IDVD NO SOUND

I know this topic has been covered before, but I don't think anyone has found a solution. I have created a school video in iMovie. JVC video camera set on 16 bit. If have used this same format many, many times. I set my chapters and then send it to iDVD and load the theme. Burn a DVD. The menus have sound but the video doesn't. I try to save it as a disk image and play through DVD player, same result!! All software is up to date. I am using iLife 06.
Any Help Please, Thanks

I am using an external USB 2 fantom drive 120 ....
Use ext. Firewire only and I bet you'll have much better luck here (especially when it comes to iMovie and iDVD6).
Could it be the external drive? ........ Yes. (altho your ext. Fantom 120 HD may have support under Mac OSX, it is not really suited for use with iMovie nor iDVD6 which make exclusive use of FW).
Apple's top end /Pro Apps support ext. USB however iMovie & iDVD are not nearly as cooperative with anything USB.
iLife'06 is consumer based and centered on use of Firewire. iPhoto & iTunes are the only iLife'06 exceptions that come to mind that make efficient use of USB.
Hope this Helps.

  • Keynote to quicktime movie to iDVD, no sound on dvd

I know this has been asked a million times, however I (a relatively recent Mac convert) absolutely can't believe that Apple would not allow this to work.
I have a keynote slideshow with music. I "send to iDVD" as well as "export" into a quicktime movie. Resultant files are movie and soundtrack. I bring into iDVD. Sound plays in iDVD. Burn dvd from iDVD, no sound on dvd.
C'mon, the instructions are there, the menus are there. Apple can't expect us to "import into iMovie, match movie and soundtrack" or "burn using disk utility" or otherwise do anything other than take a keynote and make it in to a dvd.
Worst case, can I just burn a CD or DVD that automatically plays the keynote with sound and doesn't have the cool DVD Menu?
Again, sorry for the "same old question", however I have not found a fix that worked nor do I believe that Apple means for this to be so difficult.
For those experts out there that have seen this question before, I really have spent a significant amount of time researching the problem and haven't found a fix that worked or an official response from Apple.
    Thanks again.

I am not running this on an intranet, I am creating a video for my students and posting it to my Internet web page. So if I were to post the keynote file itself, 4/5 of my students would be unable to open it because they don't have Macs. Some do not even have desktop computers and view stuff on their smart phones. I solved the issue, at least partially, by saving the presentation as html and posting it to my site that way. It works but it is a bit buggy. Would still rather make it into a movie.

  • IDVD dropping sound

I have a project with 4 short movies. The project seems to burn fine but during my longest movie (38 min) the sound drops out of the last 5 minutes.
These movies were created by FCP. I was able to manage a DVD Studio Pro version (which is not working very well (barely works) with Leopard. I managed to get it to burn and there is not problem with the sound. I would use that copy, but the menu skips. I am really having a lot of issues with my Final Cut Studio with Leopard. Even after yesterday's update.
By the way, I built the same project on my daughters computer using idvd with Tiger and the same thing happened. No sound for last 5 minutes.
    Any insight is appreciated

What brand and format DVD are you using? Making a disk image and then burning? Burning at what speed?
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility. You can set burn speed in iDVD '08 if not creating a disc image.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his iDVD 6 book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
I buy Verbatim white inkjet printable in stacks of 50. Verbatim's part number: 94971. They have been flawless for me.

  • IMovie idvd - no sound

I burned my movie via One Step idvd directly from my camcorder. Sounds was present but no audio on the dvd movie.
    Help.

    Hi Steve:
Read through these completely and see if anything applies to your set-up(both are still valid for iDVD 6):

  • IDVD Distorted Sound

Have created a 50 minute video with background music and it previews great in iMovie, click on create a DVD project and it previews with badly distorted sound in iDVD ??? Any ideas why ?
Have a PowerBook G4 with DVD drive.
Previously I made a Magic Movie direct from camera with same original tape and it worked OK, now I having edited it in iMovie I have this problem.
Also, an error message appears "Your project exceeds the maximum allowed content duration. You will not be able to burn your DVD while your Encoder Setting is Best Performance. This can be changed in your iDVD Preferences."
How can this be when video is just 50 minutes long and DVD+RW is 120min?

    Hi Peter
Can there be sound outside/extending the movie track ?
Does Your super-drive support DVD+ ?? my only DVD- !
Try making a disc image and see if this runs OK.
    or
Probably You have used the function - Share to iDVD - from within
    iMovie. Try another way.
    a) Close iMovie
    b) find the project icon/folder
    c) Ctrl-click on it and Show package.
    d) in this there are a folder -> Shared Movies -> iDVD
    e) in this there are a QT movie nnnnnnn.mov
    f) drop this into an open theme in iDVD and save it as a desktop image
(if iDVD prior HD/5 You have to add a hack to make this possibly
    named HPfurz and install it)
Test this with Apple DVD-player - OK then burn it with iDVD
or Toast if You have and don’t want to re-code the movie.

  • AVI - idvd sound drop out?

When burning an 30 minute avi movie using idvd - the sound plays for the first 4 or so minutes then cuts out on the finished disc. The picture remains perfect - the sound just stops.
I have Perian 1.1.3 installed and the movies play perfectly in both Quicktime and Front Row.
This problem seems to have popped up round about December 08 on some other forums (and on my Mac Pro) but suggestions fizzle out.
There must be a fix to this problem without converting the avi to another format which takes hours.
It was only a short time ago that quicktime stopped playing sound on avi's and Perian fixed that issue - but not this one.

Fixed it by reverting to Perian 1.1.
Perian 1 stopped all my avi's plaing on Quicktime - 1.1 did the job!

