IDVD does not burn iMovie, blank disc

iMovie is fine. I export to iDVD and everything is fine, make titles, etc.
I burn and everything's ok, and the burn progresses fine, but the burn stops and spits out the disc seconds before it is complete.
I put the disc back in and I get the "you have inserted a blank disc....." message.
I'm using iLife '09, Maxell DVD-R discs (which have worked fine before) I scoured the internet and tried ALL suggestions I came across.
Any ideas or help is appreciated.....

Don't know why some fail so soon. But it does happen. Happened to me also a few years back. Did you happen to purchase an extended applecare warranty by any chance? If not apple normally covers these issues for the first 12 months (1 year). Nevertheless, Id give them a call anyway and feel free to keep us posted. I can tell you from experience that apple is normally very good about servicing their products (even those slightly out of warranty) so it is worth the call.
If you don't get the results you want, then just post back and we'll provided additional recommendations or possible workarounds.

  • IDVD does not burn camera audio - does burn ITunes audio

I have a Sony DCR-TRV460 video camera. The computer does not see my camera. I used an ADS Pyro A/V Link to get the movie from the camera to the computer. When I preview the movie in IMovie, I get the audio and video from the camera perfectly. When I move the movie to IDVD, I preview everything perfectly. When I burn the DVD I lose the audio from my camera. I have tried exporting the audio and that didn't work either. Any ideas on what I can do?

To add to Sue's post, have you tried the Firewire connection (camcorder to computer via Firewire, nothing in-between)? If the computer doesn't recognize the camcorder doing this, then that is problem 1 that needs solved prior to trying another sequence. Be sure your camcorder is set to 16-bit audio, many are set at 12-bit by default. Once you get the computer to recognize the camcorder, export this sequence back to tape, then re-import from the new tape and try burning that and see what happens.

  • IDVD will not burn dual layer disc correctly.

I have an iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz with 8 gigs of ram, with a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S DVD-writable to -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW. It will not spit out a properly formated disc from IDVD. I get the "Supported disc not available" message, even though I have encoded it for dual layer in NTSC.
Has anyone ever experience problems with this? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I've burned through a half a dozen dual layer disc and these are still not supercheap.

Yes I called and my warranty was up so the nerd on the other end tried to sell me the applecare protection program. I guess my next step is to go to an apple store, but as the person that replied last in that discussion said time is an issue. I guess my biggest problem with this whole thing is that it is obviously the update that messed up all of these superdrives, so warranty shouldn't be an issue. Apple even removed the download link: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070716082804520&query=superdrive

  • IDVD Does not Burn 2 or more Copies

For a few weeks not I have been having an issue with iDVD where it will burn a DVD (dual layer), eject it through the DVD burner and the diaglog is stuck on burning but says done. There is no prompt to insert another DVD. I do insert another one and nothing happens.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    David

I tried saving it to an image and if fails every time. Plus I heard that it won't burn correctly when doing a Dual Layer DVD?
    David
It could be a iDVD preference issue.
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch iDVD and try again.

  • IDVD will not burn iMovie

I prepared an iMovie, "shared" into iDVD, and waited the roughly 3 1/2 hours while processing occurred. The burn cycle never started. I got a message indicating something like "multiplex errors". I also tried to burn using Disk Utility - also unsuccessful. iDVD map indicated no problems. The movie plays fine in iMovie on the monitor. Space is not a problem and my iLife is the latest version. I'm using a 2.16 Intel core 2 Duo.
The only thing I can think of is the fact that I downloaded the tape from my Canon H10 using an older, 800 MHz, G4 iMac and got an error message indicating that the computer was not fast enough for the job. The tape downloaded, however, although it took a bit longer, i.e., it didn't download in real time.

This is my first time using iLife so I may have done a number of things that could have caused the problem. Here's more info... I downloaded close to four hours worth of video from the HD10 using my old G4 iMac. I then used this "movie" in my new Intel machine to create a 42 min. version. The soundtrack consists of HD 10 soundtrack plus sound imported from iTunes. The CDs downloaded to iTunes were either my own or from the library. I did, however, put my iPhoto and iMusic apps, as well as a movie folder, on a 500GB hard drive. So all of the above activity has taken place on the 500GB HD. I did not rename, move, or delete the Movies folder in Home. I just created a new folder. However, I also tried putting my 42 min. movie into the Movies folder in Home and reran the process - no change
I will delete iDVD prefs and run the process again to see if anything changes.
Based on some other postings, I reran the process selecting my movie from the Media menu of iDVD (as opposed to sharing to iDVD from iMovie) and nothing changed.
The movie also contains slides - all have the Burns effect and were not shared to iDVD separately. I prepared a complete movie, including chapters, before going to iDVD.
I suppose I could start all over downloading from the HD 10 to my Intel machine, but it took me months of editing to get where I am, so that's kind of a last resort. Since this was my first effort, I'm sure it would go a bit faster the next time, but I would really like to be more confident that that will fix the problem.

