IDVD missing from new iMac

I would like to have iDVD on my new iMac.  Where did it go?  How do I find it and install?

Great UT link Klaus.  I've added it to my "notes."

  • Recovery disc missing from new iMac (late 2012)

My iMac doesn't boot from the recovery partition. If I boot with the option key (alt) it only shows one bootable volume. If I boot with cmd-R it takes longer but still boots from the main volume.
I've run Disk Utility in debug mode and it shows that there is a recovery partition. I've mounted it, and looks as if it has the right stuff on it:
    com.apple.boot.P
    com.apple.recovery.boot
    System
So, what is going on? It looks as if the boot process isn't recognising the recovery disc as a valid boot volume.
    Any idea why?
The machine is fresh out of the box this week and I've not yet migrated my old system, so it's about as standard as you can get.

Thank you Mende, for that useful suggestion!
Unfortunately, looking it up, I find that recovery over the Internet takes several hours.
Also, I've updated my machine from the 10.8.2 it shipped with to 10.8.3 and I still don't ahve a recovery drive.
As I said, I can see that there is a recovery partition and it appears to have a recovery system on it, is there some way that I can make it visible to the boot loader? It looks as if that is all that's missing...
Has Apple said anything about why it has left the recovery drive off the latest iMacs? It seems to me to be an even odder thing to leave out than the Infra Red connection (which is very annoying because I've a very useful and expensive Apple Remote that's quite new and now useless - it doesn't work for my Macbook Pro either). I can understand them leaving the DVD drive out and it wasn't too much hassle to connect an external DVD which works quite well.

  • Playlists missing on new iMac 24"

Playlists missing on new iMac 24". I have a backup of everything on my MacBook Pro - it has the correct playlists and all the files in it. What do I have to copy to get them on the new computer? Too many important playlists to redo if I don't have to.
    Thanks!

See my user tips Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy and Make a split library portable. The first shows how I would normally recommend preparing to move your library from one computer to another. Back it up to an external drive, then restore to the new computer. The other goes into some detail regarding the structure of the library. Essentially if you've copied over the media already you simply need to copy the main iTunes Library.itl file and a some supporting files and the artwork cache.
I don't use iTunes Match so I am not familiar with it. I thought it included playlists, but perhaps that feature doesn't work properly when the library is bigger than the 25,000 tracks allowed. Either way backup and restore via an external drive is still the best way to move a library from one machine to another.

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • How do I install iMovie HD and iDVD on a new iMac?

    I have a new iMac, running 10.9.3.
I want to install iMovie HD and iDVD on this iMac.
I have the old install disks.
    How should I proceed?
    Thank you,
    Hal

The improvements provided by iDVD 7 over version 6 are not confined to themes.
Happily having two version of iMovie is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.

  • Migrating iLife apps from new iMac to G5 machine with Leopard

I bought the iMac which came with iLife and then built up a dual proc G5 to do music and video on. I don't want to have to buy a copy of iLife since I already have it but really want Garage Band, Movie Maker and iDVD on the G5. I started to migrate these with Migration Assistant but it didn't give me an option to choose just those apps. Is there a problem with me migrating all apps and then just deleting the ones I don't need on the G5? I assumed this would move the licenses for the apps from the iMac to the G5. Can someone confirm if the Migration effectively uninstalls the app on the machine it's being migrated from?
I'm not interested in making a copy of these three apps and am happy to delete them from iMac once moved over but it's not clear to me that this will work (even thought guys as the Apple store said I could do it).
    Thanks

The short answer is probably no.
I have 2 imacs both Intel.
I was having a problem with iLife apps on my older imac and so I dumped the iLife apps to reinstall them.
I inserted the install disk for my newer imac and it refused to allow me to install from that disk.
I used Pacifist and it worked for all apps except iPhoto which would not work properly even after several attempts.
I located my iLife 08 disk and it installed fine.
Despite the fact that most of the iLife apps seemed to install using Pacifist, they were suspect so I installed them all afresh from the ILife 08 disk.
The last thing I need is a program that may screw up and lose some of my photos, movies or compositions, especially when the package is reasonably priced.

  • Since i don't have idvd on my new imac, what is the best alternative dvd burning program with similar features? (creating menus, elegant and easy to use, etc.)

I just found out that Apple no longer ships a solo version of idvd with the new macs.  I used this program with my imac as it was simple and got the job done.
In imovie, under "share" there is an option for idvd, but it isn't a program i can get into like the old one for menu creation, etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a really good reliable dvd burning program with menu creation features similar to idvd?

    Hi
    There are two answers
    A. No there are nothing like iDVD - at all
    B. read on
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Transfering music from new iMac to iPod without losing songs on ipod

    Hello,
I've just finised uploading all my CD's onto my new iMac. I now wish to download the contents of the iMac's iTunes library onto my iPod (click wheel but not video) without losing the songs that are already on the iPod. The iPod was originally synced to a Windows PC which was used to download it's existing library. There are a number of songs on my iPod that are not in my new iMac's iTunes library & also a large number of songs that are already on the iPod.
Basically, I want to know how I can download all songs from my iMac's library that are not already on the iPod without losing the songs I have on the iPod that are not in the iMac's iTunes library (Ihope that makes sence).
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Dave!
    Yes, you can do this.
First off, do this to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing your iPod:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Option and Command keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
4 - Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds, throughout the time when your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List (the Source List is the left panel area of iTunes), and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Also, go to the “Music” tab, and ensure that the “Sync” option isn’t selected.
Click the “Apply” button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
Manually managing the songs on your iPod will allow you to preserve the current content that you have on your iPod, and transfer new content from your iTunes library to your iPod.
When you are connecting your iPod to a computer that is different than what it is normally synced to, you will get a message that says something like: "The contents of the iPod "your iPod's name" is synced to another iTunes library. What would you like to do?"
You will be given a couple of options, and make sure to click on "Cancel", and NOT "Erase and Sync" (or else the current contents of your iPod will be erased, and the iPod will be synced with your iTunes library).
So, after you've saved your iPod's songs from being automatically synced off of it, you can transfer your iPod's music to your compter if you wish.
You can install a third-party program onto your computer that can do this copying.
    Try using Senuti.

  • Process to access .mac from new iMac

Have 2 computers, eMac & new iMac 20" I can iWeb publish without problem to my .mac account from the eMac (in fact, have 4 different web sites online at present.) When I attempt to publish a new site using iWeb 08, I'm continually asked to sing in. First comes an update request which I check 'Don't Change'. and a drop down progress bar at the top of the iWeb window. Next comes the .Mac info window asking if I'm a member (sign in) or wish to become one.
When I click the 'Sign In' button, up comes the 'Already a Member?' question followed by my .Mac member name and the coded password (which shows a total of 12 digits vs. my actual 6 digit one)
That's as far as I can go as there are no other buttons to click except the account info one which gets me nowhere.
I want to move on to using some new iWeb 08 features but cannot.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Wayne Garriepy

Try launching Keychain Access - its in your Utilities folder - and look under login passwords to check the info for "idisk.mac.com" to see if it is correct.

  • Move data from new iMac to Mac SE 1/20

I have some classic Mac software I always migrated to my new Macs for years. Now I got an old Mac SE 1/20 and I wan't to move all my old software to it from my 27" iMac.
    The problem:
I bought 1,4 MB DOS-formatted floppies which both computers can read and write to (with PC Exchange on MacOS 7.5).
When the files are copied to the disks on my iMac they look fine, with their long filename, icons,…
But inserted into the SEs floppy drive the disk mounts with 8-character-names and all metadata is lost, so the SE can't open anything.
Formatting the disk to Mac format on the SE creates a disk the iMac mounts as read only volume.
I also have a G4 iMac at home, would using it in-between help?
    Thanks for any useful hints!
    David

Mac OS 10.6 and above can only read HFS disks, not write to them. You will need to transfer the software from the iMac to another mac running 10.5 or lower (i'm 99% sure that 10.5 could still write to HFS disks, however if not then 10.4 tiger definitely could). And then from that mac, transfer the files to the floppy disks after they have been formatted in the SE.
.... HFS is the format that the SE uses, not to be confused with HFS+

  • Removing Office Test Drive from new iMac

I purchased Office 2004 with my new iMac. The installation instructions inform me to remove "...any Preview or Test Drive versions....". My attempts to uninstall the Test Drive have failed. The "boxes" I am instructed to check are not there. I have searched for hours on this and the MicroSoft site to find an answer to this dilemma. Did I miss the solution in my search?

Just drag the "Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive" folder
to the trash - empty it - and install the new
    software.
Just to add a bit here: this should work if you've never actually run the Test Drive version. Until you've actually run the Test Drive, nothing has been installed for the uninstaller to find.
Once you've run the Test Drive version at least once, it'll install all of its libraries and fonts and stuff all over the hard drive, just like any other program. Then you'll need the uninstaller.
This page has more information that might be helpful.
