IDVD missing on new purchased iMac 21"

Hello;
is this normal that the iDVD software is not installed on a iMac 21" OS X Lion?
Can i get it through support call? Or is this purchasable option?
Or is there any other software available to burn iMovie content using the builtin DVD writer?
The dvd should be able to play in standard dvd player.
with kind regards

Make a couple of phone calls.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.

If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.
Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

  • New purchase - iMac i7 or Mac Pro Quad Core

I'm planning to purchase a new mac and most of the work i do revolves around Aperture. One option is the 27 inch iMac i7 and the other option is the 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem".
I'm hoping to get some advise on the speed aspects of both processors. Not so concerned about the expansion options and any advise or benchmarks on the speed of the processors.
    Cheers.

    Hi msa,
In my opinion the Mac Pro is a much better buy than an iMac. Much more flexibility for the future, and a real "workhorse"! If you buy an iMac, I am pretty sure that you will regret your decision in the long term.
If you have not already done so, then I recommend that you should read Lloyd Chambers very thorough review (31 pages) of the latest Mac Pros:

Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Bought new iMac & moved (or thought I had) all of my music from the old PC to the new iMac. Have discovered several hundred songs are orphaned on old PC; I can "see" them with both machines turned on & iTunes open. "Missing" songs show in iMac itunes Shared folder. How do I move them all so I can then & retire the old PC?

From things you are saying, such as "shared folder" and having both machines on, it doesn't sound to me like you truly moved the whole iTunes collection.

do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Playlists missing on new iMac 24"

Playlists missing on new iMac 24". I have a backup of everything on my MacBook Pro - it has the correct playlists and all the files in it. What do I have to copy to get them on the new computer? Too many important playlists to redo if I don't have to.
    Thanks!

See my user tips Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy and Make a split library portable. The first shows how I would normally recommend preparing to move your library from one computer to another. Back it up to an external drive, then restore to the new computer. The other goes into some detail regarding the structure of the library. Essentially if you've copied over the media already you simply need to copy the main iTunes Library.itl file and a some supporting files and the artwork cache.
I don't use iTunes Match so I am not familiar with it. I thought it included playlists, but perhaps that feature doesn't work properly when the library is bigger than the 25,000 tracks allowed. Either way backup and restore via an external drive is still the best way to move a library from one machine to another.

  • Is the new "Purchased" option in iTunes not working fully yet? Missing TV programs etc

    Hi
Is there a problem/bug with the new "Purchased" section in iTunes?
I had quite a few corrupted tv episodes which i thought i would be able to re-download but there are a lot of my purchases ( complete seasons ) that are not showing, also several individual epsidoes are missing from the seasons that are present.!!!! All very strange.
I noticed quite a few music albums are also saying downloaded next to them even though they have only be downloaded at the initial purchase time.
( My account is in the US store btw.)
    Any thoughts on the problems??
    thanks

It is a beta version.  The final version will not be out until fall.  There may be issues form time to times with the beta version, as it is a beta version.
    dksapple, TV shows are included:
"Now you can download music and TV shows you’ve previously purchased to all your devices. When you buy from iTunes"

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support, click AppleCare Contact Info for the number on your part of the planet and call them, they will give you instructions on how to get your license of the iWorks apps.

  • Is iDVD included with the new Lion iMacs?

Macrumors just posted this on the front page, and I want to make sure iDVD is included with the new iMacs (that come with Lion pre-installed).
    from Macrumors front page:
"Apple is in the process of phasing out iWeb and iDVD and does not offer them for download via the Mac App Store or include them on the new MacBook Air and Mac mini."
And I notice on Apple's iMac page, they don't mention iDVD:
    http://www.apple.com/imac/software.html#ilife

I was looking at this thread yesterday because I also use iDVD extensively and decided to do some searching on the Apple website. It appears they're wanting to concentrate on iMovie (new "movie trailers" feature plus new themes) and FCP X which hasn't proven to be a big hit so far. And, since they've built in "share" to pretty much everywhere (Facebook, etc, etc) from both iPhoto and iMovie, I guess they think it's time to ditch iDVD.
May I suggest that anyone using iDV D send some feedback about keeping it:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
As for saving on a DVD, I don't believe that has anything to do with it; I believe it is Apple's idea to move us away from physical media and become MAS and "iCloud dependent". No install media, no external backups - only digital downloads and iCloud storage/backup. I'll stick with my LaCie's and SL if necessary (fortunately I have a fully functioning SL clone).

  • Since i don't have idvd on my new imac, what is the best alternative dvd burning program with similar features? (creating menus, elegant and easy to use, etc.)

I just found out that Apple no longer ships a solo version of idvd with the new macs.  I used this program with my imac as it was simple and got the job done.
In imovie, under "share" there is an option for idvd, but it isn't a program i can get into like the old one for menu creation, etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a really good reliable dvd burning program with menu creation features similar to idvd?

    Hi
    There are two answers
    A. No there are nothing like iDVD - at all
    B. read on
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Is there different software installed on new iMac from Bestbuy vs Apple store? I purchased new 27 iMac and cannot find NUMBERS, PAGES or KEYNOTE

Purchased new 27 iMac and cannot seem to find PAGES, NUMBERS or KEYNOTE programs. I installed OS X MAV and still cannot find them. In the app store they cost money.