  • My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen

Like it says in the title...My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen.
Here is the process that I have been doing.
    1. put in a blank disk and with the project already being done, i hit burn (not too hard).
    2. iDvd then starts to encode the title.
    3. After the title has been encoded, the burning stops and a message comes up saying "there was an error during encoding" and when ever I try to burn the same message keeps on coming up.
    I am running version 7.0.4
any help would be extremely helpful

    Try using this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Then you can concentrate on the content if you can't create a disk image of the project.

  • My iMovie & iDVD does not work properly at all.

When I try to share a movie in iMovie, it says "Unable to prepare project for publishing". As well as "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Error in user parameter list)". Also, it wont import any videos no matter what the format is. I have uninstalled the program & re-installed it but nothing seems to work.
iDVD does not let me create a project and edit it. It also does not let me create a DVD.
I have an '07 Macbook w/ Snow Leopard operating system and I have run out of ideas as to why these 2 programs are not working for me.
    Please help!!!

First try Resetting it: Hold down the home and sleep button, ignore the red OFF slider, wait for the Apple logo then let go.
If that does not work, Restore your iPhone in iTunes from your backup.
If that still does not fix it, Restore your iPhone and a new phone (not from backup) and see how it works. If it is doing fine you have a app you are using that is probably causing your problem. Load them one and a time until the problems recur and you will have found the one that is a problem.

When I burn a disc from a playlist in iTunes on my MacBook, the track names and artist info does not display on the disc when friends view/listen to it. This probably is an easy fix, but I need some advice.

No, this standard has been implemented for several decades.
How iTunes remembers audio CDs - http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27785
It is just conceivable you burned a CD that exactly matched one already in the Gracenote database.  Gracenote uses track count and duration to decide what CD it is you have in a computer.  If you have one that matches that it will label it.  You could conceivably even have one that matches it that is not the correct one.
This script will only work on Macs:

  • Imovie (and idvd) does not seem to read my mpeg files ?

imovie and idvd does not seem to read my collection of mpeg movies. Do they need to be converted to some other format ?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Mpeg1 and 2 files will need converting (Mpegstreamclip can do this - QT mpeg2 playback component required for mpeg2)
Mpeg 4 files will generally be OK but some may need converting.

  • IDVD will only burn to 16X discs and not 8X

I replaced my original superdrive with a pioneer DVR-100 because it can burn at 16X speed and dual layer. Now, iDVD will only burn to 16X discs. When I try to use 8X discs I get an error message. iDVD will begin to write, the disc will spin up twice, then the disc is ejected. The really annoying thing is that it makes those discs unusable.
Any ideas how to fix this.

    What brand DVD-R?
I burn Verbatim DVD-R 16X at 4X all the time using a disk image and Toast (or Disk Utility). Try Verbatim. I use other brands too. In both of my "SuperDrives."
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Idvd will not burn after upgrade to maverick

    Hello-
I just upgraded to maverick and now iDVD will not burn a DVD - says it does not have a compatible superdrive. It was working fine until I upgraded. How can I burn a nice DVD now?

Suggestion only. Before launching, did you also check for updates via apple's software updater?

  • IDVD does not start

With the launching of iDVD6, the loading of the topics the programe stop.
I am obliged to force to leave (iDVD does not answer any more)
    Have you a sollution
Thank you and excuse me for the bad language I am French

    Hi N
iDVD takes a while to start up.
How do you know that iDVD doesn't answer any more ? Using activity monitor ?
Well Activity monitor isn't to rely on in all circumstances. When rendering in
iMovie and coding in iDVD it indicates that either of them is not answering but
they are running as normal as ever. Just wait.
If iDVD doesn't start up the most common origin is that the user has installed
new programs but not run "repair permissions" with Apple Util tool.
As no:2 I would locate iDVD pref file and move it to desktop Then restart iDVD.
Still not working: I would start a new account, logg-out of this-one and into
the new one (it forces Mac OS to create several new pref files).
    Now it should run.
What Mac are You using, processor, speed, RAM, free space on hard disk,
Mac OS version, iDVD version and QT version ?
    Yours Bengt W
