IDVD Menus fuzzy Help!!

Hi,
I know this question has been asked for years but I still have not managed to find an answer that suits my circumstance.
I am creating a wedding DVD of our wedding pictures.
I have created themed slide shows in Apeture 3 and exported them as HD movie files.  I imported them to iMovie as I want them all to run concurrently and placed chapter marker and exported it to HD setting.
Opened iDVD and started a new project picked a theme and then placed the iMovie project into iDVD... all works chapter markers came up and it will play through the whole movie.
Edited the menus added pictures and music into the hotspots and all looks great preview looks exactly what I want.
Created a disc image as I want to burn mulitple copies and check quality.
Movie looks great no loss in quality chapters all work, but.... The themed iDVD menus look awful!!!.... All the text is fuzzy the pictures in the hotspots are barely recognisable and is a total let down.
The iDVD theme is perfect for what I want so I would love to use this but it just looks so bad (again actual important bit the movie looks great).  I even shrunk the window to actual size and no improvement.  I have set the codec to Professional quality and everything is still under 3Gb.
Please help I have been on this for a month and no improvement and have a lot of friend and family waiting on this
Regards
Jon.

Hi
Pause in middle - two thoughts
• SlideShow in iDVD has a limit of 99 Photos per show - exceeding this and strange problem arises
• DL-DVD - when changing from one layer to the second layer can sometimes result in a Paus
First one - I assemble my SlideShows in other programs eg
• iMovie up to HD6
• FinalCut any version
• FotoMagico™
• iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - will work but the sharpness will lose 50% as they deliver only every second line over to iDVD how ever one tries to do it.
I never in any iMovie version - use Share to iDVD - I do
iMoviw up to HD6 - Just close it and in iDVD import the movie project
iM'08 - 11 - Share to Media Browser and in Large - in iDVD import from it's Media Browser

  • Export iDVD menus to QT

Hello all, I am using iDVD 7.04 but couldn't find a forum for that version, so I am posting here.
I am looking to somehow use the iDVD menus in a QT movie. I am in the process of uploading files to the web and would like to have the menus included. Is this possible?
I've used Handbrake and MPEG as well, but they just pull the video itself with no menus.
    Ideas?

    Hello,
If you'd like the menus to be functional (ie, start the video), you'll need to use web tools to recreate the menus.
If you want the menu with its effects to play like a movie, the way I'd do that is using a screen capture tool for video, like Snap Z Pro.

  • Error while rendering menus/slideshows--HELP!!

Ok. I've done my homework on this forum and the Mac help pages and nothing fixes this problem.
Initial issue: I have an iDVD project with pictures in drop zones, audio in the background, two menu pages each with 3-4 movies (both .dv and .mpg4), and a menu page with nothing but background audio and text.
While trying to create a disk image I received the (familiar to this board) error that there was an "Error while rendering menus/slideshows" and that burning was to be aborted.
    What I tried:
I cleared 41 gigs of free space on my boot drive.
I transfered all of my media files onto the boot drive.
I verified and repaired permissions. (until I did these last two items, the program wouldn't just fail, it would crash my computer, giving me the multilanguage *you must restart* greyed out page).
I downloaded the most recent quicktime, iTunes, and Mac OS updates.
I created a new iDVD project with only one video file (sepearately tried just a .dv and .mpg4 file).
I removed all quicktime extensions from my 'library/quicktime' and '~library/quicktime' folders.
I changed from 'higher quality' to 'better performance'.
I told it to process in the background.
I told it to delete the rendered files when it was done.
I ran the apple hardware Test from my Apple CD.
I turned off the hard drive/screen 'sleep' settings.
I switched the video format from NTSC to PAL.
I swore and came up with multiple comically profane file names for the disk images.
Nothing. It always gives the error following the 'processing menus' portion of the rendering.
    Facts:
    iBook G4
    1.2 GHz Power PC
    1.25 GB Ram
41.77 Gigs of free hard drive on boot disk.
    iDVD v5.0.1 (625)
    iMovie HD v5.0.2 (111)
    Quicktime v7.1.5
    Mac OSX v10.4.9
I'm running into a deadline and need to have this burned!!
    *** Mac?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.2 G Ram

