IDVD no audio solved, but ...
like many other, I had the problem that when I edited my movies in iMovie and iDVD the audio was fine, until I started burning them on DVD or disk image. Than there was either no audio at all, or after some minutes (usually 5-15) the audio was gone.
I tried lot's of tips that I found in this forum, but nothing helped.
My data was on an external USB2 drive (mac formated). Since access to USB2 is somewhat slow on macs, I got a new firewire drive. Using the terminal cp, I copied all my data to the new harddrive. When I than opened my iDVD project and did my 101 try to burn the DVD, everything went fine. I tried my other projects that I got stuck with (no audio) ... all of them burned just fine. When I do it from the USB2 drive --> no audio !!!
So my problem is solved and I'm happy.
But I would like to know just for my sanity what is causing this problem when having the data on a USB2 drive (400GB, MacOS Extended). Does anybody has any idea?

Glad to hear the issue was solved eventually. To answer your question, iMovie and iDVD6 were designed to work well with firewire devices. They are often problematic at best with USB.
The reason for this is that firewire offers a sustained data stream which is in practice ideal for most video applications, whereas usb transfers data in packet technology (burst of data that are entirely CPU dependent). Firewire is actually smarter technology for most high speed data transfers (and especially video) since it is not cpu dependant. FW negociates bus conflicts on its own whereas the same bus conflict can slow USB to a crawl.
The drive is slower than a firewire drive. But the only effect I would expect from that is that I have to wait longer until my movie is rendered ....
Nope. This isn't correct. Here's why:
"While USB 2.0 has a higher theoretical speed limit (480Mbps) than Firewire 400 (400 Mbps), Firewire is much faster than USB 2.0 in real life usage, just by nature of the design of the protocol.
Firewire has very little overhead and is far more efficient with sustained data transfers than USB 2.0.
USB is very dependant on CPU usage and is adversely affected by other processes running on the machine, as well as other devices attached to the USB bus. Firewire is not suceptible to these issues.
In the real world, you will never get anywhere near 480Mbps with USB 2.0. You are hardly even likely to see half that speed.
Firewire is faster than USB 2 in almost every aspect... especially on a Mac."

Preview in iDVD fine, audio drops off in data image or burned DVDs
Playback in Final Cut HD Express and iDVD preview works perfectly. I create a DVD image and the audio drops out the last minute of a 39 min program. The movie file source in iDVD is DV/DVC Pro. I did a Quicktime conversion from Final Cut using High Quality H.264 and the audio remained but the quality was awful. I did a program info in iDVD and the DV movie did not eat up too much space in iDVD so that's not an issue. I have 28 avail. GB in my external drive where the project is located so not an issue.
I have 23 GB left in my internal drive so that wouldn't be an issue either.
The Apple Store techs were stumped.
The audio that goes missing in the data image and a DVD I burned was a fade out done on Final Cut. There is a blue line on the timeline, but if that was an issue then it wouldn't play back in iDVD. It DOES play back perfectly in iDVD. Somewhere in the conversion from iDVD and a data image or DVD messes with that audio. Any hints?No definite suggestions, except for things to try (might they count as hints?):
Before exporting from FCE, did you mix down the audio? (Sequence>Render Only>Mixdown).
Did you export a reference movie, or a self-contained movie? Whatever you did, you might try the other.
What versions of FCE, QuickTime, iDVD? Some recent QT updates have caused strange things to happen in older versions of FCE. -
I have garage band ver 10.0.2 and am trying to add effects to an audio track but i have no info button or track info under the track tab. How do i get these things to show up on my program?
In GarageBand 10.0.2 you can no longer add all kinds of effects freely; this GarageBand '11 feature has been discontinued. Pick one of the predefined patches that already has the effects you want.
However, you can add effects from the predefined audio units.
You'll see the predefined effects on the track, when you open the Smart Controls. To add audio units, click the button and enlarge the the smart controls pane by dragging the dividing line to the Track Area upwards. -
I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro and i know the Mini-display port does not support audio out but does it support HDMI out? or do i have to buy a Mini-display to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapters?
Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in. That's about all you can do.

Hey Apple, look into this as too many posts on too many forums here verifying that the QT movies work with 3rd party browsers but even the latest Safari beta browser is only delivering audio.
ok, so maybe we aren't running intel dual processors, but we are running the latest versions of os X and QT on our PowerPC computers. someone at Apple needs to wake up and just tell us it's our problem since we haven't bought a new Intel based computer or either make a fix.
after reading so many posts in PowerPC forums --> even Tiger forums, and even QT forums about this problem it can't be explained off as "you installed something on your computer that won't let you see video in a QT movie on this official Apple website"
i expect this post to be heavily monitored or even closed for discussion - but doing so won't wash away the problem. just tell us to get a new intel-duo based mac as our older macs aren't up to par or something - or just tell us something like it's a recognized problem on older macs or video will become a problem in QT more and more with older macs.
more and more users like me are left hanging in thinking that we have installed or done something to our older macs that won't let us see video [only hear audio]. yet the fact remains that if we fire up firefox or a 3rd party browser then all works fine.

I copy /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin into my local directory
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
And now I can see the videos from Apple website over Safari!
I guess "my" Safari doesn't look into the main directory, but into the local one. It should be the other way around, but at least this fixes the problem more elegantly.
Still, the thing is unclear. A colleague with a new MacBook doesn't experience this problem. His local Internet Plug-Ins are empty, and Safari runs perfectly. Weird!?!?!!?!! -
I have a late 2008 MacBook I cant get to send sound to my TV when I try to watch movies. I have bought the HDMI cable and audio connectors but still no sound. What am I doing wrong?

Open System Preferences > Displays > select the window for you external monitor > click on the Arrangement tab and check the box next to Mirror Displays. It may be slightly different in Lion, but the idea is the same. -
I have PURSCHASED an audio book, but when I changed my iPad the items I had purschased did not come up in my history, does anyone one know how I can get these back without having to pay again?
Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download. Have you not got a copy of it on your computer and/or on a backup that you can sync to the iPad ? Audio works in audio chat, but not in video chats.
So, when I start an audio chat with a friend, we can hear each other just fine. I then switch over to a video chat, and she can hear me, but I can't hear her. I already had to do all sorts of port forwarding in the firewall settings and router in order to rid myself of error -8... this is kind of frustrating!
I fixed the problem a week or so back by simply restarting iChat. When I tried that this time, no dice. Any ideas? Seems odd that it would work in audio chat but not in video chat...I am having the same issue. Last night my sister and I did a video chat (which took some doing- we are both neophytes which it comes to this technology). It was great! But we had no audio. So we typed our conversation for quite awhile till my sister turned on her speakers...... Then she could hear me!! Now we were excited. But I never could hear them. On the video window there were 3 icons at the bottom, one being a microphone icon which had a line through it. So we are assuming the audio problem is on her end (she's using a Dell) and not at my end (since she could hear me)- is that correct? I checked all my settings and I had my speakers on the whole time with the volume maxed out. I could hear clicks when she wiggled something on her speakers but that was it. Any clue what she needs to check? I know I am posting in a Mac forum but we are giving it try again tomorrow and it would be nice to hear her. I know that there are plenty of us Mac users that have relatives that use PC's so maybe someone might have an answer. Will keep searching though. Judy

I have problem with iTunes story (secure link to itunes store failed). I make In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in netsh winsock reset the itune story is solve but after i close itunes the problem is back
The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.

if you use a hdmi to dvi converter then you only get picture and not audio because dvi don't carry audio same with vga -
How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts? Additionally, what does 'File' 'Finalize Project' do?
Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead. -

Guitar Plugged in Audio interface but no effect sound

PC is showing realtk high definition audio working but not showing not plugged in
computer is a hp pavillion a6763w desktop PC.
i had installed a ati video card and all worked perfectly for a while after updating the drivers for it my onboard sound went out. the sound would play through the hdmi output but no other output. i uninstalled video card and drivers and reverted back to old drivers. did a restore point. reset the bios to enable onboard sound. reinstalled drivers for onboard sound. tried installing a sound card and it was not recognized by the computer. but still PC is showing realtk high definition audio working but nothing plugged in when it is. also i have tries several different devices being plugged in and none of them worked.Hi,
When installing a discreet sound card, you should disable on board audio.
With HDMI, you have to chose speakers or HDMI but not both. It's one or the other.
What ATI video card are you using and did you upgrade your power supply?
Did you go to www.realtek.com and download the latest audio drivers when using the on board audio?

Quicktime Movies - The audio plays but the video is completely messed up
Hi.
I have QuickTime V7.2 and my OS is XP.
All of a sudden QuickTime started playing back QuickTime movies with no video - there is just a lot of flickering green and purple - however the audio is there. Oddly, the files used to play fine. They were made on my PC as QuickTime movie files. The sound is there. (Additionally the files play ok in Realplayer.)
I've searched techy support but can't find an answer. Any ideas what is wrong?
I made the files on movie editing software called ULead, and as I said, they used to play fine.

GaryA very similar and, I suspect, related problem. I created .mov files on my Mac, they play fine on the Mac, the audio plays but flickering video on my PC. I suspect it has something to do with the codecs used. Anyone have an idea as to how to make them compatible?
