IDVD - subtitle intros

Is it possible to have a 20-sec video clip intro for a subtitle? The subtitle consists of a jpeg picture with audio background
I have been unable to add anything - video or audio clip - to the designated area when constructing the subtitle contents

Do you want this 20 sec. video clip to play before the ????  What do you have in the iDVD project?  A slideshow of stills created in iDVD or a movie/video file?
If it's the slideshow of stills you can add a video clip at the beginning of the slideshow.  iDVD 7 not allows video clips to be added to slideshows:
If you want the video clip to play immediately when you put the disk in a DVD player and then fall out to your menu just add it as movie to the menu and then, in the Map mode, drag that clip into the Auto Play bin.
The clip will play and then fade into the main menu.
If those are not what you're trying to do describe in detail exactly what it is.

  • IDVD slideshow intro

Looking for some info...I got the IDVD slideshow together pretty good but having trouble with the introduction. I'm trying to open the show using text with the marquis then seamlessly move into the picture show. The problem is that this isn't happening. After the marquis intro, the playback stops. Then I have to push the play button again to start the show. I can't get them to link as one continuous show.
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry iDVD doesn't let you change menu functions in that manner.....the themes are neat, but the functions are fairly preset.
The only way to avoid having to use the menu (and push play) to move to the show, it to avoid the menu altogether by using the "autoplay" part of iDVD.
You'd have to add your "marqui" to the slideshow itself........Command-option-4 might grab your marqui as a "still " as it now exists.....add it back to your iPhoto sildeshow. Then use "Send to iDVD" in iPhoto, and just close iDVD when it opens. Then create a new project in iDVD. Go to map view. Then look at your media pane, and find the movie that iPhoto ctreated from your slideshow, and drag it into the autoplay window.

  • After burning idvd the intro is pixelating.

The Chapters and video all play correctly, but the intro does not. What is happening? Thanks

    Hi Mary
Intro: Do You mean the selected menu in iDVD - or - Did You do an
intro in Your movie (and may be with photos in it)
If first one - I can only guess that the free space on Your internal hard disk is
about 5Gb or less - should be at least 25Gb (in iDVD You can't select another
hard disk as scratch-disk it has to have the internal start-up one)
If second - Don't go from iMovie to iDVD by Share/Export to iDVD from
within iMovie. It asks for rendering - then it does two errors:
    - You get a severely pixelated file that goes to iDVD
    - It also HARMS Your movie project. You have to delete the photos and re-import
them and eventually re-edit affected parts.
    I do: Close iMovie
    Open iDVD
Drop the movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
Now iDVD will do the rendering - and so much better.

  • IMovie / iDVD subtitles

    Hi guys,
I just finished creating my first DVD using slide shows and videos that cover the first year of my daughter, it turn out great! (Thanks Apple) but I do have a slight problem, I am Portuguese and my wife Romanian and I just want to create one DVD for all, so what would be very nice was to add both languages in subtitles and that is my question:
How can I add subtitles to my iMovie / iDVD project?
P.S. I write iMovie/iDVD because I have no idea what would be the program to add the subtitles.
    Thanks for the help

subtitles as on commercial DVDs (switch on/off) are not possible with iDVD..
for sure, you could create two versions of your project..
within iMovie, create another version in which you add 'titles' as subtitles.. burn both versions on iDVD, one titles No Subtites, the other Subtitles (=or the Romanian word for it )

  • Getting multiple copies of iPhoto slideshow when I burn a dvd - why?

I just learned how to create a slideshow in iPhoto and struggled through the learning curve to be able to burn it as it appears in iPhoto. I got so excited today when I burned a dvd and it actually played on my TV's dvd player, though it was missing the iDVD theme intro. Then when my slideshow was over, the theme intro played and the entire slideshow played again. In other words, I have at least 2 copies of the slideshow on the disc.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? thanks!

