IDVD movie help

I am trying to make an iDVD with my home videos from my camcorder. The movie files are on my hard drive and they are from finalized DVD's so they are VIDEO_TS files. I can't get iDVD to recognize them in my movie folder, I tried to just drag the files in and that doesn't work either. Can someone help me?

Hi
A. don't put a mini DVD into Your miniMac. You need a trayloaded DVD to do this.
B. Read what Karsten collected:
DVD back to iMovie:

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and
made for any processing as editing... or, as honorable forum member
QuicktimeKirk stated: I use the analogy of the old Polaroid
"instant" cameras. Push the button, wait for the print to develop and
show it off. ..
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in
recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
• DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
• Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
• VisualHub (23.32$)
• Cinematize >60$
• Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
• Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
• connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
• Drop2DV (free) a free tool claiming to convert DVDs into dv-stream...
• Use iSquint for your conversions : www.iSquint.org

  • Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

Sorry about the delay in responding, I've been putting up with a very slow iDVD, but now I'm fed up with it again. My version of iDVD is 7.1.2 (1158) running in Mac OS X, version 10.6.8, with 3.2GHz and i3 processor, 4GB of memory, on a desktop iMac. My version of iMovie'11 is 9.0.4 (1634).
I can stop iDVD from showing iMovie EVENTS (now 3247 of them) in its Media pane under Movies, by moving the iMovie Events folder from the iMovie folder ( that iDVD ALWAYS looks in) to somewhere else in that Directory (where I store all my data, and which I have named "browning").  But then iMovie can't display the EVENTS, because it is looking in the wrong place. So, how can I save iMovie Events in another folder (not iMovies) but somewhere where iMovie will find them?
Is there a method to change the default folders for iMovie and/or iDVD? How does iMovie know where the iMovie default directory is?
Should I put iMovie into the "Main" Mackintosh HD directory?
The Apple Store in Bath, UK, couldn't help, but surely I'm not the only iDVD user who is annoyed with this process?
    HELP, please

  • Moving iDVD movies to an external drive.

I have made many movies of my family and my hard drive was getting full. So I purchased an external hard drive and moved some of my iDVD movies to the external drive. When I went back later to look at the iDVD files I got the "broken assets" message. I know this is because I moved the iDVD file. My question is if it is possible to preserve the iDVD movie files with everything in place that it needs over to the external drive so I want get the "broken assets" message. How do I copy the media files along with the iDVD file? Is it possible, or is there a work around?

  • IDVD movie stops short

My idvd movie dvd's run around 25-28 minutes out of 38 and locks up for about a  minute, then goes back to the start menu.  This was a Final Cut Express video exported  out with quicktime movie to the desktop.  It plays through all the way through with no problem.  Next, I opened the idvd project on the desktop and played it all the way through.  No problem.  I've started over and re-done everything four times and get the same problem.  Restarted the computer too.  I've made and burned maybe a hundred videos and never had a problem like this.  Any ideas?

Could be a problem with your blank DVDs or burner.
Have you changed the batch of blanks recently?
Burning at high sped can also lead to unreliable DVDs  .  .  .  set iDVD to burn at the slowest speed or at least no faster than 4x
Note that some third party DVD players can have problems with computer burned discs.

Why is my iMovie shutting down everytime I try to share it to iDVD? Help I am new to the Apple world, what am I doing wrong? I have already shared 2 iMovies but this 3rd one is giving me trouble!

    Hi
    First
    • How much free space is there on Your Start-Up Hard Disk ?
If less than 25Gb - then iDVD will get a hard task as iDVD and Mac OS needs this space for it's pref files (can't be easily addressed to other hard disk)
    Then
    • I do not use "Share to iDVD" - but - "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (not HD or other resolution)
    If still problem - then
    • Material used in iMovie can be the problem maker eg .mp3 audio and .avi, .wmv/a files etc.

    Hey preachit,
It sounds like we are running into issues with the iTunes software connecting to your device. If possible, lets try plugging your iPhone 5 in with a different cable. Also, try plugging it in to a different USB port on your computer:
    iOS: Troubleshooting USB connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286
We may need to isolate the issue down to the iPhone or the current installation of iTunes. If the above steps have not resolved your issue, remove and reinstall iTunes:

  • Updating a idvd movie from imovie

I created a movie in imovie, then created an idvd movie with slideshow and everything. It was all great until I realized that I forgot to add certain video clips when i originally made the imovie. I added the clips and saved the original imovie, but how do I update the idvd movie without starting all over?

Above comments absolutely right for iDVD 8/9.
However, I THINK that iDVD 6 will do it correctly. It is worth a try, because if it works you are done. If it doesn't you have lost only the burn time.
You don't have to do anything yet. When you relaunch iDVD, it should recognize that your iMovie has been edited and will give you a message that your 'assets' have changed and ask if you want to update.
Go ahead and do that, then burn your DVD or create a disk image file and see if it works ok. The bug in iDVD8/9 is that all the chapters default to the same chapter when selected instead of going to the correct chapter.
If your results also have chapter markers defaulting to one chapter, then iDVD 6 also has this bug.
There is no 'fix' except to create a new iDVD project and put the edited iMovie into it.

