IDVD not working in 10.4.11

Anybody--
Can open iDVD, can select Magic iDVD, can put movies in movies and
photos in photos, Cannot get music to load--can see iTunes library,
get message cannot locate original file, also. cannot get a preview
of what I have placed. Get a blank screen and so dippy tune preloaded
into the program. Any suggestions?
Have downloaded latest update, not installed.
Got tip on how to load music from MUG member.
Still cannot get iDVD to preview and/or create Project.

Quit iDvd. Then drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash followed by a complete restart of your mac.
com.apple.iDvd.plist
Repair permissions with apple's disc utility. Now try iDvd again.
Feel free to post back with your results.
(if it's still a no go, then run apple's software updater and repeat the final step I recommended above).

  • IDVD not working right with Snow Leopard...a possible fix

I was having the following issue with iDVD and my new fresh install on a new hard drive of snow leopard 10.6.4:
iDVD would open to the screen where you chose what you want to do
I would click create a new project and get to name it
Nothing would happen but I knew the program was still running. I could see it in the activity monitor
I would go to quit iDVD and it would ask me to save changes and the beach ball would start spinning and I would have to force quit from the dock
Then I found this post after looking litterally all day for a fix....these instructions worked for me and my iDVD is now working normally...
    (1) Go this folder:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Framew orks/
    (2) There should be 3 aliases there:
    ImageIO.framework
    ImageKit.framework
    QuartzComposer.framework
    (3) In my case, the QuartzComposer.framework was actually a folder. I removed this and created a new alias to
    /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/QuartzComposer .framework
After making the new alias, iDVD now works just fine. Not sure why this frameworks folder had become damaged like this. I am hoping that there are no negative effects on any of my other applications, but I've kept a backup of the original folder just in case.
I moed the quartzcomposer folder to 2 levels back and made an alias and put it in the A/frameworks folder and viola...iDVD worked for me! I am a happy mac user now

Thanks, had exactly the same problem.
    Switched to administrator
    $ su adminusername
    Navigated to the folder
    $ cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Frame works
Listed the contents of the folder
    $ ls -le@
    Renamed the folder QuartzComposer.framework
    $ sudo mv QuartzComposer.framework/ QuartzComposer.framework.old/
Replaced with a symbolic link to the correct framework
    $ sudo ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/QuartzCompose r.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Frame works
    iDVD works!!!

  • Magic iDVD Not Working

Some strange issues with Magic iDVD. If I click the Magic iDVD button on the iDVD start window the window closes and no project comes up, if I go and Quit iDVD the window appears and asks me to save project *Magic iDVD*.idvdproj. Now if I open iDVD create a blank project close the project then click magic iDVD it works with no problems. Anyone have any ideas?

    Its somehow related to:

I had the same problem. when I removed all the .avi files from my "Movies" folder (~/Movies) Magic iDVD worked as advertised.
You should also remove the iDVD folder in /home/Library/Application Support/
    Hope this helps.

  • IDVD not working with Canon HV20

I am trying to do a one step DVD with iDVD and my HV20 camera. When I click on the one step DVD it gives me the message to connect my camera an put it in VCR mode and insert a DVD and press OK. No I have the HV20 in Play mode and after I click on the OK put it goes back to the iDVD startup screen. I launch iMovie and it sees my HV20 no problem. Any ideas?

I sure hope so. But don't hold your breath. (Apple seems to be on the fast lane toward streaming video as opposed to burning it to Dvd-R or to a blu-ray disc).
Btw, You might have better luck with Roxio Toast 10 Pro. I don't think the folks over at Roxio have ever heard of a bag of hurt. Their software simply works.

  • Chapter markers to idvd NOT WORKING

    I created chapter markers...
    I sent movie to iDVD...
There is no sub-menu with the chapters.
I checked preferences and I have it all set up correctly (I assume).
Any ideas? I really need to get this done for my son's class.
    Thanks.
    Dwaine
According to this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov3ac6b3ff.html  I should be able to export to iDVD and the chapter markers should be there...
If you’ve added chapter markers to your project, you can simply burn the project to a DVD or export it, and the chapter markers will be recognized by iDVD, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Front Row, QuickTime Player, DVD Player, and most standard DVD players.
Click to select the project in the Project Library, or open the project, and then do one of the tasks listed below. The Share menu appears in a light gray bar across the top of your computer screen.
To share your movie with iDVD, choose Share > iDVD, and then burn it to a DVD.
To share your movie with iTunes, choose Share > iTunes.
To send your movie to the Media Browser, choose Share > Media Browser. When you send a project to the Media Browser, it will be available for use in iDVD the next time you open iDVD, which recognizes chapter markers.
To export your movie as a movie file, choose Share > Export Movie.Keep in mind that movies exported in the tiny format don’t include chapter markers.
To export your movie using advanced QuickTime options, choose Share > “Export using QuickTime.”

    This has been fixed...
Turns out I was adding COMMENTS and not CHAPTERS!

  • Disc burned Idvd not working

I have this 22gb movie that i exported using FInal cut with standard quicktime movie. IT is about 2 and half hours long. I switched my idvd settings to DL DVD but the dvd doesnt play on anything. Not my mac, not my dvd player, not my xbox or wii. What settings should i use to fix this? Should i export the movie to Compressor and then to idvd?

    Sorry
    Think You missunderstod the reply
Yes the disk image played on DVD player
I used a 2x record speed and still no good
DVD DiskImage - can ONLY play on Your Mac
It is NO physical DVD disk - but an icon on Your Desktop e.g.
You make it in iDVD by selecting
resulting in an icon - Movie.img
and when You click on it it opens as a Simulated DVD (or most often looks like an extra Hard Disk)
    Movie
and It has NO Burn speed as it's stored on Your Hard Disk
In this You will find (as on any standard Video-DVD)
    Play it with DVD-player tool
If it plays OK with DVD-player tool - burn it by using Disk Util tool and here set burn speed to x2
Do not insert any DVD until You are asked to do so - else You wind up with a Data-DVD - and not a Video-DVD as You would like it to be.

  • 2 process of IDVD not working (Activity Monitor)

Sorry, found a post with the same problem and without a solution. Since I can't delete this, please take a look at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1727581??

Your link seems broken, but other readers should know that iDVD and its helper applications often appear as "not responding" in Activity Monitor. This is not something to worry about, do not force-quit iDVD just becasue of this.
"Not responding" just means iDVD is too busy to answer queries from Activity Monitor.....

  • IDVD not Working...

I'm trying to make a DVD with a short film I downloaded off the internet. After I add in some pictures into the Drop Zones and a .mp3, I hit burn(or save as image), and it encodes. After it's done, I get something along the lines of,"Burned with errors" and the SL DVD-R is completely empty and there is no image file if I chose save as image. All I get is a 4.03GB .dvdproj save file and a frozen IDVD. At first I thought it was because it was an .AVI file but then I converted to a .MOV with QT Pro and I get the same thing. It's set to 16:9, Best Quality and on a SL DVD-R. There's no errors before I start to burn or save... I don't know what's wrong, and neither does the guy from Apple I talked to on their Phone Support lol
Please help me, if it's possible

Might take a look at this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/24.html
You can't throw just any old thing at iDVD, even if the original source was "converted" to something that iDVD "likes." I'm guessing it's the +downloaded off the internet.+

  • IDVD is not working in Mavericks... what now?

I am very upset that iDVD is not working in Mavericks! I need the ability to burn DVDs for family who is unable to access the internet. Any patches or fixes available to make this software usable again? I am very disappointed that Apple would do this without warning users that previously purchased software would be incompatible with the new OS.

I am also having problems with iDVD under Mavericks. I have used iDVD for many years creating DVD's for family members and archiving our vacations. It worked great under Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion, but now Mavericks is a different situation.
I have two basic problems, (1) after importing the video I want to use, I play it back to preview and a small band shows up at the top of the screen that is not in sync with the rest of the screen. And (2) when showing a slideshow using standard jpegs there are color issues on playback. Help,  I need my iDVD back!

  • IDVD is not working...We did everything described

Why doesn't apple do Apple do something about it? We did everything described here. I bought my laptop with Leopard and DVD is not working since I bought it. We tried every thing described it was all to no avail. What can we do?

Came back to leave at least hope if not a fix for everyone....after going through every fix listed here and web wide etc., I finally trashed the entire app from the applications, then reloaded just the IDVD app using the two original ship discs (not the update of leopard disc) selecting customize and selecting just iDVD & extra iDVD features, to save time.
Before you go to the trouble of doing this remember you must clear all the other elements already listed elsewhere (easy to find in support here) so you have no holdovers from the previous install. After you load the iDVD app from disc 1 & 2, next update the software and at least in my case the %&^-thing finally worked...actually a really nice program.

