IDVD version incompatible with Leopard?

Purchased Leopard OS and installed it in my Mac mini. Had no installation problems and all software updates installed with no grief. Leopard upgraded iLife components to v 5.x and they all appear to work except iDVD. The Leopard installation disk seems to have installed a version incompatible with Leopard OS. "You cannot use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OS X."
Any suggestions on how to make iDVD work? Yes, I know that I am the last one on the block to update to Leopard. I really am an old-timer and buying a new Mac is not an option. I didn't spot a post on this subject but if I missed it please direct me to it.

There is the assumption that Apple applications would not be made obsolete by upgrading the OS. e.g. Even AppleWorks which is no longer supported by Apple still works with Leopard OS.
Aaaah, the hidden costs of upgrades...
You can right click and get info on the program itself and you should be able to determine if your version should work with Leopard. My iDVD is v7.0.4 Only version 6 or 7 are compatible with Leopard.
Appleworks has many versions, but if I google: leopard appleworks problems - I get way too many hits to feel good about continuing to work with it. Pages seems to be able to be able to open .cwk files and they need to be converted.
A lot of people think that iLife is free, but it's actually part of the purchase price for the computer. Some people want to try installing iLife 09 on the older OS and come across the same issue in reverse because 09 requires Leopard.
In addition, iMovie 09 doesn't work on PPC Mac's even if they are running Leopard.
Apple's price for iLife 09 is $79 and they had a bundle for both Leopard and iLife for $169 but it's too late for you to get the bundle.
If there is any easy (inexpensive) way to get iDVD to work on my Mac mini, please let me know.
Amazon has iLife '09 on sale for $56.49

I would recommend that you download and install the excellent and Free "VLCPlayer for Mac", which reads many more types of files for video than Quicktime Player:

  • IDVD incompatible with Leopard

I recently upgraded to OS 10.5 Leopard and to my surprise iDVD reports that it is incompatible with the version of OS (iLife '05). However when I went to look at buying iLife '08 I find that iMovie has a minimum requirement of G5 processor or greater. So if I upgrade to fix iDVD I will break iMovie (or at the very least I am paying for software I can not use)
So I can't upgrade and I can't go back. I guess the middle ground is iLife '06 but that does not seem to be readily available anywhere and where I did find it they want $99 which is more expensive than iLife '08.
    Anyone got some ideas?

If you purchase iLife 08, you can use the other apps except for iMovie, and you should be able to download iMovie 6 for free. http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovieHD6

  • CC version incompatible with Mavericks?

Hi, i just upgraded my Mac to Mavericks. I got a message saying 'This version of Adobe CC is incompatible with the system.' Also, im getting a big PS CC error (inserted). AND, ive lost all the fonts i downloaded to my mac from Typekit. How do i resolve this? Pls help urgently. Thanks!

Thanks for giving that a try!  Would you please send your recent sync log files to [email protected] so we can take a look?
    On OS X:
    * Open the Finder
    * under the Go menu, select "Go To Folder"
    * in the window that opens, type:  /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/
Note that you need to replace "(username)" with your own account name.
(Or if you are comfortable working from the Terminal, cd to $HOME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/)
Attach the recent CoreSync-yyyy-MM-dd.log files to an email. Please don't send a zip file, as they often get flagged as spam.
    Thanks again,

  • Happily used Firefox for 2 years, suddenly it won't open - getting this error message: "Platform Version incompatible with minversion =1.9.1.11 maxversion =1.9.1.11" What can I do?

Before this happened, I was having a problem for about a month where Firefox wouldn't close. I'd close the browser window, and later when I tried to reopen it to connect to the Internet, I 'd get a msg saying that Firefox is already running, and I must close the current window before opening a new one. I'd have to restart my computer at this point.
I don't know if this is related to why I can no longer use Firefox at all.

The "Platform version incompatible" error message can be caused by a problem with the installation of Firefox. Remove your current installation of Firefox and re-install.
    # Delete all the files and folders inside the Firefox installation directory - C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    # Download the latest installer from [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ Mozilla] and install it.
Doing the above will not remove your bookmarks, passwords etc, since they are stored in a separate folder.
If after re-installing you get the "already running" error, see [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]].

  • Canon CD Tray incompatible with Leopard?

    Hi,
I'm a "happy" owner of Canon's iP4200 Pixma printer and I've occassionally used it's CD-Tray C for printing CD labels. This worked fine on my PC but ever since I got my Mac Mini with Leopard, I haven't been able to get it to work. Causal printing (even in color) works all fine, but as soon as I set up LabelPrint, pick the right tray, the right disc type and everything, it just coughs up an Error 1001 (claiming the CD isnt in the tray or the tray isnt in there) and it just pushes it out of the printer physically.
From what I've read, this is a casual problem for Mac owners, but everybody has been able to solve it by printing the actual file to PDF in the past; and then printing the PDF itself. This does not work for me, it gives me the same error (and it does the same when printing from Adobe Photoshop).
This makes me think it must be either a driver error or something in Leopard; I do have both the latest Leopard (10.5.1), the latest Canon drivers (4.8.3) and the latest LabelPrint (1.6.0)
I could print the covers over the network from a Windows notebook, but Mac-printer sharing only works with the Apple LaserWriter driver which is both slow and does not of course support any features like CD tray printing etc. Installing the printer with its correct Windows driver and trying to print over it just results in it not working; Windows printer queue is empty and so is the Mac's.
Do I have to buy another printer? And god **** it, what brand if not Canon? Is it even possible to print properly with Canon on Mac?
    Thanks for any replies!
    Daniel

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    See my printer FAQ*:

which may have some solutions for you.
Also note, printing labels for CDs is unwise. It has nothing to do with Mac or PC. Labels shorten the length of CDs. http://www.macintouch.com/cdrfailure.html covers that and much more. Basically for CDs, you should buy CDs that are prepackaged in a jewelcase, and not a spindle, and make your own jewelcase inserts or write on the jewelcase exterior the contents of the CD if you want to prolong the media life.

  • 1st gen iPod incompatible with Leopard?

I have a 5GB gen. 1 iPod which still works fine. However, when I hook it to a Mac running OS 10.5.7, it slowly goes to heck, taking the whole FireWire buss down with it. I then have to power everything off, unplug power to all FW devices, and reboot to get the Mac running again. Any external disk drives then need to be repaired with Disk Utility before use. This happens with three Macs, a new Mini, a white MacBook, and a G4 Cube. With a G4 tower running 10.4.11, no problem.
I tried repartitioning and restoring the iPod with ver. 1.5 software, which iTunes says is current. No difference. Anybody else run into this, or have an ancient iPod working with Leopard?

I have a 10GB clickwheel iPod that I've been trying to update just to use for some simple mp3 spoken word files and a handful of songs. Not trying to load entire iTunes library on it. Is the clickwheel not compatible with 10.4.11? I've used disk utility to erase and reformat my iPod, used iTunes to restore several times, and unchecked almost all my music just to se if I can get a handful of files to update onto my iPod. I don't care that it's not sleek and brand new, but I certainly hope I can use it still for basic stuff. I'm wondering if it's no longer supported by iTunes 8+ and OS X 10.4+. Does anyone know for sure and can provide an answer? If it should be supported, anyone have any other suggestions? It seems like it tries to update, but after I see the message that 6 of 100 or 11 of 100 songs have been copied, it just locks up and that is it. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Plug-ins Incompatible with Leopard?

I've downloaded numerous 3rd party plugs & Garageband (version 4.1.1) doesn't seem to register any of them after dragging the plugs to library>audio>plug-ins>components. I've never encountered this problem with any other OS/version of Garageband. I can live without most of my Waves plugs for awhile since they currently don't support Leopard, but desperately need a deesser and none (including Spitfish) will register. Is this simply just a compatibility issue? If so, are there any known [free] 3rd party developers that support Leopard?
    Thanks.

I've actually noticed that several third party plug-ins such as various iZotope aren't visible in GB08. The list incldes Guitar Rig 2, which I used with no problem in the previous verision of GB but it's nowhere to be seen in the list of plug-ins in GB08.
    I still use Tiger.

  • Quark 7 incompatible with Leopard?

I've recently bought a new iMac 24" 2.8Mhz which came pre-installed with Tiger.
I 'migrated' all my files and apps from my G4 - checked a few out - which worked ok - then upgraded to Leopard.
When I tried to run Quark 7 I got a message requesting a new validation code (as the app had been moved). I got a new code from Quark and the app appeared to set itself up ok.
However, when I tried to open an existing Quark file I got the whirling pizza.
After several minutes I had to do a 'force quit' to exit
If I try to create new file. I get the page specification box, then a window appears 'Bug Reporter - gathering system information" - then Quark shuts down.
At this stage I uninstalled Quark and tried to reinstall it from the original disk.
This time I got as far as inputting the Validation code - which the setup routine appeared to accept - then the installation routine just bombs out.
I reckon the only option I have is to clear everything. Re install Tiger. Migrate my apps and files again. And see what happens when I try to run Quark in Tiger.
Upgrading to Leopard - only when I'm sure Quark is working - my be the solution. Then again I might find myself back to square one.
Anyone else having problems with Quark and Leopard?

Had originally migrated Quark to my new Intel Mac then upgraded to latest version.
Uninstalled the lot then downloaded latest complete package from Quark website.
    Problem solved

  • Imovie and iDVD not come with Leopard?

My purchase of Leopard did not load iMovie or iDVD. I did an erase and install option.
I got iTunes and iCal, etc. but not the others.
Is this standard or did I load up wrong?
    anybody know yet?

