Idvd help

Why won't my dvd play continuously on the idvd movie I just made? After every clip it goes back to the title menu...

Hi
or if You want my way of saying the very same - Old Toad's description is 100% - but may be I use another word and twist to it that might be of help.
If not - just skipp it - no offence
Play all resp one chapter at a time
Play All Button
1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
2. It can be faked in several ways
Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in hight. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
Summary
a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • I've lost iDVD help!

    Hi,
I'm new to Macs and have recently upgraded to iLife 08 on my iMac. iDVD will now not launch at all. I tried reinstalling it and even tried to install the 06 version back with my install discs, all to no avail. I have found the following log and wondered if anyone could help me fix it.

Btw ...the only way I know of to address a vanished iDVD Help Menu is to reinstall iDVD.
    Good luck.

  • 2 Questions - iDVD help and Storage -

    I have 2 questions
    1) I recently loaded iDVD 6 from and iLife disc that I purchased and cannot get
the iDVD help to open. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
    2) After creating an iDVD project I moved it to an external hard. When I tried to open it wont work because of all the pathways that point to the movie, audio and video files have changed. Is there anyway to save a DVD project so that you can open it and burn another DVD at a later date. If not it seems stupid that you have to save all movie files, audio files and picture files in thier respective pathways in order to aceess and burn another DVD at a later date. It makes it so you cannot store a DVD project and save on space by trashing those files. Any Ideas

  • Help Viewer can't handle IDVD Help URL

I am seeing the following message when I try to access iDVD Help.
Help View does not know how to handle the seclected URL.
    The selected URL is: /Applications/iDVD.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/iDVD Help/iDVD Help.html
I can open the file if I go to /Applications/iDVD.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/iDVD Help/iDVD Help.html and double clip on the file.
    Has anyone else seen this?

    Hi, Tony.
If you're running Mac OS X 10.4.3 as your profile indicates, update to Mac OS X 10.4.6. See the sections:
    • "Help Viewer displays a blank window."
    • "Help Viewer links do not work"
in my "Troubleshooting Help Viewer" FAQ. That should solve the problem so you don't have to disconnect your Ethernet cable to use Help Viewer.
    Good luck!

  • QT Movie won't drop into iDVD  HELP!

Of course I'm down to the last minute again:
I've got a 540 KB QT Movie exported in full quality DV from iMovie 3.03.
Upon opening iDVD 2.1 and attempting to import or drag and drop the QT movie from my desktop, iDVD appears to do nothing and a button for my movie DOES NOT appear anywhere in my project.
7.6 G available on my hard drive right now. Can I delete the still images from iPhoto I used to make my iMovie to free up hard drive space? (Or are they still linked through some sort of database type of mechanism?)
Any speedy help is greatly appreciated!

I've got a 540 KB QT Movie exported in full quality
    DV from iMovie 3.03.
Full quality DV should run about 13 GB per hour. - That's about 3.6 MB per second.
If what you have is 540 KB, what you have is a Reference Movie and NOT a Self-Contained QuickTime movie. If you have done anything to the pictures/clips used to create this Reference Movie, it won't work.
Please verify the size of your movie.

  • Keynote to iDvd: HELP PLEASE

I'm at the end of my wits, can someone please help?
    Keynote presentation to idvd:
when I use the share menu, it works but looks really bad. When I say it works it means that the movie stops where it should and the presenter can hit play and carry on.
How can I make it look better?
I've tried exporting to QT » iMovie » iDVDV although looking much better the movie doesn't stop at the end of a slide.

DVDs are not just video files burned to a disc; they must be authored into a proper format with playback control, menus, and scripts. iDVD makes it laughably easy to do this. But if you want the kind of control that you are used to in a slideshow presentation, then you probably have to get something like Final Cut Studio, and learn DVD Studio Pro. Fine control and ease of use or usually trade offs.
Have you ever used an actual DVD with the kind of interactivity that you are talking about? If so, then it was painstakingly authored with something like DVD Studio Pro, or Vegas, or Encore.

  • IMovie and iDVD help with low quality

I am working on a large project that consists of 480 still photos that will be set to music with motion, etc that is 1.3GB total. When I import them into iMovie the project quickly becomes 15GB+. I then exported it full quality to iDVD which compressed it to around 2.5GB. My issue is that the quality is bad...wavy type pictures, etc. Is this because I have too many pictures and the project is too big? What should my settings in iMovie be to get the best quality project. The photos are high quality shot with a digital SLR and look great by themselves so I know it's not the pictures themselves. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!

