Idvd does not recognize superdrive

i have a macbook pro 15" and it has a superdrive, but just now when i opened idvd to burn a dvd an error message popped up saying that "this machine does not have a superdrive so i will not be able to burn a dvd?" then i quit idvd and opened it again and was able to burn the dvd. does any one know what happened? or what caused that. i just received my computer back today from a repair that was done concerning the screen and the computer freezing. but now im paranoid that its not recognizing the superdrive.

"this machine does not have a superdrive so i will not be able to burn a dvd?"
Don't be paranoid. It's actually normal. When Apple Certified Techs open or go into the guts of your laptop and open up the machine completely, they often test items as a whole and also individually which means they need to disconnect various items and then put them back the way they were.
If you got this error message when you opened iDVD, it's very possible they had to remove a component or perhaps the S-Drive and put it back in when they were done. If they did this while the system was powered up, then next time the app is opened it will remember it didn't have the drive at that particular time. So next time it's powerd up one would get a message saying there is no S-Drive. If you see the message again, then I'd be concerned. That would indicate the device was not properly reinstalled and may have a loose connection.

  • Powerbook does not recognize Superdrive

Yesterday my Powerbook was acting funny and hanging at the white Apple logo at start up so I decided to stick in my boot CD so I could run some disk utilities to diagnose and remedy the problem. My Powerbook refused to boot from the CD (although it was working mechanically... you can hear the disc spinning) and after some PMU resets and PRAM resets I breathed life back into the computer. Then, however, the super drive refused to spit out the CD. Nothing I tried would make it cooperate. So I then checked the System Profiler and checked Disc Burning and got a disturbing message -
"No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly."
The drive would always spin up, but refuse to read. I finally got fed up with it and cracked open my Powerbook took out my Superdrive and opened the case and rescued the Boot CD manually. My computer is no longer under warranty and I have been inside of it before and removed even more critical components such as the hard drive, so I'm certain I didn't break anything on the way in or out. Now, the Superdrive is still not being recognized by my computer and no longer accepts discs and spits them back out with a unenthusiastic tired tone.
Is there any way I can resuscitate my Superdrive?
Are there any methods I can use where I can confirm whether or not the Superdrive is dead or just experiencing difficulties?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex

I have an update to my problem.
I recently got my computer to recognize the Superdrive. The steps I took to do so were:
-I opened up my computer to check the drive and connection cable to make sure there was no way a lack of connection.
    -Reset PMU
    -Reset PRAM
-Went into Open Firmware and used the commands (reset-nvram, set-defaults, reset-all)
Booted my computer and sure enough my computer now acknowledges the existence of the superdrive; HOWEVER, it still does not accept any discs. It does not accept them to even start spinning, as soon as the disc is pushed in the drive throws it out with a negative ****** tone.
Due to the new developments, is there any way to fix the problem?
Do these symptoms indicate a dead Superdrive?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • IDVD does not recognize chapters

    Using iDVD '08 (7.0.2) on OS X 10.5.4, iMac 24" 2.8GHz C2D.
I created a video using FCP 5.1.4 and exported to QT Movie. I did not "Make Movie Self-Contained." I did select "All Markers" to be exported (I made sure to also create the <CHAPTER> tag for each marker). When I view the resulting movie in QT Player, I can see the chapter markers (there are two). However, when importing into iDVD, no chapter submenus are created (I am using the "Forever" theme), and pressing the chapter forward/back buttons in the preview player just take me to the end/beginning of the video, respectively.
Any idea what is wrong here, and how I can get a chapter submenu to be created? Thanks for any assistance.

Final Cut Studio: "All Markers" option does not include DVD Chapter Markers at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1233 says it all "When you export a QuickTime movie from Final Cut Pro, choosing the "All Markers" option does not include chapter markers that will function in DVD Studio Pro or iDVD."

  • Disc stuck and Mac does not recognize superdrive

I have an iMac G5 (no video camera). I have been using the superdrive without problem until today. I placed a DVD in the drive and nothing. I have tried every method I could think of to eject it. Ominously, the drive does not even appear when I run system profile.
Any thoughts on how to fix this short of a repair trip to Apple? Thanks!

  • OSX Yosemite does not recognize superdrives.

Performed a clean install of Yosemite on my Mac Pro (Early 2009), I had previous been running Yosemite from an upgrade. Performance was slow and after one root, it no longer booted, i.e. errors on boot drive. I restarted with the Recovery Partition and performed a clean install. Now, performance is good, both internal Harddrives are working well, however; my internal Superdrives are not showing up recognized.
System Report show this for my internal superdrives.
Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions of where to start on troubleshooting this?

