IDVD not burning movie right

I'm running an Imac-G5, 750 some ram with jaguar 10.3.2 I believe. I have a 1.5 hr movie w. some basic transitions & audio.
Everything previews fine, until it reaches Idvd. The whole burning process ok, but once done, the dvd is pixealted & audio out of sync. I read all posting regarding best performance settings, bad ram etc etc. At this point I'm thinking to re-install Idvd. Any other ideas.

Hi Enrique
I would start with:
- upgrade Mac OS to X.3.9 (not go for X.4)
- upgrade QT to 6.5.2 (not go for 7)
- upgrade iMovie to 5.0.2
- upgrade iDVD to 5.0.1
AND repair permissions with Apple disk util tool.
See if this helps.

  • IDVD not burning SOME transition frames

I have an imovie 06 movie where I set chapters and transitions. When I burn the DVD (I have tried 3 times) the first 4 chapters and transitions work OK, but on the final 6, the 4 second transition frame with the title I set in iMovie mysteriously drops out. Any idea what could be causing this. Maybe an incompatibility between iMovie 06 & iDVD 08?
I've been trying to burn this movie for a week! I already reverted back to imovie O6 when I realized how awful imovie 08 was (NO CHAPTERS!) Now this is just the latest iDVD 08 headache. From what I've read it seems a little more difficult to revert to iDVD 06. Is that true?
Message was edited by: John Hall3

Actually, I just looked at the disk closer, and the transition frames actually ARE there, but the chapter markers are not burning in the right place, so when you hit the chapter, the title frame is already over. When you place the movie in iDVD before you burn it, everything is aligned properly.

  • IDVD not burning film onto disc

I have been trying to burn my film through iDVD. Last week I burned two DVDs with no problem. I now have a new packet of the exact same blank discs, but the burning doesn't work, and the disc is ejected in the multiplexing stage with nothing on the ejected disc.
I've looked over other threads, and followed their instructions (changing to x1 speed / having over 25GB space before I begin burn) and have also been told to delete the .plist file, but I cannot find it anywhere.
This is extremely frustrating, as I do not know what has happened in the past week, same project, same blank DVDs.

    Hi
    • Delete iDVD pref. file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref. file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named.
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

  • How can I use iDVD to burn movies I legally purchased online?

Please help, I have an older macbook pro with updated iDVD program. I am new to making DVDs so I have been watching and reading and trying to find any info on how to burn a dvd that can be played on any dvd player. I have purchased movies through itunes over the years and want to be able to use them off of my laptop, and i also have torrents that I want to burn. they are all either .avi or .m4v  and every time i import them into the iDVD project it will show the titles of the chapters but no movie, no pictures, and will not even autofill dropzones! Please help, I have read that i need to make the .avi into .mov but i don't have the slightest idea how to do that without paying for something to slow my computer down even more. Any solutions that are not too complicated or expensive?

    From iTunes Help:
Movies and TV shows purchased from the iTunes Store can’t be burned to a DVD or VCD that will play in a DVD player or Video CD.
As for the various .avi and .m4v files, you need to convert them to something that iMovie can use, like DV,, and then pass it to iDVD for burning - always assuming they are not copy protected and you are not breaching copyright.
    For that you need mpegStreamclip:

  • HT2937 how do i solve idvd not burning double layer disc?

I have an iDVD project that will not burn to a double layer disc. It burns to a single layer with no problems, but with a double layer the disc ejects when it finishes multiplexing and burning. There's still 18 minutes left! I have tried burning it x2 but no luck. Any ideas how to solve this?

    How long is the video?
Are you using good media like Verbatim DVD-R DL?
    Use the setting Professional Quality:
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1502?viewlocale=en_US
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced two-pass technology to encode your video (The first pass determines which parts of the movie can be given greater compresson without quality loss and which parts can’t.  The second pass then encodes those different parts accordingly) , resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Using iDVD to burn movie reduces quality. Any suggestions?

When i used iDVD to burn DVD the resulting picture quality was poor. I know that there is a better way to retain quality but can't remember how to do it.

    Hi
If You want the quality a DVD can hold (interlaced SD-Video Quality at it's best) then
    • do not use iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - as non of then in any way known - can deliver this but discard every second line in the picture resulting in a quality loss (sever to some = me, slight to others)
The problem occurs when moving an Event to a Project - it's here the lines are lost = why they can not be mended in after hand (later).
    • Use - iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any version - as they all can deliver what iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, Toast or Burn can use.
If feeding iDVD progressive HD material - the resulting DVD will not improve - but be even worse due to BAD downscaling function.

