IDVD on Snow Leopard: Flashing blue video on disk image

I recently updated my system to Snow Leopard and have run into this problem using iDVD. I created a 20 minute movie using FC Express HD and brought into iDVD. No problems creating menus, etc., and then created a disk image. While viewing opened disk image in DVD player, video played normally until some music started playing at the event I recorded. As soon as voice is heard in song, the video freezes, and turns into a flashing blue image. The flashing continues until the song is over a couple minutes later. After that, video displays again normally. I created a short segment (480x270) using Mpeg Streamclip to show how problem occurs.
http://www.roslender-ballroom.com/idvd/show.mov
(Might take 30 seconds or so to download before displays.) I was wondering if this is a DRM thing with the music playing in the background? Does SL have this type of checking now? If so, why wasn't audio cut out too? As a test, I created a disk image of same video using Toast 9 and it worked fine (no flashing). I also, booted up my 10.5.8 system backup and created disk image using iDVD and same iDVD file and everything worked fine there, with no flashing during segment with music. Puzzled.

Yes, I have added extra non-apple RAM, total is 8GB. I think first 1GB was Apple, and the rest are matched pairs from Crucial, a well known supplier of memory here in US. Memory info from System Profiler is below. Not sure how to check if memory is bad. Again, problem does not show up using iDVD in 10.5.8. If problem can't be identified, I'm hoping it will magically go away as future software updates are applied to 10.6. Thanks for your help.

  • Partitioning secondary disk drive to install Snow Leopard OS X using a disk image.

    Hello,
I had originally bought Snow Leopard OS X with a family licence. I installed it on my computer and then gave the disc to my cousin for him to install. Knowing he wasn't the best at returning things, I looked up how to create a disk image file from the Snow Leopard disc for extra precaution. As it turned out, I did not get the disk back, but I have the disk image saved to an external hard drive and burnt to a DL-DVD. I recently upgraded to Lion 10.7 but due to some compatibility issues (mainly Pro Tools) I wanted to partition a disk drive on my MacBook Pro's internal hard drive and designate it to Snow Leopard, to use when I run into a compatibility issue with Lion. As mentioned, I have a working DVD and .dmg of the Snow Leopard OS X, and have partitioned a 25GB drive for the install. However, I'm not completely sure where to go from there. I can the partitioned disk mounted on my desktop but I can not see it from "Startup Disk" nor using the "command R" keystroke at boot-up, only my primary disk drive. If anyone can give me some guidance or direct me to a link on this topic it would be greatly appreciated. I don't think it's very complicated, but this is my first time on these forums and the amount of information on here can get overwhelming for a new guy.
    Thanks,
       Chris

I've tried holding the C key during startup but that doesn't do anything, it just brings me to the regular start up screen and for some reason when I hold down the ALT key with the DVD inserted the only disk drives available are my system HD and "Recovery HD". I'm not sure why that is, I also have the disk image file saved to my computer. I read that using Disk Utility I can use the recovery option with the SL disc image as the "Source" and the partition as the "Destination" but when I did this, on reboot I got a 3-beep error sound. I'm not sure what the problem is but from my understanding it should be working. Maybe I didn't do something right when I backed up the SL disc but the files open on my system disk drive fine. I heard Apple will send you another disc if it's lost or damaged, I may just do that for safety's sake if there's nothing else.

  • I installed snow leopard and now videos on my Xfinity home page won't play

I installed snow leopard and now videos on my Xfinity home page won't play

You may be in the same boat as me.
I deliberately bought a refurb Feb 2011 MacBook Pro, because it would have originally shipped with Snow Leopard. I have to run an application for my job, which does not run under Lion.
Unfortunately, Apple is now upgrading all Snow Leopard machines, before selling them as refurbs. I purchased a legal copy of Snow Leopard, and have tried various downgrade solutions that I found posted on the net, without success. No matter what I do, it always goes into "three beep mode" after trying to install Snow Leopard.
The latest development came this evening, while I was talking to the "geniuses" at Apple. Apparently, there is now a firmware revision that loads the first time you run Software Update under Lion, and it locks the machine so that it can't revert to Snow Leopard.
The only option they have been able to offer me so far, is to return the machine and get a refund. This is maddening, as I HAVE to have a Snow Leopard machine, and can't find any other way to purchase one.

