IDVD software

On the advice of an Apple telephone helpline assistant I reinstalled OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.3) due to a problem with special sound effects not working on Final Cut Pro.  iDVD was installed with my original set up but unfortunately iDVD no longer works although it is still installed on my computer but there are no longer any themes on the programme. It appears I should have reinstalled Snow Leopard first as advised by another Apple helpline technician and I don't wish to go through that operation again as it was a little complicated.  I am therefore considering another iDVD program.
The problem with iDVD is that chapters can only be inserted at 5 minute intervals and not where you might specifically want them. Is there any good quality software on the market which enables chapters to be inserted by the operator at their designated time.  Nero has a programme but unfortunately not for MAC only windows.

What system came preinstalled on your iMac?  If it was Snow Leopard or earlier then you can reinstall iDVD from the disks that came with your Mac.  It will look like one of these:
Do a custom install and update to the latest version if it isn't iDVD 7.1.2.

  • How do I obtain a copy of the discontinued iDVD software?

I need a to purchase iDVD but have learned that Apple has discontinurd the software. I know it works on 10.8 because I have seen it on a new MacBook Bro 17".
The question is: How do I obtain a copy of the discontinued iDVD software?

On an iLife 08 or newer DVD.
He's referring to the boxed disk for iLife 08, 09 or 11.  All contain iDVD 7.  You can the iLife 11 disc here: Amazon.com: iLife 11 (assuming you're in the States).  Otherwise check the Amazon.com for your location.

If this is correct, fine, but does it mean I now have to fork out for ilife 11 which i keep hearing bad things about ?
Or is there another route for me to get my movies on dvd.

Can't you still but iLife 11 with iDVD and iWeb at the Apple Store
I just did a search in the App Store for iDVD the only thing that comes up is a tutorial however if the OP goes to
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC623Z/A/iLife-11?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
and purchases iLife 11 it comes with:
    iPhoto
    iMovie
    Garageband
    iDVD
    iWeb
Interesting enough that seems to be the only way I can find to get iDVD.

  • What software can I use on OS X Mavericks to burn my photos on a DVD? iDVD is too slow and crashes.

I am using a late 2009 13" macbook pro with Mavericks. I want to backup my photos on multiple DVDs. I tried using the iDVD software that came with Leopard. iDVD keeps crashing and is too slow. Is there any good software that any of you has used?

What version of iDVD are you using?  If it's version 7 but not the final 7.1.2 version download and run the iDVD 7.1.2 updater on the app.
If you do have 7.1.2 try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • IDVD creating disk image larger than it should be.

I exported an iMovie to iDVD and set up the dvd using one of the supplied themes. I checked the disk info to make sure it will fit the DVD-R. The program says my file should be about 3.9 Gigs. The disk burn was incomplete so I tired to create a disk image instead. The size of the disk image is 4.57 gigs.
The incomplete dvd would play all the way until the last few minutes of the movie and then crash the dvd player.
The last time this happened to me I had to reinstall the OS and lost the project I was working on as a result. Does anyone have a less drastic solution?
I have about 60 gigs of free space on my hard drive still.
    Thank you

The movie was just under two hours long. It is about the length that I used to make all my previous movies. I know that if I reinstall the OS and software that it will correctly create the disk image. I have already tried reinstalling the iDVD software and the result is the same problem. I also know that the file should fit the disk because when I look at the project info it shows that the project size is 3.8 gigs. It is just that when I do create the disk image the final file size of the image is around 4.57 gigs. (The project info still shows 3.8 gigs after creating the image.)
It would take several days of backing up and reinstalling software and I would like to avoid that if possible as I would also lose a lot of my preference settings. One other symptom, if I tried to burn data disks from the finder, I have to restart between burns or the second disk will fail to burn.

  • IDVD 7.1.2 will not burn a iPhoto11 slideshow

Is there a problem between iphoto 11 9.2.1 and iDVD 7.1.2?
I created a slideshow using iphoto and using SHARE IDVD (which the iDVD software was open) it moved the slideshow over to my theme project in iDVD.
I could view and play.  Now I wanted to burn it to a DVD.  The iDVD when through all it processing makes it to Multiplexing & burning.... does the asset parsing, then goes into multiplexing, from there  I get an error message "Multiplexer Error... error during building.... the disk is still untouched...".
So looking at your last download fixes for idvd in july 2011 update was to fix the slideshow problem and it has not.  Is there a problem between iDVD and iPhoto 11?  Will Apple come out with an update, or fix, or a new software that one will have to purchase?
    Waiting on Apple

It appears that there is a missing part of the system:
      Library not loaded:
    /Library/Frameworks/NyxAudioAnalysis.framework/Versions/A/NyxAudioAnalysis
Download and use  Find Any File  to search for NyxAudioAnalysis.  If you find it and it's in the correct location reboot and try iDVD again.  If you don't find that file you can try reapplying the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 updater to see if that will install that file.

  • IDVD 3 calibration problems when burning

Help! I'm having calibration error messages when burning iDVD-R discs in iDVD 3. I've had success in the past with Maxell DVD-R 8X discs but other brands and other speeds won't work. I can't find Maxell DVD-R 8X discs anymore. Do I need to update the iDVD software? I'm at a loss to figure this one out.

    hi sue,
i purchased the verbatim dvd-r and burned 1 dvd successfully. unfortunately, it will not burn again and i am prompted with the same error message: Power calibration area error: (0x73, 0x03). what is weird is that when i tried to burn a .mov file using toast, i was prompted with an error similar to the idvd error (0x73, 0x03). Could this be a problem with both idvd and imovie? i am able to burn data onto dvds within toast, just not files that i have created using imovie and idvd. i hope this makes sense!
    thanks

  • IDVD won't read nor import DVD-R movie

I have a very old version of iDVD, 2.1.2. I have trying to create a highlight film for my girls basketball team. I know I don't have a combo drive but I'd like to create something they could watch on my old ibook. I have recorded a few of our games on my Sony Handycam DCR DVD305. I can watch the games on the ibook but iDVD wont import any of the games. I assume my iDVD software is just out of date. Am I correct?

    Hello Coach,
iDVD is not meant to import/edit videos - iMovie does the editing part. If you want to import footage from a DVD have a look here: http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/convertdvdstodvs

  • IDVD missing on new purchased iMac 21"

    Hello;
is this normal that the iDVD software is not installed on a iMac 21" OS X Lion?
Can i get it through support call? Or is this purchasable option?
Or is there any other software available to burn iMovie content using the builtin DVD writer?
The dvd should be able to play in standard dvd player.
    with kind regards

Make a couple of phone calls.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753
    800-275-2273
If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.
Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

A friend bought a Mac Pro, I want to also, he cannot download a project movie from Imovie to IDvd, because I Dvd is not downloaded on his $3000.00 new computer, what has apple done, how do you download & burn a movie project from Imovie if you do not have IDvd software, all previous systems had IDvd on them to do this. • IDVD 4.0.1 error - not compatible with Mac OS X

I have a Mac PowerBook G4 and I updated the software with leopard. I have Mac OS X Version 10.5.7. For some reason, every time I try to open up iDVD the following message appears:
"You cannot not use this version of application iDVD.app with this version of Mac OS X."
I have tried to download updated iDVD software, but my Mac will not allow the update to go through.
This is the information regarding my iDVD software:
    Version: 4.0.1
    Last Modified: 3/1/04 1:01 PM
    Kind: PowerPC
Get Info String: iDVD 4.0.1, Copyright 2001–2004 Apple Computer, Inc.
    Location: /Applications/iDVD.app
How would I go about updating my iDVD software so it will function on my Mac?
    Thank You.

You need to purchase a more current version of iLife. From your information, it would seem that iLife '09, which is currently being sold, would work on your computer. To be sure, check this out. http://www.apple.com/ilife/systemrequirements.html
If you do not wish to purchase iLIfe '09, then see if you can find a copy of '08 on sites such as eBay.
    I hope this helps.

  • IDVD and it's needs to be updating

How can I update my IDVD software?  My currect IDVD software is at 7.1.3.  Where can I go to update this?
    Mac OS X  10.6.8

The last version of iDVD offered by Apple was 7.1.2.  So you couldn't have version 7.1.3.  Recheck the version you have.  If it's 7.1.2 then you have the last version offered.

  • Picture is cropped when burning an idvd project that was created in imovie

Good Evening! I am a new Mac user and finding it fun to work in imovie. However, I am running into a problem and looking for advice on how to fix it. I uploaded some pics from my camera and created a great 4 minute video in imovie with music, transitions, etc. I created it with standard settings and shared with multimedia Large, then added it into an idvd project. The problem is when i burn the dvd and play it on my dvd player the pictures are zoomed in a little. Let me give you an example..the very first slide is a group picture and underneath is the caption "circle of friends"...on the tv..the two people on the ends are not visible and the caption is also not all visible..what could be the problem and what is the fix?? please help this is what i was working on for a christmas gift...oh one more thing..when i preview you it in idvd and imovie and even on apple tv...it looks great..just when i burn it that it doesn't come out right

Read the iDVD software "Help" files to learn more about the "TV Safe" area.

  • Editing IDVD project on more than one Mac

I have started a project on my Imac and now I want to move it across to my daughters Macbook so I can carry on editing on the move. Now I have saved the project as archived on my IMAC, and moved across to my Macbook, but every time I try to open it says ' An error occured while loading the project. This project seems to be write protected and can't be opened' I assume this is something to do with the different usernames? But i have give permission in the file for her name and it stil isn't working. Can someone shed some light please? Do I need to create a Disk Image? Any help appreciated thanks

    Hi Hollabwolla
Welcome to apple discussions. Suggestion: Instead of "giving permission" make a new user account on your daughter's laptop identical to yours. Hopefully this will allow you to open the archived iDvd project on your daughter's mac (assuming she has identical iDvd software).
If the above fails then try placing a check in the box that says Ignore Ownership and Permissions after getting info from the File menu or (apple + "i")
and selecting the External Volume. You'll have to open the last triangle /arrow titled "Sharing and Permissions" at the very foot of the get info box on the ext. HD.

  • IDVD project not playing

Using my main iMac computer and iDVD software, I have just completed my fifth attempt to make an DVD project. I am unable to have a disc that plays... error message says that I'm inserting a 'blank disc'.. but if you look closely, one can see the project has been burned onto the DVD disc.
I've used  13 pieces of .mov footage (Project is a short documentary, with 12 x  individual stories -- all 13 pieces of .mov footage were compressed with FCP7, taken from the full documentary); one .jpg pic as a drop-in on the main menu; and I used the Sunflower template with chapters.  This project works when I use the Preview feature.
I finished the project, and burned a copy (and I repeated this five times, as I couldn't get the disc to work (checking the Preferences, and Project Info for settings: burn speed 1x, with High Quality encoding - not, Professional quality).
I put this copy into my MacBook Pro, but the disc won't read - says it s a blank disc. I've repeated this several times, but not had any luck yet, to make a playable DVD (and I need it to play on both Mac and PC computers).
I"ve even burned this as a Disc Image, and opened with VLC, and the file plays...... but, now what...?
I cannot get a disc that plays, even in my Macbook Pro.  I would be grateful for your advice.

    Hi
Sorry to say - I'm not clever enough to follow Your steps.
BUT - I made a note on how I get movies from FinalCut (Pro) to iDVD and onto a DVD.
May be it can help You.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1) - never any faster as this use to give BAD DVDs
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving
