IDVD hangs in rendering menu stage

I'm running iDVD on my G4 1.73 dual and using the Pass through theme. Sure, there are lot's of photos and video vx but what good are they if the system hangs. Since the hang is serious as my pointer doesn't even move, I assume a restart and rework of the 17 minute movie is in order, maybe a different theme(?). I'm trashing the .plist in the restart but beyond spending more time reworking my flashy movie, what are my other alternatives? Are there some updates on the horizon that will actually make this software work?

Start here:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2466511#2466511
If you're guessing it's your "flashy movie" try exporting it to full quality DV which will pre-render everything, and use that in iDVD.
Also themes can get corrupted, so trying a new theme is a good idea too.
Finally download this:

If you want more info......yes it is for iDVD5, but most of the tips are still good.

  • Idvd 08 error rendering menu

I try to make a dvd from final cut express, but idvd always tell me the same error (error during rendering menu), even if I change themes. I tried with roxio toast and it works well, but I can't have chapters. I don't know if the same film would have been good with idvd 06, because since I bought Ilife 08, Idvd 06 has disappeared from my computer.I am quite disapointed by Ilife 08, because Imovie is much less interesting for me to make movies (so I bought FCE). If Idvd doesn't works, I think I will be quite angry....
    Could someone help me ?
Sorry for my english, it's not my natural language...

Thank you for your quick answer, I'll try to give you all specs :
    1. Imac 24" intel 2.16 core 2 duo
    2. On main startup volume, 60.31 Go avalaible. I work with an external HD with raid 1 from Synology and 200 Go available.
    3. 2 Go Ram memory
    4. S.drive
    5. Two kinds of video : from a Sony DV imported as dv, and from a Panasonic SD imported as .mov.
    6. I export as quicktime sequence with chapter marks, not autonome (it doesn't works, it makes 5 sequences of 2 Go and they are not recognized as qt format). The export is good as qt sequence, I can read it.
    7. Yes I run on monday (I think it is the latest update)
    8. I didn't download IDVD 6, because I didn't know that it was avalaible. (I did it for Imovie6)
After I wrote you yesterday, I tried something else :
Reading FAQ about Idvd, I learnt that chapter markers must be at least 2 seconds after transition, so I erase all markers and re positioned them as said. Since than moment, when I render and save, and then export as QT sequence, it appears in IDVD without markers !!! I tried 6 or 7 times changing name, markers etc.. Nothing good...
I have also tried to export the whole project as dv with markers, the sequence is 7 Go but markers are not appearing in IDVD and the quality is quite bad.
    Thanks a lot

  • IDVD hangs while "rendering video asset"

I've tried to burn the same project with several different themes.
iDVD keeps hanging in step 2, clock stops, spinning beachball...time remaing 11 minutes (it doesn't always hang in exactly the same spot from a time remaining count.)
I've read some threads here, I have plenty of open disc space (47 GB).
    Anything I should try?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm not sure if the follwing is a clue, but I don't think I can force quit, I need to force a restart by holding down the power key.
I say I don't think I can fore quit because I am not sure if I have tried all the options to cause a "force quit". In leopard, is there a keyboard short cut as Option - Command - Escape doesn't seem to work? As I stated before I can't get the machine to respond to use FQ in the apple menu.
After I figure out the force quit, what should I try next to get Idvd to burn?
Should I try deleting preferences? If so, where are they and what specifially should I delete?
BTW, the inability to burn is relatively new, I have successsfully burned dvds on ths machine before. I think it was actually before the latest QT update.

  • Does iDVD work with Maverick? This is the first time I tried to burn a DVD using iDVD after upgrading to Maverick. It seems to get stuck at encoding menu stage and not doing anything.

I tried to burn a DVD using iDVD after upgrading to Maverick, first time I tried after upgrading to Maverick a few weeks ago. It seems to get stuck at encoding menu stage and not doing anything. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I did not have a DVD handy to burn but I have just created a small 2 minute video and created a Disk Image and also a VIDEO_TS folder, the encoding worked correctly, so it works with some items.

  • When Burning IDVD hangs at Encoding Audio

    I have a 2 GHz PowerPC G5 iMac
    1.5 GB DDR SDRAM
    SuperDrive - Double Layer dvds
This is my first time using IDVD - I have a 2 hour movie that I am trying to burn.
It hangs and gives me the multicolored wheel when it is trying to encode the music during the burn process. It took about 5 hours to get to the point that it is now, and then an extra 3 since the multicolored wheel has been up. I have read other posts and some say, let it spin, and eventually it will finish. But I am not sure if they mean when the multicolored wheel is showing. Does anyone know what I need to do? I am desperate for HELP!!