  • IDVD is not working in IMOVIE

Hi, Couple of months ago I had to reinstall my Imac OS X 10.5 since then my iMovie's IDVD option is not working. I thought if I upgrade the OS and iLife it would solve the problem. Recently I upgrade my OS to 10.6.3 and Ilife to iLife 11. Even after I upgraded my IDVD option is not working on the iMovie. I can write dvd's using the regular IDVD program. But it's not working on the iMovie. Can any one help me out with this. I tried everything. Why the IDVD option on IDVD wouldn't work on my Imac.

I need to write the project to dvd directly using iDVD option in iMovie. That's what I can't do.
Some of us have found that Share to iDVD produces inferior quality DVDs than when exporting using Share to Media Browser (check posts by rrodby). At least, that was the case in iMovie '09 - not sure about iMovie '11. In iDVD, simply drag the exported movie into the Theme background from the Media>Movies tab.
The exported movie can also be used for other purposes, such as copying to a flash drive or external drive for viewing on a media player. The movie is located in the project's package contents. In Finder, right-click (or Control-click) on the project name and select "Show Package Contents". In the Movies folder you will see your exported movie. If you use Share to iDVD, you don't have independent access to your exported move.

  • Why is ken burns effect not working on individual slides I have amended when sent to iDVD

When making a slideshow in iPhoto, I changed the zoom and scan on individual slides as instructed in the Help dialog; these showed perfectly when played.  However, when I shared the slideshow to iDVD, those particular slides were just 'still' and there was no Ken Burns effect at all.  Why did this happen?

The Slideshow was created in iPhoto and then shared to iDVD.  The Ken Burns effect works on all the photos that used the basic "Ken Burns' setting.  However, on some of the photos I tried to amend the scanning to zoom into particular faces or parts of the photo.  When I played the slideshow in iPhoto, these amended photos were exactly as I wanted, but after 'sharing' it and viewing it in iDVD, those photos I had altered were 'frozen' and the Ken Burns effect did not work at all, neither the automatic version, nor the specific way I had set it.  All the other photos still had the Ken Burns effect as expected.  I am using  iPhoto 11, 9.1.5, I haven't had this problem in the past.
If you have any ideas why this should have happened I'd be grateful.
    Thanks

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • FCP Quicktime movie files not working with iDVD

I have been using iDVD for years with no issues. Now, whenever I export a QT file from FCP 7 and use it in iDVD, I get a blank screen with audio and no video.
I am able to work around the problem by using "Export Using Qucktime Conversion" and creating a smaller file, but I've never had to do that before. What in the world am I missing here? Shouldn't I be able to export as a QT movie, as long as the file is not gigantic? (the most recent one I used and had this problem occur was only about 500mb). Thanks for any help...
    Ben

    Hmmm,
Well this is helpful information but unfortunately didn't solve my problem. The movie in question is only 5 1/2 minutes long. When I export it as a QT movie, iDVD "acts" like everything is fine; I can preview it within iDVD, etc.But when I burn the disc, it comes out blank. I then went back to FCP and exported it using QT conversion, and the DVD burned just fine. (I exclusively use Taiyo Yuden media and have never had a bad disc).
This is just a simple 16:9 movie, shot at 720/30p on a Canon DSLR. I ingested with Log and Transfer using ProRes422, then dropped it onto the timeline, added a music track, rendered, and exported as Quicktime movie. It looks great on my desktop using the QT player, but it simply will not work in iDVD.  Still stuck here...

  • My iMovie & iDVD does not work properly at all.

When I try to share a movie in iMovie, it says "Unable to prepare project for publishing". As well as "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Error in user parameter list)". Also, it wont import any videos no matter what the format is. I have uninstalled the program & re-installed it but nothing seems to work.
iDVD does not let me create a project and edit it. It also does not let me create a DVD.
I have an '07 Macbook w/ Snow Leopard operating system and I have run out of ideas as to why these 2 programs are not working for me.
    Please help!!!

First try Resetting it: Hold down the home and sleep button, ignore the red OFF slider, wait for the Apple logo then let go.
If that does not work, Restore your iPhone in iTunes from your backup.
If that still does not fix it, Restore your iPhone and a new phone (not from backup) and see how it works. If it is doing fine you have a app you are using that is probably causing your problem. Load them one and a time until the problems recur and you will have found the one that is a problem.