I switched the video format from NTSC to PAL.
Why in the world would you do this? You are in the
NTSC area. You must change the NTSC/PAL setting
    BEFORE you start a project.
Mostly because I don't know what it means and wanted to try anything.
All the video and audio is original content.
I ended up going to the Mac genius bar today. They said that it was a corrupted encoding file solved by a reinstall of iDvd. Sounds like a lot of people run into this problem?
On the topic of file formats... do you know why my titles look great in iMovie, but look like crap once I export them? Even if I export at "Full Quality". And is .dv better than .mpg4? I need a good primer.
    thanks,
    Ian
I suspect the problem lies in your mpg-4 content.
iMovie/iDVD have very spotty mpg-4 support. Try
    using something like VisualHub (
    http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/ ) to convert
your mpg-4 files to DV format. (You may also be
having problems with the music used in your menus.
    Where does it come from?)

  • New Photos update will not allow me to insert pictures in to iDVD? Please help

When I open iDVD and look for photos it does not show anything even though I have photos in the new Photos program as well as the old version of iPhoto?  Please help!!!  I'm a photographer and videographer and am making a DVD of the video and photos and can't upload any of my photos to the DVD before burning.

Sorry - been having the same problem. Please may I ask to clarify ... In order to have the new "photos" app photos appear in my iDVD project, I have to export those photos (thousands of photos) to ANOTHER folder on my hard drive??? Is there not a way to tell iDVD to "see" / "recognize" / "point to" the app photos? That doesn't seem best as I will be duplicating thousands of photos and videos. There has got to be a away for one program to "see" the other.
Second - the response about saving an iDVD project as "save as disk image" I'm not sure I'm doing correctly. I've done it several times and all I get is an icon on my desk top that looks like an external HD. When I click on it, a folder opens w/ "AUDIO_TS" and "VIDEO_TS". What am I to do then? How do I get it to "launch in DVD"? How do I burn to a disk w/ disk utility?
I started this process because after creating a project and burning it to disk, the voice on my video was not in sync w/ the video. It worked fine IN iDVD. Burn it to a disk and when played on my DVD player, totally out of sync and the photos are fuzzy. It plays fine on my laptop, but not on my dvd player. So I kept seeing this solution and I am lost. I thought I was doing it correctly - took a good 4 and half hours to create the "save as disk image", but once done, all I seem to get is a folder w/ 2 additional folders. Not sure what to do next.
    Please help.

  • Burning imovie project without idvd menus

hey all..so i made a music video in imovie 08 with one of my band's songs and camcorder footage, and wanted to burn in onto DVD. i downloaded Aimersoft burner, but it wouldn't let me import it to try and burn it. i didn't think burning a data DVD in itunes would work, so i did a search on the forum and followed instructions on how to burn it in idvd. the thing is though, it's just a music video, so i don't want the fancy menus and themes that i had to put in to burn it in idvd...i just want to put the disc in a DVD player and have the video come on. is this possible to do in iDVD, and if so..how? otherwise, is there a way to do this with another application? would burning a data DVD through itunes actually work? any help would be much appreciated!

There is a work around. You can try to pull the video before the menus. You can go to the "map" button (one of the three buttons below the viewing pane in idvd) and click on your video (after you have added your video in idvd) and then pull itbefore the menu block. You can then try to delete the menu from there. I havent tried it, but read it somewhere

  • IDVD menus fail to play

I burned an iDVD project using iDVD v7.1.1 but the menus fail to play on either my iMac or my DVD player. During the buring process, the progress bar indicates the menus are being process and burned, but don't appear when I boot the DVD media. I have reviewed all the iDVD preferences thinking that perhaps my set up is the source of the problem, but I found no preference that specifically address the issue. I would appreciate any help or advice.

