Idvd on Tiger

I just upgraded my macbook pro from Lion to Tiger and now idvd won't work. Do I have to purchase ilife 11 to get it to work or is there a way of upgrading idvd?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Where can I download iDVD for Tiger?

I accidentally damaged and then deleted my copy of iDVD.app. My original installation disks seem not to contain it. Where or how can I obtain a new copy? (My computer is a G4 — PPC — with OS X 10.4.11.)
I should be most grateful for any help.

Thanks very much, Bengt. In fact after posting my question, I had another look at my original eMac instal disks, using Pacifist to extract the individual items, and found iDVD. But when I tried to extract the iDVD files, Pacifist ran for a while and then produced hundreds of error messages, the text of the first one being: 'The file “/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/Pacifist Temp/475/c8ee2105af3d47b89d1d120e519cbf2a Contents/3262dcc7d3094161a472b7087bf26be3 Contents/bf8fa90c09f04c8eb9b65e0be7b887d1 Contents/./Applications/iDVD.app/Contents/Frameworks/Oxygene.framework/Oxygene” does not exist.' (The others are similar.)
I was unable to get rid of these error messages, however many times I clicked 'Continue'. and could not proceed any further. Could the reason be that when I bought my eMac, the OS on the disks was not Tiger but a much earlier version of OS X 10.x, and, now that I am running 10.4.11, it will not accept the files from the instal CD?
Is there anything I can do about this, short of re-installing my pre-Tiger OS and then updating everything again?

  • IDVD on Tiger better or worse then Panther?

I'm currently running iDVD 5 on panther, but thinking of upgrading to tiger thinking it might fix a few bugs. Anyone have opinions on weather iDVD is better on Tiger then Panther?

Other than this "little" issue, works fine on Tiger:

That said, I fine little in Tiger to get me to upgrade to Tiger on my PowerBook. Don't get started about Spotlight...

  • Extracting iDVD off Tiger Install Disc

I have an iBook without a SuperDrive. Just purchased an external DVD burner. How do I extract iDVD off the install discs since iDVD is not an application on my iBook as yet?
    Thanks.

If you're referring to a purchased copy of Tiger then iDVD won't be on it. If iDVD came with your computer you will have to get it off the discs that came with it. • IDVD dropping sound

I have a project with 4 short movies. The project seems to burn fine but during my longest movie (38 min) the sound drops out of the last 5 minutes.
These movies were created by FCP. I was able to manage a DVD Studio Pro version (which is not working very well (barely works) with Leopard. I managed to get it to burn and there is not problem with the sound. I would use that copy, but the menu skips. I am really having a lot of issues with my Final Cut Studio with Leopard. Even after yesterday's update.
By the way, I built the same project on my daughters computer using idvd with Tiger and the same thing happened. No sound for last 5 minutes.
    Any insight is appreciated

What brand and format DVD are you using? Making a disk image and then burning? Burning at what speed?
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility. You can set burn speed in iDVD '08 if not creating a disc image.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his iDVD 6 book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
I buy Verbatim white inkjet printable in stacks of 50. Verbatim's part number: 94971. They have been flawless for me.

  • IDVD 5 won't start, icon bounces and dies

I'll repost another person's post, since I cannot improve on the question. He didn't receive an answer, but that was way back in January.
    Here's his post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1489142#1489142
I'm afraid I've tried all the odd little fixes, deleting library/preferences/ file; fixed all the permissions on all the disks; rebooted; reinstalled iDVD, reinstalled Tiger, upgraded, searched this discussion group numerous times... still get a couple bumps from the icon, and nothing. No iDVD starts, and the crash log contains about the same results as this gentleman's does.
The key issue I'm seeing is "image not found". Very not good.
His log results, same as mine:
When I attempt to launch iDVD I get the following error in the console...

