IDVD gives me gray bars on widescreen projects

It seems that my iDVD gives me gray bars on the side of my widescreen projects that I am trying to burn.
It actually makes the widescreen file...then, makes the video a 4:3 file (with these silly gray bars on the left and right) and then puts the widescreen file within this.
Here's a picture I put on my Photobucket site (to show what it looks like):
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i113/Tinmansm/Screenshot.jpg
Any ideas how to fix this so when I burn my files it DOSEN'T do that??
Thanks!

Alright, I unchecked the box but the problem still occurs. Regardless, I am not working with iMovie and shouldn't have to in order to get my iDVD to work properly...
I have an .avi file that I created on a different system that opens and plays in Quicktime as a WS file....when I drop it in to play, it gives me those bars on the right and left. I went to the mac store to look at their defaults and it dosen't do it for their projects.
Any idea why?

  • Idvd is burning a 4:3 standard project in 16:9 widescreen, distorting video

idvd is burning a 4:3 standard project in 16:9 widescreen distorting the video.  Export is fine in quicktime and I have double checked all project properties in idvd, I cannot figure this one out.  Everywhere I look its formated correctly, whenever I veiw the footage in idvd it gives me a "widescreen preview" and burns that way although no settings are set to 16:9.  Please Help!

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Combining 4:3 and 16:9 video in a single widescreen project

I am working on my first DV widescreen project in iMovie 6. The majority of the video footage I'm using was shot in 16:9 (widescreen) format and imported just fine. I then imported into the same project some additional footage from a friend's camera that was shot in standard 4:3 format, however, iMovie automatically imported all such clips as "stretched" apparently in order to fill up the full widescreen window. Is there some way I can have these 4:3 clips imported into a widescreen project without distorting their original 4:3 ratio (i.e. so that they can be incorporated in a widescreen project but with black bars on the side)?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   OWC 1.4 Ghz Processor, 17" Studio Display

Thanks Sue. I didn't think about importing the 4:3 footage into a separate "non-widescreen" and then cutting and pasting it into my widescreen project. My only concern is how the 4:3 clips will appear when pasted into the widescreen project. The article you linked states "iMovie HD will automatically convert the footage" so that it can be used in the new project. I'm wondering if this "conversion" means stretching out the 4:3 footage or simply pillerboxing it (which is what I want). I'll test it out when I get home tonight.

  • Settings for a widescreen project

    Hi all
I assume this is a basic question which the answer perhaps is still easier. I´m a Premiere basic user
I´m trying to make widescreen projects and use Encore to export a DVD which the video fits perfectly LCDs and Widescreen Tvs...So my workflow is:
I´m starting new projects using the DV-NTSC Folder > Widescreen 48khz
The imported videos come from a mix of 2 Panasonics AGDVC20P and 1 Sony HD1000. Sony HD1000 records 16:9 and Panasonics 4:3 (I use a little zoom at Premiere to fit the screen).
After finishing the Premiere I render the project and go File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore. Make the menus and build a DVD.
But the problem is: I perceive on my TV the image looks like 16:9 but black stripes still appears up and down the image (tested on various tvs and the same).
    What Am I missing?
Should be a different size than 720x480 and Pixel aspect ratio 1,2121 as Widescreen DV profile set?
    Anything at Encore?
Thank you a lot for the help.
    Gustavo.

    Gustavo,
Your end result should be DVD, which is 720 x 480 NTSC or 720 x 576 PAL.
Use a SD widescreen sequence setting and downrez your HDV or let the camera do that for you by capturing SD format. If you have captured HDV, you can either downrez by using Motion/Scale to fit your SD resolution or use Scale to frame. The latter has a small drawback in that it will result in small black bars left and right, that will normally not show up when played on a TV.