  • MBP 17" mid 2010 Snow Leopard Native: why not possible to install Snow Leopard in some new Hard disk?It appears "impossibile 'cause you have Mac OS X" 23.1.1."

Guys, I want to install SL in some hard disk. It's the native OS, the one came with the MBP. But after having installed Lion, my MBP doesn't allow me to install from the original dvd of Snow Leopard, telling me "impossible because you have Mac OS X” 23.1.1. istaller".
    Someone can help me?

hey thank you for your answers. I've written that I want to install snow leopard in a new hard disk, not over the lion. In other words, I want a hard disk with the faster snow leopard, that was the native OSX of my MBP mid 2010. But using the last procedure you suggested me, the dvd doesn't appear. I repeat, there's something changed in the firmware that blocks snow leopard.
the comunication that appears when I insert the original dvd of SL is something like "impossible to install snow leopard because you have Mac OS X” 23.1.1. istaller".

  • Snow Leopard server for 10.7 netboot image

    Hi Everyone,
I am trying to create a netboot image of 10.7 using snow leopard server but it is not working. I have already created an image of Lion and then tranfered it over to my server (Snow Leopard). I have scanned the image for restore (not sure if this is needed) and then mounted it using Disk Utility. Now when I lauch SIU then i don't see my pre-created image as image source.
Can i create netboot image of 10.7 using Snow Leopard?
                                            OR
If I created the netboot image using Lion Server and then tranfer the files over to Snow Leopard Server for all my client. Can i do this?
    Thanks,

    Hi Brian,
    Thanks for your help.
So if I create the 10.7 netboot image using 10.7 server and then move the NetBootSP0 folder to SL server then it should be working, right?

  • Why can't I install Snow Leopard on my videos hard drive?

I have a Mac Pro with four hard drives. Lion is on the primary drive but I need Snow Leopard for a legacy app. My plan is to install Snow Leopard on a hard drive that I use for video projects, and then restart from that drive when I need to use the old app. The problem is that the Snow Leopard installation disk says that it can't install onto the videos hard drive unless I partition the hard drive, which will erase all the data. Why can't it install onto the videos hard drive? There's no operating system on that hard drive. The hard drive has folders for Final Cut Express Projects, iMovie Events, iMovie Projects, DVDs movies I've ripped, a folder of music, and an iDVD project. What do I need to remove to enable installing Snow Leopard?

If I understand what you are saying you have a drive with "stuff" already on it and you want to install a version of OSX on to it while still retaining that "stuff".  If that's what you want to do you cannot do that mainly because there's already "stuff" on that drive.
The only way you can do this is to either of the following:
    a. Copy the "stuff" off that drive to another drive.  Install the OS.  Copy the "stuff" back on to the newly created boot drive.
    b. Copy the "stuff" off that drive on to another drive.  Partition the drive into at least 2 partitions; one for the boot and one for the "stuff".  Install the OS into one of the partitions.  Copy the "stuff" back to the other partition.
Either way, if you want to use that disk for a boot disk, you got to get that "stuff" out of the way to do the OSX install on to that disk.

  • Snow Leopard crashes and video

    Hi all-
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my machine crashes once or twice a day. It seems these crashes are related to video- playing movies on quicktime 7 and X, streaming over the web on Safari, and rendering video with iDVD. To date I have reinstalled a clean versions of SL, 10.6.2, iDVD and it's still crashing. I have reset PRAM, repaired permissions, used disk warrior- nothing has helped. The latest odd thing is the top of the itunes window disappeared when browsing the itunes store. I have a reservation at the genius bar but would love to resolve this before I take my machine to the apple store.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks a million,
    Eddie

  • TS1440 When I start up, there is only the flashing folder with a question mark on it. When I tried to reinstall snow leopard, there is no hard disk to be found.

After rebooting my computer, there is only the flashing folder with "?" on it. I tried several things like PRAM resetting and whatnot, but nothing worked. I then tried to reinstall Snow Leopard, but it appears there is no hard disc to be found to install it. I also wanted to repair the disk first but it wasn't present in disk utilities. Did I lose my hard drive, or is this still salvagable?

