IDVD Warning

Hi
What does the below mentioned message in >console>DiscRecording.log mean?
It is iDVD version 4.0.1 and was beeing transferred via Migration Assistent
from 10.3.9 to 10.4.2.
I'm not using the app. at the moment and a short check didn't
show any problems.
iDVD: WARNING: The DiscRec SPI from the DiscRecording framework is deprecated in 10.3 and later.
iDVD: WARNING: This app is contributing to an overall degradation of system performance and should
iDVD: WARNING: be updated to use the DR API instead.

Did all the buttons remain w/in the TV Safe area after using this app? Did you uncheck the snap to grid prior to using the app (even tho it claims to do this on its own)? What OS are you running along with iDVD?
Is this the app you loaded?
http://www.apple.com/applescript/idvd/idvd_companion/
The iDVD Companion is an application, created in AppleScript Studio, which expands the abilities and controls for iDVD 2.1. This application will work with Mac OS X version 10.1 to 10.1.5.
From reading the above ..... This doesn't appear to work with Tiger at all. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • IDVD ejects disk before burn is complete

I am attempting to burn a large combined video and data DVD project (6.8 GB), and encountering a problem in which iDVD ejects the disk from the drive just BEFORE the burn reaches completion. The progress bar just sits there at 100% saying that its last task is done, but never actually indicates completion (even if I wait several hours). The only way out is to hit the Cancel button.
I have tried burning both in Best Quality and in Profession Quality Encoding -- both exhibit the same problem. Burning to a disk image completes successfully, but iDVD warns that disks burned from such an image will not work correctly in some players, so it is not useful to me.
As for the DVD produced, the video content is corrupted -- some parts play, but others just get stuck, or worse yet, hang the player. The DVD-ROM data contents seem to be there in the directory -- but the files are corrupted, apparently having never actually been written to the disk.
The drive in use is the one which shipped with this MacPro1,1 (PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D). The target disk is a Memorex DVD+R DL. iDVD version 7.0.3 (1110).
I hope someone out there can help, as my project is already overdue...
    Thanks in advance,
    Josh

I had the same problem burning a 2 hour, 33 minute video to an HP DVD+R DL using iDVD 6 on Professional Quality. All of the files are there and nothing is corrupted, but iDVD did eject the disc and showed a "Done" dialog box, but the program still showed that there was "less than one minute remaining" (much like the odd flaw in iMovie when importing a large AVI where the program freezes with "less than one minute remaining," but really requires an additional 20 minutes to finish importing). The disc was burned using the factory superdrive, HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N.
Now the DVD will only play about the first hour of video on any DVD player, including my Mac - it says it's "skipping over damaged area."
If there is any advice out there on how to fix this problem, or any explanation of why iDVD ejects the disc before it is done burning, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Idvd error: unsupported movie type

I have recently updated both the running software to leapord and also updated ilife, giving me upated imovie and idvd.
On my old system once I had finished editing a movie I would save it, open idvd, go to the file menu and select one step dvd from movie...
I would then select which movie I wanted to burn and the imac would do the rest!
Since updating my software I am unable to do this.
I go through the same motions until im selecting which movie to burn, now a new folder appears called imovie projects when you select this all the movies you have created in the imovie 08 are located in here.Once selecting your movie an error message appears titled Unsupported Movie Type.
It is basically telling me it can not read the imovie file.I find this confusing as both the updates have come from the same disk.
Im sure its just a matter of changing the file format but I have tried everything and am now banging my head against a brick wall!