  • IDVD not encoding my movie help!?

I want to make a DVD with iDVD but my .mp4 movie is too large. The notice says that "Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window." so i changed to encoder setting from "Best performance" to "High quality" but then this screen comes up.
    http://tinypic.com/r/2mrbeaq/7
Notice how it does not encode and im left with a gray shade?
I tried to burn it, but it says "There was an error during the encoding process"
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

I came across this article in the Google search that brought me to this thread.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
It says for High Quality and Professional Quality the video won't encode until you burn the DVD. It takes longer, but allows for the larger files. Good luck!

  • Widescreen movie plays as 4:3 when imported into iDVD. HELP!

I edited a movie in Final Cut Express, and it plays fine in widescreen in that program. When I export it as a Quicktime, however, it then will only play in 4:3 ratio. I import it to iDVD & it wont play in widescreen either.
(Also... when in Final Cut Exp, how to I change the aspect ratios from anamorphic to 4:3 & vice versa. Just for future reference & to make sure everything is right.)

Is there any way to do this without buying Quicktime Pro?
I've tried exporting using the Quicktime Conversion, then burning to DVD using iDVD. I've tried it using different methods and every time it creates video that looks good when there's little movement, but anytime something moves quickly on the screen, the area around the movement is pixelated and you can see lines around it. The only way I seem to be able to get good, clean movement on my video is by using exporting as a Quicktime movie, but then it stretches my widescreen footage horizontally to a fullscreen image. Is there no way to export other than using the "Quicktime Movie" method to get rid of this blur? Or is buying Quicktime Pro the only way to get rid of these annoying lines AND have a widescreen image? It seems kind of ridiculous that I'd have to buy ANOTHER piece of software to do this. FCE should be able to handle this, shouldn't it? Or is this an intentional thing to require consumers to drop a little extra coin on another piece of software?

  • Jumbled sound in iDVD movie. HELP!

I just finished making 2 iMovies. Both iMovies were made using footage from the same digital camera. I exported the first iMovie to iDVD 5 (via the Share menu) and created a menu, etc. and burned it to a DVD. Everything worked great.
When I exported the second movie from iMovie to iDVD and created menus, etc. everything worked great EXCEPT when I play the movie in Preview mode, the sound is all garbled and jumbled. The sound for the menus works great, it's just the sound for the actual movie in messed up. The movie in iMovie works great, the sound is normal, but when I move it to iDVD, the sound is all messed up.
    Any thoughts on this?
By the way, in the movie, there is only one soundtrack - the sound that is embedded in the video. All the soundtrack check boxes are checked as well in iMovie.
I am at a loss as to how I can fix this.
    Best,
    Michael

    the files end in .MOV
Hmmm... It must be recording in QuickTime. I would convert them to H.264 and try them in a new iDVD project. I think you'll be amazed at the quality difference. Actually improves my AVIs. Improves my digital video export out of iMovie HD too. Works like magic. See how they sound after coming out of QuickTime Pro. You'll need QuickTime Pro 7. If you don't have 7, convert them to DV and try.
You can drag those QuickTime files right into iDVD. No need to go through iMovie HD.

  • After burning to dvd, using idvd, movie stops on frame but audio continues

After creating imovie which works perfectly, and also after trasferring to idvd works perfectly, i have problems when playing back dvd after burning to disc. The movie stops but the audio continues. I altered the clip but same thing happened in next clip after next burn. I don't think its a corrupt clip, but maybe something to do with WHEN it occurs in the movie. Any suggestions? After 4 goes and many hours burning I am stumped!

    Hi Tomma1
And welcome to apple discussions. It's good you chose to use 16 bit audio for all of your source material. And assuming this is accurate info .... From what I can tell, you are doing nearly everything correctly. However let me ask you a few questions.
    1. Are you using the boot volume (the hard drive where iDvd and Leopard are actually located) to encode your dvd (yes/no)?
    2. More importantly, does the disc image also go out of sync when played thru apple's dvd player app? or does it only happen on the burned dvd-r?
    3. Are you using Verbatim Dvd-R or an alternate brand? if it's the latter, then for troubleshooting purposes while on this forum; please use Verbatim Dvd-R. (it helps us eliminate additional / possible variables). Thereafter feel free to use the media that works best for you and your mac.
    4. Have you tried an alternate encoding setting other than pro quality setting? and do you get the same results?

  • DVD movie help please

    Hi
I hope someone can spare some time to help me resolve a problem I have.
My wife has made a file in imove consisting of pictures, video and music. We then burned a DVD in toast 7 ( DVD video setting). It plays fine on PC but wont in front row ( the first page is there but it wont play any further). Has anyone any idea what we have done wrong.
    Cheers
    Pete

Why don't try burning the movie using iDVD. Just go to iMovie menu and choose share -> iDVD. Burn it right from iDVD and try. I am not sure about Toast.