There are a heap of threads on how to improve the quality of your photo's from iMovie to iDVD. Any reason you are using iMovie for a slideshow? Do you have video in the project as well? I say this because iMovie is essentially a video editing tool, rather than a slideshow application. I use either iPhoto, FotoMagico or iDVD direct to make my slideshows. ALL much better quality than from iMovie.
My first project was a still photo slideshow made in iMovie and I was really disappointed with the end product (pretty much as you described it). It was recommended to me to try a couple of things.
    1. Import your photo's with KB turned on (although this seemed to make my photos worse - it seems to work for some).
    2. DON'T EXPORT or SHARE your iMovie with iDVD. Rather, save it and close iMovie. Then open your iDVD project and your finder where you will find your project listed in the movie folder. Drag it's virtual icon and drop it onto your iDVD menu. I found this worked particularly well for me. If you DO export or share with iDVD make sure you don't allow it to re-render things (it asks permission). That also may make a difference.
    3. When you eventually go to burn your disc, save it as a disk image (the option just under the burn button in iDVD). Once it is saved to disk (this will take a while to render, so perhaps do it over night) then you can view it in your DVD player and if all is ok, burn it through Disk Utility or Toast at a speed of 1x or 2x.
Hope these ideas provide some help.

  • FCE/iDVD HELP

    iDVD Problems
Two days ago I was burning DVD disks without a problem on my 21.5" Intel iMac with OS v10.6.2. All of a sudden on each try in the Multiplexing part of the BURN cycle, with about 13 minutes remaining, I get the messages: “You inserted a blank DVD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore”, and, “Multiplexer Error - There was an error during formatting.”
To begin with when starting the burning sequence the program asks for a disk to be installed and a BLANK DVD is a natural.
Concerning the Multiplexing error, I went to the iDVD website and researched my problem with no positive results.
Thinking through this problem I did the following steps:
1 Recorded the program on my PowerBook 15” with OS 10.4.6 into Final Cut Express v2.0.3 and edited as necessary.
I used one “Chapter Marker” to combine two sequences.
2 Exported the project to “Quicktime v7.1.3” and checked to make sure the project worked, including the Chapter Marker, and it worked as it should.
3 I then moved that Quicktime Movie to my main computer, a 21.5” iMac using OS X v10.6.2 and again checked to make sure it still worked, including the Chapter Marker, and again it worked as it should.
4 Opened iDVD and set up for burning the same way I did two days ago.
At this time (13 minutes from completion) I got the above mentioned window messages.
Thinking that the problem was again connected to the “Chapter Marker” I went back to the FCE version and removed the “Chapter Marker” but my result was the same.
I then tried burning the project using another Theme to see if this would cure the problem but that didn’t work either.
I then tried to do the burning on the original PowerBook both with and without the “Chapter Marker,” with the same result.
Ran TechTool Deluxe and ALL areas PASSED.
Eliminated FCE Preference files and even uninstalled FCE and a fresh install.
Now, putting aside my 21.5” iMac and concentrating on my PowerBook where the process starts, I now get, when I try to put the movie into iDVD (Marquee Theme), the movie replaces the words in the Marquee and what I get in the main portion of the Marquee are two buttons, “Play Movie” and Scene Selection”
I moved the movie to my 17” Flat Screen iMac which runs OS v10.4.11. When I tried to burn the DVD on that, I got the same result as before.
I believe my whole problem is something on my PowerBook but I’m at a loss what to do next.
Sorry this is quit long but I wanted to be as complete as possible.
Any HELP would be greatly appreciated.

    2/2/10
This morning I rerecorded my project on my 17” Flat Screen iMac, OS X 10.4.11 then editing in FCE v2.0.3. When done, I imported it into QT Player 7.1.3. When I imported it into iDVD v5.0.1 it worked as it should i.e., The name on the Marquee stayed with my “Now Showing” name and the movie went into the proper place.
I then transferred this QT project to my PowerBook (PowerBook G4 15", Mac OS X (10.4.6)) and then inserted it into iDVD v5.0.1 BUT this gave me the same result I had before i.e. the movie replaces the words in the Marquee and what I get in the main portion of the Marquee are two buttons, “Play Movie” and Scene Selection”
I upgraded the PowerBook from OS X 10.4.6 to OS X 10.4.11, reinstalled FCE v2.0.3 and QT 7.1.3. I then rerecorded my project on the PowerBook, edited in FCE and converted to QT 7.1.3. and then inserted it into iDVD v5.0.1 BUT this gave me the same result I had before i.e. the movie replaces the words in the Marquee and what I get in the main portion of the Marquee are two buttons, “Play Movie” and Scene Selection”
It works fine on my 17" flat screen but not on the PowerBook. Checking the settings on both computers they are set up the same.
Now I’m at a loss and think tomorrow I will start over by reinstalling the original OS X software, zeroing out the computer and build it up again unless someone can give me a better idea.

