IDVD launch problems

I am having a problem opening iDVD. I've tried force quitting iDVD then reopening and I've tried restarting the computer. I guess now I need to delete the preferences and do a maintenance repair. But I have a concern about this: only com.apple.iLife08.plist is listed in my preferences (no com.apple.iDVD.plist). Should I delete the iLife08.plist? if so, will everything work again when I relaunch them???
Thanks

Hi
You'll probably looking in the wrong way.
There are more than one Library
• One on Your hard disk - first Click - Wrong One
• One in Macintosh HD/Users/Your login (icon with a small house)/LIBRARY/Preferences
And here You find com.apple.iDVD.plist
Easier and better is to make a new User-account and log into this and have a try
Maintenance.
Run Apple Disk Util tool and Repair Permissions
eventually also Repair hard disk (You'll need to start from another HD or DVD to
do this)

  • IDVD launches but thats all it does do!

Hiya I have recently got iLife '09 (I still have '08 on my mac).
iDVD launches as you would expect but when I go to create a project and press ok it just doesn't do anything, it doesn't create the file or load anything.
Then after a while it just closes.
I have deleted the plist and reinstalled it aswell.
    No luck

    Hi
Please tell what You want it to do. Just to understand the problem better.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    iMovie updated ?
    QuickTime updated ?
    Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
    Lennart Thelander
I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

Asb x-fi xtreme audio console launcher problems on windows 7 32bit'sI recently installed windows 7, because I was tired from Windows XP, but unfortunately after installing all the drivers for my hardware I realized my 5. isn't working quite as expected.
My first problem was, that the Crystalizer didn't work, after installing tons of different software, found on creative labs forums the crystalizer started working.
Then I realized that the CMSS-3D wasn't (and still isn't working). How do I fix that ? I've tried numerous ways but nothing happens, while in windows XP everything worked fine after installing the drivers.
I also miss some configuration options in the Creative Console Launcher, namely the check boxes:
?"Automatically enable headphone settings" and "Automatically mute speakers".
Where the hell did they go?! I use them, I need them. How do I get them back? Is XP somehow privileged than 7? Isn't it supposed to be the opposite?
I also can't change the speaker configuration - it's stays 5. whatever I do, and the drop-down menu with the choices is missing?! Auto-detect option doesn't work, and if it did worked - I don't need it.

I uninstalled itunes because I was having launch problems. Now when I try to re install itunes, I hit the download button and it takes me to the thank you page but there is no itunes on my pc.

    Hey Davidl678,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are unable to download the purchases from your purchase history, because iTunes believes the songs to be in your library. It may be necessary to delete the items from your library, then re-download from your purchase history. Before doing so, you may want to take note of which song are available for re-download:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Delete songs, playlists, or other items

iTunes 11 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store

  • IDVD v7.1.2 launch problem

I used the program successfully two days ago, making a DVD.  Yesterday and today I go to launch and it takes forever eventually I get the message:  Searching for movie data in file "Sequence 1-Fin-0000086".     Earlier this week I updated to all the latest Apple software, OS10.6.8 which also included an iDVD update to v7.1.2 and other items.   Eventually the project comes up (no splash screen "Open new" or "existing").    Today I ran the Software update program, but nothing new about iDVD.
While waiting the finder locks up for awhile, I cannot get to the Force Quit in the dropdown and when I do, it looks like iDVD is running normal (no "not responding" message).  Once I get the iDVD program to Forced Quit, then the computer returns to normal operation.
    Help!  My computer is a 2010 i7 iMac (27in).

I found the solution: remove your most recent project iDVD created file and start over.    Your file will have the .dvdproj extension.    The file I created and used to make a DVD somehow became corrupted.  I don't know how the corruption could have happened, but it cooks the program and holds your MAC hostage.

  • IDVD launches and freezes

    Looking for help.
I have a iMac with a Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 gig processor. It was new in December of 2007. (6 months old) I've upgraded/installed any software that has come along. I now have iDVD 7.0.1.
I open a movie in iMovie 6.0.4 (I hate iMovie 7) works fine, I then use the menu to share the movie with iDVD. iDVD begins to open, I see the first menu picture start to move and then the spinning wheel of death. I have shut down and restarted the computer, I have deleted the plist pref for iDVD and relaunched iDVD and the same thing happens. I also tried to launch iDVD right from the applications folder and same thing. I have read many post and appreciate all of you who respond.
Can anyone respond to this issue?
    Thanks so much!

    Hello, Bunkermn,
Welcome to the discussions! You have already done more than some first-time posters; you have searched and read about similar problems and tried a couple of solutions.
Another recommendation is NOT to share your movie from iMovie to iDVD from within iMovie. You should close iMovie, open iDVD, create your project and then use the 'Media' tab to go to 'Movies' and drag in your iMovie's icon from there.
Do a 'repair permissions' on your computer's drive, using Disk Utility for this.
You can try signing on as a new user, different account, and seeing if you still have trouble launching iDVD.
Lastly, you may need to reinstall iDVD.
Please post back if you have more questions.

  • IDVD Burning Problem...Pixels and Vibrating Image!!!!!

I have a 104 minute project that I'm burning in iDVD (exported from FCP Pro). Every time I play it back after burning, I notice the same scene (about midway through the project) is pixelated and the picture "vibrates" like crazy. I've already re-burned it about 5 different times, and the same thing happens with each disc.
Then, I've isolated the problem by only burning that particular scene onto a disc...no pixels, no "vibrating".
I then went back and re-burned the entire film again...same pixels, same problem in the same scene. What's going on?
I'm using Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R discs...I've set the burning speed to Professional Quality and the burn speed to 8x...I've chosen a 6.0 them (Road Trip)...and, Im burning directly to the DVD-R disc.
Why am I getting this strange problem? Please help!!!!

Well, you're using highly regarded DVD-Rs. I would create a disk image and burn it at 4X or slower. You can test the disk image to see if the problems exist before burning.
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • IDVD launches, but doesn't function.

It allows me to use that nifty menu to select how I can start the project, asks me where to save it, but from there it seems to stop responding. The menus on the top bar do not respond.

Run Disk Utility and repair permissions and verify the disk. If the verification indicates repairs are needed than do so.
If the above doesn't help, log into another account and try from there. If iDVD does launch and work as it should then the problem is with your account. If iDVD still doesn't work as it should a reinstall of iDVD would be warranted. If you do try a reinstall of iDVD you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iDVD" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
If iDVD works in the other account it could be a preference file, other than iDVD's, that is conflicting with it. Here's how to determine if that's the case.
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .

  • IDVD relaunch problems

I've had trouble with my iMac freezing. After doing it during iDVD, I am no longer able to relaunch iDVD. I keep getting the message, "The application iDVD quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Clich Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
When I try to relaunch I just keep getting the same message. I'm frustrated because I am in the process of making a DVD for my class and now cannot get into the program. Help!!!
Thanks anyone who can assist me with this problem. I already trashed the plist for iDVD.

  • Magic iDVD & Sound Problems

When I load iDVD I have no button for Magic iDVD. Also I can hear no sound on any of my slideshows.
    Have I deleted something I shouldn't...any suggestions?
    Many thanks
    Jon

Quick Time is not used for this work.
Yes it is. It's an integral part of any project, but works "behind the scenes." It is most important to use the current version of QuickTime. For example:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303869
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • Photoshop CS2 launch problem

Most of the time I attempt to launch Photoshop CS2 it fails. I have to try 2 or 3 times before it's successful.
I've put a new alias in my dock and still have the same problem. It's ok when I double click on the icon in the application folder.
I've repaired permissions and disc and it still happens.
There are some times when it works ok, but mostly it doesn't.
If any suggestion is to re-install the application, do I just install over the old app or do I have to delete the old app before the new installation?
Has anyone any advice as to what the problem could be?
    Thanks

    Hello Frank,
Sometimes preference files can get corrptped and perhaps that is the issue with your Photoshop CS 2 software. Locate this file or one that looks similar: com.adobephotoshopcs2.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Locate that file from the Preferences folder, drag it to the Desktop. Try to launch Photoshop. If it functions as it should, drag that bad .plist file to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to delete a pref file as Photoshop will create a new clean one the next time you launch Photoshop. You will have to reset your Photoshop preferences, but that's one sure fire way to correct a bad pref file.
If that doesn't help... same path... locate this file: com.apple.recentitems.plist Same routine... see if that helps.
And, always, when applications are stubborn... run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities menu.
