IDVD project locked

I recently redid my harddrive and I just now tried to reinstall it, but the massive amounts of problems I'm having with that are for another time. My project in iDVD is locked and I can't access it. MY OWN PROGRAM LOCKED ITSELF!!!!! Please help, I need this done within hours. Please anything!

Hi BlindLuck
Welcome to apple discussions. Please explain what you mean by "redid my hard drive". Exactly how did you redo your HDD? Did you use Time Machine? Or do you mean you cloned it using Carbon Copy or SuperDuper and now cannot access a specific iDvd project file? We need more details and exactly which steps were taken to recover your data. Did you happen to change any user accounts or passwords along the way? If so, we need to know this as well.
You can try the following if all else fails:
Control-click on the project in the Finder to show the contents. Open the resources folder and delete 'project.lock' file. Hope that helps but if not just come on back.

  • IDVD Project Locked. wont let me open.

I recently wiped my partition and reinstalled all my apps.
And when I reloaded the OS I used a different name.
However when I try to open a certain iDVD project I get this message
"The project Bday Pool Party Sleepover 2009
is locked by the user xxxxxx (user ID 501):
    2009-08-26 16:48:09 -0400.
The project can't be opened at this time".
However Im able to open other iDVD projects I created under
the same previous user name but not this one.
And this is my home computer and no one else has access to it.
And I never locked or password protected it in iDVD if thats even possible.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

    To quote Rich839:
I would start with deleting preferences and doing a permissions repair. To delete preferences, close iMovie and trash the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User(the house icon)/Library/Preferences. iDVD will replace that file on relaunch. To do a permissions repair, open Disk Utility found in Applications/Utilities. Select your hard drive icon displayed at the top of the left hand pane, and then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait a few minutes while permissions are repaired, and when finished, launch iDVD and see if you still have the problem.
Last suggestion: Try adding a new user account with the authors name of the original iDvd project file.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • IDVD Project locked ownership on different mac?

Moved a project from the mac I created it onto a different mac and it wouldn't let me open it saying the owner (me!) had locked the project for editing?? Tried the usual permissions from it's Get Info in Finder but didn't change anything! Any ideas??

From the finder control-click on the iDVD project and select "Show Package Contents"
Inside the Contents folder is a lock file, delete that and you will be all set.

  • Can't open iDVD project

    Help needed
I had account for my niece and she was playing with iDVD creating her own projects. After I have reinstalled everything, I created account for her with different name and none of her projects open anymore!
The error is "Project locked by other user"
    How I can open it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Ramerez:
There is a file called Project.lock in the iDVD Project bundle that is preventing you from opening the project.
You can delete it by right clicking (Control/click)on your DVD project and selecting "Show Package Contents".
Go to the Contents/Resources folder and drag the project.lock file to the trash.
I think it will open now.

  • Error mesage: Project locked by other user?

    Hello,
I just re-opened my external hard drive after a month vacation from it and tried to open my IDVD file only to get an error message:
    Project locked by other user:
The project ZOOOM demo reel 10-07 is locked by the user Video (used ID 501): 2007-12-19 10:42:27-600
The project can't be opened at this time.
I went into the file's "get info" and unlocked everything to no avail. I'm puzzled. I have never seen this before. Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Jordan

Control click on the icon of your external drive and select Get Info. Check the box that says, "Ignore Ownership on this Volume." See if that solves it.
Make sure that your hard drive is formatted for Apple. Should be Mac OS extended or Mac OS extended (journaled). But if you reformat, be sure to first move your data to another drive, because reformatting will erase all data on the drive.
If that doesn't work, use the Disk Utility app on your Mac to do a permissions repair on both your startup drive and your external drive.

  • Difficulty burning iDVD project to disc

Help - My first try, and I'm tossing wrecked discs like frisbees! I've put together a lovely set of slideshows with soundtracks and set up an iDVD project to my liking (using a supplied theme), but can't get it to burn to DVD. I've checked out the burner by burning a DVD with a few BG's of compressed movies from iTunes (I needed to make some room anyway). I also managed to save my project as a .img file, which plays fine on the DVD player.
When I attempt to burn the project in iDVD, it goes through the whole process of rendering, encoding, inspecting, folding, spindling and mutilating (OK, I've forgotten all the steps), and it starts into burn mode: says it's burning the lead in, then a couple of seconds later it ejects the disc and says done. However, the process doesn't actually quit (even though it says done and nothing further happens), and when I press the cancel button it says "cleaning up" and then that's it ... seizes up and needs force quit to go on. No error messages are given when the disc is ejected. When I insert the disc back into the mac it recognizes it at first as an empty DVD, but shows up on the desktop as an empty CD-R not DVD. It is unreadable in a DVD player.
I looked through the troubleshooting section in support, and moved non-Apple files from the Library/Quicktime folder, and wasted yet another disc, not to mention the time it took to try to burn it.
Besides the obvious (DVD-RW would save a bit of plastic now, wouldn't it!), any thoughts??
    Many thanks for any hints!

    Thanks, F Shippey -
I tried burning the .img file, through the Finder (is that the same as doing it through Disk Utility? Probably not, but D.U. was not interested... see below) - didn't want to even start. So I found a DVD-RW disc - at first D.U. wouldn't erase it (unspecified error). Stubborn soul that I am, it finally worked the third time (ok I also rebooted in between). A direct burn of the .img file went through, but wasn't readable as a DVD (the player knew there were some mp3's on it somewhere...). So I erased it again, and tried a burn direct through the iDVD again. Success! And when it got done, it asked if I wanted to do another, so what the heck, I threw in one of the DVD-R discs - a new one off the spindle - and that worked too.
When I look at ANY of these discs on Disk Utility they all seem to say they're not writable when I choose the Information tab, even if they're identified as DVD-RW (Locked: Yes, Writable: No"). And yet, then they go on to be writable after all. That isn't right, is it?
I am starting to wonder if my superdrive is a little wonky. Either that or this spindle of DVD-R's is funky (Memorex - I'd have thought they'd be pretty reliable?). At any rate, I've been able to make it work this once, so, well, I'm not sure what. I'll keep plugging along.
I'll leave the thread as unanswered for a little bit, in case anyone has any other thoughts.
    Thank you all.
    L.

  • Project locked permission madness

OK, I reformatted my entire drive (I was having all kinds of crashing and preference corruption and got fed up). Anyway...
I then restored the contents of the old Movies folder (From Time Machine) to the newly formatted drive with new accounts (and new account names). Using the Get Info window, I have been able to fix the permissions on 3 out of 4 iDVD projects (part of an entire set I edited).
However, there is one project which will not open at all. I've made sure the permissions to Read & Write for ALL accounts on my machine: 3 plus "everyone" and "system."
Here is the error I get:
    Project Locked by Other User
The project PRTPRB001 is locked by the user administrator (user ID 504): 2009-06-07 10:19:47 -0500.
The project can't be opened at this time.
I had this same error for the other projects. By changing permissions as described above, I eliminated the error and can open and save. It's driving me crazy why I cannot do this with this one project. Does anyone know what could be the solution?

Maybe you should have a look at the Mac OS X discussions. There are a few threads on problems with permissions, padlocks on hard drives. There are a couple of suggestions in using Terminal to overcome your type of problem. I had a similar problem and was able to get a Terminal fix that worked.

  • IDVD '08 suddenly won't open older iDVD projects

All of a sudden, my iDVD projects created with iDVD 06 will not open in iDVD '08.
No changes to the system or software, currently running iDVD 7.0.2.
I've copied older iDVD projects from an external HD to my desktop and tried to open them with iDVD, and iDVD goes unresponsive after about 5 minutes. I've tried opening them directly from the external HD and still no joy.
Ownership and permissions don't seem to be a problem, and the files are not "project locked".
One week ago, this process was working like a charm. (Occasional "project locked" issues, but that's a trivial fix) Now, with absolutely no SW updates or anything, it's hanging up on me.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, have you solved it?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Problem burning iDVD projects using external LaCie burner

I recently purchased a LaCie DL d2 DVD RW with LightScribe 16x from the LaCie company (12/07/2007). The LaCie burner is connnected via Firewire to my iMac. The iMac is a little over a year old and I am running Mac OS X (ver. 10.4.11).
The primary reason for my purchase was that I wished to create/burn iDVD projects on my iMac computer. The reason that I needed this product was due to the fact that, when I purchased my iMac, I made an error in judgement , and ordered it with a combo rather than a SuperDrive. So, while I am able to create iDVD projects and iMovies, I am unable to burn DVDs with of projects on the Combo Drive that came with the computer.
Thus far, however, I have not been able to burn a DVD with any of my iDVD projects. I am running iDVD 6 (ver. 6.04). When I attempt to “burn” a DVD disk the “Creating your DVD menu” appears. When I put in a blank DVD+RW 4x 4/7GB, it appears to go through the process (Prepare,,, Process Menus... Process Slideshows... Process Movies and Burn procedures). The DVD is then ejected and a message says that it is done and is “cleaning up.” However, that message never leaves the screen and when I click on the “Cancel” button, nothing happens. The iDVD application seems to lock up and I have to do a “force quit.”
I have tried this with three different projects, all with the same result. When I place the supposed “burned” DVD in the Combo Drive, it spins for a while and then kicks the DVD diskn out.
I have also tried launching Toast Titanium 7 (software that came with the LaCie burner). However, I see no place where I can “drag & drop” an iDVD project to the “drop zone.’ The closest thing seams to be “movies.” However, when I select that mode and go to my iDVD folder, all of the files are “grayed out.”
Can anyone help me out? Should I be able to burn iDVD projects with this unit? If so, what am I doing wrong.
Thanks for any help/advice that anyone can provide.
    Jeff White

open up Toast 7, click on Video tab, click on Image File and drag your img. file to Toast.
    John,
That's not correct. In Toast 7 you must use the Copy tab to burn a disk image to writable media. See page 94 of the Toast 7 manual.
(The procedure is slightly different for Toast 6 and Toast 8 but always involves using 'Copy')

  • Idvd Project contents stored where ?

I have an iDVD project that I have burned, I want to be burning discs on multiple macs that are all on same network. How can I accompish this?
I drug the project off my macbook onto my imac, and it tells me the file is in use and locked since the macbook was burning at the time. If I were to drag the actual prject contents over, instead of just the alias woudl that solve the problem? And how would i find those contents? is it a right clikc and view content? any help is appreciated!

    relbus:
What you need to do is save the iDVD project as a disk image using the File->Save as Disk Image menu option. Next, mount the disk image and play with DVD Player to make sure the encoding was good. Once you've confirmed that the disk image play as expected on your computer you can copy that disk image file to the other computers and burn using Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed possible. Also use good media like Verbatim-R which is the most respected brand here.

  • Can't burn new DVD on older iDVD project

I made an iDVD project with all our summer pics for the kids, and burned DVDs for them. I got the pics from folders I'd made in iPhoto. Now I'm trying to burn another DVD and get the following message: Errors in Project. There were errors during the project validation. These errors have to be fixed before burning the project."
I have no idea what the errors are - the only thing I've done since burning the original DVDs is delete the old folders in iPhoto. The pictures are all still in the library.
    Please help & thanks - J

Does this mean that I have to somehow "save" or "lock" the folders that I've used to create an iDVD project?
Just don't change any names or paths to images used in your active iDVD projects if you expect to reedit/reuse them.
Once you have finished a iDVD project, save the encoded project as a disk image file. The disk image file is not dependent on the orignal source content file name/location. This will enable you to burn additional copies to writable media in the future. You can NOT reedit a disk image file without using something like DVDxDV to convert the mpg-2 content to something that can be reused by iDVD in a new project.
If you have LOTS of external hard disk space, you can save your completed iDVD project as an iDVD Project Archive file. This will contain all the source material needed to reedit the project and as a result may be very large!

  • How do i add a second movie to an idvd project when 'sharing' from imovie always opens a new idid window?

I am creating an idvd project with multiple imovie projects.  I know I need to share my imovie project with Idvd.  WEhen I do that, idvd automatically opens.  Now I want to add a second project.  The problem is that when I share imovie projects a second time, it automatically opens a second idvd project.  I want to add multiple imovie projects on one idvd project.

One should not share directly to iDVD from iMovie.  The Share ➙ Media Browser option should be used as that results in a better quality movie in iDVD.  Do the same for both movies and you can drag the movies from the Media ➙ Movies pane in iDVD into the DVD menu window at the left.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
