IDVD doesn't recognize my Sony HC3

I am trying just to send some video from my Sony HDR-HC3 to DVD using One Step DVD in iDVD 08. I have the camera plugged in, a blank dvd in the drive and it keeps telling me, "To use OneStep DVD, connect your digital video camera to your computer using a FireWire cable. Then turn on your camera and make sure it's in VCR mode.Click OK and insert a blank disc. OneStep DVD rewinds the tape, imports your video, and burns it to a DVD."
Uhh...no it doesn't. Any thoughts on why it is not recognizing my Sony though it is recognized in iMovie?
Thanks

Hi Slingdog
And welcome to apple discussions. Before shopping for a camcorder make absolutely certain it is supported in apple's iMovie if your intention is to import via firewire/ Sony's i.Link and edit video and or burn to Dvd-R. If it's not listed then you may run into a number of issues. Check within apple's supported camcorders here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014
Do you see it listed?
Also, did you already read this link?
http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-286384.html
Sure hope the above helps but if not just come on back and good luck.

  • I had to reinstall ADE on another computer.  Now it doesn't recognize my Sony eReader

I had to reinstall ADE on another computer.  Now it doesn't recognize my Sony eReader.  How do I get it to recognize it?  Do I need to "unauthorize" my ADE id on the 1st device?  Is that the problem?  How the hell do you talk to a live body at Adobe?  This is ridiculous.

Hello -  the chat service for ADE helped me find an answer.  With Sony ereaders, you always need to have the Sony reader app installed on the same machine as ADE.  There are some drivers installed with the Sony reader app that are needed.  Since I did that, ADE now acknowledges my Sony PRS-350.
    Here is a link:  https://ebookstore.sony.com/download/
The chat line was very helpful with this; they tell me you cannot call in to get ADE support -  you can only use the chat box.

  • ADE 3.o doesn't recognize my Sony PRS-T1: please help me !!!!!!!!!!!

ADE 3.o doesn't recognize my Sony PRS-T1. Installation run well on desktop. Unlock of an e-book run well on desktop. Ebook copied to reader. But reader is not recognized be ADE so I cannot unlock ebook on reader.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello
I am very sorry to tell you that ADE is not compatible with Prs-T1. You have to use calibre or reader for pc. In reader for pc you can autorize yor reader for drmprotected material. After that you can use calibre if you dont like reader for pc.

  • After iLife 6 upgrade, iMove & iDVD doesn't recognize my video camera.

Since upgrading to iLife 6, iMovie and iDVD no longer recognizes my video camera. I have tried plugging, unplugging, turn off, turn on - all the usual procedures and I can't get it working.
Here's the unusual thing; I have Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and it finds the video camera just fine every time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My camera is a Sony HDR-HC1

I just tried my camera and wasn't successful at first. After connecting it (I didn't have the firewire connected at first , turning the camera on and off, disconnecting/connecting I noticed a choice (I was able to use the iSight) of input but had the camera listed as incompatible with the project. I had to close the test project I started and start a new one. This time I was more careful about the setting and selected it as a DV project.
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I upload my DV videos to my macbook pro if iMovie doesn't recognize a Sony DCR-TRV20?

I purchased a firewire 800 9-pin to 4-pin cable and then found out my macbook pro nor imovie '11 even recognize my cameras existence.  I have precious videos on mini DV tapes that I need to upload.  Any suggestions?

    Hi
    My long notes on this
    NO CAMERA or A/D-box
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toggle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on <-> off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK e.g. recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
    • Is the dip-switches set right ?
    • Set to same standard as recorded/editing e.g. NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    • Try resetting it
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    External device’s (hard disk’s)
    • Should be FireWire as USB/USB2 performs badly and so does Airport or Net-work connected ones too.
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - DO NOT WORK for video due to 4Gb barrier.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited. No Camera or A/D-box
    • GarageBands fix - Close iMovie, Open GarageBand, Play some notes, Close GB and iMove can now be OK
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.

    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    • Screen Saver - OFF

    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended   formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After un-installing Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconnect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odw_en_GB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • Premiere doesn't recognize my Sony FX7

I have tried every setting I can think of but I am still getting "capture device offline" with my Sony FX7.  Record mode is HDV on a DV tape.  Any ideas?

    Ok Kenneth
So you recorded HDV? Correct? if so turn off your CPU unhook firewire cable from cpu once compouter totally shut down.
Then go to your camera menu screen and make sure your cameras output is set to output whatever you shot- I'll assume HDV- so make sure your camera is set to HDV output mode- through your firewire port (look at your manual to find this setting if not sure WHERE IT IS)
Once that is done start up your cpu- when it boots up into the OS attach the firewire cable and start premiere
When you have the option to start a new project select that and make sure your capture format for your new Pr Pro project is set to HDV
If you did all this and it still dosen't work
    I'm out of ideas
but I would still restart my cpu first if I were you and try again
    Hope any of this helps
    Best

  • IDVD won't recognize any QuickTime files...

Suddenly iDVD doesn't recognize any of the files I had created previous DVDs with, nor is it recognizing new .mov files I have created. QuickTime, FCP, and DVD Studio Pro all still recognize and use the .mov files.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I have deleted iDVD and reinstalled, but the problem persists...
    Any help out there?

Okay, I got on under my troubleshooting account, in which I've never even opened any of the iLife apps, populate the iPhoto library with some images off a memory stick, ditto for iTunes, and 2 of the Quicktime Movies that won't work under my regular account.
Created a brand new iPhoto slideshow and exported it through the 'share with iDVD' option as before. At the end of the slideshow export, I got an error message from iDVD saying that there were issues with the build and the movie was not a valid one, something like "it is not a movie". But, there it is, sitting in my Movies Folder as a Quicktime Movie AND I can play it with Quicktime.
So I try to do a new iDVD. Select the Revolution Template, drag in images from the iDVD media browser Photos, drag in music from the iDVD media browser Audio. All okay. Then I do the 'add a movie' choice, and drag the Quicktime Movie into the iDVD menu as before, and as before, it cannot 'find' it. I use the 'find file' again, and there it is, right where iDVD cannot see it. I select and open it, but iDVD responds by moving that 'find' to the bottom of the list and I'm caught in a gerbil wheel of 'finding' files that are right in front of me in the Finder, but can't be seen by iDVD.
I also restored all preferences from my last Time Machine save for iDVD, iPhoto, and the Media Browser. Tried it all again. No luck.
    Any ideas?

  • I have a Mac Mini, and it won't accept connecting my Sony video camera.  So I got a SD mem card reader to unload my movies from.  It worked the first time I used it a few months ago.  This time it says it doesn't recognize the format I am trying to use?

I have all thenecessary updates.  I have switched over from a PC to Mac back in April and have nad nothing but problems adapting.  I don't know why this worked the first time, and put my videos inti imovie, and now it doesn't recognize it at all.  And the Mem card reader does work, because I just put the SD card from my regular camera into it and it downloaded those fine, it just won't take my movies!

Which sony camera? I have a Sony HDR-CX550 right now and have been able to use the SD card as well as connect the camera directly. I also had CX110 that work too. You may want to try to copy the complete top level folder from the SD card to the Hard drive, then try to "import from Camera archive" and select that folder.

  • Have Sony reader 505, ADE doesn't recognize when attached to mac OX 10.6.8. works with reader library but not with ADE

Have Sony reader 505, ADE doesn't recognize when attached to mac OX 10.6.8. works with reader library but not with ADE

    YEAY!
I just got the solution (that worked for me, anyway) from a Sony support rep. No PC or VMWare needed.
OK, you've installed Sony eBook Library v3, and Adobe Digital editions, you've set up your acocunts and authorized your computer on both of them, and you've authorized your Reader with the Sony Library application.
You go to the public library ebook download page, either through the Sony Library or just through a bookmark.
You check out a book, and open it in Adobe Digital Editions, which still won't recognize your Reader.
BUT, in the Sony Library app, you can now click "File, Import.." and go find the pdf you downloaded with the Adobe app.
On my Mac, it was in ~/Documents/Digital Editions
Import it, and drag it to your Reader.
The first time you do this, it will ask you to authorize the Reader with your Adobe ID.
    Worked like a charm.