Could it be this? *From Help:*
Burning a OneStep DVD from a movie on your hard disk
You can burn a OneStep DVD from a movie on your hard disk, skipping the creative process involved in creating menus, modifying themes, and so on. When you insert the burned disc into a DVD player or a computer, the disc plays automatically.
To burn a OneStep DVD from a movie on your hard disk:
With iDVD open, choose File > “OneStep DVD from Movie.”
Locate the movie you want to add in the dialog that opens, then click Import.
Insert a blank DVD disc into your computer’s SuperDrive or an external drive when you are prompted to do so.
A progress dialog indicates how far along you are in creating the DVD. You can click the Cancel button at any point before the burning stage to quit and leave the DVD disc untouched.
iDVD burns the disc in whatever format (NTSC or PAL) you have specified in iDVD preferences, regardless of which format the video is in. *_If the formats are different, iDVD warns you before burning, because some visual distortions might result in the burned DVD._*

  • IDVD 4.0.1 audio problems--console log

So, I too am having audio problems in iDVD. Not always, but recently. Audio is recorded for parts, but not all of source from iMovie. Looking at the DiscRecording.log in Console, I see:

Any ideas on what to do to fix it?

    Hi Matt
There are so many things that can go wrong.
How did You go from (iMovie?) to iDVD.
    - using the Share/export to iDVD from within iDVD
    - dropping the project QT movie into an open iDVD theme window ?
Version of OS, iMovie, iDVD and QT ?
What brand of DVD disks ?
Anything connected to Your Mac during burning process ?
Any other programs running under process ?

  • Re-rendering

I find this really odd - I have a project that requires dual-layer (which I have), but each time I open the project, it re-renders the whole thing from scratch (which takes hours). I would usually save out to a disk image, but iDVD warned me that burning from a disk image may not work on some players, so I opt to use iDVD to ensure safety.
What I don't understand is why, if nothing is changed, should the whole project have to be re-rendered? I know the rendered files are in the project - I can use Show Package Contents to snoop around...
Am I doing something incorrectly (a setting, perhaps), or is this just the way it is?
    Thanks

Although Apple warns about not using a disk image for double-layer discs, everybody here that has done so has reported success.

  • Need help bringing movie into One Step DVD

I am trying to do the One Step DVD with i-movie. I have done this before, but for some reason I keep getting the error message that there is no movie on the tape. I know there is. It rewinds the tape and then pauses when it tries to capture it. Can someone help me on this? Thanks! Kelly

Any time code breaks on this tape whatsoever? Did you try Restarting your mac and the camcorder as well?
If that fails, then let's try a different approach. Let's burn a one step dvd from a movie or QT folder. Let me know if this works for you or not.

  • Problem rendering chapters

After changing an object in an iDVD project, iDVD warns to view the chapter markers... I'm getting this behavior after fixing the soundtrack which had been truncated in GarageBand. (I have an iMovie project shared with GB and from GB the movie is shared with iDVD). Now the soundtrack is as long as the video, but the chapter menu jumps are out of sync with the original chapter markers. Strangely enough, the amount the last chapter is out of sync is just about the same length of time that was added to the audio track - a relationship? Is there anything I can tweak to fix this problem without having to start over from scratch? Or does anyone know of a utility that can restructure and reindex the VIDEO_TS files?

Did you follow the chapter marker "rules"?:
Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline. Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition. Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition. Adding one at the beginning, is a BIG no-no.

  • Warning Illegal Angle - Back to iDVD

Just upgraded from FCP3 to Studio 2 and tried to use DVD Studio Pro for the first time this morning and failed miserably. I created a 52 minute video yesterday in FCP then exported to Compressor. It was a simple video with NO audio (soccer scrimmage). Aside from the fact that both FCP and Compressor don't seem too stable (Activity Monitor showed some of their processes as not responding during the whole process), everything seemed to work OK. However, when trying to build a DVD with DVD Studio Pro, I kept getting the "Warning: Illegal Angle..." message when testing via simulation.
I finally gave up and went back to iDVD which worked fine. Are the studio tools so unstable as to be not usable for such simple tasks?
Granted - I know I have a whole new learning curve to climb, but my initial experience has been very frustrating. Any suggestions on solving the "illegal angle" problem? Is it an FCP, Compressor or DVD Studio app problem?

I've been using DVDSP for many years, since v1. I don't have any odd problems with the software; nothing that is not clearly a user error.
I've never seen "illegal angle" in the errors I've gotten but I'd strongly urge you to try DVDSP with a far more conventional project so you can learn how it works. Earlier versions came with some interesting and very helpful tutorials but I haven't bothered to even look for them for many ears. They may no longer be included.