Strange how I can't edit my post now even though it's only been half an hour...
I checked on the progress of the burn and the audio was finally encoded after about five to ten minutes of the "spinning lollipop". It said it was encoding the audio and seemed to hang, but when I went back to check on it the DVD was already burned. I looked for other advice on these boards and people recommend taking the MOV file from your iMovie project and dumping that directly into iDVD instead of exporting from iMovie to iDVD. To do that, control-click (or right-click) on your iMovie project icon in the Finder. Go to Shared Movies > iDVD and find the MOV file in that folder.
Many people have had this problem with iDVD hanging at the "Encoding Audio" stage, but if you leave it long enough, it will eventually finish. I think it's just a bug with the progress bar.
    Good luck.
P.S. the movie that I was burning is only about 7 minutes long. I had first tried burning it from my PowerMac G4 but moved to an iMac G5 for my final attempt at burning and it now works. The first time around on the G4 the audio never finished encoding but after moving the iDVD project (and all the support files), it burned the DVD without any problems.

  • MacBook Pro Freezes while rendering menu's

I Got a new MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz (Nov 2), with plenty of hard drive space left (80G), decided to create an iMovie which was great no problems here, then decided wanted to burn to DVD. Created a DVD using the Wedding 07 theme and then went to try and create the disc image.
The Mac freezes after about a 1/3rd of the way through while trying to render the menus, causing me to do a hard reboot. I read several topics in here, trying to fix it:
    Deleting the com.apple.plist file
    resetting the permissions,
using an older theme (got further but still froze after about 2/3rdss of rendering menu's).
Setting the chapter buttons to still's rather than moving images
All to no avail still cant get it to work.
I created another short iMovie, with no chapters, just one menu, put some pics in, music etc and that worked. This leaves me to believe the problem lies in having the chapters in the DVD.
I know quite a few of you have experienced this, has anyone found a way of getting around it or is it we have to wait until an update is released from Apple?

I've been having the same problem with my macbook pro since november. I've been watching these forums to see if anyone has figured out the problem but I can wait any longer so I called apple. I've spent at least 8 hours on 5 different phone calls with 5 different people over the last two weeks. My computer still is not fixed. And from the sounds of the people I've talked to, they have no idea that there is even a problem with some of the macbook pros. I have done everything that they can think of including completely erasing and reinstalling my operating system and testing idvd with a file sent to me from apple. I was able to narrow down my problem to having videos in the drop zones of submenus. I can burn a dvd with as many submenus as I want as long as there are pictures in the drop zones. It burns fine with a picture in the drop zone. I can even burn a dvd with video in one menu drop zone and pictures in the rest. It doesn't matter which menu the video is in, as long as there is only one menu drop zone with video the dvd will burn. Is anyone else getting the same result?

I am trying to burn an iDVD, but get message menu contains no buttons. How do I fix this issue?

That essentially means that there's been no videos or slideshows added to the project as each of those items will create a button to play.  What have you added to the project?

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

  • Why "Lighting Effects.plugin" in FIlter folder does not appear in the Rendering menu?

Photoshop CS5 - I need to work with the "Lighting Effects.plugin".
The plug-in is correctly installed into Adobe Photoshop CS5.1>Plug-ins>Filters but it NOT APPEAR rolling down the RENDERING menu!!
How can I make it visible?
    Thank you

That particular filter was not updated/upgraded to 64 bits, therefore you need to launch Photoshop as a 32-bit application.

In 64-bit versions of Mac OS 10.5 and later, some older, optional plug-ins are available only if Photoshop is running in 32-bit mode:
In the Finder, choose Go > Applications.
Expand the Photoshop folder. Then right-click the Photoshop application icon, and choose Get Info.
In the General section of the Info window, select Open In 32-bit Mode.

  • IDVD hangs starting from Finder

The first time iDVD was started on my system was by calling "send to iDVD" in iPhoto, it hung.
Since then iDVD hangs after creating a new project or opening an existing one. I guess while loading theme(s). The application window does not show up at all until the application is shut down by ctrl-click on the app icon. After this the iDVD appliction has to be killed.
So far I did already ...
    - repaired pemissions on Volume
    - reinstalled iDVD from MacBook Install Disk
    - replaced Themes
    - deleted com.apple.iDVD.plist Files
    - created a new User
    - deleted QuickTime Components
    - reinstalled QuickTime mpeg2 support
This is the first time I (try to) work with iDVD.
    ## surprisingly everything works just fine when iDVD
    ## is started by command line from a terminal window.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
Computer: MacBook 13'', Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHz
    iDVD-Version: 7.0.1 (1091)
    OS Version: 10.5.1 (Build 9B18)
    ... 60GB free disk space

I'd like to know what is up as well. I haven't gone to the same lengths with reinstalls, but I get essentially the same situation. iDVD simply will not open. The iDVD icon in the dock bounces a bit, but that is all. Can't get it to open from Applications folder. Can not get to open from either iPhoto or iMovieHD (I haven't yet used iMovie08). Yet, GetInfo records IDVD as having been opened.
    Any ideas, anyone?

