IDVD on Macbook Air

Wondering if anyone can help me find a way to use iDVD on my Macbook Air...ony have USB port and my Camcorder needs a firewire connection...converter or what???

Suggestion only: I'm not sure I'd want to edit (mindv tape) video work on a macbook air (not without a beefier graphics card, an S-Drive, and a FW port).
I'm curious ... Does your macbook air have the 4200 rpm HD or the solid state?
You may want to look into Elgato EyeTV 3 / usb products.

  • No iDVD in Macbook Air

I have a MBA mid 2011 and a super drive.  I don't understand why iDVD is not present in the applications.  How can I download it then?

You can buy the boxed set of iLife '11 from several sources, two of which are here and here at same price $49.99.

  • How do I access iWeb and iDVD on my new Macbook Air?

I just bought a new MacBook Air and read that I can load iPhoto 11, iMovie 11, and GarageBand from the app store, which I did. I don't see iWeb or iDVD anywhere, on the MacBook or in the app store.
I guess iWeb and iDVD are part of the iLife 11 package, which does not come with the MacBook Air (thought it did), but I wanted to check in case I am overlooking something.

If you have another Mac that you can connect to your Air with a local area network or int the Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire, you would be able to run the iLife 11 installer disk on the other Mac and select the Air as the location for the installation.

  • How do I covert downloaded (on MacBook Air) media files to play on a western digital media player?

Would be great if someone could give me a hand, very frustrated!
Anything I have downloaded on my MacBook Air I have not been able to put on my Western Digital Media Player.  The media player is recognised when it's plugged in to the Mac but I'm not given the ability to move any files or place any new files on the media player.
I have also tried saving movie files to a USB and then tried using my work PC to place them on the media player, this works - but the file format won't play.
    Thanks!

You also need to determine what kind of DVDs your player supports.  My player will play discs with image files on it.  Some players will even play files in mp4 format.  If yours will only strictly play DVDs in DVD format then you have to author them with a tool such as iDVD (no longer sold).
If you are playing these at home you might see if you can ouptu video straight to the video device from your MBA.

  • Burn to DVD from MacBook Air to USB Superdrive

Hi. I am not totally computer illiterate but i really need some help. I have two long videos of a show that Im in in Londons West End. Several of the lads have asked for a copy and I didnt think that would be a problem. Ha!
The clips are one of an hour and the second of 40 minutes. I use a MacBook Air and I purchased a USB superdrive to do the job. Followed the instructions to the letter, but the clips wouldnt burn as in total thay came to just under 10GB! Im struggling to understand how to get round this. For instance, if I buy a movie on DVD, i can get a whole movie of more than the length Im trying to do on one disc.
Is there something I either can do or need to do?
    Jon

You need to burn a video DVD using iDVD:
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • How to create dvd/cd image using super drive in MacBook Air

I have MacBook Air and also Apple Supper drive for the same. can u help me to find dvd/cd burrning and copy software. and also guide me "how to create dvd/cd image using super drive in MacBook Air"

First to create a video DVD you need to use DVD authoring software like iDVD.  You can purchase it from the online Apple Store while supplies last.
For creating a disk image use Disk Utility.
To burn items to a CD or data DVD just insert the disc in the optical drive and drag those items onto the disc icon on the Desktop.  Then drag the disc icon to the Trash icon in the Dock which changes to a Burn icon.

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Can't reinstall iCal on MacBook Air

my iCal had a meltdown. it stopped working - wouldn't allow me to add new calendars; wouldn't allow me to import a calendar from another Mac. I have the official MacBook Air install discs that came with the computer when I bought it from the Apple Store. I have the external DVD drive. I try to install iCal and it won't let me. I can't click on the "applications" box when I open the optional install package. I then used Pacifist, and installed iCal. now it won't open - I get the lovely "you can't use this version of iCal with this version of Mac OS." and the totally annoying thing is that it's the version from the MacBook Air install disc that came with the computer. and there doesn't seem to be any update anywhere on the Apple website. and I've run Software Update and it says everything is up to date. the iCal is 3.0.6 and my Mac OS is 10.6.3
I restarted the computer from the external DVD and ran Repair Disc from Disc Utility. I've repaired permissions. I've restarted several times. I'm at a complete loss, and it's really really annoying.
this reminds me of having my first IBM PC with 2 disc drives and 256k and how annoying that all was.
    what now?

iDVD has been discontinued by Apple and is no longer being offered.  You can purchase a copy of the boxed iLife 11 disc here: Amazon.com: iLife 11

  • ILife'11 on MacBook Air 2012

    Hi again,
Purchased MBA'2012 last month, its amazing and faster than my old MBP....
Wanted to know how to get access to iLife'11 on App store!! talk to support or there is direct link to register...yadayada.
    Help appreciated.
    Cheers

Your new Mac comes with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand for free, but you have to download them manually.
First, log in the Apple ID that you used to register your MacBook Air. Then, go to App Store > Purchases and accept iMovie, iPhoto and GarageBand, so they will be downloaded and installed onto your computer.
If you want also iWeb and iDVD, you must know that they were discontinued, so you have to buy iLife '11 on a disc if you want them. You can buy the disc on Amazon > http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1358591003&sr=8-1&keywords=ilife

  • URGENT! NEED TO BURN IMOVIE TO DISK ON MACBOOK AIR! URGENT!

    Hi,
I have made an Imovie on my Macbook Air. I need to put it onto a disk so that I can play it in a DVD player but I am unable to do this because I do not have a disk slot in my computer! I have exported the Imovie and I put it onto a USB. I put the USB into my other computer which is not Apple. It opened fine and it could play the movie but with a different program. I burnt the movie onto a disk and put it in the TV. The first time it said loading/reading and then it just said stop without playing or anything! I tried another time but this time I put the movie into another format on the USB, but once again I had no luck! It read the dvd then a message popped us saying " unable to play this disk!". PLEASE HELP SOON! I NEED THIS DONE BY THIS AFTERNOON! HELP!