  • IDVD 7.1 "Modified Asset Warning"

"Modified Asset Warning" update is messing up my chapter menus.  How do I avoid?

    Hi
My guess is that You encountered the iDVD BUG.
To set this of one makes an iDVD project - then find something to alter in the movie and go back to the video-editor eg iMovie or FinalCut and fix this.
Then when back in iDVD - it will ask You to Update or Cancel - neither works.
    • Old Medicine was - Start a brand new iDVD project
    • New Medicine (with thanx to Old Toad) - In iDVD discard the movie and trash the media assets(?) then re-import movie.
Now Chapters should now point to their right places.
    reg Chapters
    • SET NO at the very beginning or end of movie - as iDVD want's to do this by it self
    • NO Chapter marks in transitions or within 2 sec from them - this can be worked around by exporting part as QT.mov and re-import this then replaced - so that the transition now is integrated into the movie (can not be edited)

  • Warning to those with unfinished iDVD 5 projects.

If you have an unfinished iDVD project in V5 and it includes media from an iPhoto 5 library there are a couple of steps you'll need to take to keep your project from getting trashed.
iPhoto 6 changes the folder structure of it's library folder drastically. iDVD will not be able to link to files in the library and to do so manually would be impossible unless it was only one or two. So here's what you need to do.
1 - make a backup of your current iPhoto Library folder. Name it "iPhoto6 Library".
2 - when you launch iPhoto 6 the first time, use the Option key and when asked to locate your library select the "iPhoto6 Library" folder.
Now when you launch iDVD 6 and select the unfinished project it will look in the old library folder to find the files and you're off and running. Then when you've completed the project you can trash that iPhoto Library folder to regain space again.

    Hope this helps.

Even better advice: Don't upgrade until you finish your iDVD5 project. I don't know how many times I've seen people posting here who have lost an important project because they upgraded in the middle of working on it.

  • IDVD quits with no warning

When I try to create a new project in IDVD and click on the "Save" button it just quits with no message and the project is not created. I can only modify the latest project and cannot create a new one.

What's going on and how do I fix it? Should I reinstall from iLife 09?

  • Idvd not responding - Connection Failed Warning

iDVD 08 is not responding. The menus appear at the top, but that's about it. I get a spinning ball whenever I mouse over menus. Shortly after starting, I get the message: Connection Failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.
I've tried opening iDVD from application folder as well as from within iMovie.
It's been a couple of weeks since I used it. Worked fine last time. There was an update that I noticed in the last couple of weeks. Perhaps that's it, but I don't see any other posts.
Any suggestions, please let me know.
    Thanks.

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner.
I own both a powerbook G4 and Mac Pro, and network the two sometimes in order to switch files back and forth as necessary to take things on the road.
Although the iDVD project was exclusively on the MacPro, (Indeed, I even tried starting a new project on the MacPro, but iDVD still wouldn't respond), I believe the Powerbook must have been connected at some point in the process (just hanging out there), and for some reason iDVD got confused. As soon as I reconnected the Powerbook, iDVD was fine.
And then I disconnected the two computers and iDVD continued (and continues) to work fine.
I'm not a programmer. Not sure what happened, but it seemed to fix itself.
PS: For those programmers out there, when I say iDVD was unresponsive, I mean it. I had to force quit every time. It wasn't just that iDVD couldn't find any necessary files.

  • IDVD is not working in Mavericks... what now?

I am very upset that iDVD is not working in Mavericks! I need the ability to burn DVDs for family who is unable to access the internet. Any patches or fixes available to make this software usable again? I am very disappointed that Apple would do this without warning users that previously purchased software would be incompatible with the new OS.

I am also having problems with iDVD under Mavericks. I have used iDVD for many years creating DVD's for family members and archiving our vacations. It worked great under Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion, but now Mavericks is a different situation.
I have two basic problems, (1) after importing the video I want to use, I play it back to preview and a small band shows up at the top of the screen that is not in sync with the rest of the screen. And (2) when showing a slideshow using standard jpegs there are color issues on playback. Help,  I need my iDVD back!