  • IMovie HD 6.0.3 will no longer recognize my Sony DCR-HC40 camcorder

My Sony DCR-HCR 40 previously worked with iLife 4 until I upgraded to
Mac OS 10.4.6. After that iMovie no longer recognized my camcorder. I then
upgraded to iLife 6 and iMovie HD 6.0.3. Again, iMovie does not recognize my
camcorder. I've read everyone's comments and tried different suggestions
(including those in iMovie's help pages and connection tips) and still nothing.
I use an iLink Cable and have quicktime 7.1.3. Everything was fine, till the OS
upgrade. Sony is no help. They said contact Apple, so here I am. Any help will
    be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response SDIllini, unfortunately when I do go the Disk Utility, my camcorder isn't even show for me to even repair the disk permissions. As monty jr stated, Sony was no help for me either, they also told me that I would need to contact Apple. The problem still remains unsolved though, it's as if the MBP just doesn't recognize the camcorder whatsoever. I'm open to any suggestions, have anymore?

  • Quicktime 10 doesn't recognize external video source.

Setting up my new 27" iMac, and discover that Quicktime 10 doesn't recognize an external video source fed in through the firewire port. It is an older Sony analog to digital video converter, and goes through a FW400 to FW800 converter. Quicktime doesn't even "see" that video source as a choice when recording, nor does iMovie, even though it shows up in the System Profiler.
Apps that were ported over from my previous system, however, such as "Video Viewer" and "Final Cut Pro" do see the source, presumably because they were configured to do so on the old system.
Is there some global settings file that I can edit, or something similar that I can do, to make it visible to all apps?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Quicktime 7 does recognize the video source, but newer apps, such as iMovie, won't. I'd like to be able to capture to iMovie, but can't without the video source being recognized. Is there a fix?
    Thanks!

  • Does apple have update to idvd so I can use Sony dcr-sx44 camcorder

Does apple have an update to idvd so I can use sony dcr-sx44 camcorder?

If you already have iDVD then run Software Update, if there are any updates available for iDVD they will be posted. While that doesn't answer your question directly it is your best option. Looking at the software specifications for the camera it doesn't look like it was ever intended to work with OS X. This is what I found on Sony's website:
    Software
Supplied Software : PMB Ver.5.0 Supports Windows XP Service Pack3 (SP3)(32bit), Windows Vista Service Pack2 (SP2) (32bit), Windows 7, 64-bit editions and Starter (Edition) are not supported. Not supported by Mac OS.
Operating System Compatibility : "Windows XP SP3 * /Windows Vista SP2 ** /Windows7 * 64-bit editions and Starter (Edition) are not supported. The Windows Image Mastering API(IMAPI)Ver.2.0 or later is required to use the function for creating discs. ** Starter (Edition) are not supported. Standard installation is required. Operation is not assured if the above OS has been upgraded or in a multi-boot environment. "
I suspect a camera upgrade may be what you need to do.

I do not see your camera on the list of supported cameras - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US - if it is not supported then shoot JPEG until support is released or use the Sony supplied software to download and convert the images and import the converted images until Apple releases support

  • FCE Doesn't Recognize My New Cam

Final Cut Express doesn't recognize my new video camera that I just plugged into the computer. Is there a thing I'm supposed to do within FCE to make the camera recognized? Thanks.

You should specify, what camcorder you try to connect. If it is tape based then there should not be any problem, but with AVCHD you can expect difficulties. If it a new Panasonic HDC-SD9 for example then it is practically incompatible with any editing video software. I checked iMovie08, FCE 4 on Intel Mac and Sony Vegas on Windows machine. All programs crashed on import attempt.
BTW, did anyone find solution for SD9 problem except Voltaic conversion? I searched over internet and did not find even single case of successful direct HDC-SD9 files import.
And no, I do not have Perian installed on my Mac.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
