IDVD Not Responding from Launch

I was attempting to create a new DVD but did not have my Superdriver plugged in.  When I plugged it in, iDVD did not recognize it so I relaunched the program.  The program refused to reopen and is now no longer responding from launch.  A window does not open but the icon does appear in my dashboard with the note that it is not responding if you option click on it.  I would appreciate it if anyone has troubleshooting I could follow to get it back up and running.

Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Muse5 not responding on launch

Muse5 not responding on launch requiring reboot of my Mac.
Twice a week is my estimate.
Adobe App Manager same issue same time.
    Annoying.
    Cause?

My next step would be to start writing down what programs were open and what task you were doing when it happens and look to see if there is any pattern.
Another thing that may be possible is if Muse has some sort of cache file that gets corrupted similiar to what happens a fair bit in Dreamweaver. Not sure if Muse uses a cache file like that though - I'll check.
But regardless my next step would be to see if there is a pattern over time of when it does this.

  • Performed iDVD update 6.0.2; iDVD not responding

I updated my iLife apps to the latest software updates and now iDVD stops responding/won't load a project.
Additionally, when I try to repair the disk/permissions, the system won't let me click the buttons to perform those actions.
I installed the updates on my iMac G4, and iDVD launches without a problem.

    Sue,
I tried the Firmware Restoration CD and nothing happened. The computer didn't show an update status and it didn't restart. I don't think anything was changed. So I reread the instructions and it says:
Note: This CD cannot be used to return an Intel-based Macintosh computer's firmware to a previous version if a successful update has already been performed.
I believe I had already performed a successful update, as I mentioned previously. I don't think this suggestion will be helpful to me.
    Thanks,

  • Can't burn iMovie to iDVD (not responding) - after "Encoding Audio"

    Hello,
I have a similar post in the iDVD board, but thought someone in this section may be able to help as well.
I have a 15 minutes project (almost 2 GB) iMovie show that I've attempted to burn to DVD through iDVD (4 times with the same problem)...
It goes through the "encoding menus" and videos, but gets stuck on "Encoding Audio" and in my Force Quit window says (Not Responding). I have almost 12 GB free on my PowerBook G4 and successfully burned a test DVD of this last week before completion (when I only had 7 free GB - I also added on another 2 minutes since then)...
Any help or ideas? I need to get this done ASAP...
    Thanks
    Chris

Chris, what I've found is that patience is the key here. You really can't count on the progress bar to let you know how far along in the process you are. I've run into the same problem as you. When the burn symbol stops spinning and you get the beachball/lollipop don't rush right off to force quit. Just because the force quit menu shows that iDVD is NOT RESPONDING does not mean that all is lost. What made me realize that iDVD was still working was the Activity Monitor located in your Utilities folder under applications (applications/utilities/activity monitor).
Do yourself a favor and run this app while burning you project. When you get to the point where it appears to hang on you check the status of iDVD in the activity monitor window. More than likely it will show that iDVD is still using a good % of your CPU (%CPU column numbers will constantly change as iDVD demands more or less from your processor). You may also notice that it may show that iDVD is not responding (as well as a couple other processes that are related to the prog), this doesn't mean a thing because iDVD is in reality still chugging along. Of course if the %CPU column is showing 0.00 then iDVD has indeed stopped workin in which case you do have some issues.
    Hope this helps

  • Idvd not responding - Connection Failed Warning

iDVD 08 is not responding. The menus appear at the top, but that's about it. I get a spinning ball whenever I mouse over menus. Shortly after starting, I get the message: Connection Failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.
I've tried opening iDVD from application folder as well as from within iMovie.
It's been a couple of weeks since I used it. Worked fine last time. There was an update that I noticed in the last couple of weeks. Perhaps that's it, but I don't see any other posts.
Any suggestions, please let me know.
    Thanks.

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner.
I own both a powerbook G4 and Mac Pro, and network the two sometimes in order to switch files back and forth as necessary to take things on the road.
Although the iDVD project was exclusively on the MacPro, (Indeed, I even tried starting a new project on the MacPro, but iDVD still wouldn't respond), I believe the Powerbook must have been connected at some point in the process (just hanging out there), and for some reason iDVD got confused. As soon as I reconnected the Powerbook, iDVD was fine.
And then I disconnected the two computers and iDVD continued (and continues) to work fine.
I'm not a programmer. Not sure what happened, but it seemed to fix itself.
PS: For those programmers out there, when I say iDVD was unresponsive, I mean it. I had to force quit every time. It wasn't just that iDVD couldn't find any necessary files.

  • Garageband not responding after launching

I have garageband 09 on my Macbook Pro 13". I recently started using it and now whenever I launch the program, it shows it is opening drums kit and then nothing happens. When I left click garageband icon on the dock, it says it is not responding and I can only force quitting it.
    Any suggestions?

  • Failed to burn iMovie project, iDVD  "not responding"

A preemptive thanks for your time.
I am trying to burn iMovie projects through iDVD. I have done this successfully in the past. What happens now is after going through many of the steps up through Encoding Video, the process gets stuck when the status window says "Encoding Audio". No error message occurs or anything like that, the burn wheel stops spinning, and the "multicolored wheel of computer confusion" pops up. Needless to say this means that I am even more confused than the computer and examining the iDVD icon in the dock reveals that it is "not responding."
This same problem happens with two similar projects (one of which was burned successfully in the past.) I am using Sony DVD-R disks. The projects are the typical size for about 50 minutes of edited iMovie project (15GB).
    HELP!

    As Rich says:
    This question is frequently asked!
iDVD is probably not 'hanging'. Disregard any messages that iDVD is not responding. It is. Do not force quit.
Encoding audio is the slowest part of rendering, and can take many hours. Great patience, even an intermittent alternative hobby, is called for.
Make sure no other application is running, make sure you have not set the hard disk to go to sleep and that the screen saver will not come on. Leave it overnight, or have a 36 hole game of golf.
Sooner or later iDVD will finish!
(The current record mentioned here for encoding a DVD with lots of added audio etc is 47 hours!)

  • IMovie not responding on launch

iMovie is hanging on launch.  I get the application pane at the top of the screen but nothing ever loads.  I have to force quit every time.
I've already tried to go the route of :
    user/Library/Preferences remove a file called com.apple.iMovie(x).plist
This worked as far as allowing iMovie to launch but then when I try to open a project, it hangs again and does not respond further.  I've just deleted the app entirely and I'm redownloading/installing.  Has anyone else run into this? I'm using the latest version of iMovie.

I spoke too soon.  It just froze on me again.  This time I had to repair disk permissions and delete com.apple.iMovie(x).plist to get it to launch and it's currently hung on trying to open an iMovie event.  What's with this thing?

  • Not Responding from London

My daughter and I set up iSight on our computers before she left for London and it worked fine. Now when she sends to me it says I am not responding and when I send to her it says that she is not responding. Is it timing out or ??? We both have met the specs for broadband.

I have the same problem. We set up 2 isight cameras one on my iMac g4 and another on an iMac g5, both running OS 10.4.4. Also on the same Bellsouth fast access dsl. we get the same message "user does not respond". I have been able to view apple test cam on the g4, but the g5 hasn't. mac tech support doesn't have any other suggestion to fix the problem. i would appreciate any insight you can offer. thanks. • Safari not responding on launch

Yesterday, after months of no problems with Safari 4.0.5, every time I open up Safari, upon launch it stops responding. I've uninstalled and reinstalled.
I have followed the procedures below recommended in an earlier thread and still no go.
    1. Go to Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
    • history.plist
    • lastsession.plist
(Safari may not load properly If these two files are corrupted.)
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just web history files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
    3. Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
(Again, faults in stored cookies may interfere with Safari's launch.)
    4. Check whether any of your third-party internet plug-ins may be interfering with the launch of Safari by carefully moving them to the desktop (do NOT delete them at this stage). You can find these in two places:
Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder, and Global plug-ins are located in the Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder.
Restart Safari and place them back in the correct folders, one at a time, closing and re-opening Safari each time. If you discover that one of them was causing the problem with launching Safari, trash it and download and install a fresh copy.

    HI Dominick,
Login using another user account and try Safari there. If the problem persists, then it's a system wide glitch not just your user account.
    In your user account...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
    Relaunch Safari.

  • IDVD not responding

I made a movie in Imovie 9 and sent it iDVD. Nothing happens after the file conversion is done. iDVD won't open the project as it is dimmed and eventually it just fails asking for a report sent to Apple.
I have followed the advice here about permissions and deleting preferences, but nothing seems to work.

I'm NOT talking talking about the 'Menu Bar" at the top of your screen.
Open iDVD, choose the theme you want and iDVD will show that theme's opening menu in its window. Drag-and-drop the movie from your desktop on to the iDVD menu page that is shown for the theme you have chosen. This will put your movie on that menu.

  • PLEASE HELP!!! iDVD not responding

I'm importing a 12 minute movie from iMovie. It is only pictures and mp3 audio. I import it to iDVD, when I preview it, the sound crackles and the video is choppy. I then attempt to burn it. When it gets to audio encoding, iDVD no longer responds. I have no idea what to do here. If I get iDVD 6.0 will this fix the problem. Please help.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi superjedi:
    Welcome to discussions!
What was the source of your audio? iTunes perhaps? If they were, perhaps you could try converting to .AIFF before importing to iMovie.
Advanced pulldown menu in iTunes Convert to AIFF
If they were purchased songs for iTunes, it may be easiest to burn to audio CD and import from there.

  • Logic Pro keeps (Not Responding) when launched or opening tracks...

Running logic Pro 7.2.1 on Power Mac G5 and using a Tascam FW-1884 control surface. During startup logic Pro hangs. Sometime if a song is opened via "Finder" it opens fine, but most times it just hangs. Also, not sure if this is related, but all logic pop-up window have this funky maroon color and its hard to read the text and button can't be seen at all.
    PLEASE help!!!!!! Production DOWN!
    -Chico

I had many problems with my Mac G5 2.7 refurb/Logic 7.2.1 when I first got it back in March. Although my problems were different than yours some things I remember doing that helped:
Trashing Logic's preferences fixed a situaution where my Logic windows were flashing randomly and Midi info was corrupted causing my Mackie Control Universal and my Korg Triton to freak out Logic.
Repairing disk permissions because 2 times Logic did not totally install correctly. Yes I reinstalled Logic at least 4 times to figure out why I was having freezeups system wide.
Working closely with Apple Care documenting my problems and finally getting my local Apple store in our local Mall to change out the motherboard, dual processors and optical drive. Yes essentially a new computer. Since that time I have not had one system wide freezeup (any wood around here)
    or major problem.
AT one point running the "Quick Test" from Apple's startup disc showed a Bad RAM chip. Again not related to you but running the test could show something.
I have 2 issues left to fix - Logic 7.2.1 for me has a transposition problem. Midi tracks will show up after I open a song file transposed down a step. The fix is to reboot Logic which is a pain. 2nd - Annoying beep coming from my power supply. Beep is audible in studio near the tower and is also in the audio chain coming out of speakers. No fix yet but again I'm working with Apple Care.