  • AE CS3 hanging during rendering?!

When rendering(sometimes?!)it hangs. Looking at the processes though they're still ticking over.
I have a Quad Extreme Xeon and discovered when it is rendering there are 4 processes rendering, if I kill one (when it hangs) the rendering usually kicks into life again?? Though when you render next time your a processor down and if you try it a second time it hangs completely :(
Any ideas whats happening and how to fix it?
Please help as this is really frustrating!
    MF

How much RAM do you have? What format do you render to? What CoDecs do the sources use (if any)? Multiprocessing crashes/ hangs either occur due to insufficient RAM or the CoDecs conking out. Especially the latter is a rather regular occurence, as most CoDecs are not fully multithreaded/ parallelized. also make sure your disks are fast enough. One instance having to wait for another to finish writing frames can also make it go too sleep (if it thinks it takes too long) and then they mutually lock each other....

  • Error rendering Menu in iDVD

I am trying to burn a movie using iDVD. And I seem to always have this problem, but the answers I get, will solve it then, but now I am doing everything right, yet it still is giving me a problem.
I am getting an error during the rendering of the menu. The audio clip I am using I converted to Aiff since I know the latest update of iDVD is having problems with mp3/mp4 audio formats, I am using a theme that only has the background pick. I have no slideshows, just a movie button, and changed the title of the theme. Yet I get an error.
Would the movie I put into the movie button be causing the error?
I had problems with the movie, so I had to snatch the audio from it, and then convert both the audio and video using ffmpegX, and then I muxed them using D Vision 3. And now the finished project ends in (mp4.ff (mux).avi). Will that not work in iDVD?
Toast will accept it, but I'd rather have it burnt using iDVD. Anyone have any ideas?
    thanks in advance...
    veganjustice

I tried importing into iMovie using the orginal, and it won't accept it. It is in mp4 format.
    Here is what I did.
I had a movie, worked perfectly in VLC, but QT wouldn't play it. So I converted it using ffmpegX, and then the finished product played fine in QT, but there was no sound.
So someone on videohelp told me to extract the audio, and then mux the finished video, and audio. Which worked. QT would play it with sound and video.
So what I have now, is the orginal, just the video, just the audio, and the muxed version. haha.
Which should I import into iMovie? Since it won't take the orginal?
thanks, sorry this is so long.

  • IDVD quits unexpectedly during menu rendering. I have burned a similar project before and it worked just fine. Suggestions?

I have iDVD for iLife'11. Every time I try to burn my current project, iDVD unexpectedly quits around the same time during the rendering menus process. My macbook pro is practically brand new, and I have succesfully burned a very similar (and larger) project before with no problems. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

    Hi
    My first thoughts
    • free space on start-up (Mac OS) hard disk - less than 25Gb (not probably on a new Mac Book Pro)
    • corrupted iDVD Pref file - trash it and re-start iDVD. (Or even better - start a new User Account and log into this and re-try - this forces Your Mac to do lot's of new error free pref files.
    • corrupted project - Start a brand new one - Don't use old problematic one
    • jumping from iDVD back to movie editor - results in iDVD BUG. Start a new iDVD project - or trash movie in iDVD and clean Media Assetts. Then re-try.

  • IDVD Hangs every time since most recent updates

my computer installed the updates as usual when i get a software update. i ran disk utility and it showed a lot of ACL found but not expected and Warning: SUID file has been configured but will not be repaired. The Apple guy at the genius bar said this was normal with Leopard. i don't know what the last two updates were, i can't remember how to recheck what i did, but now, iDVD will not open. it'll bounce on the dock, then hang up. i just burned 2 dvds last night form iMovie. someone help please...

Yeah - well to be precise, it renders the menus (stage 1) and then moves on to rendering the slideshow (61 photos) and then hangs at that point. This is a complete system hang - I can't kill any applications, nothing fixes this apart from a hard reset.
I ended up going back to a 6.0 Theme, and it worked first time - reading another thread here others are suggesting it's bugs in 7.0 Themes, and iDVD 08.... I'd believe it given the fix of 6.0 Theme.
