IDVD doesn't work

I just bought a Macbook and it cames with idvd 7 version. When I try to open it just open for few seconds and then it closes again. How can I fix it? Tks!!!

Welcome to the forums.
First you'll want to check and make sure it has a DVD burner ("combo" drive burns CDs and reads DVDs, but doesn't burn DVDs).

  • IDVD doesn't work with Leopard

Hi, I recently installed Leopard and have had no problems with it until I tried to use iDVD today and found that the themes will not load. Does an upgrade to iLife 08 solve this problem?
I previously had no problems using iDVD. Below are the specs from my computer.
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iBook G4
    Model Identifier: PowerBook6,7
    Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.5)
    Processor Speed: 1.42 GHz
    Number Of CPUs: 1
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 142 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.3f0
    Serial Number: 4H543GPTSE9
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
    Version: 1.0

    Hi
Yes iDVD 5 doesn't work with Leopard.
Installing iLife08 will install iDVD 08 which works BUT NOW iMovie'08 will not work
though it needs a G5 1.9GHz minimum. So You need to download iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4)
which You are entitled to as an iLife08 owner.

  • Burning a slideshow from imovie to idvd doesn't work...Please help

    Hello,
I'm trying to burn a slideshow I created in imovie to DVD but it doesn't seem to work. Everytime I click on the burn icon in idvd it tells me to insert a blank DVD. Once i insert a blank dvd it spits it right out.
I'm getting married on July 1 and I need this slideshow to work.
    Please advise.

When you upload the site is has nothing to do with iWeb and people who work for the hosting companies and say that iWeb is the problem or is rubbish do not have a clue what they are talking about.  They use it as an excuse because they don't understand what they are doing.
What folder do you have to upload your site to on the server?  Is it called "public_html", or "htdocs" or something like this?  If so, then in the directory/path, where some can leave it blank, you can enter public_html or htdocs or whatever file you upload to on your server.  This should then work.
Your other option of course, is not to use the iWeb built in ftp, but to select publish to a local folder and then download Cyberduck - a dedicated ftp programme and use this to upload your site.  If you use Cyberduck, then you can connect directly with your server and you can see exactly where all your site files are being uploaded to and exactly what folder on your server you have to upload to.  If you use iWeb ftp, then you are working blind really and just hoping for the best.
Either try inserting the name of your folder in the directory/path section or publishing to a local folder and using Cyberduck to upload instead.

  • IDVD doesn't work with DVCpro HD?

    Hi,
I've been trying to import a DVCpro HD quicktime movie exported from Final Cut Pro 5 onto iDVD 7 but all I get is a white screen when I preview it. I've also burned a dvd and get a green screen when the movie is played. I would like to know if iDVD supports the DVCpro format or is it simply a software version compatibility problem. One more thing - I also get a white screen when viewing the dvcpro file in quicktime. To solve that problem I've checked the 'Open using Rosetta' option in the quicktime application info. Thanks

usage of DVDSP doesn't improve compatibilty.. standards is standards..
    what you could do...:
use different brand of media, Verbatim is my suggestions..
and, tell iDVD to create an 'image' first, than use DiskUtility or Toast to create a videoDVD form that image, burn speed 2 - 4x ...
PS: NEVER trust what a client tells you..
when your DVDstandalone plays the disk, the problem sits in front of a PC, not a Mac..

  • Error Message: iDVD doesn't work because someone hacked onto your HTM CSS Programmed Intel Device and changed up the format of your DL router.  Therefore, the application IDVD was destroyed in the process

Does anybody know what this is about?  I've tried looking it up on google, but with no success.  Thanks.

Try reinstalling iDVD from your system DVD.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3415

  • IDVD doesn't open_and never did

    Hi, I have a G4 10.4.1
Whenever I try to open iDVD it will say that it won't open cuz there is no drive to burn DVDs. But a couple of month ago I got an extern DVD burner and it still won't open. I posted here before and was told that it doesn't work with an extern dvd burner (La Cie by the way...so it is for Mac). But reading the different topics here it seems that people are able to burn DVD's with an external DVD burner.
Was there something wrong from the beginning on that iDVD never opened (I got the computer in 2003)?
Is there a chance that I will be able to burn with iDVD since Toast doesn't really allow individual backgrounds.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks a lot.
    Mandy