    Hi
Most common origin to this are:
Brand of DVD used - NoName, Memorex etc cheap brands might work as Data-DVDs - BUT NOT as Video-DVDs
Type of DVD used - I only use SL-DVD-R as they also playback on older DVD-players. DVD+R for newer DVD-players. Never ever DVD+/-RW. Dual-Layers usually creates more problems than Single-Layers
BURN SPEED - Very IMPORTANT factor - I never go faster than x4 - Normally I use x2
Material used - Video Codec, Photo and Audio file formats
Video-Codec: StreamingDV, AIC and HDV (I use)
Photo: .jpg - NO .bmp or other - all converted to .jpg first
Audio: .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz (as on Audio-CDs) - NO .mp3, wma etc ailient formats - all converted to ..aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz first
Free Space: on Start-Up (Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - I never go less than 25Gb when doing Video-DVDs (for SD-Quality Video - if HD material is used 4-5 times more are a safe low level) (Other external Hard Disks - DO NOT COUNT as space here can not be addressed by Mac OS or iDVD for it’s massive use of .temp files)
Dusty DVD-burner Laser: I use a Cleaning DVD (no liquid but the one with brushes) from time to time.
Harmed DVD-burner Laser: Easy to do by burning more than three DVDs at a time - I let it rest for 30 minutes till next batch of three DVDs. If this happened - then only a costly repair will help. It will not heal by it self.
OBS: There are more than one Laser in the DVD-Burner so other functions might work OK as Playback CD/DVDs and even burn CDs. Still being broken.

  • In the iDVD window, there is a box in the lower left corner.  When I scroll over it, I get the message to hide or show the intro movie.  Checking or unchecking the box seems to do nothing.  Can anyone explain?

Working with iDVD on a project, there is a box in the lower left corner and sometimes another in the lower right corner.  Scrolling over the one in the lower left corner, I get a message indicating that this box hides or shows the intro movie.  I have checked and unchecked the box, but see nothing different in the project.  Nor can I figure out what is meant by "intro movie."  Can anyone explain?

Go to iDVD Help and type in Intro Movie, and you will get the full version of this:
Many iDVD themes have “motion menus” that include animations or video that loop, or play repeatedly, until the viewer clicks a menu button. Themes with motion menus have a motion icon in the lower-right corner.
In addition to background video, iDVD motion menus may also feature an intro, or short animation, that plays once before the part that loops. Other motion menus also include an “outro” that plays after the viewer clicks a button, serving as a transition between the menu and the selected content.
An example of an iDVD 6.0 theme with an intro and an outro is Reflection White Main. In this theme, the first drop zones appear in the intro, and the buttons and title appear just before the looping part of the background video. In the outro, everything flies offscreen after the viewer clicks a button.
iDVD provides tools for viewing these motion menus without going into preview mode, which is especially helpful when you are filling drop zones, and for turning the intro or outro off.
Here are ways to view and edit the background movie:
    ◼
Drag the diamond-shaped motion playhead along the scrubber bar (shown below), to view the background movie, stopping wherever you like.
(If you don’t see the motion playhead in iDVD, choose View > Show Motion Playhead.)
    ◼
Deselect the checkboxes at the left and right end of the scrubber bar if you don’t want to use the intro or outro, respectively, in your DVD menu.
The scrubber bar shows the intro and outro as shaded areas at the beginning and end.
You can also control the intro and outro from the Menu Info window. With your pointer over the menu (and with no buttons or text objects selected), press Command-I to open that window. Select or deselect the Intro and Outro checkboxes in the Background section of the window.
NOTE: If you drag your own movie to a motion menu background, the outro is automatically removed. To customize the background and keep the outro, use a still image in the menu background instead of a movie.

  • Error in rendering/encoding in iDVD v 7.1.2 with MacMini & music in intro not playing

I am having some difficulty in creating a DVD in iDVD.  I've created  50+ home DVDs before, but now I am getting this error message every time:
    Error in rendering/encoding
"There was an error during rendering/encoding of the menus/slideshows. The burning process has been canceled."
My process is the same every time:
    1.  I use iMovie and export the movie,
    2.  Add it into a new iDVD project, add music etc.
    3. Click Burn
I have cleared the iDVD cache, tried to recreate the project several times, tried to save the project as a disc image or video_ts folder and get the same error every time.
Additionally, I cannot get any music from itunes to play in the intro.  I've tried music from itunes purchases and music i've added via my cds.  I've never had an issue either playing in the intro before.
I am wondering if my DVD burner gave out.  If so, is there a way to check that?  Can I create the DVD image up to the point of burning and use homesharing to burn onto another Mac in the house (none of them have iDVD, but all can burn)?
    Help!
    Janetta

What version of iMovie are you using and how are you exporting out of iMovie to iDVD?
Where is your iTunes library located.  Some have reported problems with getting iTunes tracks to play when the library was on an external HD.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If you can create a disk image of the project that will play with DVD Player then we've narrowed down the problem to the burn process.
Can you burn a DVD data disk via the finder?

I created a theme and a slideshow in iDVD. The theme (intro) plays looped in the preview, but does not go on to the slideshow. How do I "un"loop it?

Perhaps someone on this forum has done what you are asking and would be more help than me.
I think it could be done, but you'd have to do some fiddling around. The concept is to make the iDVD theme part of your iDVD or iMovie created slideshow, so that it will play as part of the slideshow.
I don't know if this will work, but if I were experimenting I would try creating an iDVD project with just the theme in it, and then save that to your desktop as a disc image.  When you click on the icon of the disc image you have just created, you will see a Video_TS folder.  Open that and you will see a file containing the letters VOB.  Open that file.
You need to convert that VOB file back to DV or Quicktime Movie which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need  the free download MPEG Streamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/, which I believe costs about $20.
Open MPEG Streamclip and drag the VOB file to its window.  Go to the MPEG Streamclip file menu and click on Export to DV.
After the export is done, you will have a DV file containing the iDVD theme.  I would try adding that clip as your first entry in your slide show, assuming that you are running iDVD7.  (You can't add a movie to a slideshow in iDVD6.)  When you play your slideshow hopefully it will play the DV clip containing the theme, then seamlessly followed by your slide show.   If it doesn't, try instead exporting the VOB file to a Quicktime Movie, and then try to add the Quicktime movie to your slideshow.
You might be able to do this easier if you created your slideshow in iMovie instead of iDVD.  You could make an iMovie with the iDVD theme clip as the lead clip, and then share your iMovie project to iDVD.
Good luck with this.  As I said, perhaps someone else has an easier way to do this and will chime in.

  • Breaking bad subtitles works on idvd, but not on playstation 3?

    does anyone know why?

  • IDVD and subtitles

When I download movies from the internet and I want to make a iDVD-project and burn them on a DVD it seems not to be possible to put also the .srt-files that contains the subtitles to the movie. Is this not possible in iDVD? Most of the time I use the .avi movie-files

I've done a few tests and it appears that it does not import the chapters or text tracks.
    Oh well, back to iMovie.

  • FCPX and iDVD type film intros

Does anyone have any idea whether or not Apple will introduce into FCPX film intros similar to those we had in iDVD?
For  years I  pllugged away with Studio Pro then decided to use the iDVD stuff which made for a much happier production flow!
    Ron

iDVD is a disk-authoring tool (menus, chapters, stuff…)
FCPX is an edit-tool (movies; final delivery: one single file)
so, what makes you believe, Apple, which axed 'disk-making' about 7 years go, will in any future add obsolete DVD features???
the very-basic feature in FCPX, to export to a BluRay or DVD is meant as a 'quick'n dirty hand-out' for some speedy clients; not meant as a professional disk-authoring solution, which DVDSP, part of the FinalCutPro suite, was (again, last update ~7y ago…)
plus, if you want disks in iDVD-style - just use it.
iDVD and FCPX work like charme here, with MacOS10.8 ....
or purchase Adobe Encore, one of the last remaining 'professional' disk-makers.
… or am I lost in translation?

  • IDVD 6 - Subtitles?

Question about burning avi files to DVD with subtitles (.srt files). I tried burning a couple of episodes onto a DVD that had previewed with the subtitles successfully, before I started burning it. Is there a way/option to burn the DVD with the .srt files in the episodes? Any help is appreciated.

    Hi
As I get it - There is no such function in any version of iDVD at all.
To get the effect one (at least me) has to do several movies and subtitle them
in iMovie or FinalCut E/P then add them to my DVD project.
YES - this limits the duration of the movie severely eg 2 languages = 1/2 the time
and 4 languages the max per movie is down to under 30 minutes for SL DVDs
Most probably this can be handled in DVD-Studio Pro in FinalCut Studio 3 bundle
but then there is the cost - and a severely steep learning curve - to get it done.
No I've not seen this function in Roxio Toast™ either.
