still chugging along. Of course if the %CPU column is showing 0.00 then iDVD has indeed stopped workin in which case you do have some issues.
Hope this helps -
Premiere Pro CC crashes when editing audio- any solutions?
Adobe Premiere Pro CC crashes nearly every time I try to edit audio, keyframe it in certain spots, etc, etc, with the error message that there has been an "unexpected problem" and the program must "force quit." Sometimes my work is saved, sometimes it isn't. And then I have to re-name my saved file, so I often end up with upwards of 15 different project files because I cannot edit audio without this program crashing. I see I'm not the only one--what is Adobe doing to fix this bug-riddled program? It's impossible to get anything done!
I'm using this program on a MAC, 6-Core Intel Xeon Processor. MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5.
I'm ready to lose my mind.I am having a very similar experience.....I have been working in Adobe Premiere Pro for well over 8 years and have always had issues with crashes when working with audio files, keyframing, transition placement, trimming and so on. I have had nightmares with some projects that I am having crashes every change I do and it seems once you get an issue with a project it only gets worst. I have worked on a number of different systems in regards to hardware and get the same issues, OS has been Windows 7 64bit for number of years. I would have expected Adobe to have been able to smooth this out by now but it just keeps rearing its ugly head when I`m on a deadline crunch.
I try to never work with Mp3s and always request wav but it doesn't seem to matter in the long run.
Just wanted to let you know you are not the only one and I am having a serous issue with this problem once again!
Please help Adobe....audio is an issue with Premiere Pro for a lot of us....thanks! -
Flash player crashes when adjusting audio volume
MacBook Pro, OS X Version 10.9.5
Safari internet browser, version 7.1
I am taking online classes via megameeting.com. When loading the classroom, flash works perfectly fine. However, as soon as I adjust the computer's audio volume (either by pressing the keyboard button or manually clicking and dragging the volume adjustment slider bar on my desktop), I immediately get a white screen with a gray "plugin failure" message.
I can run the same classroom simultaneously on the same computer utilizing google chrome, and flash does not crash on the chrome browser when I adjust the volume.
I followed the directions to perform a clean uninstall and reinstall (running Flash version 15), and I still have the same problem. My settings are set to allow internet plugins. So far, I have not detected this problem where adjusting the audio volume crashes flash on other websites. Any help?Hi Gboyaj,
I've reported this bug 2 weeks back but it seems adobe doen't takes it seriously. Because no response bij adobe yet.
So please vote for this bug!

Frequent crashes when exporting audio from mov
Hey, all. I do a lot of post audio work and must first convert my mov files to DV AVI. Video conversions work nearly 100% of the time, but I frequently get crashes when using the Sound to Wav export (better to have a separate audio reference track to accompany the video). This has been happening forever, but I just did a clean install of XP Pro, SP3, installed the latest QT and authorized with my Pro license, and still get a crash. I've never been able to detect a pattern related to particular types of movies, and it often happens even when all default settings are unchanged. Any ideas as to what would cause this? Thanks.
In trying workarounds, I exported the clip as a movie from FCP then tried to open it in Soundtrack Pro. STP closed. I also tried opening the (sent).stap file that FCP generated, and Soundtrack Pro closed again. Also, STP does not give me the error window saying the program closed unexpectedly and do I want to report it. It just stops. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot.

Photoshop crashes when playing audio
I am using Photoshop CS6 on Surface Pro 128GB to edit Video.
It crashes every time I like the preview the video and hit play in the timeline. First I was thinking it is the Video driver. Then I discovered, that it ONLY crashes when I hit the play button and it needs to play sound. As long as I mute all the clips it plays fine. I also have no problems editing. It is really only coaching immediately when it previews a clip with audio.
What can that be?
Please help! TNX!This came this morning just once:
