IDVD not showing in Spotlight

For some reason iDVD does not appear in Spotlight. All other applications show, only iDVD is missing. I have to manually open iDVD from the Application folder.
I couldn't find any clues on this forum as to why this is happening. Anyone got any ideas?

For some reason, even though I have 'Applications' listed as number one for searching in Spotlight - they don't show up at all.
Any documents or mails about the app get lists but not the applications.
Interesting that even using the Alfred add-on, I can type the app name in and again don't get it in the search at all.
I tried rebuilding using disk utility as well as Onyx - to no success.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Go into the System/Spotlight uncheck Applications, go to the Privacy preference pane and add the applications folder to it. Reboot, go back to the Spotlight preference pane and Check application and remove applications from the Privacy window. This will force a reindexing of the Applications folder.

IMovies Do Not Show Up in Magic iDVD

In the Magic iDVD project creation "dialog box" I clicked on Movies and did not see the 4 iMovie icons that are in my Movies library. I DO see all the iPhoto photos when I click Photos tab and DO see tunes when I click the Audio tab.
When I tried to drag an iMovie icon from the Finder view into the Drag Movies Here area, it would not work. Thus I just opened up iMovie and transfered 17 clips one at a time into the Drag Movies Here area and proceeded to burn a DVD. All was OK from that point on.
Any ideas on why Movie icons would not show up?

I don't use Xmarks, so I don't know whether that is a factor here...
If you use Ctrl+d on a bookmarked page, does the Edit Bookmark dialog appear?
Firefox doesn't have a convenient way to determine the location of a bookmark. One workaround is to use the extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/show-parent-folder/ Show Parent Folder] to add a column in the Library dialog showing the location of a bookmark. Then when you use the search function or Recently Bookmarked query, you should be able to discover the location.
The extension shows just the folder name by default. If that isn't unique enough, you can change a setting for the extension so it shows the full path down to that folder. To set this, open the Add-ons page, Extensions category, and use the Options button for Show Parent Folder.

My hard drive icon is gone from desk top and does not show up in spotlight or finder searches!

recently my hard drive icon has disappeared from my Macbook Pro (10.7.4) desk top and does not show up in spotlight or finder searches! I have tried several fixes posted online for earlier operating systems with no luck.
Also, when I connect my external hard drive the icon does not appear on the desl top nor in the finder either, making looking for documents impossible.

In "finder" click "finder" then "preferences" and navigate to the "general" tab.
Select which items you would like to have show on your desktop.

Photos in imovie 11 not showing on idvd project.

I made a project in imovie11. Half is video with around 100 iphotos inserted into the movie. That is, a few iphotos in between various clips. Shows on preview imovie preview okay. But when I exported as HD1080 widescreen to idvd, the movie okay but photos not showing. Music tracks all there and the timing is all okay, but just a black screen showing instead of a photo? Any suggestions.
One other point may be relevant, I think the imovie is in NTSC format, but need to export as PAL. Is it possible to do this in imovie or just idvd?

When using spotlight search on my 5s it will not show past text messages that haven't even been deleted even if I type a specific word that I know is in a message I want to search for. I have message search turned on in the spotlight settings.

When using spotlight search my phone will not show all text messages with a common word even though I have not deleted any messages from my phone and I have the message search turned on in settings under spotlight search. The search only shows the messages that are recent within the past day or so. Why won't it show the other messages when I search for them even using a specific word that I know was in the message I'm searching for.

It sounds like you are not getting notifications for new text messages that are coming in, and you must manually check the app. I recommend checking the Notification settings to see if they are configured correctly:

Turn Spotlight Suggestions on and off a few times. If it still doesn't work try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till your iPad starts on it's own.
I'm using a iPad but I can't see that making a difference.

Spotlight is not showing any results!

I just upgraded to Leopard and now my spotlight app will not show any results when typed upon. I have tried to re-index the volume through system pref. but it didnt work. Anyone know any other methods to get it back into shape? thanks

enter the following terminal commands form an admin account:
sudo mdutil -i off /
sudo mdutil -E /
sudo mdutil -i on /
please copy and paste them exactly as given. you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) after the first command. that's normal.
the commands turn spotlight off, delete the index and turn it back on.

Themes in iDVD 5.0 are not showing up

None of the themes are showing up, I'm just getting a black screen although the text does show. Even on previous finished projects, when I open them, the theme does not show up.
Any help would be appreciated.

My problem is very similar to the above. No matter what I do when it comes time to select Themes, the screen stays black but the audio will play--- for some Themes--not all. I have downloaded the latest iLife fixes, trashed all the IDVD folders, plis etc I can find and reinstalled always with the same result. I am able to get drop zones to appear in the window and I can put pictures and audio in place. I can reposition pictures and change audio. The audio will play but no matter what I do, I have never seen any kind of image on the screen when I try to preview my project or select a Theme.
Any help out there for this kind of problem?