  • From Final Cut Express to iDVD--need some help

I've read through the past threads on this topic and I still can't seem to figure out what's going on.
I'm using the latest FCE and iDVD6. Here's what's going on:
Put in chapter markers like I should in FCE.
Export to Quicktime (not conversion) with all proper options selected.
Video becomes a .dv file (is that Quicktime?) that opens in QT but no chapter markers show up.
Then, I open iDVD and drag the file in, but here's the rub--WHERE DOES IT GO? If I select a theme and drop it in (not in drop zones) it's just a video floating around in the theme main page. No chapters show up in the submenus.
Am I supposed to drop it into a particular place in iDVD? Or do I import it, or go to "Media" and then "Movies" and select it from there? I need to know how to make my chapters show up and how to get the movie where it's supposed to g (like if I was importing from iMovie).
I know this is long, but please help!
    Thanks.

Generally, I just drag the DV file from the finder to the iDVD menu window. Make sure you don't drag it to any Drop Zones, I think that might be your problem with the DV file showing up as the background. If you have default settings in iDVD, this drag and drop should then create submenus based on your chapter markers.
I'm not sure if you have any issues with the Chapters not showing up in QT. If you're expecting them to show up, then make sure that when you do the Export to QT that the option to include Chapter Markers is set. Upon conversion, you should see the Chapters within QT as well as when imported into iDVD.
    Hope this helps!

I have burned another project with menus succesfully..

    Hi
FIRST check that your Play Movie button in your menu has NOT an Auto Action selected that make it plays automatically your movie when the Menu loads. You'll find that setting in the Advanced tab of Inspector. If not . . .
You can try a workaround, no matter that if you have your Menu as First Play it must work. Try yhis:
    - Create a simple black JPG file i.e. in Photoshop
    - Create a Slideshow
    - Add a the JPG to the slideshow, set duration 2 secs
    - Set the Slideshow as First Play
    - Set Slideshow End Jump to your Main Menu
    Build and burn again.

  • Slideshow music from itunes into iDVD.  PLEASE HELP!!!

I am new to itunes and idvd, however I have had my mac since November.
I am making a slideshow for a bachelorette party and wedding, and really want to be able to customize the music that plays through the slideshow.
I have spent about 4 hours trying to figure this out by internet searches, experimenting, etc., so now I am asking for help here!!!
I want to put a playlist (that is in itunes) with 22 songs into the slideshow in idvd. However, I only want to play the first 30 seconds - 1 minute of the song, and I went through each song and right clicked, went to get info, and changed the end times that way. Did that for each song. When I import the playlist into the project in idvd, it does either 2 things 1) will only play the first song listed on the slideshow (over and over) or 2) will play the ENTIRE set of music, without any of my end time changes made (like 96 minutes worth!!!)
So... my question is, how do I do this? 22 songs, just the intro period of each, to move with the slideshow?
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated, I am about to pull my hair out!!!
    Thanks!
    Tessa

In order to have more than one piece of music play in a slideshow, you first need to create a playlist containing that music. Then, when you select the music for the slideshow, select _only the playlist title_. Do not select the separate song titles.
I only want to play the first 30 seconds - 1 minute of the song
You need to edit your music using some application other than iTunes. You could use GarageBand for the type of editing you describe. However, music purchased from iTunes could still come with the DRM protection, which has been known to cause problems when used in a project. To avoid any issues, you should take these preliminary steps.
    1. Burn the music in question to a CD.
    2. Reimport the music as an AIFF file. iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using: (drop down menu) AIFF encoder
    3. This music can now be imported into GarageBand for editing.
After you do your editing, create a playlist of the edited music, and use in your project as described at the beginning of my post.
    I hope this helps.

  • Drop down menus, please help...