Sounds like you have iLife '03. iDVD 3 required an internal SuperDrive. SkipHaughay is correct. You will be able to burn to the external LaCie with iLife '06 (iDVD 6).
Update to 10.4.6 before installing iLife '06 to get all the themes for iDVD and iMovie installed.
Here are the system requirements for iLIfe '06:
    iLife '06 System Requirements
    • Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, or Intel Core processor; 733MHz or faster for iDVD
    • 256MB of RAM, 512MB recommended
    • Mac OS X v10.3.9 or v10.4.3 or later; v10.4.4 recommended
    • iTunes 6.0.2 and QuickTime 7.0.4 (included)
    • DVD drive for installation
    • 10GB of available disk space
    • High-definition video requires 1GHz G4 or faster and 512MB of RAM.
    • Burning DVDs requires an Apple SuperDrive or compatible third-party DVD burner.
    • iPhoto print services are available in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and select European countries; requires Internet access; fees and terms apply.
    • .Mac account required for iPhoto Photocast publishing and recommended for iWeb. The .Mac service is available to persons age 13 and older. Annual membership fee and Internet access required. Terms and conditions apply.
    • iWeb requires Internet and webserver access (.Mac recommended). The .Mac service is available to persons age 13 and older. Annual membership fee and Internet access required. Terms and conditions apply.
    • Mac OS X v10.4.4 required for iMovie HD themes, iDVD themes, iPhoto Photocast publishing, and iChat recording in GarageBand. iChat video conferencing requires broadband Internet connection; fees may apply.

  • IDVD doesn't start any more

    Hello and help!!!
    iDVD doesn't start any more.
On the 20th of March my iDVD 4.0.1 worked as well as allways but on the 21/3 it any longer did not start. I tryed starting it from iMovie such as I used it on the 20/3 and it does not start either.
I ask if it can to be an acceptable attempt of solution, to drag the aplicacion iDVD into the wastebasket, to install it again from the cd's that come with the computer and finally to update it with the revision 4.0.1
Can be any relation with the version of QuickTime?
    Thanks,
    Joan
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.25 GB of RAM and QuickTime 7.0.1

If it were me, I would downgrade QT from v7 back to v6.x.x as that is the stable version to use with OS 10.3.9.
In addition, I would run the list of maintenance applications found in this post (or ones like them)...

  • Last chapter button doesn't work

On my burned disc, the button for the last chapter in the menu doesn't work.  The video footage is there, but it can't be accessed from the menu like the other chapters can.  It's happened with two different iDVD projects. Is this something I have to address in iMovie before sharing with iDVD?  Please help!  THANKS

    Hello, Joan.
Chapter markers can cause problems.  Here's a link to a site run by one of the venerable forum users, and there are "chapter rules" which have helped in prior versions of iDVD and may help you.
    http://sites.google.com/site/idvdmodding/mish-complete-list-of-idvd-rules
In particular, make sure you don't have a marker within two seconds of the end of your production.

  • Charger works when notebook is off, but it doesn't work when the notebook is on.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3070tx Entertainment Notebook PC.
My charger doesn't work when the notebook is on and plugged in, but when the notebook is off (or even when it is in sleep mode) it gets charged. I tested this by using different chargers that work in other hp notebooks. If this can be solved, I'll be grateful.

    Hi
There are two structures of DVDs
    • Data-DVD - as burned from DeskTop/Finder
    • Video-DVD - to be played on a DVD-Player - Needs a program that can do this
One can in iMovie - Export as QuickTime .mov and save this via DeskTop/Finder onto a DVD - BUT this will only play on a Computer and if it is a Window-PC this needs to download QT-player or VLC-player.
But no DVD-player for TV can play back this.
To get a Video-DVD then You need
    • iDVD (not from Apple any more) - or -
    • DVD Studio Pro (not from Apple any more) - or -
    • FinalCut Pro-X (can do simple Video-DVDs) - or -
    • Burn - http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html - FREE - but very PLAIN - no fancy things at all.
    • Roxio Toast™ 11 Pro - Fairly advanced - and costs a bit - still very Good and lot's of great tool's included. (I love it) - Can also back convert home made DVDs to an editable mode in an OK quality. With BD-component also capable to do sort of Blu-Ray DVDs.