You know, Sue? I think you may have hit on the basic issue. I was reading it as iDVD image not found. But you correctly recognized the crash log is in fact saying the library that is corrupted... Possibly from my time spent installing X11/unix applications.
    An intimidating booger up.
    So, for others' reference:
    Original message, key contents:

    And now:

  • Adding Tiger to a separate HD on a Sawtooth G4 - Hangs during installation

Hi everyone... I recently purchased a Sawtooth G4/400 MHz from a local auction for $45. It came with a 6X DVD drive (yuck), 2 10 GB hard drives, 128 MB ram, and OS 9 preinstalled, but no disks or other peripherals.
Last week the HD in my iBook died, and, as I am otherwise in a predominantly windows environment at home and work, I am going through Mac withdrawal . So, I thought I would start messing with that old PowerMac until I have the money to buy a laptop hard drive.
Basically, I'm used to OS X (OS 9 leaves quite a bit to be desired) and would like to install it on this computer. I knew 10 GB was going to be a little small for OS X, so since I had a 80 GB HD laying around, I replaced the slave drive in the powermac with that and formatted it in OS 9. I then put my retail OS X Panther disk in the drive, rebooted the Mac while holding down the "C" key, and booted from the disk.
I saw the familiar Apple logo, went through the agreement stuff, and then the screen popped up to select the drive. The spinny-thing in the right hand corner indicated the computer was looking for drives, and then...
...it stopped. Nothing happened. I left it on overnight in case it needed lots of time... still nothing.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need more memory? Does this computer even support OS X?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    You're Welcome!
Tiger will run fine. A little slow, because of the processor speed, but you should be fine. Other iLife app's, and graphics will be a bit slow, and you don't have enough processor for burning in iDVD, but Tiger will work fine.

  • How do you burn imovie DVDs in Lion?

I just bought a new i7 iMac with Lion, primarily to transfer my old videos to DVD.  While I see this iMac has iMovie 11, it doesn't come with any iDVD, and the old iDVD from Tiger will not work on it?  How am I supposed to burn copies of my final project? Is Apple scamming me, because I see iDVD comes with the $50 iLife app...

If you expect to use iDVD or iWeb in the future then get a boxed copy of iLife 11 while they are still available. AS Ziatron mentioned many have complained/asked Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iDVD.html or iweb.html and received a boxed copy. If you're an iWeb user then this might be of interest:
It is now apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, is no longer  supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be solved with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Won't read DVD, won't eject it either

Just got a new refurbished macbook, and whenever i put in a DVD the DVD doesn't show up on the screen, and it only plays after a few minutes. It is also difficult to eject the DVD and won't until after several tries

It reads and burns CD's and CD-R's no problem. It will read and play any DVD-R that was NOT burned using iDVD. (A standalone DVD recorder) I just burned a quick test DVD-R with iDVD 5.0.1. Interesting that it plays fine in both the imac; PC and a conventional home DVD player.
However, any DVD-R that was burned on the imac using iDVD PRIOR to Tiger will NOT read. (the imac claims it is blank)- I have trouble shooted it to be a Tiger and/or idvd 5.0.1 problem with DVD-R media. In summary, everything burns and reads EXCEPT for DVD-R media created with iDVD AFTER Tiger. I can play on the imac a DVD-R burned with iDVD after Tiger.
DVD-Rs created not using Tiger that were burned two years ago on a standalone machine play fine. So this seems to be a post Tiger issue with DVD-R media. Pretty crazy stuff.

  • Can i Burn Dvd's with my Powerbook G4

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook G4 Running Mac OS X Tiger it has a Matshita cd-rw cw-8123. I was under the impression when i bought my powerbook that i could durn Dvd Movies with it, as i thought it was standard with any Powerbook G4.
Please can someone assist with the following.
    1 - Should i be able to burn Dvd's
2 - Can i get the software added to Durn Dvd's

    Simon -
Earlier versions of iDVD and Panther did not allow you to burn directly from iDVD to an external DVD burner. With the current version of iDVD and Tiger, you can. You just have to select the external burner. However, you can also burn your DVD as a Disc Image to your hard drive, and then burn the contents of that Disc Image to your DVD using Dragon Burn or Toast. Finally, there is an Easter Egg available that will work with Panther, enabling you to burn directly from an older iDVD and Panther to an external drive.
I wish I could be more specific and offer more step-by-step instructions, but it's been awhile since I did that. But, here are some links that you will find to be more helpful than I can be:

  • IDVD 4.0.1 quits when burning using Tiger

I have been using iDVD for years and it has worked perfectly for all of that time. I recently upgraded to the new Tiger OS and since then I have been having problems.
    I have a flat panel iMac with a 800 MHz G4 processor & 758 MB of RAM.
Every time I try to burn a disc it quits. Since it takes so long to encode I usually start burning before I go to bed and (expectedly) every morning when I check on it there is a message saying that "iDVD has unexpectedly quit". The dvds work when I play them, but for some reason I am unable to make copies. This is very inconvenient because I make wedding videos and usually need to make several copies and I can't afford to take 8-12 hours for every copy I need.
There seems to be a problem of compatibility between iDVD 4.0.1 and OS X 10.4.2
I see that other people have been having this same problem. Is Apple doing anything to fix it?

Just thought I should post back and let you know that I seem to be up and running again! Many thanks for all your help. I read through everything, and tried several of the suggested fixes.
First of all, I rebuilt the movie part of the project by importing the movie from the finder, rather than through iMovie. I tried a burn, but still nothing doing.
I then cleaned up a bit, as I did not have the apparently neccessary 20Gb of space- I had 17, so I deleted older files until I had 20.5Gb.
I then trashed the iDVD prefs, ran MacJanitor, Repaired Permissions, and restarted the computer.
Then, first try, my disc burned in a little over 15 minutes! Expecting the worst, I watched the whole thing on my DVD player (a 5 minute movie, and 4 slidehows with music and transitions), and it worked perfectly. I immmediately tried a second burn, and again it worked no problem.
    Am I just lucky?
Again, thanks for all the advice posted here!

  • How to install iDVD/iMovie on Tiger if you have the Leopard version of iLif

I have iLife '09 and iWork '09. Will these work on Tiger 10.4.11? I bought those for my Leopard computer. But the computer with Tiger I don't think it will run on it. How do I get the Tiger version of iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, and all the other apps included in iLife and iWork? Would I have to get another CD and pay full price?

I have iLife '09 and iWork '09. Will these work on Tiger 10.4.11?
iWork '09 will work with Tiger.

  • I re-installed OSX Tiger and now I haven't got iDVD, iMovie & iPhoto???

    What's going on?
I re-formatted the mac with the tiger installation disc and everything is at factory settings but there's no iDVD, iPhoto or iMovie, but I do have iTunes.
Do you know what's going on, can you help?
I purchased my mac from a person who had it on display. I don't know though maybe iLife doesn't come with the OS, I thought it did. If so, then where is it?
    Thanks guys

    Hi ltpowda,
please check what kind of install DVD you have. Is it gray (hardware specific restore disks) or black (retail full install version).
If it is black you are out of luck. The retail versions do not include iLife. You have to buy iLife separately.
If they are gray AND fit the exact computer model you have you can find detailed instructions here:
Using Restore discs with computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later

  • Will Tiger support iMovie 4, iDVD 4, and iPhoto 4?

My daughter's new iPod nano will force me to upgrade from OS 10.3 to 10.4 (not yet ready to gamble on 10.5). Can anyone please tell me if iMovie 4, iPhoto 4, and iDVD 4 are supported in Tiger? I really depend upon these for my workflow and can't take any chances... Thanks!

Thanks, Lennart -- that's exactly what I wanted to know. About once a year I ask a question and you've always come up with the answer and been a terrific help! Many thanks!

  • My iDVD 3 disappeared with Tiger Upgrade

I recently upgraded to Tiger which I purchased. I just realized that my iDVD 3 has disappeared, and upon search, found it in Previous system under library:Receipts folder.
I tried to reinstall and it would not let me - error installing...
I tried to download an upgrade for iDVD 3, and it would not.
I don't want to purchase it since I have it but can't seem to get to it....

You see, when I got my disks, a set of 3, it turns out disks 2 & 3 are identical in content even though labeled differently. I checked all my other disk sets including Jaguar (which came with the computer) and I did not find it (using "pacifist").
That is really unfortunate. One thing I want to emphasize is that the Software Restore program is unlike the installer program, I don't know if Pacifist would see these software or not. The link in post # 1.1.1.1.2.1.1 shows a picture of the program.
If all fail, I suggest you contact the Apple Care or Apple Store (if you are near one).