  • Widescreen projects longer than 60 min

It appears that iDVD 6 (version 6.0.1) cannot compress a widescreen (16:9) movie longer than 60 minutes (with the "High Quality" setting) to fit into one single-layer DVD disc. The resulting file is a little too long to burn the disc either directly from iDVD, or from a disc image.
Is there anyone who has completed such a project successfully? This forum indictes that many people have completed such projects in the 4:3 aspect ratio, but not 16:9.
Two calls to Apple have not resolved the problem.
    PowerMac G4/G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9) iLife06
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iLife06

many people have completed such projects in the 4:3 aspect ratio, but not 16:9.
I just encoded (Best Quality) a 1 hour 27 minute widescreen project last night. Now, Project Info says it's 4.2 of 4.2GB capacity, which I think is a bit odd... You'd expect that to be 75% of 4.2GB based on time alone. But the motion menus are 4:14 of 7:30, so that takes up some room. It may just be reflecting that the encoding "filled up" the disk image.
Another 45 minute widescreen project shows 1.7GB of 4.2GB. That has been encoded too. Seems aboout right.
I have seen others with "oversize" projects in iDVD 6.

  • New Widescreen Project in FCP 7

I'm currently working on a 4:3 project, and I want to open a new project that
has a 16:9 format. How do I go about this?
I found the option to change the capture settings, but the canvas window still is at a 4:3 ratio.
How do I make the canvas window 16:9??

What I'm trying to do is get 16:9 proportions to work in, and then enlarge my 4:3
footage until it's cropped off. I don't want to have to import my footage again.
Also, when I drag the handles of the gray bar to zoom in or out of my timeline -
by extending it horizontally - is there a way to center that enlargement on the playhead?
It would really save me a lot of time not to have to scroll back to find my playhead again.

  • Gray bars on fillable forms?

I am frequently emailed lineage forms to fill out, print and mail back to the senders. However, the last two Adobe Acrobat forms I've received have gray bars highlighting the line to be filled in with text. I fill it in but the gray bar remains. It even prints my forms with the gray bar still there even though it doesn't even match the space of my text.
What gives? How can I get rid of those gray bars so that my form is neat, filled out, and printed?
    Thanks,
    MiddleGeorgiaGenie

That is hard to say without seeing the forms. There are many properties for a form filed that include filing the field with color, showing various borders, highlighting required fields.
Are the forms coming from the same source?
Does this happen to all forms?

  • Thin gray bars top and bottom

After a lockup where I had to hard reboot and restore, two thin gray bars appeared on screen, at very top and very bottom. They hid the small battery icon at top.
Called Apple and they will give me a new one. Could not find other topics online about this same hardware issue. Seems it was the screen board that was defective. This occurred only after about 6 weeks of use.

Yeah the thin lines were not there originally on the iPod Touch. They appeared suddenly and hid about 3/4 of the small battery icon right across the top and bottom, so definitely a defect. The lines would not flip when the iPod was placed in landscape mode. They were along the top and bottom only (portrait mode and did not disappear when placed landscape).
This was after my screen went completely WHITE and I couldn't return to normal until I pressed the power and mode buttons.
Must admit Apple was on the ball and gave me no hassle. They sent me a prepaid box within a day, in which I placed the iTouch, and I simply called UPS for pickup as pre-established in the instructions. Painless and free. All labels were preprinted.

  • Trying to make a disc.img from an iMovie project get the mssage that some of the audio clips are not available. The clips still show as green bars in the project but do not play.

I successfully made a disc.img and then burned a DVD of the project but found an error in a title. Went back to the project, corrected the error, and tried to create a new disc.img but got the message that some of the audio tracks were unavailable. They still show as green bars in the project but do not play. Tried deleting and reinstalling them with no success. They do play in iTunes and in the iMovie editing pane
    Thank you

... The goal is a ScrollPane that automatically wraps the text inside it. I've just about got it, but I have one thing that's not working. If I just put the JTextArea{s} in as the Editor, then you lose the any text that doesn't fit inside whatever the initial size was. Instead, I put the JTextAreas inside a JScrollPane which works fine, except that I still have to determine the size of the JScrollPane in advance. I would like to make each Editor/JScrollPane start out with just a single line of text and expand until it reaches a certain small number of lines.