    Hi
This is a problem - that's outside iDVD forum and even Apple too.
You need to find a person with know how on PC/Windows computers.
    I would in iMovie
    • Export - Share to QuickTime - and as .mpeg4 / here select .H264 and a high quality matching the material You used. And in frame rate (frames per second) as the movie project
    • I would import this movie file into JES_Deinterlacer (free from Internet) - to convert frame rate to what You need e.g. USA = NTSC = 29.97 frames per second ot EU = PAL = 25 fps
(as this does it so much better than to let iMovie or iDVD do this conversion (result would then be Very Bad))
    •  then move the file on a DOS / FAT32 formatted USB-memory ( LIMIT is 4Gb - if the file is 4Gb or larger - it has to be cut up in smaller files first ! - Else it wouldn't work)
    • Move it to a Window / PC computer - and from here find a friend that know
    - What DVD authoring program You need to use
    - How You do this
    Why ?
DVDs are in at least two flavors
    - Data-DVD's - as can be made by storing data / files onto a DVD (icon) on Desktop/Finder on a Mac
(it can store movies - BUT NO DVD-player can playback it)
    - Video-DVD's - as commercial movie-DVDs - compressed and structured in the right way - and can be played on any standard DVD-player
to get this to work even better I would do
    • Use Verbatim DVDs - MeMorex, NoName etc. cheap brands
    - usually do not work - to little organic dye in them
    • DVD-R - plays on more and even older DVD-players
(DVD+R on newer ones - DVD+/-RW I NEVER USE as they rarely works)
    • SL-DVDs - usually works better
    • IMPORTANT ! - I always set down burn speed to x2 max x4
as this reduces the amount of BURN ERRORS !
    • I run a Cleaning DVD (no liquid but the brush ones) from time to time.

  • Re-installing iLife on MacBook Air

I bought a MacBook air yesterday, but the mac did not come pre installed with OS X Mountain Lion.  I went to the website and got my Mountain Lion redemption code for free, so I restored the MBA to Mountain Lion.  Since the Air did not come with any sort of software reinstall usb, how would I go about re installing iLife 2011 on the MacBook Air?  I looked under the "Purchased" tab, but there is no sign of any iLife software.  Thank you for the help.

The problem is that you restore your computer. iLife is not part of Mac OS. It's an additional set of programmes. Apple just gives those for newly purchased computers. What you should have done is to upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion instead of erasing the drive and restore Mountain Lion. I would contact the Mac App Store support team and let them know. They should help you get those apps to download on your account. However, you won't have iWeb or iDVD since they are not on the Mac App Store. Send to the support team from this URL by selecting Apps and Software.

  • 2010 Macbook Air as Windows 7 Machine

So guys I'm looking into buying one of the new macboook airs, specifically the 13' with the 1.8ghz core 2 duo and hopefully 4gb ram. my operating system of choice is Windows 7 and i want to be able to use this like any normal pc if i purchase a macbook air. I know apple provides all the drivers needed for this and i could easly install it with bootcamp. I am just wondering if anyone else has done this and how performance is? I am interested in battery life, shutdown and startup time and any problems that may occur as a result of installing windows. Pretty much anything that you think i would want to know would be great. Thanks for your help.

    Alec,
The reason why I purchased the MBA (2.13) is for this exact reason, and in addition to use OSX for itunes, imovie, idvd etc. I have a ZuneHD for music in Win7, I can tell you that this is now my "only" machine. I went from a 15" i7 2.66, 8GB, with dual internal HDDs ( 256 GB OWC SSD, 500GB Seagate Hybrid HHD and moved the superdrive to an external enclosure) and this thing has met my expectations and continues to do so. I absolutely LOVE the weight. I have both OSX and Win 7 on it. I do not use parallels or fusion, I just boot to one or the other. I also use the new Crucial USB 3.0 124GB stick as a external drive to store things, it too is just as fast as my internal SSD. I have ZERO issues with this machine. I have ripped music, converted to different formats in both OSX/Win7, and ripped, converted movies. I too thought about purchasing a thin, lightweight windows machine, but then again I kept coming back to the fact of Apple's build quality. It simply cannot be beat. The funny thing: I went back to an older macbook ad, read about the 2.13 GHz Core 2 Duo and how its was X-times faster, better graphics, plays games, edit iMovies, make your own DVD with iDVD etc, and thought to myself if this can do it then with inferior memory technology, why not now? Is it just because we now have the "i" series CPUs? Nothing is really written to use the full potential of the new CPUs anyway. So if I am getting marginal gains, whats the point? If I saw a 50%+ increase I can see not getting the MBA. I can tell you that this MBA (2.13 4GB 256GB SSD) rocks.

  • I can't no more receive call on my MacBook Air 2013.

I can't receive incoming call on my MacBook Air 2013.
This mornig, when i'd upgraded my Mac all was fine and the incoming call were visible on screen.
Now I can only make call from Mac, and also FaceTime works well, but I don't see incoming call.
The change I made was to upgrade Java and VMware.
    Thank for attention.

As has already been pointed out both iWeb and iDVD will not be pre-loaded, however, you can still purchase both iWeb and iDVD by going to the Apple Store online and purchasing the iLife 11 boxed set that does contains both iWeb 09 and iDVD.  You can get it from Amazon too.

  • I am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier

i am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier photo please help me to recover my photos

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD
