IDVD to Final Cut

For some reason when I went to make a DVD (over time) I went back to imovie and my project was gone. I guess I was supposed to copy it before going over to iDVD.
I want to take it to Final Cut. How do I get there from iDVD?

Not Final Cut to IDVD but IDVD to Final Cut

Can I import the intros from IDVD to Final Cut Express? Either HI Def or not. If so, will chapter buttons transfer? If not , can I at least import the intros to Final Cut Express. I can't make anything as nice myself in Final Cut Express.

No. The intros are templates that only exist in iDVD. They get embedded into an iDVD menu.

iMovie Problems
I have iMovie for my iPad. Recently, I made a three minute or so long video, but when I attempt to copy it to iTunes, it does not show up in Home Sharing. This is really frustrating me because everyone is saying I need iDVD or Final Cut Pro, but I don't have a Mac, I have a Windows computer. It says, "sending project to iTunes" but nothing shows up. Both my dad and I are really getting frustrated, and this is really not what I had in mind when I wanted to "bond" with my dad on Fathers' Day. Please, anything helps.

Videos in the camera roll will be imported using whatever program windows uses to import photos from a camera.
It should be wherever windows puts photos /videos imported from cameras.
It won't be in iTunes.

IMovie to iDVD or Final Cut Pro to DVD studio pro "Better output"

I recorded some family videos onto a computer with a WinTV pci board.
Converted the MPEG2 to DV/DVCPro NTSC on my Mac with MPEG stremeclip.
Used quicktime to divide the tapes/clips where we had switched recordings.
Now i was going to use final cut pro but i am starting to like imovie 09.
I want to take the clips and add simple fades mostly cross dissolve fade to black and just nothing something not noticeable. Then once I have combined the events reasonably. I want to put them onto DVD.
Say our christmas videos
One DVD with each year christmas event.
And one for someone's birthdays through the years.
If you need me to elaborate ill try harder.
So should I use Final Cut Pro then have DVD studio make the DVDs Or iMovie 09 and iDVD 09. Which would have the best looking output.
Oh by the way how can i remove the static feedback from the recordings I don't care which application i need tell me which one.
If someone needs an example of the main sound i don't want ill post one.
Note: I will be posting this in the Final Cut Pro forms as well.

Since you have both, you should run both and see if you see a difference.
I would expect that a $1,400 product would outperform a $20 product (= 1/4 of iLife).
But the question is, How much better? and is it worth the extra effort to you? Only you can decide that.
Another option for you to consider is you can edit in iMovie and export your project to Final Cut Pro in XML. Might be the best of both worlds.

TS1233 How do I get chapter markers for iDVD from Final Cut Pro X?

It seems like a tremendous short-coming that Final Cut Pro X doesn't allow for chapter markers that can be used in iDVD or DVD Pro. Surely there is some way to get used-defined markers from Final Cut Pro X or at least re-define the Final Cut Pro X markers in the DVD authoring applications. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have decided to say that my problem is solved by the work-a-rounds that have been submitted. I STILL don't like the fact tha Apple has decided that DVD's are a thing of the past and therefore (chapter) markers are of no use. That may be true is the publishing world of YouTube, Vimeo, etc. but it certainly NOT true for many of us advanced hobbyists that still like distribution on DVD's to our friends or a more localized (private) community -- especially to those who are not computer literate. If Apple wants to exclude us from their customer base, I suggest that base will become even smaller than their competitors who still have chapter markers in their products. I'll get off my soapbox now. . .

Idvd in Final Cut Pro X

I do not have Final Cut Pro X as of yet, but I'm wondering, I do have iDVD & can I use iDVD in the current version of Final Cut Pro X?
If I have iDVD on my computer and also Final Cut Pro X on my computer will that appear in the share portion of Final Cut Pro X?
Kind of wondering before I purchase Final Cut Pro X.

No. iDVD won't appear as a Share option.
You don't have to decide now. Download the free FCPX trial and see over the next month whether it meets your needs.

Slide show - iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD or Final cut?

Apple provides so many different ways to create a slide show I'm not sure which is best?
My highest priority is best possible quality. I prefer the flexibility, though more work, associated with iMovie (06). I own FCE, but it appears to be overkill. iphoto, and iDVD are nice and easy, but limited in control of music, and text overlays....
I recently created a DVD importing from a slide show from iPhoto, keynote, and native iDVD slide shows. I created it using the "proffesional quality" pref setting. it's good, but I don't think it's great! Some flickering on the Ken Burns affects, and text from keynote is a little fuzzy on the edges. I tried to make one with iMovie (06) and the application 'cored' on me (discouraging). But I've had good luck with iMovie in the past.
Can anyone share with me their experience to achieve the highest quality output?

As a general rule of thumb, Final Cut will usually be your best bet as it is the mini version of the pro app. iMovie '06 is good for quality. iMovie '08 seems to be a more crippled version, though. So, if that is the case, I recommend FCE.

Power mac g4 idvd and final cut pro 4

i got a duel 1ghz upgraded power mac 1gh ram but it seems slow to run final cut pro 4 adobe premere 6.5 seems to run slow and crash alot on 10.4.9 and i keep dropping frames i never seemed to have these problems on my imac dv600mhz on os 9 years ago but i do know seems os x is like xp compaired to 9 or os 9 in terms of crashes is my system able to do final cut pro edit video and make idvd movies?

I have a quad core i7 2,0 MiniServer. I bought it mainly for a file/print/web server but it does a great job running Compressor/Qmaster and FCP/DVDSP on occasion.
FW800 has a 80mb/s limit. If you need more than that, you are headed to thunderbolt. For a bunch of reasons, I'd capture with ProRes if you are working through the Matrox.
For simple capturing, it should work. The big caveat is 10.7 will not allow you to install FCS2 (no PPC installer support).

IDVD and final cut

Ok.. Everytime I try to export my video out of final cut pro with markers... and trust me I have done many ways... I try importing my video into idvd and it just inports the video... No scene selection.... I have done this before just the same as I'm doing now with the same computer and everything but nothing.... Anybody have any ideas of whats going on????

It isn't possible for a while.
But you can start a project in iDVD with at least the menus, and a false track that doesn't go anywhere.
Save to a disc image, and then open that image an extract the menu as a m2v file in MPEG Streamclip.
Then import that the m2v into DVD SP and add buttons.

Will iDVD be able to recognise the chapter markers created from Final Cut ProX Ver 1.1 ?

And i remember reading some where that iDVD cannot recognise the markers generated by the earlier version of FCPX. So I am not sure about the Ver 10.1

Please don't laugh at my question...
If you go from iMovie/iDVD to Final Cut Pro is it considered to be an upgrade?
I am wanting to get Final Cut Pro but wanted to know if I was eligible for the upgrade price or would have to pay the full price.

Are you going to use FCS professionally? If you're not using it professionally, just go with FC Express.
I doubt you're going to find a (safe) loophole to cut your spending considerably. You might have some luck with used apps/eBay, but its a risky process. You could get a stolen, registered, or simply broken copy. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
There is the educational option, but then you're forbidden from using the apps commercially and you can't upgrade in the future.
I would give a whole speech on how you should pay for the software like the rest of us, but I won my copy at a film festival and I am a tight wad. So I wish you luck.

Final Cut Express Audio Format

I have been editing my video in Final Cut Express, setting bars and tones for -12 db, making sure my audio is peaking at -12db. I then use the "Export to Quicktime Movie" command to prepare it for making a dvd that will be used for broadcast tv.
I then burn a dvd of this project with idvd.
Can you tell me what kind of audio file is created by idvd and final cut express during this process? the Export to Quicktime Movie command does not give options regarding the audio file and I was under the assumption that using the Quicktime Conversion command might degrade the video quality a little.
The network we are doing this for sends the dvd to be closed captioned and put onto a Beta tape and I just want to make sure we are compatible and that there is no audio degradation.

When you export from FCE to QuickTime Movie, the audio and video are both contained in the QuickTime file as parallel tracks. There is no separate file or extension for the audio. As far as I know, the audio is linear PCM, 48KHz stereo.
On DVD there is also no separate file or extension for the audio. When iDVD encodes the audio & video for burning, the embedded audio is also linear PCM stereo.
If you need to provide a DVD to your client, the DVD contains all the client needs and you don't need to worry about the encoding. If you were doing Dolby AC-3 or DTS it would be a different story, but iDVD only supports 2-channel stereo.

Final Cut Movie to QT ?

I am having problems with my iDVD and final cut movies. I want to use QT movies instead. What is the best setting to export to QT movie with the least amount of compression. FCE to QT ?

If the files were made by FCP it's possible that the codecs used would also only be supported by machine that have FCP installed.
Ask the authors to send you a file that uses H.264 video and AAC audio.

Burning a video from Final Cut Pro using iDVD

When I export and save my video from Final Cut Pro to a folder (export->Using Quick Time Conversion). When I do that there are several different videos that are saved in my folder (ie-Kelly Michelle; Kelly Michelle-av1; Kelly Michelle-av2; Kelly Michelle-av3; Kelly Michelle-av4; Kelly Michelle-av5).
iDVD is the program I need to use, I do not have any other programs. Therefore, I import the file to iDVD and once everything is ready in iDVD I try to burn the dvd. However, in the last stages of burning a window pops up and says that "an error was found during the burning process". It does not tell me what kind of an error it is. Does anyone have any advice or a step by step process that I need to do in order to burn my dvd successfully.

The simplest way to prepare a video for iDVD is to *Export/Quicktime Movie* (NOT Using Quicktime Conversion), select Current Settings, Audio and Video and, depending on your needs, other 2 options:
o- +Make Movie Self-Contained+ is preferred to have an independent movie (you can move the exported file, you can continue editing your FCP project before burning the exported version, etc.) but requires more disk space and more time for exporting.
o- +Chapter Markers+ (NOT All Chapters) must be selected if you created Chapter Markers in FCP (markers in the timeline, not the clip, and clicked the Add Chapter Marker button in the marker dialog).
The resulting .mov file (whether self-contained or reference) may be easily imported to iDVD.

I export from final cut pro 7 to idvd everything comes out fuzzy on the dvd

I film using a canon fs10. I edit in final cut pro 7, then export to quicktime format, then I burn the dvd using idvd. But the final product always comes out blurry and fuzzy. I can't see what I am doing wrong. Is it because I am not filming in HD?

Using iMovie, for one, is capturing your files to a codec other than one FCP wants to work with. You would be better off dragging and dropping the files from the camera to a folder on an external drive and converting the footage with MPEG Streamclip to whatever codec you want to work in.
Using iDVD to compress and author the dvd takes away any control you have over the compression settings for the project.
You'd be well off getting a FCP training book from someplace like Peachpit Press, or a training dvd from someone here or out there who produces them.