This isn't a mistake. Leopard is the operating system.
iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and Garageband have always been part of a separate product called "iLife". When you purchase a new Mac, you get a copy of Leopard and a copy of iLife. If you choose to upgrade the operating system or iLife, you do so separately.
iTunes is distributed with the OS, but it's also free to download and generally treated as an independent product in its own right.

  • Problem Updating Safari/Version incompatible with iGoogle

I am currently running Mac OS X 10.2.8 with Safari version 1.0.3
This Safari version is out of date and in order to use Google and other basics I have to update Safari. I downloaded Safari 3.1.1 but when I click to install it tells me that the "Bill of Materials cannot be found".
Any tips, hints, guidance, suggestions? Completely lost as most update packets that I can download from Apple.com are for operating systems much higher than mine (10.2.8). This computer seems relatively new so I am confused as to why this operating system won't work with update software.

Hi Paigerh and welcome to the forums!
If you really are running 10.2.8 it must be quite an old Mac.
Mac OS X version 10.2 “Jaguar” was the third major release of Mac OS X, Apple’s desktop and server operating system. It superseded Mac OS X v10.1 code name Puma and preceded Mac OS X v10.3 “Panther”. The operating system was initially available on 23 August 2002.
You will not be able to update Safari unless you upgrade to at least Tiger 10.4.11, which of course involves cost.

  • Pogo games incompatible with Leopard?

My wife's G4 running 10.4.11 will not power up. She played Pogo games on that machine with no problems. She tried to play games on her Pogo account with my G5 running 10.5. She can get around on their site but when trying to play games it will not load games. The screen says "Games Loading" but they don't. After a while the screen goes away.
I have searched for answers and have tried some of the "fixes" to no avail (delete caches and such).
    G5 10.5.8
    Safari 4.0.3
    Java J2SeE 5.0

Do you have the latest version of Adobe's Flash Player?

  • Itunes version incompatible with my OSX 10.4.11, my new iphone no likey!

I have a Mac OS 10.4.11, just got a 10.2 iphone 3GS and it requires the same version or more recent of itunes, and BINGO you got it, it won't let me install itunes 10.5 on my mac because it is not compatible with my mac os 10.4, any suggestions anyone?

The requirements for the new iPhones are printed on the box (in teeny-tiny letters with low contrast).  To use your new phone with iTunes you will have to upgrade to OSX 10.5 at least.  All we know about your computer is "iMac" which covers over a decade of models, so it is hard to be specific on the system upgrade recommendations.

  • Can I use InDesign CS with Leopard?

Is anyone successfully using InDesign CS with Leopard?

    Hi Tim
I came across the very useful blog recently:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/indesignchannel/2007/11/indesignleopard_updateiii.html
by Tim Cole which may help to explain the problem you (like me!) are having. If you can't be bothered to read it all then the gist is that this is an Apple problem which they know about and are trying to fix (no date for release as yet). It relates specifically to IDCS3 and Leopard, in particular the linking of files that is unique to ID as opposed to the other Adobe programs (other CS3 programs are unaffected I think). For me the only workable solution has been to trash the ID preferences file which can be a nuisance (as you have reset prefs afterwards) but it has enabled me to continue using IDCS3. The problem appears to affect those using PowerPC more than Intel machines. For those having problems with CS and CS2 you should be aware that Adobe have no plans to make these versions compatible with Leopard; not now, not ever! Check the Adobe site for a list of compatible software (yes, IDCS3 is listed but as mentioned this is not an Adobe problem). Why Apple have not made an announcement about this is quite beyond me.
    Hope this is useful.
    Phil

  • Toast 6.0.9 works fine with Leopard 10.5.1 !!

I'd heard after 6.0.9 that Roxio was going to include some limitations on Toast... hmmm... didn't realize that incompatibility in version 7 with Leopard would be part of the limitations.
Don't take my word for it. If you have an old copy try it (version 6.0.9 is what I have tested).
Before you test it you should first temporarily remove/archive your version 7 Toast preference file. Then of course you'll have to re-enter your version 6 serial #... but version 6.0.9 runs AND VERIFIES great in Leopard 10.5.1 !
I checked the files I burned to both CDs and DVDs... no problems... and accurate byte-for-byte!
    Incredible!
This is on a G5 running Leopard 10.5.1

i'm using Logic Pro 8.01 on my G5 PPC with NO problems while using OS 10.4.11. So, I might suggest downgrading, and waiting until Leopard runs better for the G5 when using Logic 8.
However, I'm running Logic 8.01 on my Intel Macbook with Leopard and there are NO problems, whatsoever.
The error message you're getting would seem to indicate that a path can't be found. I would remove any Logic preferences you may have established from the past and repair permissions. Without knowing how you upgraded to Leopard and how you are installing Logic 8 it's hard to troublshoot.
