IDVD, playing my 16:9 (non anamorphic) movie as a squashed 4:3?

I exported a movie from FCP using quicktime conversion with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (1024 x 576). It is not anamorphic.
When i make a DVD using iDVD widescreen 16:9 [or 4:3] is squashes the film into an anamorphic image. Kinda weird because if it was anamorphic to begin with then it would make the image even more skinny. I went to the 'help' tab and it told me to do exactly what i had already done (i.e "select 1024 x 576 when exporting from FCP").
Please help...! I got a deadline fast approaching and i am sure this is simple for someone out there.

Of course, the actual content put on a DVD is anamorphically squeezed to fit on a standard definition disc. The content SHOULD be un-squeezed on playback.

FCE HD Settings Were Wrong-Can I Save Anamorphic Movie?

I just edited my first movie on FCE HD 3.5. On my initial setup, I neglected to use DV-NTSC Anamorphic (just DV-NTSC). When I burned my DVD I got a 'windowboxed' 16:9 aspect ratio (black bars all around). I just reset the setup. Am I stuck with the non-anamorphic movie or can I export it again, this time as anamorphic? I did film in anamorphic and the viewer seems to show a 16:9 picture, and I would hate to recapture and edit again. Any good news?

Certainly you can drop in a QT movie but dropping in the original sequence will work as well, just drag it in from the Browser (grab the original Sequence icon created when you first started the project)
Please note: Something has to be in the new sequence first; in other words, overlay a Slug or some Bars at the head of the new sequence's Timeline then drop the new sequence in after that. When you export, set your In point after the Slug/Bars and at the head of your original sequence

Go into the Map mode and make sure there are no items in the far left hand bin.
If there is something in that bin drag it out, save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process. To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Does anyone know how I stream non-MP4 movies to apple TV?

Just migrated from PC to Mac Book Pro...love it but dissapointed that I can not stream non-MP4 movies to Apple TV as I do using CineX Player on my iPad.
Does anyone know a work around???

"Air parrot" will stream your desktop to Apple-TV.
So if you use VLC or somesuch player that has a "fullscreen" mode and plays non-MP4 movies you can stream your non-MP4 movie to AppleTV. I've done it, and it works OK, and it is as requested a "work around".
You can try it out for free (http://airparrot.com) and if you like it, it's not very expensive.
Only problem I've encountered is having to use the Mac's system preferences to switch sound back to the Mac after I've finished with Air Parrot.

Right click on them, select "get info" then "video", then select a category from the "video kind" box.
Click ok. Sync your iPod to reflect the changes.

There are two termes
• Region coding - this is set to zero = Plays every where
• TV-systems
In EU PAL is most common (25 frames per sec)
In US NTSC is only standard (29.97 fps)
EU DVD-player usually can play NTSC disks (old TV = result is black/white)
US Players NEVER plays PAL
If Your DVD is to be played on a Mac (computer) NTSC or PAL doesn't matter.
IF not it's VITAL.
*(Going from EU to US - You have to do oppoisite)*
I do my movie in PAL in iMovie
Use MPEG Streamclip to convert to NTSC
Start a NTSC iDVD project - Burn

Urgent Help Needed... iDVD Playing Muted Clips

So I just finished editing and creating a project for school with three friends in iMovie. We filmed a scene of Hamlet in the style of the godfather, and to explain our shot choices we copied the entire movie to a new project, muted the audio on all of the clips (Select all, then dragged to zero on audio option), and then added the voiceover that we recorded on garage band. This plays fine in iMovie, but when I added this movie as a special feature in iDVD not all of the clip audio was muted.
Around halfway through the movie the clip noise starts playing. I have gone back three times to iMovie and made sure these clips are muted, but each time I put the movie on iDVD the clip noise returns.
This project is due Monday, so I am in need of some quick help. I really appreciate it, and you might even get a mention in the credits of our film, lol.

a. There can be a problematic iDVD pref file. Delete this and start a new project.
b. There can be to little free space on internal boot hard disk
c. There can be problems with what iDVD got eg strange file formats as .avi, .wmv
and audio from iTunes
Converting them to .aiff audio and use this in movie projects solves this.
Else (some stray ideas)
1. *Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
2. *No audio on DVD disc.*
Most common origin:
1 Imported audio from iTunes:
• In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
• Use this in Your movie project
2 Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
• Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
Before burning the DVD:
• Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
• Double click on the .img file
• Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD:
Burn at x1 speed:
• In iDVD08 - or -
• Burn from DiskImage with Apple Disk Util tool
• OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

Itunes 11.1.3.8 shows a speaker icon in front of the seclection but it is not playing. the progress bar does not move. there are speakers attached to the system and all other programs do profuce an audio output.

Go to the Edit -> Preferences-> Playback
In The bottom section of the page click the drop down menu by Play Audio Using and select Windows Audio Session or something other than "Direct sound" or whatever it displays. Click Okay. This worked for me! I hope it works for you too!

I have the same problem on the latest iTunes software and Windows 7. My window is maximzed and I do not see any tab for photos. Seems related to a recent update (IOS7?) as this was there - at least before the very big change to the interface.

Audio on the timeline, especially stream, tends to play very reliably. Is this project under any NDA or can you provide a FLA to examine? Let me know if you want to private message it and I'll shoot you a message.
What version of Flash Player are you targeting and is this AS2 or AS3?

Non-linear moves in Ken Burns effects

Pans and zooms tend to ramp up in speed. This doesn't happen all the time, but enough that it is a problem. Anyone else dealing with this?

to be serious, iM Grandmaster Karl Petersen had mention this often in this forum and gave some alert to Apple... because, in many cases, a non-linear movement look much better, in some absolutely not...- so, there should be some check-box.-
only workaround so far: make the movement and the time a little longer; cut off the unwanted exaleration..- :-/

Playing subtitles in a Quick Time Movie.

I have recently installed perian on to my MacBook Pro as I want to play .srt files (subtitles) while the movie was playing. Problem is that I cannot seem to get ot to work. can anyone please suggest a reason why it won't work or how to make it work.

Might be too late since you've already done the work but this is the best $20 you can spend if you do a lot of subtitling.