  • Burned DVD - menu doesn't work

I'm fairly new to all this and have created a slideshow in iMovie and then created a DVD in iDVD. In iDVD it all works (there is just one menu item). But when I burn to disc image (or even burn a dvd) the menu link doesn't work - it just starts over the main screen. However, with the mac dvd player if I go to the menu, I can access it through "title".
    HELP!
    Many thanks!
    bchina

Try closing iDVD and trashing the file called com.Apple.iDVD.plist located in User/Library/Preferences. iDVD will create a new file upon relaunch. Then repair permissions using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac. After deleting coded assets, try burning again.
When you burn again, I would burn from a disk image rather then directly from your iDVD project. Open your iDVD project, Delete Coded Assets from the Advanced menu, and save your project as a Disk Image on your hard drive. The assets will re-encode, taking a little time. Play the disk image with your computer's DVD Player application and see if the menu button works on the disk image. If it does, your initial problem might be caused by bad media. Burn a new DVD disk from the disk image at 4x speed, using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R disks. See if that works.
    Hope this helps.

  • Microphone on isight doesn't work?

my microphone doesn't work...i tried it on skype...and recording a voice over on idvd!!! Help!!

Go into your System Preferences > Sound
and then click on the "Input" button at the top.
In there you should have 3 choices of Microphones.
    1. iSight
    2. Internal Microphone
    3. Line In
Adjust your Input Volume and then see if the bars on the Input Level move when you speak....
Also make sure the checkbox at the bottom is not checked for "Mute".

  • Remote often doesn't work right

Often, the remote in preview mode just doesn't work...takes me out of Preview mode instead of taking me back to the Menue or Title or whatever I am testing. I thought it was maybe just a glitch in the Preview mode. Now, after burning a disk image and testing it out, I still don't understand it. Overall it seems to work okay, but when I play my movie, I want to stop and go back to the menu, but it says "not permissable". I hit the Title button and it works, then I can go from there back to the Menu. I just don't get it. It seems like the most simple remote in the world and acts like the most complex. Am I missing something?

It seems silly that I can't make a DVD that works like all the others out there in the world.
The others "out there in the world" are encoded from film using million dollar state of the art encoders.
Then they are mastered or replicated using glass master discs that are duplicated. iDVD is a free consumer app.
There is a world of difference between the processes.
You might think it's silly, but all things considered, desktop authoring with a free app does approach commercial authoring.

  • IDVD 5 doesnt work after installing Leopard

    Hi,
Our company bought the Leopard OS, and after installing it, the themes are no longer available for iDVD (haven't tried the rest). I re-installed iLife '05. It didn't fix the problem. I tried it on Powerbooks, same thing.
The upgrade to iDVD6 doesn't work either. It says no available version in the Applications folder.
Now, I've seen that people say, you can't upgrade you have to buy iLife '08 to upgrade. Fair enough, but the point here is that I have iLife '05 and it didnt work. Basically, Leopard has ruined a big part of my job. Whether it's a bug or something, MAC needs to give us a solution immediately!! We are not purchasing iLife '08, and on the other hand the iDVD upgrades cannot be applied...
    Any solution is appreciated...

not exactly on thread, but related question.
I am about to try, for the first time, iDVD to burn my iPhotos for tv viewing.
I am presently using iLife 6, and have iLife8 that will not be opened until Christmas (in deference to my 97 yo Mom who has given it to me as a Christmas present ;-))
after reading the above issues: question is: should I just WAIT until I install iLife8 to burn the dvds or will there be no problem with the 06 to 08 tiger vs ultimate (but not til the bugs are out ) leopard transition. I don't want to do this only to find that when I switch to Leopard that the dvds are not compatable. same goes for 06 to o8 versions
    thanks

  • Mini-DVI to S-Video Adapter doesn't work

Hi, I am using the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter from apple to connect my macbook to the TV. But the only thing I get is a grey flickering picture on my TV. When I click on the monitor-button I can see that my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display. I tried all different resolutions, but needless to say it doesn't work.
Can the adapter be broken, or is there a problem with the macbook?
Macbook white 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 1GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display
If you connect the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter, the monitor button on the menubar should show resolutions for Color LCD in one section and NTSC/PAL in the other.
A grey flickering picture is indicative of picking the wrong standard-PAL vs. NTSC.