That is evidence that your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

  • Snow Leopard Flash Player Security Vulnerability

In the "What were they thinking?" department, various sources are warning about security vulnerabilities in the older version of Flash Player that is included with the Snow Leopard installation. It is recommended that the newest version of the Flash Player be downloaded from the Adobe web site and installed. D'oh!
    http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10344478-37.html

    Raymon:
You should probably be updating Excel to 10.1.6 anyway; then run the new Security update. In fact, if you're running Excel with MS Office X, I there's a combined updater to take care of all the products in that Suite. (Run repair permissions from Disk Utility before installing.)
I wouldn't be concerned with older flash files you have previously put on your Mac. I'd just install the new security update(s) and go on with enjoying your Mac.
Yes, you'll also want to update the Shockwave Player or other Flash-based Macromedia software you might have installed, based on the listing at the bottom of that referenced site.
I'm not really surprised about views/replies. "Vulnerabilities" don't necessarily mean that there's anything vicious roaming around the net right now, but rather that something in the software code was discovered that might allow such things to be enabled. If something affecting Macs was running rampant, I suspect that it would be reported everywhere very quickly.

  • IDVD with Snow Leopard 10.6.4

I recently installed SL fresh on a new hard drive. I have reinstalled my iLife apps from my Tiger disc. iDVD seems to open to the screen where I can create a new project, etc... When I click create a new project and name it, nothing seems to happen. I have waited and waited...then I can quit, it asks me if I want to save changes, and nothing happens....I eventually have to force quit. Is there a fix for this?

I deleted the cache idvd file and the plist idvd file. I rebooted the mac. I repaired disc permissions. There are like a gazillion permissions differ with regards to airport utility and they have all been repaired (I wonder what that was all about?)
Permissions repair is complete. There is nothing about idvd at all. The airport stuff concerns me though. Would this have anything to do with the new hard drive and the snow leopard install? The hard drive is a Hitachi 1TB.
Then I ran repair permissions again just for fun to see if they would come out ok. There was something about permissions differ on system/library/frameworks/java. all were repaired.
Why would I have so many repairs on a brand new hard drive? Gees.
Ran it a third time and had the same as last time. Shouldn't there be a time when there would be no repairs especially when it shows that the permissions have been repaired?
    OK...opening idvd
I get the opening screen where I chose what I want to do
    I click create new project
Create project screen comes up where I name it
save it in movies under my home folder
then nothing. It is running though
    I wait...and click quit idvd
do you want to save the changes to this projet?
    and i can't click anything...beachball is spinning
go to the dock and force quit
    and that is it
    what do you think

    Browser: SeaMonkey 2.25
Flash Player: currently installed is version 10.3.183.86

  • Burning movies with chapter markers crash iDVD in snow leopard

    Hi Everyone-
When attempting to burn movies that have had chapter markers added in iDVD, my machine will crash during rendering. Removing chapters fixes the problem, but I would like to use that functionality. I've tried the usual fixes (delete plist files, permissions repair, re-install iDVD, re-install snow leopard) with no luck.
    Any advice out there?
    Thanks

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard

Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions

  • Quicktime X, Snow Leopard and "record" video @ 30fps?

I finally got the Logitech Vision Pro camera, and it records my video at 30fps.
I was about to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but I tried QT X & QT7 on my friends MBP after he installed SL, and we could not get the same camera... at the same settings to get 30fps. (low motion blur).
I plugged the camera back in my MBP (10.5.8) and get the 30fps every time.
I'd like to install SL but this is holding me back. It took me a long time to finally find a solution to be able to record with a webcam at 30fps.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Please post here if you can figure out how to get 30 fps.
I need to capture my hands on the guitar without blurring for sharing quick ideas.
    Also.. overhead piano.
I had finally solved it, but Snow Leopard has taken it away for some reason.
    Thanks

  • Fonts shifting in Snow Leopard Flash CS4

We have noticed Fonts shift down in our layouts. Our files are very messed up. One particular font that is doing this is TheMix. Anyone else have this happening? Any fixes out there? The same file opens and displays just fine under Leopard.

I just want to add that we have the same problem. Fonts seems to gain some additional line spacing for no reason.
They render just fine under 10.5, but when you open the very same file in Snow Leopard, most of text if shifted down.
The font in question is TVNord family.
Adobe, please fix it as soon as humanly possible!
Looks like a huge problem with how fonts rendering is handled in Snow Leopard.
