IDVD error 1-full disk?

I tried to burn a DVD, it rendered etc etc just before the burn it came up with an error 1. I checked and all of a sudden the "disk was full" 4 gig of 4 gig. I took some stuff out and got down to 2.7 gig. tried to burn again and got the same problem, it was full again. I can't take too much out anymore. It is not the media as it is the highest quality. I'm lost. first time this has happened, culd there still be too muc on there?

John U,
18 GB of free space should be enough, try to squeeze out a few extra GB if you can.
First things I would check:
Chapter Markers http://dvd.kentidwell.com/?page_id=53
Delete the plist and repair permissions http://dvd.kentidwell.com/?page_id=77
Make sure you have some audio in the project: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301876
And finally if the project isn't too complicated, you might try rebuilding it and/or trying to burn it with a different user account.
You can also check this:
http://dvd.kentidwell.com/?page_id=65
But I haven't seen many problems with MM fonts for most users since the iDVD5.0.1 update.
Fianlly tell us more about your project. How long is it in minutes? Are you using Best Perfromance or Best Quality? Did you delete encoded assets?

  • Why is Premiere 6 giving a "Error writing file (disk full?)" message?

    Hello helpful experts,
    I'm using Premiere 6 on a Windows 7 machine.
I have a file imported in to the timeline and it is set to play in reverse via the speed setting being set to -100 and it plays back in the preview window correctly, in reverse, when I click the play button.
But when I do a  "File>Export Timeline>Movie" command I get an error message saying "An error occurred while making the movie. Error writing file (disk full?)"... but my hard drive is not nearly full, with over 30 gigs left open on it... and my RAM usage gadget shows over half of my RAM capacity is unused.
Now previously, weeks ago on a different project, I was getting this same error message for a while when I would hit enter to preview my movie on the timeline (but that worked itself out somehow and eventually stopped giving me that error message).  But when I went to save and export, then I would not get the error message... now, it is just the opposite... I'm now getting the error message when trying to do an export and save the movie.
And also now when I hit enter to preview, as opposed to just clicking the play button on the preview window, Premiere is going through the process of saving the movie since it is saving a temporary preview file... hopefully, since I'm getting this error message, I can find the temporary preview file and save it as my exported AVI file.
But I still shouldn't be getting this error message when trying to save, or when trying to preview, as I did for a while a couple of weeks ago.
Does anyone know about the erroneous error message that says, "An error occurred while making the movie. Error writing file (disk full?)"
    Thanks,
    numetro

I am unable to complete captures because I get a message
that says "capture stopped because disk was full." What
    does this mean?
    Daniel Conklin - 08:02am Apr 17, 2003 Pacific (#1 of 2)
If you are using a Pinnacle card, a possible solution to
this is to right click on the recycle bin, and set the
percentage on your media drive to less than 2%.
There a several other possible causes as well, but you
need to supply some info about your system. How are you
capturing and what format is your video? How big is
    your hard drive?
    Jeff Schell - 09:57am Apr 17, 2003 Pacific (#2 of 2)
this is one of my favorite error messages. Basically,
you've chosen an incorrect setting in your DV settings.
(Odds are you have DV settings). If so, read on:
    1. The DV format is very rigid. Meaning that if you
make changes to the format, it cannot export as
requested, because your movie file must match every
       single spec exactly.
    2. When Premiere goes to export a project, the DV codec
says "Whoa. I can't do anything, because the settings
       don't match."
    3. Then Premiere comes back to you and has to report an
error. (Don't shoot the messenger). Unfortunately,
Premiere doesn't know why it wasn't able to export a
movie. So it says to you, "Um... I can't make the movie.
Um... maybe your hard drives are full?"
It's a complete guess. And has nothing to do with your harddrives.
Check your project settings and/or your export settings. Make
sure you have chosen one of the "presets" that will specify
every correct setting for you. Make sure it is one of the DV
presets, if you are using DV video, or make sure it is one of
the presets supplied by your capture card manufacturer (in this
case I'm going to guess Pinnacle or Matrox.)
To choose a preset, go to Project > Settings Viewer, and then
click on the project settings column, and then click 'load' to
load a correct preset. Do the same with export settings.

    Hi,
I tried your vi: I don't get any error message after removing the disk but LV7 keeps on accessing the drive at regular intervals even if you stop the vi and close it!!! This is not supposed to happen.
The only way to stop it is exit LV7.
If you don't use the file dialog and you wire a full path, you don't get any problem.
I also created a very simple vi that conditionally writes a text file on a: and I got the same behaviour.
This problem occurs only with LV7, I tried the same examples in LV6.1 and everything was fine.
If anybody wants to try I attach this simple example,

  • "Error:Out of Disk Space" message. Why?

I've been using an Apple G4 with FCP2 to capture footage through a Sony DSR-11 deck. I've set up a LaCie 500GB 7200, with most of its 500GB available, as capture disk. As late as last summer I used this system to capture 70+ hours of footage which was then edited on another system.
This time I've met only problems. I've tried capturing 5 different DV tapes. They seem to be capturing but at the end of the hour I get the message "Error: Out of Disk Space".
Does anyone know why this might be happening? I've checked the set up and everything seems in order. (These tapes are 4:3, the ones captured last year were 16:9 DV, so the only adjustment I had to make was un-checking "anamorphic".) I even tried capturing to the MAC hard drive to see if the problem was the LaCie drive, but I get the same same message. (The LaCie I've been using had been full with last year's capture scratch and the disk had been erased through LaCie's Silverlining program, so for a while I began to think that this may be the problem; that maybe I'd have to reformat the disk, etc. but this test seems to rule that out.)
    Thanks.
    John

Since I last wrote I’ve changed hard drives, run tests on them, as well as trash my preferences, which I did earlier. Still, if I try to capture a tape (to disks with up to 460 GB available) I get the message “Error: Out of Disk Space”. The only thing I can think of doing now is deleting and then reinstalling the Final Cut software.
Here I’m kind of dumb and don’t want to make any mistakes. This Apple has been a stand-alone computer used only for Final Cut and the software was installed when I got it. The rest of my life has been conducted on a PC. So is there anything I should do before deleting Final Cut? Should I be doing anything to protect exiting project files, captured clips, thumbnail cache etc.? Will Final Cut just recognize these when I re-install? What do I do? Just open the Mac hard drive, identify the Final Cut application and drag it to Trash? Do I need to empty the trash first or should I leave it there for safety?
I look at the instructions that came with my ancient Final Cut 2 disks. Here’s what they say in full:
To install QuickTime, follow these steps
    1) Insert the Final Cut Pro CD in your CD drive. (I see I have two disks: one “Final Cut Pro 2”, the other “Final Cut Pro 2:Tutorial Media” Do I need to install the second?)
    2) Double-click the CD’s icon, then double-click the QuickTime Installer folder.
    3) Double-click the QuickTime Installer icon and follow the onscreen instructions.
    4) When the Choose Installation Type window appears, select Custom, then click Continue.
    5) In the next window, click Select All, then continue
This replaces any previous versions of QuickTime and ensures a complete installation of all components required by Final Cut Pro.
    6) When a message appears saying installation was successful, click Restart.
Is this all straightforward or might there be any potential pitfalls in the above instructions for someone unfamiliar with installing software on a Mac (In my case old software and an old Mac – a G4)? I guess I should also ask if you folks out there agree that re-installing Final Cut may be the answer to my problem, that this error message is the result of a glitch that has arisen in the installed version of Final Cut.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Time Machine does not cope well with nearly-full disk

Although Time Machine is supposed to delete old backups when the disk fills up, under some circumstances it does not cope well with a disk-full condition.
    Hardware: iMac (mid 2007)
OS: Mac OS X version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
The other day I noticed that I had not had a successful Time Machine backup in over a day. Backups were taking a long time to run (4 hours or more), during which time the backup disk was chattering constantly and the disk showed "Estimating index time" in the Spotlight menu (even though I had excluded the disk from Spotlight indexing). When the disk finally stopped chattering, the backup finished with no visible errors but Time Machine continued to state that the last successful backup was yesterday. The backup disk was nearly full, but I had assumed that Time Machine was designed to cope with this situation by deleting old backups.
A complete annotated log file of the incident and my observations can be found here: http://bentopress.com/backup.log.zip
Here are some of the interesting entries from the system.log file:

    Sep  7 16:26:15 Bento-iMac com.apple.backupd[56515]: Backup canceled.
Note the "error: 0". Error code zero normally indicates success.
There were also many, many, many copies of the following message, which occurred while Spotlight was trying to index the backup disk:
    Sep  7 17:28:40 Bento-iMac com.apple.backupd[58064]: Waiting for index to be ready (100)
Here's what I think is happening: at the very end of the backup, after the files have been copied to the backup disk, mds resets indexing because the disk is now full. backupd's attempt to flush the index to disk then fails because indexing is suspended (error zero), so the backup is canceled. I suspect that this may occur when the new backup and the old one(s) being deleted are both small enough that the disk "packs" tightly, leaving no room for the index. If a large (>500MB) old backup had been deleted to make room for a small (<100MB) new one, the problem would not have occurred.
I worked around the problem by switching Time Machine from the full disk to my Time Capsule. (I did not have this system backing up to the Time Capsule originally because I purchased the Time Capsule later for a different system.) The downside of this is that I lost access to older backups (though they are still accessible by right-clicking on Time Machine in the dock and selecting "Browse other Time Machine disks..."—however, I have not actually tried this). I'm also not completely happy having both my main systems backing up to the same hardware, but everything seems to be working well at this point and I do have a secondary backup system, using SuperDuper to clone the systems' disks to an external HD, which I do about once a month.
Although I have worked around the problem, I am posting this in the hope that it will be useful to someone else, in the hope that someone at Apple will notice and perhaps improve the performance of Time Machine in this situation, and also in the hope that someone can suggest a solution that does not involve throwing a bigger disk at the problem. Is there any way to free up space on Time Machine's backup disk, for example by manually pruning older backups, either through Time Machine itself or via the Finder or command line?

If you suspect that the disk being full is the problem, have you tried deleting some of the old backup data on the TM disk?
When in TM, go back to the past a long way, right click on a file/directory and select "delete backup". Do this on some big files you have (so that you get more space per removal) that you change all the time (so you'll still have recent backups).

  • Cisco Agent Desktop / Supervisor Desktop Issue with Full Disk Encryption

Has anyone had any issues related to running Cisco Agent Desktop or Cisco Supervisor Desktop on a machine running full disk encryption?  Our desktop team installed full disk encryption software from Check Point, and it seams to be causing some issues with call monitoring, screen pops via workflow and connectivity to the UCCX server.  It's not effecting every machine (that we know of), but the fix for us right now is to provide a desktop without the encryption software.  I'm just wondering if this is related to us, or if there is any supporting documentation out there?
    Any help is apprecicated.

CAD for IPCCX v4 does not support windows 7. See compatibility matrix:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_compatibility/matrix/crscomtx.pdf
In my experience if you already have CAD installed and you upgrade the OS (without a fresh rebuild) CAD will work - but it is NOT supported. You should test this though.
You will not be able to install the older version of CAD on windows 7, the installer will give you errors.

iDVD error message that iDVD unexpectedly quit. Every time I share from iMovie to iDVD and begin the burn process it comes back with an error message that iDVD has unexpectedly quit. It did not seem to do this before I loaded iLife. How do I resolve this? Hi Ron,
Been to S.N.O.B.? I love that restaurant!!!
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.
But I think your real problem is probably free space on your start-up drive, based on your comments. You should have 20GB+ free.

    Hi
Most probably it's the Start-Up/Boot/Mac OS hard disk that has less than 5Gb free space.
To let iDVD run OK - This Start-up hard disk should have 25Gb or more due to that
Your Mac is running a sort of UNIX (Mac OS) and this makes Mac OS and iDVD to use
lot's of temp files - AND they can not be addressed to any other hard disk at all.
More RAM - will not help
External/Second hard disk will if You first formatte it as Mac OS Extended and
move material over to this (or use it as Start-up hard disk)
External Start-up hard disk must be FireWire - NO USB2 will do this.
Must be Mac OS Extended formatted
Western Digital - My Book Serie - Can't do this.
My Lacie - works gladly as secondary start-up hard disk.

    Hi,
The 301 and 303 error codes would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the recovery issue.

I enabled the full disk encryption and during the encryption process I had a power failure.  Now my mac boots up, asks me for my login and password and then hangs in the apple logo and runs the processor and fans at full power.
I am assuming that it may be finishing the encryption but I have left it on for several hours and it just stays in the same screen.  I am running a 2008 Macbook Pro with a 2.8 dual core processor, 6MB ram and 750GB HD.
Does anyone know if it will eventually come back to life or should I be looking into rebuilding the drive?
    Thank you,

For MisterFlo and others interested I'll elaborate a bit more, it was late when I posted..
The Equium A300 was a Vista SP1 WinRE setup which requires the latest huge WAIK download you've mentioned (which supports Vista SP1 and Server 2008) plus also a Vista SP1 DVD or source files to create the ERD.
For the original Vista RE setups you will need the older WAIK (which is a paltry 800Mb) and likely the previous 2007 Optimization Park for the pre SP1 ERD plus of course a Vista source.
One final tip - don't boot off the HDD to try the repair until all the files are substituted and the permissions for the files you've replaced are fixed and the BCD else it's almost certain you'll get a 0xc000000f error - "the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"