    Hi all,
I am very new with this.
Is it possible to have drop down menus for navigation?
For example, is it possible to use the tabs and have other links under the tabs? (drop down menus)
What I have been doing is using the HTML Portlet and writing javascript code for the menus. I am assuming that there should be an easier way to do this.
Where can I find more portlets?
I have used other CMS before such as Dot Net Nuke and there are a lot of different modules avaialable for DNN. Is there a place that I can check out for this CMS that has tutorials, or different portlets?
I would really appreciate it if any one can help me with this.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hello,
In APEX 2.0 and greater there are built in list templates with built in dropdown navigation.
Just use a list instead of tabs, you can even make a list that perfectly mirror tabs that's how the tabs in the APEX builder itself are built.
Look at the top navigation here http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:5 it is an example of a slightly customized list with dropdown template.

  • Imovie 09 crashes when I try to share/idvd...help!

I have been working on an imovie project and finally finished but it wont send/share to idvd.  It keeps crashing...can anyone help?

Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new User account and log into this
(as this makes the Mac to make lot's of new error free pref files)
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences

    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
    • Disconnect all external hard disks and try - FireWire, USB/2, AirPort or Net-work connected.
To work OK I prefere FireWire AND it must be Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - WILL NOT DO for video - neither for iMovie or FinalCut or iDVD any version ! This also includes any USB-memory sticks.
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09 or 11)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • iMovie updated ?

From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

  • Massive iDVD project-Need help breaking it up

I have been working on a comprehensive DVD of all of my family photos dating back to 1890. I have chapters split up by decades and then submenus within divided up by years. It is almost 2000 photos (no iMovies). Each year is its own slideshow with music attached (slideshow created within iDVD). The monster is 16gigs and over 800 minutes long (according to the project info), however, if you just add up each slideshow it only adds up to about 4 hours of material. I have a red "X" in the top box of my map view that says "total menu duration exceeds 15 minutes", however when I duplicate the project and start deleting chapters it never goes away.
Is there away to easily split this project up into 2 or 3 DVD's?
Or perhaps make the menus smaller?
No one slide show is more than 13 minutes long.
I am open to suggestions on how to tame this bohemoth.
    Thanks!

As much as you would like it to be all on one DVD, clearly you need to break it up, unless you really want to burn it to a double layer DVD, which can accomodate 4 hours. This includes all the menus.
I would break it up into two or three DVDs, by doing just what you tried; duplicate the DVD project and then delete the parts you don't want in the duplicates,so that you end up with 2 or 3 DVDs of 2hrs or 1 1/2hrs each. Since you already have them organized into years, it should be simple enough to do.

  • IDVD virgin needs help! Widescreen ration aspect problems

    Hi,
I created QT movies from FCPx all as widescreen, when I play the QT movies they are widescreen but then when I create a iDVD, the ration changes to standard (even though it is set in iDVD to wide). When I am iDVD and look at the preview there is gray around the edges and it looks standard ration. What have I done wrong??  I found this advice:
f a gray border appears in the iDVD windo
When you drag the iDVD window to make it larger, the menu in the iDVD window always maintains the correct aspect ratio of your project (4:3 for standard video and 16:9 for widescreen). The extra space around your menu appears as a gray border.
To return the iDVD window to normal size:
    Choose Window > Actual Size.
You can also drag the window, reducing its size until the gray borders disappear.
But I cannot work out how to do this, I have clicked on Actual size etc but nothing seems to change.... I'm so crap at this, I really need help! thanks!

With the QT files I made straight from FCPx it says, 195.8mb 720 x 576. Then I used 'prism' and converted all the chapters and now they say 11.3mb 1024 x 576. I put them back into iDVD and it solved the widescreen problem. When I view the converted files in iDVD now they are widescreen and work. HOWEVER, I seem to have a new problem! Now there are 2 things that happen.
    1. Everything is widescreen but when I click on the chapters to view the video's, it automatically stops being full screen and goes down to a smaller screen and then you need to click 'full screen' for it to go back, this only happens on a few of them.
    2. Some parts of the DVD don't work, the footage goes all funny like ghosts and it jumps around and doesn't play nicely, then all of a sudden it works for a bit, then back to not working.
I tried using 2 different themes and the same thing happened. Any thoughts?