Spotlight does not show the path or location of a file anymore when hovering with the mouse over the file

in Leopard Spotlight used to show you the path /location of a file when you stayed with the mouse over the result. As sometimes I just look for the location of a file not to open it like a mp3 file. It would be nice to have a opiton in spotlight to contorl or right click a file and then give the option to say show in finder. that only works when you have your results show up in finder first and takes a bit longer. or maybe in the new prieview window to show the loaation or give you opitons what to do with the file
Just an idea to spotlight even better

When you hover over a file in spotlight list (or select with up/down arrow) you can also hit command-R to open the folder where the file is located. Kind of like 'Show Original' for aliases.
But yeah, Apple really needs to just show the directory path on the hover pop-up by default. Obviously, when you do a search you'll most likely get several files with the same name - we need to see the locations to tell them apart. One of the main reasons to do a file search is to simply find out 'where the file is located' - not necessarily open the file. Seems pretty shortsighted to not show the file location in the search result.

Exchange contacts not showing up in Spotlight

For some reason the contacts in the Address Book that are from the Exchange server are not showing up in a Spotlight search. Other contacts that are 'On My Mac' work just fine.
I tried trashing the 'Metadata' folder but that didn't fix the problem.
Any ideas?

A temporary fix is to copy all exchange contacts to "on my mac". This doesn't duplicate on the exchange server and does not duplicate entries when emailing.
I am also wondering about push vs fetch. Has anyone else realized that messages, calendar items, and contacts are not being pushed. The programs are all fetching them off the server? Is this a bug? What interval do other people use to fetch their exchange mail?

Mp4 not showing up as import in iDVD

Hi all,
Trying to do my first iMovie to iDVD (7.1.1) burn but coming up with an issue and I'm looking for a little help
I made a collection of home movies in iMovie and then used the "Export using QuickTime" option (I found an article/movie online that showed how I could have more control over the quality of it this way). The movies themselves weren't HD, but I exported it into an mp4 via H.264 with a high data rate (5000 kb/s) and an image size of 1280 X 720 HD. The exporting went fine - the video opens in quicktime and plays very well.
But when I went to iDVD to then import the video into a project, it doesn't show up as an option. The iMovie project says it hasn't been shared and when I look under the file folder where the mp4 video should be, it's not listed as an available video. When I try to import the movie via "File/Import Video", it's there, but when I click "Import" nothing happens - it goes back to the iDVD screen but no video was imported.
Can anybody see a reason for this not showing up?

I would in iMovie - NOT use "Share to iDVD" - but - I "Share to Media Browser" and as Large and in iDVD I import from it's Media Browser.

After updating IPhoto to 9.5.1 my newly burned IDVD disks will not show on my Bluray player but will on my regular player. I burned the disk the same way as I did before Iphoto update.

My Apple computer has OSX Version 10.9.3 installed, IPHOTO 9.5.1, IMOVIE 7.1.4 and IDVD 7.1.2. Before I installed OSX and IPHOTO 9.5.1 updates I could burn disks of my videos and they would show on all my DVD players and still do. The disks I recently burns will not show on my Samsung Blu-ray player, but, will show on my regular player. I tried in both Magic DVD and One Step DVD From Movies with the same results. I used the same process before and after the problem. I am 75 years old and am not as computer savvy so I am not sure were to start troubleshooting the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

What brand and type of DVD disk did you use? The most recommended brands around here are Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R.
What speed did you burn at? It's recommended to burn at the slowest speed possible to ensure the best quality disk, 2x -4x.
I have a Sony BlueRay player that will not take most of my home burned disks. It seems to be more particular.

HT2523 TextEdit will NOT show up in Spotlight

I have TextEdit, and I got it with my MacBook Air, and ever since I got it, TextEdit ALWAYS showed up in Spotlight. I could just type in "t" because I use it so often. Now, It will not appear in spotlight, at all. No matter what I type. In order for Spotlight to even open up anything related to textedit, I would have to type in the name of a document. But it still exists in applications, and opens when I click on a rtf. etc. document. And yes, I do have caps lock, etc it's normal except for Spotlight, and I tried typing textedit in many differnt "ways". I have not fiddled with the settings either. (Sorry for so much sentences I am just trying to narrow the possibilities down.

Music not showing up on Spotlight.

Hello.
So i downloaded music to my iPhone 5 64Gb running iOS 6 (via another source; NOT iTunes) and when i try to look for it on the spotlight, it will not show up. I tried resetting the phone, restoring it, re-synicning, deleting the songs and re-synicning them, and nothing.
The source in which i downloaded doesnt effect the song search, because i have downloaded other songs from the same source, and OTHER sources, and EVEN iTunes, and it wont show up either.
And another thing, the song that wont show up on spotlight, will also not show up when i manually look for it in the Music SEARCH bar. I have to Literally scroll through all the mucis (1,000+) to find the specific song i want and it gets annoying. In other words, it will sync to my phone, but wont show up when i search for it in spotlight, or in the actual "Music" app.
ANY SOLUTIONS?

I found a solution! It was posted on another thread:
Just open itunes on your computer, check to sync something that is unmarked (genre, artist, whatever), sync. Now open music on your iPhone. Bam.
Now just uncheck whatever you checked before. Sync. Bam.
It worked! My songs showed up! Good luck.