  • 0 For 3 In Making My First iMovie With iDVD  (help!!)

    Hello all,
I have just made my first attempt at making a DVD (via iMovie & iDVD). Firstly, this took a while, because the content (our honeymoon) was made w/ a mini-DVD camcorder (we've since exchanged for a Mini-DV camcorder), and I had to upload the movie to my Mac (miniDVD-->miniDV tap-->imported to Mac via iMovie {as one long clip which I segmented by hand later). Not sure if this was the best way of converting, but everything appeared to be going alright. Until....
Yesterday, I made my first attempts at taking my iMovie Project to iDVD to burn a DVD. Now everything looked ok. I played the movie in iMovie (everything good), and I set up everything in iDVD (and everything looked good). Unfortunately, the point where I have issues begin when I start to BURN a DVD.
Info on movie: it's about 59min; some music from my iTunes library; 4.0 Themes.
    Attempt #1
After about 2.5hrs, I checked status, and iDVD was in a spinning ball state. This was during the "encoding audio" portion of process. Activity Monitor said iDVD & encoding server were "not responding". iDVD eventually QUIT.
    Attempt #2
I then "deleted encoded assets" (found this suggestion from this forum), and made another attempt. This time I checked iDVD more frequently and watched specifically around the point when "encoding audio" began. This time iDVD made it through this process. And after an overall time of ~3hrs, my DVD popped out!!
I plopped it in my separate dvd player (and later MBP DVD Player app), and I got this frustrating result: audio for the menus (4.0 Fish theme), but no audio for ANY movie content! ugh!
    Attempt #3
Once again after finding suggestions in this forum, I went about Saving As Disk Image via iDVD, and then went to bed. I woke up this morning to see that overnight, iDVD had "unexpectedly quit".
I'm at my witt's end here. I've read many forum threads w/ similar symptoms, but haven't found anything conclusive. There are a few things I may try:
o Import miniDVD directly to Mac via camcorder (no tape transfer)
o Not use any iTunes music in project
o Try a more "basic" them (not use movie clips)
In case you were wondering Disk Space shouldn't be an issue. The iMovie Project took up about ~20GB, and I still have about 70GB left out of the "spec-ed" 120GB (this is on a MacBook Pro w/ 2GB of RAM).
As you may guess, I'm a total iMovie/iDVD novice. I tried all the obvious things for making this movie and it didn't work. It seems I need a "work-around" here to make this movie. I thought this was "supposed" to be easy!
    Please help!!
MacBook Pro (2.33GHz)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   120GB Hard Drive

Hey Sue Thanks for the quick response!!
Yeah, with regards to the DVD camera, that was a wedding gift out of my control (I had a nice miniDV on our registry, too!). oh well!
Is it really encoding audio from a DVD even though I saved the DVD movie onto a miniDV tape & then handled it that way on my Mac?
As for all my music media, they were all from my iTunes library and were AAC files. I had one of them which was "protected" (i.e. an itunes purchase). I just now removed it.
As for the DVD Media, I'm using TDK DVD-R. (should mention I actually have made another movie. However this was with video from someone's camcorder (i.e. really grainy). I just wanted to give it a try. I made this w/ a TDK DVD-R. However this is my first "real" movie.
Ok so, I'm giving it a 4th try. This time I'll:
o Remove the Protected iTunes song from iMovie & Save Project
o Trash the preference files from iDVD
o Run "Repair Disk Permission" via Disk Utility
    o Save iMovie Project
o Share iMovie Project to iDVD & then give it another try!
Wish me luck! (& Thanks for the help!)

  • Rogue Sound when exporting to iDVD - HELP!!!!!!

I wonder if anyone can help. i have spent 100's of hours putting together a 50 minute movie that combines lots of clips from the same source together with stills. I have used multiple transitions and I am using the photograph theme.
I have two problems. Firstly although the movie plays perfect sound throughout in imovie when I export it ti IDVD the movie sound deteriorates for the middle part of the movie only. Despite having set the sound to zero on the clip - as I am using background music the sound still plays. i can't get rid of it. i have tried deleting and re-adding the clips from the source event, detached the audio, you name it and yet I cannot get rid of the sound. Secondly and again only in this middle section I have rogue sound appearing at a particular point in the film from a clip which is earlier in the movie - almost as if the sound has become detached and moved. I have checked and checked but can't fix it. I even exported the soundtrack only to Imovie to see if that would work but it did not. I AM OPEN TO ANY IDEAS - HELP

Is it realistic to think Apple will fix the bug soon?
We're not supposed to speculate here - no-one but Apple would know anyway! Hopefully, the next version upgrade (? iMovie '10) might address it.
One option for you would be to use the free program JES Deinterlacer to do your speed changes. My understanding is that it does a better job of slow and fast motion than iMovie. You would need to import your clips into JES, process them, export from JES, then re-import to iMovie - all a bit messy! But you would get the desired result.
If you leave the clips in iMovie with their current speed settings, you will almost certainly experience the audio glitches on export. So, you either need to change the speed to the presets, or use a 3rd party product such as JES Deinterlacer to set the speed for you. Bear in mind I haven't tested this (with JES) but believe it should work.
The product can be downloaded from this site:
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html
A link to an 18 MB video (by David Lute) showing a comparison of JES Deinterlacer slow-motion vs. iMovie slow-motion can be found about one third the way down the page. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the iMovie version used for the test.

  • Burning Disc in idvd help!!

I am unable to burn my iDVD project onto my Memorex Lightscribe CD-R discs! I was able to burn onto my Memorex Lightscribe  R discs, but then they won't play on my dvd players.  I was told -R would play on my dvd players, but now I can't get it to burn. When I insert my -R discs, it tries to read it in iDVD but then ejects it immediately.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
The following will let you make sure the encoding is good before you commit to burning and help avoid making "coasters":
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Idvd help merging videos

Hey OK i have looked online everywhere and have tried everything but i can't figure out how to do this. What i am trying to do is......I have 6 videos in my event library that I want to put on a dvd i know how to do this but I want to make those 6 videos merge as one. So when I put it in my dvd player I can somehow play all of them right after each other without going to the menu to click the next one. It's a wedding video of myself and my husband that a friend put together for us and when i uploaded it to my computer it broke it into like 6 chapters instead of 1 whole video. I hope this makes sense. Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.
    Samantha

Chapters are not at all the same as 6 separate videos. A chapter is the same as a scene on a given video. From the scene selection menu one can click on any of the chapters (or scenes) and start playback at that particular point up to and including the end of the video. At the end of the video it will by default return to the main menu.
Assuming you were to have 6 actual QT movies (as opposed to 6 chapters) on the same DVD, then the entry menu would let you know this (normally) by providing a choice for the viewer to click on any of the six movies. And in this scenario the dvd will play each movie separately but not one after the other nor until the end of all 6 movies. Instead it would return to the menu after each movie. You could use an app like QT pro that allows for editing all 6 movies into one. And in turn you could then use that longer movie within iDvd (assuming total playback is 2 hours or less).
Hope this helps but if not, came on back.

  • Combo Drive Problem - External Replacement - iDVD Help

Recently the Combo Drive on my flat panel iMac went bad. It no longer does anything. I see that this is a common senerio.
I just purchased an external CD/DVD multi recorder (HP 940 - USB). It works great went burning CD's (from iTunes) and Burn folders. However, whenever I try to burn from iDVD the computer doesn't seem to know that it is plugged in. It just ejects my internal combo drive drawer which doesn't work. Does anyone know how to get the iMac to recognize an external burner when burning from iDVD?
    Thanks.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The Patchburn (link) driver might help but iDVD isn't the best for working with any old 3rd party burner.
It could also be a USB thing. Most iMac G4 have USB1.1 which is really too slow for proper DVD burning. If it has it connect the device via the much faster Firewire connection.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Saving With iDVD Helps Crashes

I have noticed that if I don't save my project before I burn the software will crash. Saving your file helps..possibly saving a few times so that you won't have to start over again. Also anytime you make a text change or background image you should save as well.

    Hi willMAC06:
    Welcome to discussions!
I don't know if the saving actually stops the software from crashing-but it certainly helps in case it does crash!
We preach Save-Save-Save here on a daily basis.