  • Not Burning .MOV file

Hello, I have a video file and idvd will not burn the video. The only thing that it contains is the audio. IDVD is burning the audio but with no video.
What is the problem and how can I fix this?
    God bless,

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I take it that this is a recording you have made yourself (i.e., not subject to copyright)?
Does the recording reside on your internal hard drive or is it on external media?
    Do you have QuickTime Pro?
What error messages or behavior do you see when you attempt to burn it to disc?
(As far as I know, there are no DVDs big enough to accommodate a file that size on a single disc.)

  • Idvd not loading movies

I just bought ILife today. When trying out idvd, I cannot get any movies to appear. The movies appear in itunes and in Quick time, but cannot get them to appear in idvd. Any suggestion.
    Thanks.

    Hi
I think that the info about iDVD and what it is or not - are to scarce.
iDVD can encode some few video formats to some DVD brands (it is picky)
It Can't play - anything else than the movie project that's under construction
if the parts is of the right sort.
So to begin with - a movie in iMovie can be used directly if iMovie 1 to HD 6
If iMovie'08 or 09 - then it has to be published to the media-browser first.
iDVD - IS NOT a general video converter to .mpeg2 and video-DVD format
.avi - can contain movies that works - BUT MOST OFTEN don't do that = wrong format

  • Idvd not burning

i have used dcp and used quick time conversion into imovie and then brought into idvd, the final result was noting, it did the whole process and at the end said the process is done, but the dvd is empty and i can not close the idvd unless i quit the program, what do you think it is?

    Stephen,
    Welcome to the iDVD forum.
I did create a disc image, that worked...do I drag the disc image file to a DVD?
Open Disk Utility (DU) in Applications/Utilties. Drag the image you made into the lower left column of the DU window. Select the image after dragging, then click "burn" at the upper left.
See Disk Utiltiy Help for more info, look for "wroking with disk images"

  • IDVD not burning to disk

I have been at this for days now. I have created a video for a family wedding and all I want to do is burn it to a disk. I have tried all suggestions that I could find. The message I get is burn completed, the disk is then spit out and it then underneath that message it says errors found when burning. I have tried to compress the movie to a dv file and then burn it...no success. I purchased a drive cleaner...no success. I have removed any plug-ins from my Quicktime folder...no success. I have tried different types of disks and that didn't work either. The message said it was a recording device error and something about calibration. Any suggestions?

  • IDVD NOT BURNING, IDVD NOT BURNING

error occurs during rendering. In Idvd

One common issue is a bug in iDVD. If the sound is muted/disabled in the main menu, sometimes the DVD won't render properly.
The mute control is EXTREMELY non-obvious. Click the button to show the "drop-ins". One of them should be for sound. Drag any music file (probably a little itunes icon) out of the music drop-in spot. You may see a little speaker icon that is actually a button control. Click it. If it changes to the little speaker with soundwaves, great, it is unmuted. If not, all is not lost. Try dropping a sound file back in there anyway. Play the menu to see if sound comes out. Try the procedure again a couple times, removing the sound file, clicking the speaker once, putting the sound file back in, until playing the menu actually produces sound. Oh and make sure the volume on your computer is actually up, too.
Last suggestion, try a simpler theme. I was having most trouble with complex themes and long drop-in clips that were taking 3 hours just to render the titles.

  • IMovie not importing movies right

This is the first time I've tried using iMovie. I plugged in my camcorder (a JVC camcorder using DVC tape). It automatically came up with an option to import, and I left it on automatic and clicked ok. It took awhile, but then it said it had only imported one minute of video, and it seems to have imported the same, like, 10 second clip over and over again rather than importing the rest of the video that was on there. Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion-- I figured out that it does work in manual mode, which is a relief. At least now I can make it work, so the problem is basically solved-- but I still wonder why it doesn't work in automatic mode. It would be nice if iMovie could automatically import the whole tape and split it into different days, like it says it will. Any advice on how to get that feature to work?

  • Idvd was not included with my mac mini how do I burn movies?

dvd was not included with my mac mini how do I burn movies?

It is now confirmed that iDVD and iWeb have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.
You can purchase the iLife 11 boxed disk at the online Apple Store while supplies last or possible at Amazon.com or eBay.com.