  • G4 does not recognize replacement SuperDrive

Dual G4 Firewire 1.25 GHz (mirror door) has a DVD/ROM drive and I just replaced the SuperDrive with the Apple Original DVR-104WB (Pioneer).
The system profiler does not recognize the newly installed SuperDrive. I am running OSX10.4. I installed PatchBurn 4.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi JM,
I remember that there was a little green plastic thing on the pins. So I just need to move it to the pins designated for master.
Does it matter that the SuperDrive is in the lower bay? A TOSJICA DVD-ROM SD-R1312 drive is in the upper bay. Do I need to make an adjustment to that drive if it has a plastic thing designating it as master?
I was looking at another discussion: "More Comments on MDD G4 Lower Bay Superdrive Cooling" (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/archives/apr03/042103.html) Someone with a configuration similar to mine was changing the jumper to master but ended up putting the superdrive in the upper bay because he thought it would cool better.
Since I have to take the drives out anyway, what do you think about reversing their position in the bays so that the SuperDrive is on top?
    Thank you for helping.

  • Ibook does not recognize blank DVD - profiler looks suspicious

I have an ibook g4 1.42GHz running OS 10.4.11 purchased used about 10 months ago.
All of the literature says it should have a SuperDrive which should be able to burn DVD (SuperDrive DVD±RW/CD-RW). However I cannot get it to recognize a blank DVD. Plus iDVD brings up a message saying "your macintosh does not have a supported Superdrive...you will not be able to burn a dvd"
Doing some digging, the System Profiler looks like it thinks i shouldn't be able to either:
    MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8124:
    Firmware Revision: DB0D
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw
    Media: No
Says nothing about being able to burn dvd?
I am not aware that this model ever came NOT able to burn dvd. The only explanation i see is that the person i bought it from may have had it refurbished for some reason and they put in the wrong optical drive? Is that possible?
Or does anyone have any other explanation or fix?

    Hi
What you mean exactly? Does the drive does not recognize content on the media or there is problem if you want to burn data on DVD-R media?
Can you please explain all this a little bit more preciously?
Just for info: I use TDK empty medias almost 5 years and I can say that TDK is very good manufacturer for this stuff.

  • After downloading lion does not recognize blank discs or dvd´s cannot burn anything

I downloaded Lion and now my mac does not recognize any blank cd or dvd and I cannot burn anything, not with Toast 10, or with iDvd still not recognized.  Can someone help me??

    Hello
I have been trying to fix a similar issue on my wife's PowerBookG4. I cannot pin point when it started, but she noticed it a couple weeks ago when she tried burning a disc. We have come to discover that her drive will no longer mount any discs at all (blank or otherwise burned discs or software). If I had to make a guess it had to have started in the last month or so after some recent update. Maybe 10.5.2? I am not sure.
I am getting extremely frustrated with Apple though on this matter because I have been browsing multiple forums and seeing this exact issue over and over again and nobody seems to have a solution or correct diagnostic for it.
I have tried zapping PRAM, I have tried many types of discs, brands, etc. and nothing works. I know this is a Software issue, it has to be. There are a LOT of people reporting this issue. If necessary I will start linking to all the different posts that I found in the last few days.
Please post some help, ASAP. This has been a major inconvenience and I cannot believe that Apple hasn't discovered the problem with how many people have been reporting it.
    Thanks

  • "Find my iPhone does not recognize New iPhone 5

I use my AppleID to "Find my iPhone" successfully on iPhone 4, iPhone4S, iPad, iMac. All show up. New iPhone5 iOS 6.0.2 uses same AppleID in the General iCloud settings, Contacts, email, photostream, safari bookmarks, reminders, notes, are all synced fine. I can even see how much storage is available in my iCloud account on the new iPhone5.  The Problem is that "Find my iPhone" does not recognize the new iPhone 5. Yes location services is turned on. The iPhone5 can find its location in the map app, can find all other devices in "Find my iPhone" just not itself in "Find my iPhone" I tried a hard reset.
    ANY IDEAS?

How about when the passcode is correct but not recognized?
I was prompted to enter a password to unlock the device when I downloaded IOS 7 several months ago.
Entered the password every single day for months, never a problem.
Yesterday I attempted to download the most recent IOS version and I was asked for a passcode before I could do that (my phone was unlocked). Online I found out the passcode is the unlocking password. It did not work and I was unable to use the phone for several minutes after 5 attempts. I just stored the phone and when home I charged it overnight.
This morning I unlocked the phone as usual  and used it without a problem for emails, phone calls. etc.. Now, after not having used it for a while, I am asked for the passcode to unlock it as usual, and although I am sure I entered the right code, it is not recognized. I am unable to unlock my phone, although I have done it for months.
This is not a case of forgotten passcode! And I see it has happened to many others that use 4s and 5s iphones.
i could attempt the iTune connection fix, but it troubles me that all solutions are presented for forgotten pascodes, and in many cases actually the passcodes are not recognized. Which means, it will keep happening unless Apple offers a solution.