  • Distortion with sound when viewing burned movie from idvd

I created a movie in iMovie that included tracks from iTunes and exported it to create the dvd in iDVD.
When viewing it in iMovie, it sounds great.
When I exported and viewed the movie in iDVD, it sounds great.
But after I burn the dvd and view it on any of my tv's, the sound is distorted. I've tried playing the settings in iMovie changing the track volume to a lower setting but that isn't helping.
    Can anyone help?

I had a similar problem. Some of the music in my movie was distorted playing on my TV. Burning the dvd in disk utility did not make a difference, but the file was 3 times larger. Anyway while trouble-shooting I found that it played much better through the HDMI cable as opposed to the component cables. It also played ok on my older TV through the AV cables. So it is either my component out jacks on my dvd player or my component cable. I have noticed other dvd's that I made from my Imac do play very loud on all my TV's.

  • Sound is lost when exporting or sending to iDVD

My project has sound in iMovie (8), but when I (a) export to Quicktime, or (b) send to iDVD, the sound is lost. I presume that some box hasn't been checked, but I've no idea what it can be

Well, I did this: I made a copy of the project, and then exported to Quicktime, and the sound was there! Then I sent the duplicated project to iDVD, and the sound was there as well!
This is not really satisfying, because I didn't discover what the original problem was - unless it's just a 'feature' of iMovie 09 that some projects need to be duplicated in this way.
(By the way, I've read that there are three check boxes in Timeline view (and that they all need to be checked), but I've no idea where they are.)

  • Jumbled sound in iDVD movie. HELP!

I just finished making 2 iMovies. Both iMovies were made using footage from the same digital camera. I exported the first iMovie to iDVD 5 (via the Share menu) and created a menu, etc. and burned it to a DVD. Everything worked great.
When I exported the second movie from iMovie to iDVD and created menus, etc. everything worked great EXCEPT when I play the movie in Preview mode, the sound is all garbled and jumbled. The sound for the menus works great, it's just the sound for the actual movie in messed up. The movie in iMovie works great, the sound is normal, but when I move it to iDVD, the sound is all messed up.
    Any thoughts on this?
By the way, in the movie, there is only one soundtrack - the sound that is embedded in the video. All the soundtrack check boxes are checked as well in iMovie.
I am at a loss as to how I can fix this.
    Best,
    Michael

    the files end in .MOV
Hmmm... It must be recording in QuickTime. I would convert them to H.264 and try them in a new iDVD project. I think you'll be amazed at the quality difference. Actually improves my AVIs. Improves my digital video export out of iMovie HD too. Works like magic. See how they sound after coming out of QuickTime Pro. You'll need QuickTime Pro 7. If you don't have 7, convert them to DV and try.
You can drag those QuickTime files right into iDVD. No need to go through iMovie HD.

  • I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have bought a copy of Apple iLife 11 on dvd a so that I can install iWeb and idvd, when I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • Imovie to one step idvd transfer

I used the easy imovie option to transfer 60 minutes of minidvd data to an external hard drive..it seems to play well..However when I then transferred the movie to one step idvd, the sound track did not transfer..or rather the track is garbled..Is there a limit to the size of the imovie..or is it the external hd that is the problem.
    Thank you

Several ways to try to fix things:
    1) Import into iMovie and "extract audio" then try again, or even export after extracting audio to full quality DV - and use that file in iDVD.
    2) Import to iMovie. Set your camera back to 16bit in VCR mode, and then export to tape. Then re-import into iMovie.
    Or these:

BTW I don't think any version of iDVD liked 12 bit audio......

  • When i send to iDVD...

    Hi,
I´m from Portugal, so please forgive me my bad english.
The question is - i´m workink with a HDV movie in the iMovie.
When i push "share" to send the video to iDVD, the aplication do everything OK.
But, when i play the movie on iDVD, the sound seems to be slower than the original.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have a similar problem. Firstly going straight from iMovie to iDVD leads to grabled sound then if I go from iMovie to Quicktime ( Something recommended in a book) the backing track sound volume becomes erratic ( Too Loud!!) at different points for no obvious reason as the sound levels have been set and checked!
Hopefully somebody out there has answers!
I recorded my Audio in 16 bit on a Sony DSR 390 Camera. I know there can be issues if the Audio isn't recorded in 16 bit but this isn't the case with my project. Check whether you have recorded in 16bit audio. If you have you mayneed to re export to the camera ( If Possible) and export back as bit. failing that you could try going through Quicktime and change the settings.
    Movie to Quick time Movie
    To Expert ( settings)
    then in the Video Window
Choose ( DV/DVCPRO - PAL) If your using Pal
    BEST quality
    PAL 25 frames per second
    Click Size
For Normal Format PAL ( 4:3)
    Width 768
    Height 576
    For Widescreen PAL
    Width 1040
    Height 576
    Click movie setting Sound box
    set the Rate to 48.00khz
    Size to 16 Bit
and channels to use stereo - OR L/R if that's the option click ok and ok again
    Then Save
You should be able to check the quicktime footage then drag it to iDVD if it's Ok.
Failing that ...... which mine has!!! Please help us someone!!

  • Sharing iPhoto slideshow using iDVD

After spending a painstaking amount of time, getting everything just perfect in my iPhoto slideshow, then using Sharing to export to iDVD, my sound and slideshow no longer line up.The slideshow now ends and the song gets cut off. I have even tried adding extra time to my slideshow and make other adjustments, but having to export takes time and I need it to end up the way I made it. This is only a 57 image, one song (4:08 min), slideshow. It goes off without a hitch in iPhoto. I have adjusted every frame for effects (no prepackaged iPhoto stuff) and duration. Any help here would be appreciated.

Have not tried to do that.
In iPhoto 6 there is a thing called Photocast. That might work. I don't use iPhoto, so I'm not much help there. You should visit the iPhoto 6 group.