}OP, your code was too long and complicated for me to compile and run. However, aren't you forgetting the two simple methods <tt>JTextArea.setLineWrap()</tt> and <tt>JTextArea.setWrapStyleWord()</tt>? Furthermore, I absolutely see no need for you to extend SWING components for demonstration this simple -- that is, if I understand your problem correctly.

  • I have a 2 inch gray bar across the top of my home page now after dragging a few windows around my desk top. I'm not sure if it's a mozilla thing or google thing but it just appeared and I would like to get rid of it. g

My home page is just www.google.com with a search box and a picture of some planets as a background from my computer. While I was dragging the restored down browser window, I slipped with my mouse and now I have a light gray two inch bar across the top of my background picture. It's below the; Search-Images-YouTube-News-Gmail-More icons. When I right click on it and select inspect Element (Q) it says div#gbx1.gbqfh in three different colors. I would like to get rid of it, but I don't know if it's a google or Mozilla issue. I know google has been changing things so it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a coincidence.

Is there any text in that gray bar?
I see some buttons on it, do they have a tooltip?

  • Video on TV out has gray bars

I've been adding some videos to the iPhone and they look and play just fine on the phone and on the computer. However, when I hook it up to my plasma, I will get some translucent gray bar on the bottom of the video. The rest of the area above the bar plays just fine and looks great. The wierd thing is, it only pops up on some videos; not all. Most of the videos play just fine with the exception of these few. Is it a problem with the aspect ratio of the video? What is causing this problem? I'd like to play all of my videos without problems on my plasma or anyone's TV for that matter.

    lordodin99,
You may want to try with some videos from the iTunes Store to see if the issue still occurs. You can find some free videos to download here:

  • Give me some ideas for the project.

    Hi,folks
I am not familiar with programming in web services. Now i have a project related to web services need to finish. I want to someone give me some ideas for the project. how can i implement the access control services. is there anyone can give me some related links for me to learn.
Project Title: Implementing an access control service
    Project Description:
Web services are emerging as a new approach to system construction and will make a major impact on the engineering of future business systems. They will allow a move from enterprise to inter-enterprise computing. However, with inter-enterprise computing, there are major problems with providing access to shared data, given that enterprises will not wish to share all data with partners.
This project aims to investigate this problem by developing a prototype of an access control service that will help decide whether or not data access should be permitted. In essence, companies will outsource their access control to this service and so will not need to maintain their own access control lists for a potentially rapidly changing set of users.
    Suggested Platform: Windows or Linux
    Suggested Languages & Tools: Java

Well, the approach I've come accross is a central server which is typically accessed indirectly from the web servers (e.g. through SOAP protocol or RMI).
The remote server sends a user id and a password (or more likely a digest of the password), and receives a session token, basically just a random string of characters which is checked with the central server each time a secure transaction is attempted. The token will be stored in a session object, or perhaps directly in a cookie or in the URLs.
Active session tokens are stored on the central server for comparison. This means the password doesn't have to be retained in the server.
It's possible for the session token to be transfered if the user switches from one site to another on the same authentication server.

  • HELP! Moving timeline from Standard to Widescreen Project

I use Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5 and am in the middle of a large project.
I was given the project in a file which the sequence 1 timeline contains all movie files however the project is in Standard not Widescreen (cutting out the sides of the videos and won't look good on a TV)
What is the best solution for moving the timeline (in it's current format with seperated and editable files including audio) to a widescreen project?
    Thanks, Tim.

Open a new sequence and copy / paste all the clips ( Select all)  from the the other ....into it.

What can I do to get the gray bar at the bottom of the screen back?
My iPhone has lost the ability to reply or forward or initiate new messages.

Hit the '''Alt''' key to show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark.
